The carsdirect price for that configuration is $28,290. I cannot speak for whether this price can be beaten, as I have not yet attempted any negotiation myself. I just sold my subaru privately today though, so it will be very soon as I'm down 1 car. If you are not seriously rushed, you might wait until June to see if Toyota offers an incentive on this vehicle (I will probably wait til June). Barring a factory incentive (rebate/financing) the price above is a good benchmark. If you achieve within $300 of the above price, smile. Note that this figure includes ALL costs except, title, sales tax and license plate fees.
I would not share with any dealer who they are competing against though they are likely to be able to guess (the dealers in your area). I would also not share with the dealers which dealer gives you the lowest bid, only the amount of the bid. Theoretically, every dealer buys the vehicles for the same price, so one's price being superior to another is dependent on dealer overhead, inventory and general "hunger." Dealers are less likely to play this game if they feel the integrity of their bid will not be protected (and rightfully so).
5K is way too low. I'd need more information to give you a more specific answer as to how much you can reasonably expect for the vehicle (LX or EX, general condition, optional equipment), but 5k is ridiculous assuming even the most conservative estimates. Bear in mind that the dealer will give you the wholesale value, not the retail. Also, do not buy based on payment; negotiate price - the lower the price, the lower your payments. For $650 a month I'd be expecting a BMW. Also do not finance for 72 months. If 6 years are necessary to make the payments be low enough, the car is too expensive, I'm afraid. if this dealer cannot dramatically improve the deal, its time to find another dealer.
Thank you, that is really helpful. I feel like I have spent so much time researching vehicles at this point, that I have been getting better numbers on my own as opposed to the car buying services, who have been quoting me higher than I had hoped. I think that is a good idea about waiting until June when Toyota hopefully does more incentives. I see that there are good rebates on the JEEP Liberty right now, but I would rather have the RAV4. I will look into CARSDIRECT.com...I made a few inquiries them so far, only to see that they have no dealers in my area they could connect to for a quote (I am in Syracuse NY) but I have been in contact with a local dealer here about the RAV and that is how I got the 30k price quote, but I haven't offered a reply yet. What should I do, counter with an offer of 27k, knowing that it won't be accepted? Or just say what price I'll pay and say take it or leave it? Is it better to dance awhile with numbers?
Patience is key. The more pressure you are under to buy, the less chance you have of success. I would completely ignore the offer you've been given. It has no validity. The seller needs to justify to you a bump up from their cost; its not up to you to "talk them down." They need to talk you up from the price I suggested. If they don't want to budge, suggesting to them you will find another dealer usually motivates them. Also, DO NOT BUY THE JEEP. If you look at total ownership costs (depreciation, fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs etc), American cars are unfortunately, far more expensive than imports. Edmunds has a five year ownership cost calculator. Take a look. As far as take it or leave it, this is hard to say, without having dealt with the specific individual you've been talking to. Psychological tactics depend on the individuals involved. I've used the take it or leave it approach, but do not do so unless you are truly ready to buy on the spot if they take your offer. They need to believe that you will f they say yes.
Hi Elizabeth : I did some checking and almost all the Rav4 LTD V6 that come with Leather seat are Equip about the same as Follows. CF = Carpet Mats EJ = 6 disc CD player FE = Federal Emissions HD = Heated seats LA = Leather seats RL = day time running lights SR = Sun Roof TO = Tow Prep Pack WL = Wheel locks All of the ones equip this way , Your Price is $27, 895 MSRP is $30,659 Thanks Again
I emailed 8 local dealers letting them know what I wanted. I have received only one reply so far. He has a Rav4 Limited with 4 cyl, 2WD, third row, carpets, daytime lights, vehicle shield. MSRP is $25,334 and he offered to sell for $24555 plus $67.50 doc fee. Invoice is around $23,000.
How should I counter, do I just say I want to pay invoice?
Assuming there are no factory incentives in your area I would offer invoice plus $200. Be certain that the dealer understands this includes their "profit" i mean document fee. The actual lowest they will go varies from region to region, but you cannot buy for invoice unless a)nobody is buying, its the end of the month and you help them reach a quota/goal, or there is an incentive, making their tru cost below invoice. Barring incentives or regional considerations, I'd pay no more than $500 over invoice. In my area, I can buy at $300 over invoice just by going carsdirect with no effort. :surprise:
In March 07, I bought pretty much the same vehicle, MSRP was 28,600 something, and paid 27,400 + $299 doc fee plus TTL. So, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
We just picked up our 2007 RAV4 limited 4cyl, 2WD, with third row, carpets, vehicle shield, and daytime running lights in OKC. Color is Barcelona Red. Out the door price was $23,110. MSRP is $25334.
Unfortunately, we have horrible weather today so I am not taking it out of the garage!
This is exactly the same vehicle i'm seeking except in Flint Mica. From my numbers, dealer invoice (including destination) is $25,661. If you are correct, please identify the dealer you've been to so I can try them out . If your numbers are right, I'd say their offer is very aggressive and not likely to go much lower. Sounds like there is a behind the scenes manufacturer to dealer incentive that is unpublished. I may wait until we cross into June before pulling the trigger. As far as an offer I would ask, A) do you have other offers from other dealers? B0 I'd challenge their offer by asking $600 less than their offer and see what happens. Se Ct dealers are quoting my about 26K even for this vehicle, although the color may be rare here.
I too received an enticing price from Boch that no other dealers would match. Come to find out Boch didn't include their $298 fee to price quote-- whereas the other dealers gave price quotes that were complete, except for the tax, title and plates. Double check these extra costs with Boch first, then attempt price matches. Westboro was the cheapest for me, then Acton tied with Boch (with fee included).
I'm looking to buy a 4WD Sport V6. MSRP for the car shows $28889 whereas invoice is $26488. Seeing as how my father in law has worked at the local dealership for 15 years, they're willing to be pretty flexible.
Anyway, I originally wanted the vehicle in Pacific Blue. Carmax had the car for $26,188. The local dealer was offering invoice on Classic Silver. I don't really like the silver though. So today, he agrees to DX the vehicle from another dealership in the color I want at invoice OR take the Silver for $500 below invoice.
I'm not really liking the Silver. However, Flint Mica is on its way and will be in NY on the 29th. Dealer says it'll take about 5-10 days to get here from there. I'd much rather have Flint Mica than Silver.
Ideally, they'll give us the Flint Mica for $500 below as well. That, combined with the $400 for new grads makes it $900 below invoice, or $25,588. They were closed by the time I made this decision so tomorrow I'll call back to see if we can secure the Flint Mica at the same price as Silver. If so, I think we're getting a great deal. Otherwise, I'll have another difficult decision to make.
Just purchased a RAV4 Sport V6 4x4 in Flint Mica for $25,332. This includes the stupid conveyance fee. This vehicle as equipped (6 disc cd, moonroof, tow prep package, daytime running lights, mudguards, carpets) had a sticker of $28,073, invoice of $25,837. There are no incentives in my area (Connecticut) on the vehicle so I'm pleased with my deal.
Update: I was able to go another round with all the dealers and got them down to $24982 (including $195 doc fee) for the V6 Rav4 Sport.
All of my negotiations have been through e-mail and over the phone. I can't believe how much easier it is to do it that way. It removes all the pressure so you can get right down to business.
Going to pickup the new car this week!! Thanks everyone!! :shades:
Hello, I am new to the forum and I appreciate for some helps on negotiating. I am trying to get a Limited V6, with: LA Leather Seat Package SR Moonroof EJ JBL AM/FM 6 CD Changer HD Heated Seats CF Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set TO Tow Prep Package RL Daytime Running Lights FE 50 State Emissions
I have emailed about 8 dealers in New Jersey and the lowest quote I received was $27900.00 + Sales tax + DMV + DOC ($199). How should I counter offer? Thanks a lot -Ricky
Question in general regarding the SET administration fee as well as any other "hidden" dealer fees. Why would Edmonds list TMV as what consumers at a given zip code are paying, and then make you add additional fees. So is the TMV price the true price that consumers are paying, or do you add the various "hidden" fees on top of the TMV. So far, in Orlando Florida, dealers are trying to tack on $700 in "processing" fees and $700 in "Toyota guard" option (which is really nothing more than rust proving and undercoating - which is basically a rip off to try to generate additional revenue). So should I simiply reject these additional fees as bogus, or are others in the South east paying these "extra" fees on top of the TMV price. Edmonds states that the TMV includes all such fees and only excludes tax and title, registration fee, and manufactuer to consumer rebates (which obviously doesn't apply to this discussion). It would seem that if TMV is actually what consumers are paying in a given zip code, then consumers should stick to that and not cave in to these bogus charges. It would appear that dealers are attempting to confuse consumers and fight against the very thing that Edmonds (and others) are attempting to do (i.e., offer fair and accurate purchasing information to consumers).
Good job!If you have not already signed everything, just be wary that while the dealer will honor their quote (hopefully you have it in writing with the specs of the vehicle so there can be no bait and switch), they will likely try to recoup their profit by selling you extras in the business office - extended warranty, alarm, disability insurance you name it. Be sure to say no to any and all these things. Additionally, make sure you physically see the vehicle prior to signing. Make sure it has all equipement you specified. assuming it does, write down the vin number. when you go into business office, make sure all documentation has the identical vin number. I'm also picking up my vehicle this weekend
V6 Limited 2WD Savannah Metallic Moonroof Tow Prep Daytime Running Lights Tonneau Cover, Cargo Net JBL Stereo $25600, includes Destination charge Tax, 8.1% $2073 Document Fee, $369 Vehicle Registration Tax, $454, AZ is really high it is based on the MSRP of the vehicle and declines by about 10% per year OTD, $28496
I have recently concluded the purchase of a new vehicle.Among others, under consideration were the RAV4, CRV,Santa Fe etc. I looked at,and seriously considered the RAV4.Didn't like the tailgate arrangement but apart from that I thought it was a pretty good vehicle.I then attempted to negotiate with a few dealers. No go! Absolutely no negotiation off MSRP was possible with them. Now I am all for making the car buying experience easier and more pleasant for the customer but not at the expense of "pay my price or walk" attitude of the dealer. I should note at this point that Toyota used to have a program called "access Toyota" which is where you still paid what Toyota asked for but the price was a discount off the MSRP.( I believe only some dealers participated in this scheme). However that was squashed when it was deemed to be "price fixing" and so now the dealers are simply demanding full MSRP from all customers. The problem with this is that it only seems to apply in certain parts of Canada. If one is in Ontario you can freely obtain $2000.00 off the MSRP. This leaves me with a very sour taste in my mouth and I refused to play their game. I am a long time Toyota purchaser, my last 4 vehicles have been Toyotas and I have generally been pleased with them, however their "better way to buy a vehicle" slogan which is how they advertise in Western Canada is nothing more than a ploy for their dealers to rake in more $$$$ at the customers expense. I have a message for Toyota, don't ever think that with your no discounting policy that you are not losing customers. Based on your present policy I decided to change my make of vehicle this time around and have just concluded the purchase of a Mitsubishi Outlander XLS which after some negotiation I obtained at a price that I considered fair.It seems to be a great vehicle and when I am ready to change again I just may stay with them.
I've paid OTD price of $26,300.00 :confuse: for 2007 RAV4 Limited 4Cyl 4WD (Nautical Blue Metallic) with below options:
LA Leather Seat Package SR Moonroof EJ JBL AM/FM 6 CD Changer HD Heated Seats CF Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set RL Daytime Running Lights FE 50 State Emissions
and Remote Start...
Can someone please suggest whether I got a better deal or not? This is for Delaware state where there is only 2.75% sales tax.
I just purchased a 07 Rav4 Limited V6 Silver with Grey Leather interior and the whole moonroof/JBL changer/heated seats/floor mats/daytime running lights/state emissions.
I got it for the invoice price (at least that's what it looked like) of 27932 + Tax/TTL/License. We are gonna lease it and just for your advice title it through an area that has cheaper taxes. My parents live in the Lake County, IL where sales tax is 7% and I live in Chicago (8.75%). Therefore by titling it at my parents, saved me a decent amount. No one else was willing to match 27932 (one dealership probably would have gone down a couple of hundred, but they wanted me to some unofficial quote stating "I will buy the Rav 4 at 27,700." The dealer was gonna bring this piece of paper to his manager (whatever that means) but wanted me to sign the paper. It was a great feeling to say I'm not signing anything and I got up and left. I went to a different dealership and they did the deal at 27932 (which no other chicagoland dealership would match). I do think the holdback was about 500, but oh well. Anyone think I got overly taken on the deal?
Hi, Also in the market for a RAV 4 in Delaware, can I ask which dealer you purchased from , and what the MSRP was? Also, did you use internet sales, or visit the dealer? Thanks
OTD pricing is completely useless for comparison purposes in this forum.
This forum is used by people all across the country. Costs such at state taxes, local taxes, title fees, doc fees, ect. vary wildly depending on where you live.
The ONLY good way to share prices with people in this forum is to report: 1) the actual price paid for the car with destination (please be clear on what options are included), 2) any additional fees charged by the dealer (doc fees, prep fees, ect.) and 3) specifics of the trade-in, if applicable (this can greatly affect the price of the new car)
An OTD price for someone in California or Nevada is competely useless to someone who live in Ohio or New York.
I went to Price Toyota first then to Newark Toyota World. I don't remember MSRP accurately but it was just above 29k (with remote start of value $575). I directly visited the dealer and the sales guy is aware that I've already got some quotes from other dealerships.
Not sure if they had any Month End specials though...
Good luck with your purchase. Let me know if you need any further info.
Not sure wt the taxes r in ur area but I got Ltd RAV4 with almost same options with Leather and Heated seats + Remote start for an OTD of 26,300 in DE. That was 25,379 before tax, tag and doc fee. That was on 30th May so not sure of they had any Month End deals running though...
So did you end up buying at Newark Toyota World? What was the final price difference between the two...and do you know if they gave you invoice price? Thanks for your reply!
Yeah, I ended up buying there. I guess I got a bit below invoice as Edmunds Invoice with all the options excluding remote start is $25,585 (Remote Start Invoice is 380 totaling $25,965) and I got it for . Where as I got it for $25,379 before tax n tag which is about 600 below invoice.
Again, I'm not sure if going around Month End was the factor in me getting it below invoice though.
Thank you for your replies....If you don't mind, if you could send me an email as I have one or two other questions to ask about your experience with them...If not thanks anyway!
I am currently thinking about buying a base 2007 RAV4 4 cylinder 2WD with these options:
Cargo Area Tonneau Cover $140 Black Roof Rails And Crossbars $220 Daytime Running Lights $40 Window Tint $175 Carpet Mat Set (5 Pc) $230 Vehicle Shield Package $349 (golf states Toyota deal, includes various sealants and rental ca assistance) Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel Upgrade $575
Total MSRP including Destination: $23,379
I was thinking about offering them $21,379...roughly $2,000 off MSRP.
I haven't priced the 4cyl or all of the options that you want, but your price seems a little low.
I live in Clearwater, Florida. I want to buy a V6 2WD base model with $450.00 in options (roof rack, tow prep pkg. and AM/FM 6 CD). I used the CarBuyingTips worksheet to prepare an offer. I sent the offer to several local dealerships of $22,500 (includes destination, but not tax, tag and title)...so far no takers. I had one dealership quote me $23,450 with some minor additional options and a lifetime warranty. I didn't care about the lifetime warranty or the extra options so I declined.
You might want to look at Carbuying tips website to work up an offer on your vehicle. Also look at the CarsDirect price as a guideline. You might consider the CarBargains buying service too. They are a non-profit and charge $190.00 to get competitive bids from at least 5 dealers. I read this about their service in one of the forums...might have been this one: "For the base RAV4 V6 model, bids varied from $200 less than invoice to $1,000 more than invoice." I think CarBargains uses Kelly Blue Book invoice, which is higher than some of the others, but $200 below KBB invoice puts this right about to the $22,500 (including their fee) I have been offering the dealers.
I will probably give the dealers one more try myself and, if there still aren't any takers at $22,500, I will just turn it over to CarBargains.
Hope this helps some. Good luck with your negotiating!
Thanks for your reply zzzfla. I just had the dealership replied me back with the price of $22,000 plus TT&L for the base RAV4 mentioned earlier. I still think I could do better. I've also checked with another dealership in town, and they are willing to go a little lower at $21,850...though not by much. I guess I will hold firm at $21,500 and see who will take my offer...
Has anyone recently purchased a RAV4 V6 Limited with the Third Row (TH) in the Western Region? or from a GO Dealership (formerly Autonation)?
The 3rd row RAV4's are in short supply and while I know numbers and profit-wise what's a fair price ... it's difficult to judge what negotiation leverage I have and whether I should start with higher offer.
I nearly purchased this vehicle in 2wd. The dealer price was 26000 plus doc fee of 369, vehicle registration, and sales tax. It included a moonroof, jbl stereo, daytime running lights.
I'm looking at the 4wd which is about 1,000 more on invoice price ... and with the doc fee ... puts it in the mid-to-low 27's which is what I was planning to go for to begin with ...
I've got two dealers ready to play ... so I'll probably throw out $27k (no TTL) see if one bites and go up $100 increments from there ...
I got an invoice printout today at a dealership and the base price is about $750 less than the base invoice price used on Edmunds and CR. Where do they get their numbers? CR states that it's the maximum amt the dealer will pay for the car, but $750 is a pretty big difference when I'm attempting to determine a fair price. I'm in CA and I thought everything was more expensive here anyway so this one surprised me. Comments appreciated.
Not sure how you can get an accurate invoice. I noticed a wide variation as well, depending on the source - KBB, Edmunds, the dealer, etc. I live in Tampa Bay, Florida nd recently purchased my vehicle after shopping price for awhile. I negotiated with several dealers over the course of a couple of weeks. Most negotiations were on the internet or phone. I also checked CarsDirect, AutoAdvisor and CarBargains. As I understand it, there is a Southeast Toyota admin charge to dealers in the South of $629.00 which makes it more expensive to purchase in AL, FL, GA, NC & SC.
I ended up paying $23,200 at a local dealer for the base V6, 2WD with lifetime powertrain warranty and these options:
I'm looking to purchase a '07 RAV4 2WD. I'm not sure what would be a good price for the Sport or the Limited. The price of the Sport w/Moonroof, Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set, Tonneau Cover, SET Destination Charge (live in GA), and SET Admin Fee. Invoice Total + 6% sales tax = $24,486
Limited Invoice Total + 6% sales tax - $25,053
Is it possible to get this kind of a deal?? How do I start dealing with the Internet Sales Manager? I read on Edmunds that is the best way to go to get a good deal. Thank you all in advance as this is my very first experience.
Go to CarsDirect, click on the vehicle and options you want. This will give you a good idea of the price. Just remember that CarsDirect adds on a dealer fee to that amount...I think it was about $500...so you would want to talk to a customer service rep. to find out the actual price. Then you can use this number to negotiate with a local dealer to see if they will beat the CarsDirect price. Just ask to speak to their internet manager. I was able to purchase from my local dealer for $350 less than CarsDirect...but it took a bit of negotiation. If I couldn't, I would have bought from CarsDirect. You can search the internet to read up on their service. I read that they are the equivalent of an Amazon for car sales. eOpinions has a lot of customer reviews. You might also check out CarBargains. They are a non-profit and are supposed to be the best car buying service. You won't know the price, though, until you pay $190 and wait for them to provide you with the competitive bids they receive from 5 dealers.
When should we expect 08 RAV4 at the dealerships? Do people think that there will be a bump in the prices? I am toying with the idea of buying a RAV4 and wondering whether to hold off for the 08 model. On the same token, would there be any incentives on the 07 RAV4? Any inputs? Thanks!
The prices quoted here that include tax etc. are confounding. If you bought at invoice or invoice plus/minus some dollar amount, please specify the actual price paid to the dealer and skip the tax or TTL add-on as it has nothing to do with what you paid the dealerand can't be readily helpful to us por souls still shopping without pulling out the calculator to refigure your version of "Invoice mPrice"
OK, that said is anybody buying Rav Sports or Limited at invoice and below invoice? Been Getting consistent offers of $500 over invoice from several dealers as the lead in offer, thus I'm thinking I can do better and that there is a big holdback or other hidden profit they are drawing upon. Duh, I know. Also the 3 websites I checked gave consistent invoice prices so it is a suprise folks are reporting meaningful inconsistencies. Are folks really getting inconsistent invoice prices off the internet for identical cars?
Meant to say I'm shopping in Colorado/Utah with dealers between Denver and Salt Lake, if that has bearing on ability to get near or below invoice pricing.
Thanks. And I found the spell checker this time. yikes.
i live in northern Maine and would like to buy 2007 RAV4 SPORT AWD.Problem is the price quotes i am getting in maine are at least 2000 dollars higher than those from Boston. Would you advise me to buy from Boston which is 8 hours away- and worry about after sales service ? Has anyone bought this vehicle in Boston recently and can recommend the dealership. Please let me know the price paid and your experience.Any help is greatly appreciated. ARVRAN@AOL.COM Also once i buy a vehicle in Boston could i drive it to maine and register it there ?

Based on your present policy I decided to change my make of vehicle this time around and have just concluded the purchase of a Mitsubishi Outlander XLS which after some negotiation I obtained at a price that I considered fair.It seems to be a great vehicle and when I am ready to change again I just may stay with them.
Rant over.
Jowett.
I've paid OTD price of $26,300.00 :confuse: for 2007 RAV4 Limited 4Cyl 4WD (Nautical Blue Metallic) with below options:
LA Leather Seat Package
SR Moonroof
EJ JBL AM/FM 6 CD Changer
HD Heated Seats
CF Carpet Floor/Cargo Mat Set
RL Daytime Running Lights
FE 50 State Emissions
and Remote Start...
Can someone please suggest whether I got a better deal or not? This is for Delaware state where there is only 2.75% sales tax.
Thank you.
:shades:
Thanks
Also in the market for a RAV 4 in Delaware, can I ask which dealer you purchased from , and what the MSRP was? Also, did you use internet sales, or visit the dealer? Thanks
Bill

OTD price: $25,500

What you all think?
This forum is used by people all across the country. Costs such at state taxes, local taxes, title fees, doc fees, ect. vary wildly depending on where you live.
The ONLY good way to share prices with people in this forum is to report:
1) the actual price paid for the car with destination (please be clear on what options are included),
2) any additional fees charged by the dealer (doc fees, prep fees, ect.) and
3) specifics of the trade-in, if applicable (this can greatly affect the price of the new car)
Cheers,
Vishnu
Hope this helps.
So did you end up buying at Newark Toyota World? What was the final price difference between the two...and do you know if they gave you invoice price? Thanks for your reply!
Bill
Again, I'm not sure if going around Month End was the factor in me getting it below invoice though.

I am currently thinking about buying a base 2007 RAV4 4 cylinder 2WD with these options:
Cargo Area Tonneau Cover $140
Black Roof Rails And Crossbars $220
Daytime Running Lights $40
Window Tint $175
Carpet Mat Set (5 Pc) $230
Vehicle Shield Package $349 (golf states Toyota deal, includes various sealants and rental ca assistance)
Extra Mile Aluminum Wheel Upgrade $575
Total MSRP including Destination: $23,379
I was thinking about offering them $21,379...roughly $2,000 off MSRP.
Any input would be appreciated.
The 3rd row RAV4's are in short supply and while I know numbers and profit-wise what's a fair price ... it's difficult to judge what negotiation leverage I have and whether I should start with higher offer.
Thx again
I ended up paying $23,200 at a local dealer for the base V6, 2WD with lifetime powertrain warranty and these options:
Roof Rack
Tonneau cover
AM/FM 6 CD
Running lights
Bumper cover
Floor Mats
$24,800 with tax, tag & title
These were the prices I was given from the buying services:
CarsDirect - $25,150 OTD
AutoAdvisor - $23,750 (plus tax, tag, title)
CarBargains does not negotiate price on the base model
Limited Invoice Total + 6% sales tax - $25,053
Is it possible to get this kind of a deal??
How do I start dealing with the Internet Sales Manager? I read on Edmunds that is the best way to go to get a good deal. Thank you all in advance as this is my very first experience.
Thank you!
Any inputs? Thanks!
Thanks.
Thoughts and experiences appreciated.
Thanks. And I found the spell checker this time. yikes.
