Hi Don,
I don't have an answer to your question...but I was wondering if you got Toyota Canada to accept the warantee from Toyota USA? I have heard that the warantee is null and void once you import to Canada.
• xcrunchxcrunch Member Posts: 7
I have heard from posts on this board that Toyota will honour their warranty but Honda will not.
Regards Don
• hacheyimportshacheyimports Member Posts: 69
Toyota will cover your warranty in Canada for US made vehicles, no question at all. In fact, if you find yourself in Mexico you could fix the transmission there as well...anywhere in North America it is honoured.

Take care.

Honda considers exported vehicles to be "grey market" and will not provide warranty coverage.

Some have had success with bringing it back to the US dealership for work to be done, but I wouldn't, and don't recommend it to my customers. Assume you lose the protection if you import Hondas.

Take care

You will have a long search finding a Toyota dealer to sell directly to you. I am not discouraging your attempt, but they are under significant pressure from head office to specifically not sell new vehicles for export to Canada.

Best wishes with your quest. Plenty of options exist to work around this of course, and any and all models can be imported....just need to work around the protectionist policies.

Take care

Ralph,

You are 100% correct and I misspoke when I posted back in January. The states have reciprocal arrangements to allow for just what you suggested.

Quoting for long trips has become very difficult lately. It has certainly become more pricey with the bump in fuel costs. Plenty of good, but small shippers are finding it hard to keep head above water. I advise anyone looking to consider a number of factors before booking as often the cheapest quote is not the best. The trip down and back can be enjoyable and cost effective as long as the miles added and time spent are worth it.

Take care

We have just imported a 2008 Porsche Cayenne last week. All we need is a recall clearance letter from the US dealer. We do not have to get any letters from Porsche manufacturer or Canadian Porsche dealer. We are not required to go to the Canadian Porsche dealer to do any modifications.

I recently got two quotes.......for a new Highlander LTD

Halifax = $48,000
Boston = $34,000

I know it is difficult to purchase/import a "new" vehicle individually. Has anybody had any recent success:
1. working with a US dealer directly, or
2. Purchasing the vehicle through a broker

The difference in price is unbelieveable.......help

Finally I bought an Acura MDX after I provided a vaild US address to the dealer. I've received all documents I need including MCO, Bill of Sale and recall letter. So as you know, all these documents are under my name but with US address. The car is still in the states, and I schedule to pick it up next week. Now I am really concerning whether there will be address mismatch problem when I export it from US to canada. This morning when I submited the original MOC to US vehicle export office in Ogdensburg port, NY, the officer asked me to bring in my driver license and passport when the vehicle is shown up. What if they find the address in the documents mismatch the address in my canadian driver license? Could someones give me some opinion? Did anyone export cars from that port? Any problem so far? I would really appreciate you guy's help. Thanks alot in advance.

I just signed the petition. It makes sense and it will help. We all know the government responds to these petitions. In fact in the Bumper harmonization text on the governement site, they mention the consumer group (CWB) that submitted a petition of 1,400 names. If we don't sign, write or complain - things will not change. In politics, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

On Toyota garantees, this one is very clear. I have a US 2008 Prius and my book clearly states that the warranty is honoured in Canada and US - I would be pleased to fax or scan a copy of my book for anyone in doubt. It is also stated on Toyota's Web Site - so you should not worry about that one.

Hello all. I just wanted to post this in case anyone is interested. I together with a partner run a car and parts export business overseas for a number of years. We are just starting to looking into the possibilities of exporting to Canada. We are bonded and get cars with MSO and will sell to Canada. We can either do all the paper work for you or simply provide you with the car and you do all the paper work. We are either willing to self deliver the car to you OR arrange for the car to be delivered. We deal with ALL dealers, American, Japanese, German, etc.
Depending on options of the car, and the car itself, we get most of the cars below MSRP.
If you have any questions please feel free to send me an email at: 4autoparts@gmail.com

Thank you

Anyone here add an engine immobilizer on a car you imported from the USA? If so did it negatively impact the vehicle's performance or the warranty? I was just told by a USA Toyota dealer that you cant add an immobilizer on the Sienna CE..is that possible - I find that hard to believe?

CWB just put out a new poll to see how good the RIV is serving Canadian importers. We are now seeing a record in Car imports for the first 6 months of this year and they seem to be handling it all quite well.

You can complete the poll at http://www.carswithoutborders.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=10

Note: This story is B.C. Specific, there could be some very minor changes required depending on your Provincial requirements. But overall the process is straightforward and relatively easy to do....

Quote

"Hi Gents,

Been following the thread diligently for 6 months, and just want to give everyone a quick report of the process and timelines I went through in terms of importing my Subaru Forester 2009.

I spent a few month on the qualifying round in terms of choosing the right vehicle, time may vary for everyone obviously. However, I had a pleasant experience going through various test drive session with all the Canadian car dealers here. My wife and I eventually settled on a 2009 Subaru Forester.

Day 0: Decision on purchase made on Victoria Day (I am based in BC), May 19, 2009.
1. I called a few locations in Seattle for car purchase, the gentlemen at cars101.com, Joe, told me that as of 48 before, he no longer sells to Canadian, as we are a cheap and difficult bunch, always looking for the best deals and try to haggle (Gents, keep in mind and don’t ruin it for the rest of us). I finally found a place in Bellvue that continues to sell to Canadians.
2. Found from dealer that Vehicle is in high demand and need to be factory ordered. Gave my full name, address and my credit card to put in a 500$ USD deposit (refunded immediately) to put in the factory order
3. Wait.
4. While waiting, I ordered the accessories for the vehicle (it’s also much much cheaper in the US)

Day 37 (June 25, 2008)
1. informed that the vehicle has arrived
2. provide full address in Vancouver
3. obtain wire information for funds
4. request dealer arrange for temp plates
5. obtain vehicle VIN

Day 39 (June 27, 2008)
1. wire the full amount to Dealer

Day 42 (June 30, 2008)
1. dealer receive funds
2. dealer fax front and back MSO, work order, purchase order to US customs at Pacific crossing
3. obtain 10 day binder for insurance specific to pick up vehicle (Need Vin)
4. lost drivers license at insurance broker

Day 45 (July 2, 2008)
1. obtain temp drivers license
2. found drivers license at insurance broker
3. dealer followed up with US customs and confirm receipts of MSO

Day 46 (July 3, 2008)
1. left Vancouver at 5AM, reached dealer at 9AM
2. signed a lot of paperwork (purchase order & transfer title/update MSO)
3. obtained original MSO
4. got WA temp plates
5. leave dealer at 1030AM, arrive at US customs at 1245AM at Pacific crossing
6. park car at US side, go to US customs (follow big sign saying, export vehicles go here), with real MSO, US customs stamps and make fun of my forester
7. Back to vehicle drive past Canadian customs, explain to them car is for import to Canada, obtain a special form
8. At 130PM walk into Canadian customs, follow sign and take number under the sign that says ‘vehicle import please take a number’
9. wait until number is called, showed up with my stamped MSO, purchase order + Canadian custom form, got charged excise tax, custom tax (Vehicle is made in Japan) of 6.1% + GST on top of everything, paid with CC, obtain RIV form1
10. leave Canadian customs at 2pm, gawking at the lineup of over 40 cars waiting to be imported all this time

Day 47 (July 4, 2008)
1. pay RIV fee online
2. fax RIV form1 + MSO (Both sides) to RIV 18883468235

Day 50 (July 7, 2008)
1. called Subaru USA, obtain recall letter via email
2. fax recall letter to RIV 18886429899

Day 51 (July 8, 2008)
1. called RIV, confirm receipt of MSO, form1 & recall letter, ask them to send Form 2 to me via email
2. received in 5 hours form2 via email

Day 52 (July 9, 20008)
1. go to insurance broker, got temp plate for the 10 day binder (it’s insurance, but not plate)
2. 10 minute inspection, federal inspection is free, but paid for provincial inspection
3. go back to broker, pay PST + ICBC cost (show custom receipt for GST)
4. obtain plate
5. drink beer

Done, cost to me is (Subaru Dealer invoice (25,331$) + Dealer take (750$) + 3 day trip permit WA (33$) + dealer documentation fee ($50) + AC(100$) )x exchange as of July 3(1.0129) x (GST ( 1406.45$)+ PST (1969.11$) + 6.1% custom fees(1611.46) ) + RIV (204.75$) + Provincial Inspection (100$) + gas = 32,019.29$ << 38,166.84$ (all inclusive Canada), total saving is 6,147.55$ or 16%. Thanks to this thread + carburner.com in detailed instructions.

Good luck everyone! With the money I saved, I will contribute it back to the Canadian economy, either towards to wacky Vancouver real estate market (now wackier with the removal of 40 year mortgages), reducing inflation, by forcing car manufacturers in reducing prices, or spending it on oil from the Alberta oil sands. Who says buying American aren’t patriotic?

Cheers," end of quote.

I bought a 2008 Honda Odyssey with 8 miles on.. It was not considered Brand new but was Honda Certified Used and had been titled by Honda USA.

The trick is to find one of these. It took me a while and to find a dealer that will sell you one at good price and not at a premium as it has the extended warranty included ($1500), not that the warranty is valid for Canadians anyways.

I bought it for the 2008 EXL-RES model for $28,700(list $34,445) including documentation fee and Temporary Tag(30 days) used to drive back over to the Canadian border. I did not have to pay sales tax as it is being exported.

I bought the car from Martin Mainline Honda, in Philadelphia. I dealt with a great salesman(Steve Sacks Ext 113) who has Toronto links and was extremely helpful and professional.. I trusted him from all our emails and phonecalls and he was genuine. He even paid for my taxi from my hotel to his dealership.

I found the car through Honda USA certified used website.

I didn’t need any other tags to get to the Detroit/Windsor border as they are open 24 hrs for processing.

The only issue I came across was the US border did not export it as I Did not have the original Title which you won’t get until about 2-3weeks later. Thus the did not stamp my photocopy title. This was a pain.. I had sent them the information via FAX from the dealer as the prescribed 72 hours.

Canadian border just need the Bill of sale a copy of your title. They did not ask for the stamp from US customs..

Thus my recommendation was to go to the Canadian side directly. Tell them you are importing car at the booth.

They will ask your value and write it on a yellow slip to take inside and pay the GST and fill out form 1 for RIV. Do RIV payment of $200 online and you will get an email with form 2 about 3-4 days later. For Honda you will not be getting a Recall clearance letter from Honda USA .. RIV is aware of this and will do it for you… you can call them in advance to verify this.

You will need the original title with the safety inspection (which I did at Canadian Tire) for about $90 and did not have to change anything on this HONDA to take to the Provincial Licence center and pay the PST on the $28,600.

All in all it was pretty easy as long as you follow some of the earlier post’s step by step way of getting it here. Don’t listen to your friends telling you won’t be able to do it.. I did and save around $9,500 after all expenses ( Travel, gas, speeding ticket, exchange, etc) The officer did not question my temporary tag and new I was in transit and did not give me any problems as he could see I had all the documents.

If you have further questions email me at dd19999 at gmail dot com.

To bring a Honda Get a Certified Used and is known as No-Miler.

This dealership had a couple more with the same options.

I bought this a couple of weeks ago and even went to Atlantic city with my family the US/Canadian Border was no problem once you have the Ontario plates on this US car.

Cheers and good luck to all.

Hi to all, let me introduce myself, i'm tobamani from winnipeg canada, and i;m fed up with being jerked around from winnipeg auto dealers .I presentely lease a 2005 dodge caravan that expires in april,2009. I have been trying towork a deal in purchasing a new vehicle, but chrysler dealerships here donot want my business from the the quote i received for a 2008 sebring lx base model, and the ending of the lease with the purchase of new car to the dealership, where i got the lease from. So, i have decided to run out the lease till expiry date, then purchase my next new car in Phoenix, Mesa, AZ.
I own a park model in Mesa, and have been spending 6 months a yr there. I would appreciate recommendations of friendly dealership towards canadian buyer.I'm interested in 2008-2009 malibu, and also 2008-2009 sonota gl with automatic, i will not purchase anything from chrysler.I have other concerns, but will post them in later msgs. Thx for reading my post, tobamani

Hi,

I bought a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX in Bellingham, WA in February and saved 8K or 10k, depending on how you look at it. The cheapest WRX you could buy in BC at that time, all taxes and fees in, was ~40k. I purchased my WRX, all taxes and fees in, for ~30K. But my WRX had about 2K in less options (options you are required to purchase in Canada, but that I did not really need/want).

I have since created a document that takes as a starting point the 21 steps outlined here:

http://www.importcartocanada.info/guide ... om-the-us/

and then adds my personal experiences, extra information I obtained, etc. Several acquatances have since used the document with great success. I think it would be useful to anyone importing a vehicle from the US, especially if they are importing it into Vancouver, B.C.

Anyone who would like a copy can send an e-mail to Bob_Langelaan@telus.net requesting a copy.

Happy shopping :) ,

Bob

I was wondering what they charged you as I will be hopfully be transporting a 2003 mustang from California to buffalo as well? How long did they take to get the car to Buffalo? Did you have the seller fedex the title or did you have it sent with the car?

Also is anyonw aware of the "Bond shed" in mississauga? I spoke to a few transport companies who said they would clear u.s Customs and have the car brought to the bond shed in Mississauga for customs clearance there. Is this the same as what would happen at say the queenston/lewiston bridge? I provide them with title, bill of sale, recall clearance letter, pay for RIV fee etc??

Any help here is appreciated?

Hi all. I am looking into buying a Mercedes SL55 new and I notice that the price is way cheaper in the US compared to Canaidian prices. I just want to know if its worth buying in the US to save money or should I save the headache and just settle for a Canadian car?? Thanks!

Have you bothered doing even a cursory "search" ,topic Mercedes, or should we do it for you, organize and send them to you?

In the first 6 months of the year, over 70,000 Canadians saved over $350 million buying vehicles in the US. If you have money to burn... take the easy way out and buy in Canada!

Have you bothered ...

A simple "try scrolling back" or "try a simple search" would have been more friendly and inviting. :)

If you want to reach out and help many Canadians, then contact the boys at www.carswithoutborders.com... they will help certify and recommend your operation, and could possibly designate you as "Canadian Friendly" .

unfortunately, being from canada the sales people from fitzmall dont like to sell new sienna 2008 LE 8 evp 2 @ $23,142 to canadians

the price of a 2008 Sienna Le with matching specs is $36,550 in toronto
