That dealer sounds rotten, if they can't find a truck then go elsewhere. You can use GM BuyPower to search dealer inventory in your area on your own.

Hey i like the stock rims its the tires i dont like i like how the truck looks with the P265 Goodyear AT/S. If it comes with the firestone im having the dealer take it and get them changed for me and im gonna pay the difference. The salesman im dealing with is great. Hes even gonna have a rhino spray in bed liner put in for me at a discount.
One last thing the chicks will dig it no matter what. Forget the camaros and mustangs they really want a guy with a silverado. Trust me you tell them your gonna get one soon and they all want to drive it. Maybe i should charge admission and it will help pay for it.

this message is for those of you getting a 3 door ext cab because you prefer the "extra cab strength". are you planning on rolling your truck often? seriously...if you don't want 4 doors, that's ok, it's your truck. i want 4 doors cuz i'm pretty damn lazy and don't want to walk around my truck or push my seat forward to access the rear. that's me. by the way, i don't plan on rolling my truck often either, so that's the other reason i feel safe with 4 doors...yeah right, that's it...

This is my first time on this forum, so I would like to thank everyone in advance for their help. I was wondering if any current Silverado 2500 4x4 Extended Cab owners could give me some info on their experiences. Specifically, I am interested in hearing what kind of gas mileage you have been getting on the road or in town, and which rear end gear you got? I am about a month or two away from placing an order for my new truck and I want this to be the last pickup I buy, period. That is why I'm going for the 2500, not knowing how many boats, horse trailers, etc. might be waiting in my future. I test drove both 1500 and 2500 4x4 Ex Cabs a few weeks ago, and I really liked the 6.0L better than the 5.3L, and I prefer the firmer ride and better brakes of the 2500. I have considered waiting for the new GM diesel in 2001, to get the longer life and better fuel mileage of a diesel, but don't know if I can wait that long, or longer, until they have built enough of those engines to work out the bugs. Any comments or info you can give me would be a great help. Thanks.

I must agree with moudry1 - the seats flip forward a little bit, but the access is not good. I have the 40/20/40 split bench with power and I think that makes life even more difficult. However, I wanted the flip down seat as a huge armrest/CD holder and I'm o.k. with it. When I need to put things in the back, I have to walk around. It's not a big deal to me since I park away from must of the cars anyway to prevent door dings. After walking most of the parking lot, what's an extra few feet to reach the 3rd door? I wish that Chevy would have put on a fourth door with the redesign, but I'm happy with three.

The manual seats are easy to flip down to access the extra cab. I don't notice any inconvenience compared to having another door on the drivers side. Heck, even when I am on the passengers side, most of the time I forget I can open the 3rd door and I just fold the passenger seat down and access the back cab that way. The only time I actually "need" any back doors is when I lift the back seat up and actually haul something in the back cab, like when I went hunting. I put my guns and gear back there. Other than when the wife and son ride with me, thats the only time I have actually used the 3 door. I doubt a 4th door would be any different for me.

I really don't miss having a 4th door, especially with the wait and extra cost of the 4 door models.

2500 is the way to go. I have had mine for 2 months now, and i love it. It is ext cab, 4x4, 4.10 rearend, and 5-speed with granny gear. With the 4.10s i am getting about 10-12 mpg. This is the first time i have had 4.10s. I love the pulling power it has, but sometimes i wish i had the 3.73, mainly because i have to shift a lot sooner with the 4.10s. One thing i did do was swap the 245s tires in for 265s, which i did not even notice any loss of power since i have the 4.10s. I have the light duty shocks on it, only because i had to settle for them. I have heard the heavy duty shocks actually handle better, but not ride better. The light duty shocks are perfect for me. I had 12 girls in the bed of the truck for a homecoming parade and the truck did not lower too much. My old 1500 would have looked like a low rider.

For the extra bit....it's so much better of a truck.

MPG os about 13 for me - 80 on highway....55 in city.

3/4 may be a while to wait...but stick it out...it's worth it.

And anyone else who can help, I have a 4 door on order that has been changed to a 3 door. I am thinking about staying with the 3 door to get it sooner and to get a more solid cab. My concern is getting things in and out of the back seat from the driver's door (we ordered the reclining buckets with power). Do the 2000 LS power reclining seats swivel forward for access to the back seat?

I had the leaf springs replaced to get rid of the clanking noise on my 99 Z71 LT. When they first replaced them, the rear end sat a lot higher than it did before. Now it seems to have "sagged" down to its original height. Is this normal?

I have a strange problem with my 99. This message comes on the multifunction display more often than not when I am coming out of my parking ramp at work. The exit of the ramp is a tight left turn spiral about 8 stories from top to bottom. I've checked the coolant levels and they are fine. The only way to get rid of the message is to turn the key off and then back on again, once I'm out of the ramp. Any ideas?

The skins fit really good....the rear fit is perfect...and towards the cab it seems to get wider??
I could either follow the outside line and have the inside too farr in...or vice versa....i chose down the center to make the stake pockets even.
Sounds like a big deal....trust me...it ain't. I'm just too anal with these things.

Glad I got the Rails too.....they be bad [non-permissible content removed] in my Opinion.

All leaf springs will sag from the newly arched shape, settling back to a normal ride height. Nothing to fret about. Measure the distance from the center of the wheel hub to the fender lip, and write it down, to track changes.

You can have springs re-arched, but it's only temporary if you don't add a leaf at the same time. Pneumatic helper springs let you set the ride height, to properly re-level after you add you payload. You add air to put the distance from the wheel hub to the fender lip where you measured it when empty.

My '99 power seats flip forward for easy access to the back. That's the back only though, the entire seat does not move forward.

Did the '00 remove this handy feature? Seems silly to make a change like that.

Not just for rollovers. For cabin quietness (less movement due to more rigidity) and protection from side impacts.

Would that sway me? No. I'm happy with my 3-door. Would be happy with a 4-door. But as I've mentioned, unless you have a TON of room, the back door is more a pain than anything useful. You open the front door, open the back door, close the front door so you aren't trapped between the doors while your passengers get out, open the front door so you can close the back door, close the back door then close the front door.

I'd rather have larger front doors and forget the back door completely.

I would guess the coolant is sloshing over and the sensor thinks it's low. I'm surprised it doesn't reset itself but they could have written the code that way. If not that then I would suspect a flaky sensor that is somehow marginal anyway. It shouldn't be too hard to diagnose either one.

Roger,my truck has the same specs as Tim's.It is an excellant driving truck and I highly recommend you buy one and be forever happy. I am getting about 14 mpg empty and get about 8-10 pulling a 5500# trailer. Towing performance is outstanding. Kyle, I have rolled my truck a couple of times and that sucks cause it looked so good when i first got it. O.k.,I did'nt really roll my truck, the strength I was refering to is as richard has explained in #540. My 5 year old sits there. Ryan, I liked the stock wheels too but the 245's that came with the 2500 had to go. Also I got the most popular color (pewter), so I wanted a different look. I do know the chicks will dig you're truck. As for me only one chick drives (our) truck most every day (married ya know). Maybee check out the line-x liner first, this is the second one for me in this truck and I would definately recommend them.

The 2000 models do not have reclining seats, in either the manual or the power seats. That was something they changed between 1999 and 2000. I'm pretty sure it wasn't just trucks from certain factories, because I've looked at trucks from both Canada and the US plants and they are all the same.

The owners manual even states that you "may" have reclining seats.

I also agree that it was a stupid change, unless it was done for safety. I don't know why it would be unsafe, since it required a lever to be pushed forward to move the seat.

What I've done in my LT is to program one of the seat memory buttons for far forward. On the rare times that I need to access the back from the drivers side pushing that button will slide the seat (mostly) out of the way. Most of the time I don't need to mess with it.

well after months of research and patience, i made my order.
'00 LS Z71 Ext Cab 4-dr
about $500 over invoice after trade allowance.
now, i only have to wait 4-5 months to get it.
for outstanding service anywhere in the continental united states, call greg stancill at montgomery chevy in louisville, ky. he will deliver anywhere in the cont. usa (and pick your trade up if you have one) for $500 over invoice.
we did the deal via several emails and two phone calls. granted, i don't have my new truck yet, but so far service has been prompt, professional and flawless.

In reference to post #461 (00' 4 door build date), sorry it took me time to get back to you, but things seem to happen. My dealer contacted me and said that the CAREING people at GM Corp. sent out a memo of apologies to all the dealers and understanding customers for there erroneous notification for build dates for the 4th door trucks. He also said they have given my truck a build date of 12-13-99. Again we will see. After driving a '99 Silverbrato, a little longer will not affect me tooooooo much! If I have further info, I will get back to you.

mtramell, Don't you feel there can be more than one legitamate use for a truck? What is a person to tow a fifth wheel with? There are many uses for a truck that don't require mud and grime. How about hauling furniture, lumber etc? Maybe thats why Chevy makes a base model for those who haul the dirty stuff, work on a farm or ranch, roofing, etc. Now the LS for those who like a few more compforts and don't get their clothes full oil, grease and mud and then the LT for those who like even more comfort and never haul dirty stuff but do haul weight. But then I'm sure theres a farmer somewhere who has an LT yet hauls pigs. But thats his choice. Great to be a free country.
... How you doing Tim? Wore out that truck yet? I havn't got mine yet but am planning the next one, a 2003 Chevy HD diesel/allison(g). Will see. Hope Chevy has it in production by then so I can consider it. ... Rich

No I'm waiting for the other slow manufactuer, Dodge. Have a 2500 4x4 SLT+ V10 auto 4.10 and a few other goodies. Got a call from my Chevy Saleman last Friday, I was outside doing chores. When I came in I called him and he said he thought he could order me a 4 door 2500. But by the time I called back Chevy had called the dealership saying the 2500 4dr allocations were a mistake. The allocations were for 3 drs. Also they told him 1/2 ton 4dr orders were being changed to 3 drs. If true thats going to make some happy truck owners. He also said he thought it would be May before customers see any 3/4 ton 4 drs. Yesterday I saw om Ward's automotive they are reporting Chevy is having problems with the 4 drs jamming in minor accidents. They may have to redesign the latches or something. Ford also has a 5 month wait for v10's as they are being used in the new exibitions. Dodge has a different reason for holds every week. This week its my color. Been 10 wks now and we won't have it for our trip by early January the dealer says. I need to call Friday and see If our reservations can be deferred. Maybe those new Chevy Diesels will be out before I get a vehicle. ... Rich

When you say they bought for $500 over invoice, I am always curious to know if they have considered the holdback or not. Because holdback on Silverados is 3%, did your dealership get your $500 plus the $900 holdback?

It sucks to be you I guess. We haven't seen 100 degrees up here in Northern Wisconsin for quite a while. But we have seen -40, and believe me, there's nothing better than those heated seats working in the leather option. Can't get that with cloth.

Also to Trammell, I know you've already taken a beating on this but, My trucks main purpose is to commute 30 miles each day to work (office) and back. I use it for the higher visibility line, the 4x4 in winter and those cushy leather seats (with heater of course). I'll take this over those overpriced import luxury vehicles any day.

yeah they did. if you can find a dealer that will sell you a 4 door for less than invoice, even when they DO go into production, my hat's off to you. i don't know any dealers, any employees of gm, nor do i have the buypower card. bottom-line, i'm forced to negotiate from invoice, cuz i don't know anyone on "the inside". the best i could get in my local area was about $1000 over invoice ($1934 if you count the dealer holdback). i think the only time you'll have any luck bringing dealer holdback up is when a dealer has a vehicle he's trying really hard to move. the 4 door silverados are going to move themselves. they've already started to, that's why the 3 doors aren't selling.
if my dealer gets me a 3 door, i'm going to shove it right up his posterior. i waited this long for a 4 door, that's what i'm gonna get. why? because it's what i want.
for those of you fighting over the leather vs. cloth seats, for $1700 (approx cost for 6-way power, 2 pos'n memory, heated, fully leather seats) those damn things better do a lot more than keep me warm if you know what i mean.

Yes, I have gotten in a truck with leather seats when it is 105 degrees outside. With the dark windows and the fact that leather doesn't hold heat that badly (it's not vinyl ...) it really isn't that bad. Oh, and I never wear anything but shorts. Winter or Summer. Ask my wife. And my boss.

But if I lived in a really hot area of the Country, such as Arizona, I would most likely stick with cloth. Scratch that ... the LT is worth it. I want leather.

I drove both the LT & LS models. Both trucks had bucket seats. The only difference was the LS was cloth.

You can get much more comfortable with the LT leather seats. Unlike the LS (which can come with the manual lumbar support), the LT has power lumbar & power back booster adjustments. The LT also has adjustable (tilt) head rests. Once you have sat in both, the LT model is the only one to buy!

Ive rode both LS with cloth, bucket and bench the cloth bench is the most comfortable in the LS and the LT bucket with leather i loved that truck it was very nice. Only problem i have is with the heated seats in my opinion its unecessary. I think the cloth bucket is comfortable enough and its about $1500 cheaper too i guess its personal comfort and choice. Oh yea the little silver LS thingy on the side of the cab looks better on the blue truck than the gold LT thingy on the blue truck.

1. ryanbab, I like the gold LT on my indigo blue better than the silver LS on the indigo blue. 2.rwagner, couldn't agree with you more, here in Austin, Tx it gets pretty hot (& humidity), seats don't get that hot. Also, love the seat heaters on mornings when the temp dips to a cool Austin 38 degrees!!
