Linzee: There must over 15 Toyota dealers in the DFW Metroplex---must be one that has what you want!! Remeber--chk the dealers inventory and look for "in stock" and "available!" I assume when you say $500 under invoice you're talking about "dealer invoice" which includes the "holdback?" The Consumer Reports Buying Kit purchased on line is "ready to use" once you purchase. You can "save" the cars you've reviewed which makes it nice when comparing. You'll be AMAZED at the Ford truck mark-ups--they are CASH COWS for Ford! Again, my BEST advice--get the car buying kit--locate the car and go to the dealer in person! Good luck and let us know how ya do!! BTW; Have you looked at the Nissan Rogue--mmmmmmmmmmmm--sweet ride and you can have All Wheel Drive! Bob

    Any one?

    Hello Everyone,

me and one of my friend were looking for base rav4 4x2 v4 with third row seat. We picked up two RAV4s last week at this price.

    2008 Base V4 4x2 Silver

Options: Third row seat, running day lights, engine immobilizer

(we were not ready to pay extra for options that we do not need.)

I did NOT check with CR or any other website except edmunds TMV.

The price offered to us is $1000 below TMV: $21,700

    :P

This is $500 below invoice as per edmunds website. However the dealer charged us few extras that we were not sure: :(

    1. advertising fee = 487
    2. finance fee = 310
    3. dealer hold-back = 460

ARE those extra CHARGES that everyone pays? I am wondering.

We both paid around $200 extra for DMV. The final out of door price including DMV fees: $21,940

    How is this deal?
:confuse: Looking at what others paid, I do not think I got a very good deal though. I should have read this forum before buying the vehicle

    appreciate your inputs.

You know whats odd? You get different selection of available vehicles if you build your own on Toyota's website vs going to the individual dealership. According to dealer websites, there are only 3 'available' just black v6 2wd but through toyota, I get closer to 8 or so. I have been able to track down a couple of them. And oddly enough the dealer we test drove at 2 wks ago who completely ignored my email with an offer, called today informing me he would keep an eye out for something similar and that he had more negotiating leverage if it was on his lot. So I guess the calender days are ticking down ! : ) I did briefly look at the rogue but like the body frame of the Rav4 better - this is the only other vehicle outside of a truck that has received my fiance's approval (minus the ford mustang) and that took a couple of months of work! Plan on doing the consumer reports car buying guide tomorrow when I can get crazy printing things off. Do you have suggestions how to handle advertising fees? Have seen some posts referring to them and don't know if thats like the holdback and dealers wont really haggle over those or if you can count them out. Thanks again for all your help!

oregonmike1: I'm using Consumer Reports "latest" info. According to your post, you got the Base RAV4 w/Daytime Running Lights (DTL), Engine Immobilizer and 3rd Row Seats. Not sure of your area requirements, but--in order to get 3rd Row Seat, you "must" add 17 inch Alloy or Syled Steel Wheels. Lets assume you got the 17 inch Syled Steel Wheels since you're getting a "basic" RAV4. Here's the cost breakdown. This is what the dealer paid--not including the $422 Dealer Holdback. So, $19,781 + $32 DTL, $48 Engine Immobilizer, $760 3rd Row Seats and $96 17 inch Syled Steel Wheels. This means he paid $20717 for the car. He also gets $422 for dealer holdback. So, if he sold you the car for $20,717--he'd still makes $422---plus, if he meets other monthly/yearly incentives he stands to make additional $$$. The MSRP of your vehicle is $22,955 and it includes the dealer holdback. In your deal, he sold you the car for $21,700--he paid $20,295 which doesn't include the holdback. So, you paid $21,700 and he paid $20,295 for a profit of $1,405 plus the $422 holdback and any $$ he makes on the financing. I would look for a "better" deal. Get the CR Car Buying Kit--best $39 you can spend for 3 month's of UNLIMITED car pricing. Bob

Linzee: I know the Gulf States Region (GSR) you're in has some "strange" add ons and policies. If you check other dealers say in San antonio or Austin, you'll see the add ons. Then go to say Oklahoma City or little rock and see if those dealers have the same things on their cars. I know for sure, Kansas City and St Louis have different pricing Not sure if Arkansas/Oklahoma are in that region. Might be worthwhile to check--not far too Little Rock or OK City and Southwest flies to KC and St Louis!! I know for sure the GSR cars have some "BS" paint sealant/fab protection package that's on most cars--TOTALLY WORTHLESS!! Look out of your region!! I don't worry about advertising fees---I just go for my "bottom line" price. All the other BS--ad fees, paint protection etc is just another ploy to get you mind thinking about what ya doan't need to think about!! You can get a detail for about $125--I do it in the spring and fall--keeps the paint waxed and the interior clean! What I like about the Rogue is All Wheel Drive---RAV4's 4 WD is very limited. Good luck!! Bob

    Bob (bobwiley)

Appreciate your inputs. Unfortunately I already put the money down (so has my friend). I will never buy my next car without CR Car buying kit.

However one thing I would like to add. We went to many dealers in and around portland metro for buying two cars. (thinking buying 2 cars together would give upper hand in negotiations) No one showed any signs even coming near to this price. Besides RAVs are in high demand and there are not many in stock. Some dealers said they have limited allocation from toyota and they do not want to sell it at lower profit.

My order is gone to toyota and will take 45 - 90 days to arrive.

    thank you all,
    Mike

Mike: Dealers know when they have the "upper hand!!" Next time, besides the CR Buying Kit--think about going to another state--especailly the ones where SUV's are not so hot.

Has anyone received the e-mail "Your special holiday offer from Toyota!"? It says you can get an additional $500 off on your best deal on a new toyota if you take delivery by 12/31/07. I am in Dallas and it is a promotion from the Gulf States Region (GSR). Curious if anyone has used it.

Also can anyone recommend a Toyota Dealership in the Dallas Fort Worth Area? Looking for a great deal on a new RAV4. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

I just took possession of my new RAV4. I noticed a few nice touches I didn't spot during the test drive, such as three different electrical outlets (one right next to the back gate), a place to stow the cargo cover, lights everywhere, and much more. The standard stereo system is more than adequate for my purposes, and a surprisingly peppy overdrive for a 4-cylinder. Even without 6 cylinders, it's a lot zippier than my old Toyota Corolla. :)

    Hi all,

Wanted to know if the price i'm getting from the dealer is good price in the current market. I have been negotiating with 4-5 dealers in my area (Northeast, OH) and the lowest i could get them to is 22,208.39 for a Rav 4 Base 4x2 with the following options........

    Roof Rack
    Carpet mats
    17' Steel wheels
    DayTime running lights
    50 State emission

Edmunds is quoting 22493/- as Invoice for the same. Do you guys think its a good deal? or should i do a little more negotiating?

    Thanks
  • karlytrkarlytr Member Posts: 6
    '07 leftover or '08?
Did you mention a trade? (hopefully not)
Did you negotiate in person or via phone or fax? I found that negotiating in person seems to carry more weight.
Dealer holdback alone is 2% of the base MSRP. They will be reimbursed this amount when they sell it. Are there any factory to dealer incentives, marketing assists, etc?
Are there any factory to consumer rebates? Special financing rates?
Try to figure out (through research) not only what the dealer invoice says, but what they will actually be paying for that vehicle after they sell it (how much will they be getting back from the factory)? You want to determine their actual final cost. Also, this is a slow time of the year for most dealerships, and they are sometimes willing to 'lose money' on a deal just to move some vehicles out.
After your research, decide on a bottom-line price YOU want to pay, and stick with it.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.... Its a 2008 Rav 4..with no trade-in and i actually went to the dealership for a test drive and after couple of days he gave me a call and we have been doing the negotiations over the phone...

So after much negotiations he gave me a quote of 20208.39/- (I miss typed in my previous post... sorry) and Edmunds invoice price with the options is 20493/- so that is 250/- below the invoice? I think its a good price but wanted to see what others are paying..... should i call it a deal?

    Thanks

I'm shopping for an basic automatic transmission RAV4 in Pittsburgh area.

The dealer quoted me $22,444 without any negotiation. I don't know the invoice price. Is it a good deal or there's still lots of room in Pittsburgh and nearby?

Thank you for taking time to look at this.

Man, talk about disappointing. I'm in the market for an '08 Rav4 (Sport with moon roof/mp3/6cd/etc.) here in Connecticut (because I desperately need a 4x4 for the snow and my Prius just doesn't cut it for bad road conditions) and we've been actively looking the last three weeks or so. We started out at the dealer where we bought my Prius but they were offering us about $3-4,000 under KBB trade in (the car I'm trading in is a 2003 Mazda Protege5 wagon with only 22,000 miles, the deluxe package for everything: leather seats, power moonroof, upgraded speakers, 6-cd, etc.) and they were trying to give me only $7k for it. I got them up to $8500 after two or three visits, but still this car regularly sells for $12k or more so naturally I was a bit insulted on the trade offer (especially after buying a car from them in May...geez). They tried pushing leasing on me, and attempted to get me to pay just under MSRP..yeah right.

Needless to say we went to another dealer, and yesterday we thought we found a good deal. The dealer was overly friendly (most try to be anyhow) and went through the whole bit of telling us every minute feature, having us test drive, asking "what we could afford monthly" yadda yadda yadda and went through the coffee/tea routine, etc. They offered us $9250 for our trade in (a lot closer to the actual trade in value) and we negotiated $500 over the invoice they showed us (which of course included all of the advertising fees, holdback, etc.). The thing was, at the last minute they tried the tired old "we're losing money selling you this car at this price" and attempted to add another $300 or so on top of what we already "agreed on". The place was closing so we had to leave. We put a $500 payment to hold the car till the next day and were told to come back to finalize the sale.

Today was a whole 'nother ball game. I went back to the dealership with my wife and this time came prepared with a bunch of worksheets that I calculated using Consumer Reports and Edmund's TMV and such. I played tough today (whereas the day before it was my wife doing the tough talk) and told them I wasn't going to pay for all the holdback and such and wanted to get my full trade in that they agreed on. After about an hour of discussing it with the sales manager (the dealer that said he'd be there today to meet us with the car all cleaned and gassed up never even showed and the car was nowhere to be found...sheesh). They offered me $300 under the invoice (amazingly) which sounded too good to be true, but here was the catch...they wouldn't accept my trade in. They claimed that they would lose way too much in the trade and since I claimed it was worth more they challenged me to sell it by myself. I actually did consider taking their offer as 300 under invoice is actually not bad at all, but they had this really snarky and insulting way of talking to me at this point. I wanted a second to talk it over with my wife.

We went in the back and there was a guy who just finished giving a demonstration to the dealership. He said "Hey guys, do you want some pizzas? If you don't I'm going to have to throw them out". I said no initially but he said "Seriously they're going out in the garbage if you don't take them". I agreed and walked out to our car to put three huge pizza boxes in the back. The dealers said "woo hoo pizza". After we went back in, my wife told me she was insulted they wouldn't take our trade in especially with it being low mileage, mint condition and clean record with the full package of premiums. We told them we were not interested and would be returning to the other dealer the next day to try to work out their deal. To add insult to injury the manager said "No car, no pizza...I want the pizzas back". At first I thought he was kidding...surely he wasn't going to take back the pizzas. It wasn't even one of his employees that gave them to me, it was an outside contractor that just so happened to be in back on his way out of the place. I said "They were given to me" and he retorted "They were given to you in my building, now give me back those pizzas".

Needless to say I never have been more insulted by a car dealership. I definitely will not be returning there even though I managed to get them under invoice after 6-7 hours of negotatiating. I just am hoping to God that my first dealer is a bit more reasonable tomorrow when I go in to talk to him. Wish me luck (sorry this is a long post ... it's my first on Edmunds.com and I have a lot of steam to vent).

    Sincerely,
    JJ Parks :)

It'd be nice to have a non-haggle experience. Wish I knew about them sooner, even if it means I end up paying a little more in the end. At least I can customize the options I want at a fair price. :) I may just have to order a pizza afterwards to celebrate =P
  • karlytrkarlytr Member Posts: 6
JJ.... I am speechless. Those miserable rotten people... Hearing this truly makes me want to cry. THE PIZZA???? THEY ASKED FOR THE PIZZA BACK??? :surprise:

PLEASE post the name of the dealer, and the city, because other potential buyers should know of the lack of integrity demonstrated by that dealership. They don't deserve anyone's business.

Even if other dealers are further away, it might be worth the trip to check them out. You deserve to find people who will treat you and your wife with dignity and respect.

Best of luck. Lord knows you need it!!

Wow... This is rediculous! You should post the dealer's name to warn others.

There are tons of dealers out there wanting your business. You could save yourself time by sending them emails to start.

This is the best time of the year. Their sales are slow and good luck on your car purchase.

    Sincerely,

    JC

I have no problem telling the name of this place. They offered me a great deal on the actual car price after a few hours of haggling, but due to the fact that they insulted me with everything and then changing their mind three times about our trade, I will not go back there unless they seriously apologize to me. I did, however, receive a call from the corporate office today so it seems to me that someone somewhere made a complaint or report about what happened last night. Don't go there....period.

OK. Took a week off for Holidays, now I've got to get this Rav4 this week! Followed your good advice, folks, and bot CR Price Kit. Decided on 2008 Base V6 with accessories of Tow Pkg, Carpet/Cargo Mats, shift knob, daytime lites, cargo tray, rear bumber applique, roof rack. Dealer Inv price 23,092 MSRP 25,227 CR Bottom line 22,629 Dealer Holdback 463. Looking at Black or the new Savannah. Can I get some advice?? What should I shoot for in terms of price? Do I need to to look at each dealership site to find inventory or is there a better way? Do I just leave that to the dealers when I talk with them? First time out doing this, so any suggestions in the next couple days really welcome! Happy New Year! El
  • ellayellay Member Posts: 15
Forgot to mention these discussions of advertising fees/documentation fees, etc confuse the heck out of me. Do the CR bottom line prices really mean Out the Door, as you have been talking about? Guess what I'm asking is, what do you think with a 6% sales tax I should have to write the check for?

    Daniel-
Don't know if you are still shopping, but if so....you should easily be able to score an '08 RAV-4 in the Maryland suburbs of DC for invoice price plus the $100 dealer markup, which is the maximum allowed by law in MD.

I bought one at the end of November at DARCars in Silver Spring. Took only 2 brief e-mails to get them to offer me a V6 Ltd. at invoice. Also check out the inventory and prices posted online by fitzmall.

With rare exception I have given up buying my cars in Northern VA, even though I live there. Generally speaking, the arrogance among most NOVA dealers is exceeded only by the amount of their "non-negotiable" dealer prep fees.

Just took delivery of my Sport V6 FWD with the following options (option A plus mats):

    - Tonneau cover with multi-purpose cargo net with support poles (CD)
    - 50 state emissions (FE)
    - Daytime Running Lights (DRL) (RL)
    - JBL® AM/FM 6-disc in-dash CD changer with satellite radio capability [7], MP3/WMA capability, hands-free phone capability via Bluetooth® [8] and nine speakers (includes subwoofer and steering wheel audio controls) (EJ)
    - Power tilt/slide moonroof with sunshade (SR)
    -Carpet floor mats/cargo mats (CF)

    So here is the breakdown:

    1) Sport V6 FWD plus options ($24,500)
    2) Doc fees ($55)
    3) Tax, 7.75% of $24,555 ($1,903.01)
    4) Optional DMV Electronic Filing Fee ($28)
    5) License fees ($218)
    6) California tire fees ($8.75)

    Total = $26,713 OTD

End of the year is the best time to buy! My quote came in at $850 below dealer invoice. I could have gotten it a little lower but this was good enough for me.

I would highly advise you to go for the V6 if you can afford it. It's nice having another 100hp under your foot.

My questions are: what is the great deal on this car(I don't trade in my car)? would it make differences if I pay by cash? Do i have to buy CR cars buying Kit for $39 or $14?

I had a test drive and emailed to local dealers. I got a quote from$ 22,319 to $ 22,674 from Kansa city, they told me RAV4 is on high demand, so they don't watn to lose $$$. I also emailed to Omaha dealers and I got no response. I appreciate your inputs! Thank you.

I just dropped a deposit on a delivery for mid January and price I ended up agreeing on was $26,800. Looking for input to see if I should keep looking and cancel my deposit?
    Year:2008

    Model:RAV4
    Trim:5 Door 4WD SUV LTD
    Exterior Color:Black
    Interior Color:/Ash/Gray
    Transmission:5 Speed Automatic
    Engine: V6
    MSRP: $29,245
    Price:$26,800.00

This is the one with the simplest configuration, no 3rd row seat, no leather or heated seats and no optional accesories. all the standard ones that Limited comes with. Is that a good price? or should I keep looking?

You have the best negotiating leverage right now, end-of-year sale. I don't know how competitive it is in the twin city but here in San Diego, most dealers will match $500 below dealer invoice. Others can go even lower.

On December 27, 2007 I purchased a 2008 RAV4 4wd base and I believe I got a good deal using the info from this forum. So now I would like to share my information.

Before I found this forum I was worried that I would be paying too much because, according to Edmunds, the TMV was so close to the MSRP.

I emailed 4 Toyota dealers in the area the following info:

"I am looking for a 2008 RAV4 base 4-wheel drive. The options I would like are roof rack, carpet floor/cargo mat set, tonneau cover and daytime running lights. The colors that interest me are Black, Barcelona Red, Pacific Blue or Silver (in that order).
I have already driven the RAV 4 so I do not need a test drive. I do not have a trade-in. I am looking to buy this week as my lease on my present car is ending. I will not be leasing the RAV4.
Could you please email me a quote on a RAV 4 that you have in stock? I would also consider a new 2007 model."

Note: The MSRP would be about $23,904 and the invoice according to Edmunds would be about $21,700.

    I received the following quotes:
Dealer A: $22,000 Barcelona Red with about 300 miles on it from a dealer swap in Virginia. They also quoted $22,733 for a Silver.
Dealer B: $22,100 for a Barcelona Red or Silver
    Dealer C:$22,431 for a Black
Dealer D: $22,485 for a Blue or Red

I then went to my local Toyota dealer and told the salesman the two lowest quotes I had were $22,000 and $22,100 and asked him if he could better it. He said he would match the $22,000 quote and get me a Black (which is what I really wanted) that same day. He showed me his invoice price which was $22,135 and said that I would be getting it for $135 UNDER INVOICE. I did look at the invoice and it did not seem to have anything unusual like advertising fee etc, but it was probably $400 higher than that on Edmunds.

I accepted the deal since it was the lowest quote of 6 RAV4's quoted and it was the color I wanted and from my local dealer where I intend to get it serviced.

I felt I got a good deal but would welcome any comments or suggestions to learn for future purchases.

To close the loop I did email back the other dealers the following:
"Thank you for your quote. However, I elected to buy my RAV4 at (Local Dealer Name) . I appreciated your prompt response and fair price.

    Thanks again for your advice!

Hi MPG: I'm ready to buy a 2008 Rav4 Base 6 cyl FWD with mats, tray, remote start, rack, applique, knob & tow pkg. MSRP 25,227, Invoice less holdback is 22,629. I plan to pay $24,000 out the door (fees, docs, and 6% sales tax). First real quote was at 25,150, since a couple dealers just quoted msrp, I guess to see if I was paying attention. so I think I'll get what I am shooting for, which is basically invoice less listed holdback plus sales tax. They make $$, I'm ok with that. Unlike you, I am willing to drive to an out of town dealer within a couple hrs to get a fair deal. I think if you buy the car around invoice price plus your state sales tax, dealer is still making a nice profit on internal incentives we can't know about. So
you have to decide how much energy you really want to invest in the buying process....I'd like to buy now, but I travel so I can look in other areas. Also, Honda's little suv is still in the running with me too.
    I bet you're gonnna love your RAV4!
btw, nice note to those dealers you did not choose....probably surprised them!

Let us know how it goes on your purchase. I think what you are saying is your quote is about $2521 above what you want to pay. Seems like a long way to go.

BTW I also looked at the Honda CRV also. I did not like it as much as the RAV4 mainly because it looks like a small mini van now that the spare tire is no longer on the back door. Also I love the under the floor storage compartment on the RAV4.

Hi M:let me restate more clearly: I am willing to pay $24,000 out the door and I have a quote of $25,150. I'm thinking it's just another $1150 dealer has to come down.guess I'm thinking Invoice Price minus Consumer Report listed Holdback-- which would add up to $463 under dealer invoice price. I am only willing to add sales tax to that figure--no documentation fees, title fees, I am using the Consumer Report Buying kit's Bottom Line Number, just not willing to add any of the dealer's fees to it. Sound fair? This is most likely going to be an order since they can't find one in the trading area, so it's not like I can ask to see an invoice for an existing Rav4. I trusted Consumer Report's numbers and the folks here on this forum in terms of prices paid. When you said you paid $135 under invoice, did you factor in the Dealer Holdback or incentives? On top of that did you have to pay documentation and/or title fees? It's all very confusing; I feel like when we all come at our pricing from different directions, it sometimes like talking apples and oranges. If I had to do this with everything I purchased, I'd join some commune and go off the grid!

    Hi CoolLunchBox,

Where in San Diego did you please get the car for $850 under invoice?

How did you get the MSRP of $29245? A Limited 4dr SUV 4WD with no options should have MSRP of $27355 and invoice of $24953. I am also looking at RAV4. Which dealer did you get the quote?
  • chshjoannachshjoanna Member Posts: 3
I think you got a good deal. How did you do that? did you do internet pricing first, by phone or ??? I am looking for a rav4 too, but I won't get as low as price like you. Which area did you get the Rav4? Thanks

I am looking for a Rav4 4x4 2008 base model and have no idea how to go through negotiation process. Please help!! Thank you very much :confuse:
  • katfilekatfile Member Posts: 3
Because its a V6. MSRP you are quoting is for 4cyl.
  • katfilekatfile Member Posts: 3
Thanks for your reply. Its hard to broker a deal on something thats not even in the lot. None of the dealers had a car sitting in the lot for my spec (v6, LTD, 4wd - basic config). I only found one that was there for me to pick up the same day and in the color I like the least (RED).
even though I am paying 26,800... it was 150 below dealers invoice.. which was 550 over mfg invoice I got from edmunds..of course dealers invoice includes adv fees etc.
Good to be down in so cal if you're buying RAV4. Seems like you can find and pick one up relatively easily.

    HELP
    Am condsidering a 2007 Rav 4 Limited/FWD/2.3 Liter I4
This vehicle is certified pre-owned with 11.5K miles

    Options:
    JBL CD player
    Daytime Running Lights
Dark Tint on windows maybe after market

    According to this website info:

    MSRP $24,570
    Invoice $22,661
    Smart Target Price $23,615

    Dealer Offered $22,994
and $1,200 on my 1995 Chevy Blazer on trade

So the vehicle is $21,794 before a $399 "processing fee" and
    Taxes/Tag.

I'd be OTD at $23,624 but they want me to add $875+tax ($927.50)
for a "Wrap Package" which is Bumper to Bumper factory warranty
for 7years/100K. Since this is a 2007 it would time out in 2014 and
I would get 89K miles covered.
With this Wrap I'd be out the door $24,552

Any responses would be appreciated. Set to deal tomorrow 12/31/07.

CB: About the Extended Factory Warranty, I've been advised these are usually not a good deal for the buyer on a newer car with a high reliability rating (RAV4) and the long regular factory warranty. It would not be something I'd pay that kind of $$ for. Also, $399 for their paperwork is just another negotiable number; so just lump that in with the other numbers and see if you are satisfied with the bottom line. If not, ask them to cut it in half, or take it off. It's negotiable just like everything else.

I'm trying to buy by tomorrow too and we're still $1000 apart; so I may not make it. But there's always another car and another day. And with all the information available online (Consumer Reports Car Buying reports), no reason a dealer can't make a profit and a buyer can avoid paying too much. The process shouldn't be such a hassle, but it is what it is. Good luck.

    OK Thanks for the clarification.
As for me, my out the door cost was $23448.50. The breakdown was $22000 for the purchase price plus $1320 PA 6% sales tax plus $128.50 which included PA Tire Tax ($5.00), $55.00 for documentary fees and $68.50 for Title & Tags.

As far as paying $135 under invoice, I said it was under the invoice that the dealer showed me, not what is on Edmunds. It probably still includes hold back.

Let us know how your actual deal goes.

Well, it doesn't look like end of month/year is a great time in this area to be looking for a Rav4. Previous posts on here indicated there wasn't much motivation at Louisville area Toyota dealers and they were right. I've emailed and visited, and am getting quotes very near MSRP, plus one dealer just told me they'd have to charge me $250 to "locate" a Rav4 for me. That little Honda is looking better all the time. gonna have to switch forums!! Thanks for all the great insight on this thread. Ellay

    Ellay,
Thanks for the quick response. I "think" the deal is OK, but who knows. The Rav have been selling fast here (Northwest Florida). Have been obsessing about for days. I think the Rav I'm looking at is a lot of car for the money after driving several other cars. As for the Extended Factory Warranty on the Certified Used Car, I'm thinking of getting it. I realize the car will still have over two years and 25K miles factory on it, but with the cost of even minor repairs these days, it doesn't seem like that bad a deal. A couple of pesky problems just out of warranty could cost you a boat load of money. Will post what happens tomorrow.

I am interested in purchasing in the Phila/Lancaster/York area and saw your price of $23448 OTD. Can you tell me where you made the deal? Thanks.

Here is the basic Information from the sticker:
    Base 25840
    CD Changer 200
    Cargo Net and Cover 140
    DRL 40
    Moonroof 900
    Tow Prep 160
    Mats 199
    Dest 685

    I negotiated the following:
    24000 price
    1770 tax
    45 reg/title processing fee
    190 reg/title
    10 inspection fee
    12.50 tire fee

    26027.50 OTD

I thought this was a fair deal, not great, not bad.
The car has turned out to have damage on the underside. (The four sides and top are fine.) I did not think I had to have a mechanic put a brand new Toyota up on a rack. At the price negotiated, do you think the dealer knew about the underside damage?
I wish you all better luck.

I've done my research on price and send quite a few emails. However the prices were all near to MSRP. I went into a local dealer to test drive the car and I liked it. However, the best price is $26,880 + TTL (Rav4 2008 limited v6 with 4 options - moonroof, tow package, daylight and JBL 6 CD). The best price I've got is $26,880 + TTL. According to Edmund, the invoice price with option should be $25,418. The web price in MD shows really close to invoice and good price though! (The best is without bargain)

I'm in Austin TX and I've got quote from Dallas and Houston via email. Nobody seems interested. Perhaps, they are all in holiday mood?!

In fact, I don't need this car right now. I want it before June 1, 2008. However, I thought if I can get a good price at this time, why not!

I'm getting tired and discouraged. I'm giving up buying at this time. Perhaps, I'll buy from MD and pay to ship (Shipment is $750) later. I'll see next year.

    ellay,
Since you responded to my post, I thought I'd let you know how my deal turned out.

    2007 Rav 4 Limited Certified Pre-owned 11.5K miles

    Upgrades
Premium Radio was the only option previous owner selected.
Vehicle also has after market tinted windows ($200.00)

    According to Edmund's,

    MSRP 24,530
    Invoice 22,629
    Smart Target Price 23,576

Dealer Price started at 25,850 when it was first traded in (Nov 07) then 23,850, then 22,994, then 22,869

I traded a 1995 Chevy Blazer for 1,200 which I didn't think I could sell around here for more than 1K (ABS would cost about 1,500 to fix according to Chevy dealer), if I could sell it at all.

    New Price 21,669
    399 Processing fees (yeah right!)
    1324 Taxes
    69 Title
    Total Price 23,459

I also extended the factory warranty to 7 years/100K, no deductable, for 1K.

    OTD price was 24,519

This seemed like as good a deal as I was going to get in this area. I'm pleased with the purchase though I HATE to spend money on automobiles! Buying autos is more akin to buying a house than say a TV or Refrigerator. Market demand is different everywhere. I hope you find what you like at a price you can live with. I think that's the best you can expect. Good luck! CB

Hey CB, I think your deal looks fine! And when you convert the pymt for that 7 yr warranty into monthly, just looks like a little extra insurance. Buys peace of mind.
I really don't hate spending the money on a car....what I hate is shopping. At least when I have to shop for furniture, it's pretty cut and dried. This car (blank) is something else. I don't like the idea of overpaying for anything. Maybe I should start questioning these Consumer Price Buying Reports....It either ain't happenin' in the Louisville area or the dealers are misreading me. I would get a new car every year if it weren't for the process. I have a great car now, but ready for a change. Just isn't going to be a Rav4 I guess unless I buy it while I'm travelling this winter, which may not be a bad idea. I go to FL soon...may be some better deals there.
Be happy with your deal and your Rav4. You did great. Ellay
