topped off my '85 Silverado with some 89 octane for $1.619. And the icing on the cake is that I'm getting about 15.3 mpg. Yes, I'm actually HAPPY about that mpg...for that truck, that's good! :P

I saw 87 octane at another station for around $1.479/gal. Just as a reference point, I still remember the first time I had to fill up my 2000 Intrepid, back in November 1999. 87 was $1.389/gal.

Down to $1.71 in Happy Valley

Paid $1.539 last night at a 7-11 in Phoenix.

Lowest I've paid since Jan 2, 2005. Almost 4 years. And that was $1.519.

    Amazing. Flippin Amazin.

It's down to $1.48 for RUG at Hess.

Feels like somethng is up. The place I usually fill up at is stil at $1.71. Another location, same brand, is $1.69, and another set of convenience stores is at $1.73

Does not look like OPEC cut backs had much influence over the price of oil. It is down $3 today sitting at $40.54.

    C'mon ONE BUCK gas...
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
I'm under $1.50 as of yesterday. Filled for $1.49 and then saw $1.45 today.

If you include the Parkway there's almost a 20 cent difference from the lowest to the highest for regular. The Parkway is only allowed to change prices once a week making those stations very undesirable when prices are dropping but very desirable when they are going up quickly.

We have not gone under $1.50 yet. Some places are selling for $1.51. I filled the wife's Lexus for $1.75 yesterday with Premium. We still have stations selling as high as $2.29 for regular. Diesel is holding a $2.09 at a lot of stations. With about 63 cents in tax we cannot go much lower in CA.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Regular fell a few more cents this week at the majors.

Add 12 cents to bump up to midgrade and another 12 to get to premium.

And diesel was $2.55 at the Chevron where I noted the $1.53 regular.

Making a road trip to Pittsburgh and back today, so I'll have some pricing sightings later in the day!

Saw $1.459 yesterday. Lowest since about January 2004 here.

    Amazing.

I've been checking www.marylandgasprices.com fairly regularly, and it looks like the drop has stalled out to around $1.45/gal for 87. However, with every passing day it seems like more stations are dropping down to the $1.45-$1.55 range.

Still, I'll take it! I still remember the first time I had to fill up my 2000 Intrepid, back in November, 1999. That's when gas was just starting to shoot up in this area. Prior to that, we'd whine if it got above $1.15-$1.20! That first fill-up was $1.389 per gallon. Adjusted for inflation, that would be about $1.71 in 2007. The inflation calculator I used didn't have 2008 numbers yet, but if you figure 4-5%, that would put it up to $1.78-1.80.

So at this point, I figure gasoline is costing me less in real dollars than it was 9 years ago. I can deal with that. :)
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Saw my first under $1.40 today - $1.38 at a Lukoil.

Cheapest actually in town is $1.44 and dropping.

If this keeps up there's probably a real deal to be had on a Fusion hybrid when they come out....

Maybe this is the tree hugger in me coming out, but if the Fusion Hybrid can realistically get 52 mpg in mixed driving, I'd consider one! Even if it would probably never pay for itself with my type of driving.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Don't you have a short commute and short hop driving? You'd do great with a hybrid!

It will be a while before I need another car. I've got three cars that have over 120K each on them and run just fine. No sense getting rid of a basically free car that works. Fourth vehicle is teh van and that still has payments on it.

My commute is 3.5 miles, each way, although starting in the summer I began taking a back way into work that's about 5 miles. I don't know if that's really enough extra to make a difference, but I thought it might help give the cars, especially my old ones, a better run. A little more time to warm up, get the fluids circulating, and battery charged. And most of my driving is pretty local these days. It's fairly rare that I go more than 20 miles from home. I go up to Pennsylvania pretty regularly for car shows, but for some of them, I'm taking one of my old cars up to put in the show, so a new car wouldn't help there.

I imagine the first car that's going to need replacing is my Intrepid. It has about 143,000 miles on it and is running fine. I don't drive it much myself, but have been letting my car-less roommate use it to get to work (about 5 miles away for him), and he's just been paying for gas and kicking in some for maintenance, insurance, etc. But when that car finally goes, if I get a new car, he sure as hell ain't driving it!
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
Good plan - especially the part where if yo buy new he ain't driving it. hey! If you get a new one maybe you can work a deal and let him drive the DeSoto a little if he'll get into operating condition. He may catch on to the trick however....

My Accord is about the age of your Intrepid but with a bit over 160K on it. My wife who is on teh road a lot uses that. Since she put miles on a car and isn't the best about how she treats it (it's also her office...) I figure when that dies I'll just get a more recent equivalent. No sense subjecting a new car to all that unless her company suddenly decides on company cars...

I was able to purchase fuel at my regular place last Thursday for $1.63. Though I could have went another day I figured it was best to do it then since a storm was hitting that night into Friday (we got hammered with snow/freezing rain then deep freeze). I wasn't looking at prices on Friday - trying to stay on the snow/ice-covered roads - but most places today were in the $1.75 ~ $1.79 range (still not complaining as it's better than $4.40!!). I'm figuring the mileage may drop a bit since I have the sand bags and added snow to the bed for more traction.

Depending on my driving this week / next may have one more fill-up before the end of the year.

    Merry Christmas everyone :D

RUG is going for $1.48 at BP stations on Hixson Pike... Anyone know what RUG is in Manassas, VA? I have a road trip this coming weekend to that part of VA to pick my son up for the New Year's holiday.. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year... :)

Is a map of Manassas. You can zoom out on the map and drag the map to see prices along whatever route you wish to inspect. I use our daytongasprices.com and then drag the map along the route we'll travel to see what the reported gas prices are.

At the top of xxxgasprices.com is a box. Type in the letters and a flyout menu shows which areas gas price tables are available in. Manassas is one.

After zooming out a certain amount instead of individual station prices the level of price is indicated by color. I stay zoomed in just enough so I see individual stations. I just checked from I71 Cincinnati to Louisville I65 to Nashville. The lowest price is $1.45 at Flying J near the TN/KY border.

Yesterday I topped off the tank in my girlfriend's Buick LaCrosse from 1/8 tank for $22! Not too long ago, this would've been over $60!

Seems prices have stabilized around here. Sunoco Regular is $1.63. I have seen Ultra for as low as $1.97 at the Sunoco at Welsh and Roosevelt Blvd. in NE Philly.

paid $1.759 for 93 octane at the Shell. I was able to fill my '79 5th Ave up, from sucking fumes to a full tank, for $34.50.

Just for comparison, 5 months ago, when I got back from the Mopar show in Carlisle, I had a $73.91 fill up with that car at $4.319 per gallon...and that was for less gas! 17.1 gallons versus 19.6 today.

    "...Citgo, Riggins, RUG $3.37..."

I bet they'll sell a lot of gas at that price. ;)

Here in the icebox of upstate NY RUG is down to the $1.60s in a few places and premium is below $2.

I can hear the politicians licking their lips trying to figure ways to get it back to $3 with taxes so that we "conserve".

    Phoenix down to $1.35

And the new 1.4 BILLION DOLLAR light rail system just opened. At only 43 million dollars a mile, it was a BARGAIN !

    Bad timing I guess...............

We crept back up to $1.55 around Christmas day.

    Diesel is $2.45.
  • 210delray210delray Member Posts: 4,721
Paid only $1.35 today for WaWa RUG in fezo's neck of the woods (Toms River, NJ). The Shell that I missed was a cent lower. I saw an off-brand in the same area for $1.31. Lukoil (Putin-oil) on the Garden State Parkway was $1.55 -- passed on that. Pittsburgh had $1.79 for BP -- passed also. Did buy in Somerset, PA for $1.67.

Also had topped up in Front Royal VA on Christmas for $1.45 at a Texaco (would have been 5 cents lower per gallon with cash). Saw gas in NYC for "only" $1.83 -- such a deal (passed). Also, as soon as we got off the ferry from Cape May NJ into Lewes, DE today, gas was back up to $1.83.

I now have enough though to get me home to central VA, where it was $1.50 when I left on Christmas Day, so no gas will be bought in DE or MD.

The message I got was to top off where cheap to avoid the high-priced areas.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
You were indeed close by. Should have said hello....

Filled with $1.33 BP just north of Toms River today.

Here in town the best I could do would be $1.39.

Not sure when the raised their prices. I filled my PU on the 18th and the price was $1.57. Today I was going to top off the Sequoia and the lines were around the building. Price was $1.69. Think I will wait a couple weeks till I fill up.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,648
Most stations jumped the price 20 cents to $1.69 on Monday. The PR reason explained by a talking head on TV said it was because of the battle in Gaza and the oil price having gone up on Monday during the day ($2). I suspect it was a chance to raise the price for New Years celebrants and people traveling.

Several stations are still at $1.38 and $1.43 in spotty areas. I refilled my car at Murphy (Walmart) for $1.49 because tank was low after drive from Nashville home.

Yes, we had a nice 2-day drive from NYC to central VA using the Garden State Parkway and side tracking along some of the barrier islands. We watched the sunset at Cape May and then took the ferry to Delaware, where we stayed overnight. Much better than the frenzy called I-95.

BTW, that gas station where I reported $1.83 in Delaware was a ringer. Because it's the first station you find after you leave the ferry, I suppose it takes advantage of people who jumped on the ferry with little gas left. Other stations a little farther on had RUG at $1.49 or so. Maryland's prices (at least near Delaware) were about the same.

I just paid $1.47 here at home -- we don't get those funny spikes like Dayton. :)
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
$1.38 last night in lovely downtown Manahawkin.

That ferry is a great trip. We do it at least once a year even if it's just going over for the day. If you get lucky you can get dolphins following the boat.

You'll never go too far wrong on gas by following the simple rule of if your trip involves New Jersey be sure to fill up before you leave. When I go up to New England I always stop at the last gas in NJ before proceeding. That tank is good to get me to New Hampshire which also has cheap gas.

If you come back up this way at night you can now see Barnegat Lighthouse lit up again. We went to the lighting as did half the county. It's not that big a light but it's still pretty cool that they did it. Replacing the glass surrounding the new light cost more than the light did.

There's been talk of something like that in my area. As an advocate of energy conservation do you think it's worth the cost for your city? How many people will have to ride it for it to break even?

I like the idea of such a system but I have my doubts about the economics of it.
