Your tires are worn out from racing all those mustangs and camaros stoplight to stoplight. GO slow and show your truck off u know yours is better and faster no need to prove it all the time.
You are partly correct. I have dusted off a few 5.0 L Mustangs - the look on their face when they get taken off the line and left in the dust by a full size 4x4 truck is worth the $2.00 worth of rubber I leave behind. The Camaro Z-28 is faster that my Silverado, so I don't race them anymore. The sound of the 5.3 L V8 at full throttle puts a smile on my face.
OK GUYS what looks better a Silverado 4x4 or a small cramped camaro????? Id have to say the silverado is so much better and who cares if it is a little slower no biggie they can go places a camaro cant.
Sorry, I don't have a picture posted of my truck. Come to think of it I don't even have a picture of my truck yet . I will try to get something on here for you soon. So far the additions are: over the rail line-x bed liner, Lund x-terminator bug guard, Westin step bars, and the python wheels with 265's to replace the stock 245's. Gibson exhaust and a K&N filtercharger (when available), will be next. The truck is a 00' 2500 LT 4x4 ext. cab short box in pewter.
"Anyone tried putting a remote starter on your Silverado? With winter coming on, it would be nice to be able to start the truck from inside the house.
Any recos on brands/suppliers?"
i've heard nothing but bad things about remote starters. i think it was on the topic "PlaneJane got her Silverado", but i'm not sure. i have no first hand knowledge of remote starters, but i DO remember reading negative comments about them. predominantly negative comments... kyle
One thing to keep in mind is that the LT will most likely have a higher resale value than a LS with the same equipment. Just go to Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds and run a comparison and you'll see what I mean. Rule of thumb, if it is harder to get and everyone wants one the value will be higher. Regarding getting the 2500 LT, I even thought about doing that except I would never use the 3/4 ton and I did not want all the extra weight that comes along with a 3/4 ton. Did like the thought of getting the 6.0L though. My dealer had a LT coming in that was exactly what I wanted (Dec 15th delivery date), guess what, LT's put on hold. Since he thought it was coming in a few days, I sold my BMW M3 (had just sold my 95 T100 a week earlier). So now I'm without a vehicle and he finds out that my truck has been rescheduled Feb 25th !!! Well, ok...now what do I do? He put me up in a car until my truck came in !!! Hello? is this a Chevrolet dealer?...Yep! Must say I was not expecting them to treat me like that. I thought they would say "your on your own buddy".
What did u mean by Like you are going to go to those places a camaro cant? I am talking about can u put a boat on the back of a camaro take it down a ramp launch it then bring it back up the ramp when your done? Can you go offroading with a camaro granted i wont do it much but i plan on doing it. Can you when u need to carry building materials (ok ive seen it done in camaros cause i work in a lumber yard and guess what the excuse is they forgot to bring the truck like they really have one) There is no car in this world at the moment that i would even consider buying. The only ones that are close maybe like 1% is the new monte carlo and maybe a new corvette. Bluebeast: The LT's are on hold????? Maybe this is why my salesman told me to get the LS. I did all the math and if i got an LS with all the lt options (except the ones u cant get) it comes out to like $2700 and i am actually paying with the LT like $1500 i think i might as well get an LT does anyone agree?
It appears that I got a bad tire from Firestone. http://www.bridgestone-firestone.com/ I called the tech number for the manufacturer http://www.bridgestone-usa.com/contactus.htm who said that I should go back and have them remounted (rotated 180 degrees) and if that didn't significantly reduce the weight, my tire should be replaced. Did that and the weight was only dropped by .5 oz. The manager at the tire shop wasn't in so they wouldn't replace the tire until I talked to him the next day. Called Firestone again and they referred me to an engineer who wouldn't actually tell me what was an acceptable allowance for weights to balance the tire but did give me a long code to give to the tire guys so they could return the tire for credit. Got the new tire put on last night and no problems.
I believe the number is closer to 98%. Unless you are looking at an extended cab truck in which case you can actually put your buddies in the back seat. You can do that with the Camaro but they won't be your buddies when they get out. I use my truck off road but most people never do and very rarely do they ever work truck to it's capacity.
so many usefull purposes. They are the ultimate utility vehicle. I made the mistake of buying a Blazer when it was the "in" thing to do and never really liked it. Finally got rid of it and will be buying a truck, not because there cool or neat, but because anymore it's just like a car with a bed to carry things. Like I said the ultimate utility vehicle. Heck you could probably strap wood a top a Yugo if you wanted, but lets get real. There powerful, look nice, and hold there value good. I think anybody who buys a truck makes a wise decision, I've always had to borrow someone elses, but no more. Take care...
...But I go into the nasty places when I get a chance...
2-tracks are just a bumpy road that most cars should be able to handle...
I'm not in a field of work where it gets the full potential...but I;m not afraid to load it down either.
I was at a nursery a few months back...a guy had a 1/2 Z71 with a bed liner and a cover...
he was getting dirt and had a tarp over the liner to avaoid getting it dirty...the guy came with a 1/2 yard of dirt...after 1/3-1/2 was emptied into it...he yelled to stop cuz that's all he wanted to take at once!
THAT is the person I am talking about.....which is more than you may think.
Just before the old 1/2 retired I hauled 6 loads of 21AA cushed limestone at about 2800 a load...too much for a 1/2....but it didn't seem to hurt it?
My bro in law has a Ram 2500 with a diesel....after I got my 2500...I had hauled 6 pallets of blobks/bricks at about 2800-3000 a pallet...and we were talking and he said the most he would put in at once would be about 1000 lbs!
Another case of who I am talking about....
Where is this going??
dunno..
I gotta run!

...(But for most truck owners...A camaro would do!)
I have seeen something close to this. I seen a honda accord strap 3 2x6x24 ft pices of lumber along with some 2x4's to the top in the middle of winter. I am not kidding i see it all the time.
TIM: OK now on to room which has more interior room and comfort? U dont have to answer cause we all know the answer. Hey Tim another thing u get snow where u live right? Would u rather drive ur 4x4 or a camaro out in that? Id have to go with truck for security. I can go on and on it comes down to what u like im not saying the camaros are nice good looking cars i am saying it wouldnt fit me wouldnt do what i want to do. HAVE U ACTUALLY seen a camaro tow a boat? I wanna smack that guy in his head. I have never seen it and probably never will i dont know where that came from u could do it but is it practical???? NO!
I had auto start on my old 95 k1500, and i loved it when it worked. I had a Viper 550 alarm with the auto start, and had it installed at Circuit City, big mistake. I had to take my truck back to them six times to fix it. Apparently they did not have any qualified people to install such a thing. When it finally was wired right, it was awesome. With a new battery in the transmiter, I could be in a restaurant and start it from inside. You can have programmed to stay on for 12 or 24 minutes, which i did 12 because it is not good to let the engine idle for too long, at least that was what i was told. Also, once you parked somewhere, you could push the button and leave the truck running, but take your keys with you while you went in somewhere. Of course mine was also an alarm. You could upgrade the alarm with all kinds of options, like automatic window roll up or proximity sensor. Total it was around $400 about 2 years ago. I know you can get just the remote start for around $100, but i wanted an alarm because I went off to school. Of course the new silverados have an alarm already, so the viper option may be out of the question. The only reason I have not got an auto start on my new silverado is because of the 5 speed. I like to park it in gear a lot. My recomendation, get one. They are really nice in the morning when all you want to do is stay warm. The only thing, make sure where ever you get it, that it is installed right. I do not know how many wires there are with just the auto start, but there were too many with the alarm for me to install myself.
When I visited the dealers I was amazed at the total lack of units that were not loaded to the gills with crap I don't need. But reading this forum, I can see why. People are more concerned with the freaking little gee gaws on their mirrors than whether or not the truck will hold together for 200K miles.
Now my question. Has anyone ever seen a 1500 long bed extended cab 4x4 with a manual transmission? I know that manual transmission is a dirty work to cowboy Cadillac owners, but that is what I want. 4.8L, 5-speed, A/C and limited slip. That's it. No power butt wipers or electrocromatic lighted power earwax removers.
Ryan, no no no, LT's are not on hold, this is what happened to me in Dec 1998, took delivery in Feb 1999. I just clicked over 10K miles today.
yowzabike, Love the gee gaws on my mirrors (frost melting and being able to adjust from the inside), Manual transmission is to much work in city traffic, power butt wiper comes in handy when I was a little to quick in the bathroom and missed some, and my wife loves the power earwax remover, her only compliant is that it doesn't trim the wild hairs growing from the ear also. Question..why do you want the doo dad A/C? No self respecting real truck owner would have that gizmo!!
New here, Im the truck and fleet mngr of a chevy dealership, maybe i can answer some questions, ill give it my best, the silverado with the 5.3 and 4.10s is one of the quickest iv driven. I meen of any thing BUT the SLP Z-28 with the 6spd and SLP exhaust option will stick you like a pin cushion nothing like it WHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAA HHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO
I have both. I love my 99 Silverado and drive it every day. My 81 Turbo T/A with 50K miles sits in the garage and collects dust. The crazy part is the main reason I have a 4x4 is because I have a T/A. When I lived in MN the winters were a [non-permissible content removed]. Snow, Ice & cold - The Bird was a pig on ice- I would think Dam I need a 4x4 truck. Once I bought my first 4x4 I was hooked..But I could not part with the T/A. My wife wants me to trade it off on a Honda Accord. I am sure the 99 silverado 5.3 with 270HP and 315 pounds of torque could kick [non-permissible content removed] on the 81 Turbo T/A with its 210 HP and 340 pounds of torque, Silverado also rides better and has more room. The only thing the T/A does better is corner and brake. (well besides tow & haul) I guess I will keep both of them for now.. No Accords in my future.
I have the 2500 LT Silverado...Wife has a Mustang GT convertable....I'm trying to convince her to get a WS6 T/A Convertable. She says it feels like sitting in a hole. Perhaps I can convince her to get a Cobra?? (she is a ford girl....so GM cars are hard to push on her).
Rwag,
Yeah...only here can this discussion happen.
I never wanted to compare the two....Ryan said a Camaro couldn't haul and tow....I had to defend. He also asked which is better looking...yeah they are 2 different beasts....but The good Old F-Body (Trans Am and Camaro) wins hands down for overall looks.....especially a WS-6 or a Firehawk.
So lets quit polluting this topic with such a comparison. The two don't compare...but I had to defend the right of the Camaro.
To say it can't do anything but go fast...would be a block head response...
I love Performance cars to death...but overall...I'll take the truck for year round.
i apologize for bring up the camaro thing. I think that the camaros have become to "plain" i dont know up until i was 17 (3 yrs ago) i wanted a camaro believe it or not but when u want to go fishing and tow some jetsskis i think a truck is more handy. I didnt dis camaros in any way i have friends who have em and one has a brand new Trans am ram air and everything so i am around them i guess they can have that and when we go to the beach we will take my truck so lets talk about trucks and not cars anymore OK?
You said in your rambling on commentary, that you wanted to know why most of the trucks are optioned out? Duh, because there is a market for them! Most people today use their trucks like a car. I bet alot of Silverado owners hardly ever use the pickup box.
I have only seen one pickup like what you are after. I couldn't believe it had a manual transmission in the Extented Cab.
I plan on buying (or ordering) a new Silverado 4X4 LT in March but I am not sure if it should be a 1500 or 2500. For what I tow a 1500 is fine but comparing the cost of a 1500 Z71 and a 4X4 2500 there is little difference. My question is did you look at both the 1500 and the 2500? How do the rides, engines and transmissions compare? I know the gas mileage will be better with the 5.3, what kind of mileage do you get with the 6.0? Rog
I have a 2500 4x4. From first or second hand knowledge some differences are:
-6.0L mileage isn't great, about 13 combined. Seems like 16 combined is typical for 5.3L.
-1/2 ride tends to be floaty on the highway. 3/4 is more traditional truck ride. However some say the extra weight of 3/4 actually makes it ride better. 3/4 handles big bumps with more grace. I find 3/4 ride to be quite good.
-3/4 has higher load height and maybe higher step in height, I'm not sure.
-1/2 with 5.3L is faster off the line but 3/4 is about the same in the quarter mile. 3/4 will out pull the 1/2 with a load I'm sure.
-3/4 comes with wheel flares std.
-3/4 has heavyer duty drive line components, HD transmission, and bigger brakes.
Only way to decide is to drive both and see for yourself.
As I've said the 3/4 has a 2.48 first gear VS 3.06 for the 1/2. Sometimes this can make it seem a little sluggish....but not too bad off the start.
Second is closer...3rd are both 1.0...and 4th is .74 for the 3/4 and .70 for the 1/2. now that little tiny difference makes a BIG difference at highway speeds on how much high end passing power you have. yeah...I raises the RPM's up more...but who cares??...we are young..right? The gears are this way to get the RPM's up higher into the torque range for better towing....but even when empty...it gives a better feeloing of power...in my opinion.
The 3/4 is 585 lbs. heavier...thus rides the road better tires are less likely to spin. I didn't say invincible.....just better.
Hey how come u didnt go tackle the one that ran away??? That would have been hilarious ( u can tell i dont hunt sorry thought id add some humor) Ok question for anyone who knows: Do the 2000 half ton 4x4 Z71 sit higher in the back??? I past one on the expressway this afternoon and it looked like the back of the truck was alot higher than the front. Ive noticed this on a few trucks now. Just curious im sure someone know something. Thanks
They closed the wind noise thread so I will ask the question here. A lot of owners have complained about wind noise coming from the rear windows on their trucks. I was wondering if anyone has installed a set of those fancy louvers over the windows and if that made a difference.
M1685 - You can get a manual trans 1500. I have one. It only comes with the 4.8L engine. Unless you are towing a trailer over 3000lbs the 4.8 has plenty of power.
yowzabike - I've never seen an ext cab manual trans. And I've seen very few std cab manual trans trucks. Most a price leaders - V-6, Manual, Short bed. Not enough bed to be a real truck. What do you need that ext cab for? It turns the truck into a car with a big trunk. Get a real truck!
For $1000 extra you can get an automatic. Salesmen love to sell anything that increases the price/commision. I've even had two salesmen tell you couldn't get a manual trans in a Silverado. That and they weren't available with manual windows. I guess you can tell what they have available for sale.
But, you are right, this truck needs A/C. The cab gets way hot in cool weather. Maybe it is all the glass, and maybe it is the dual cats directly under the cab, but this truck gets hot whenever the weather is over 60.
I was at my local dealer and while looking at the 1500, 4wd, XC trucks, noticed that every truck with factory flares was color matched. Are the factory flares color matched or did my dealer just paint everyone I saw?
Ok heres the scoop: if the exterior color of truck is: red, green, white, blue or black then you get black flares from the factory all other colors pewter and gold for example come color matched. The two tone paint job has the flares that are color matched to the lower color. Tim i am the expert on the wheel flares. Any more flare questions asked me.

While a Camaro can pull a boat and haul some materials.....I still would not buy a car over a truck....as I stated.
99% of people here consider off roading going down 2- tracks.....
..soooo...The camaro can do that as well.
Really bad mud?...hell no
That's what the Silverado is for.
Remember....I'm on the side of the Silverado..I own one!
...But to answer the question.....The Camaro beats the silverado hands down for looks..
AND will do 90% of what MOST people here will use their trucks for.

I would have to experience the 320 horses for a while, then i would probably get tired of it
