A bunch of rednecks tried to run me over in 1970 while I was walking down that road in my uniform and toting a duffel bag. They drove up on the side walk...laughing all the way. What a reception for someone who had just spent 12 months in South Vietnam.

Back to gas.....Mr. Patel is charging $1.19 for regular, $1.24 for 89, and $1.34 for 93 premo. Now is a good time to give lower compression ratio car a little "perk" for doing it's job.

Oh BTW, that's in West Georgia...

I think in places like Colorado and Nevada there are trucking costs factored in, or perhaps it's more like "so, where ELSE you gonna buy gas around here?"

I love the long distance diesel tank I put in my car. If I time it right on my trip I can buy 35 gallons of fuel at $1.37 instead of $2.08. The downside is that I'm then haulling 35 gallons of fuel over mountain passes but I guess it is still worth it, no?

sad story, wilcox, and I believe it.

If 91-octane gasoline in Aspen didn't cost more than $2, it wouldn't be Aspen.

Fuel prices in Ann Arbor and Rochester Hills are pretty similar, but Ann Arbor is ringed with expressways, so it's harder to find cheap gasoline than in Rochester Hills, which is further off of the expressway. I mean, don't look for cheap gas in Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham. Between upper-class areas and expressway off-ramps, it's quite easy to spend a lot of money on fuel.

My family in Royal Oak lives real close to a Clark gas station. I need a ghetto cruiser to go there, though.

Gas prices probably went up already, as it is early Friday morning. I'm heading back to Oakland County this weekend, and trying to beat out Camaros and Mustangs on the expressway is never smart for Mr. Wallet.

Makes you wonder about the real cost - snip -

Richard Gonzales California USA (Jun 2002)

Anyone who buys gas/petrol for their cars, homes, business should know that we are indirectly supporting Arafat and the child bombers he recruits to murder children and women. Buying gas from Arab countries who contribute money to radicals such as Arafat and the Taliban must stop. We need to not be so dependent on these countries who we buy oil from. We should only buy oil from countries who are friendly to all and not trying to kill Americans and Israelis. We have to come up with different ways to fuel our cars, homes, etc. Remember, when we fill our cars with gas, we are also guilty of helping hostile nations.

    That's quite true, rfruth.

Least expensive 87-octane this weekend in Rochester Hills, Michigan, was $1.47 per gallon.

on tuesday to Charleston SC and Durham NC. Anyone know the gas prices up in these areas lately? We'll be driving up I-95 through South Florida and Georgia to get there.
TIA for any help with this and y'all have a great 4th!

I buy gas at $1.18 at the Citgo on Cherry Road

Anyone know what the gas prices are in the following areas right now:

    Asheville, NC
    Knoxville, TN
    Chattanooga, TN
    Cookeville, TN
    Atlanta, GA

I have to take a trip to TN this weekend and have a choice of routes. I can either go up north through Knoxville or down south through Atlanta.
  • machiavellimachiavelli Member Posts: 260
Holy Cow! $1.18 -that's at least .10 cents cheaper than I pay, and I thought that was pretty good! It's amazing how wide a range of prices there are nationwide. I think California is closer to $2.00 a gallon.
  • wilcoxwilcox Member Posts: 582
Georgia has the prices that you are accustomed to, and you can go 80mph on I20 or I85 all day....untill you hit Atlanta traffic. If it is a weekend then you'll have no problem. Listen to AM 750 radio while in that state for traffic updates. It has a long range in daytime.

    $1.539 in Bklyn for 87.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
$2.08 for premium in Austin, Nevada.

Okay, as promised, I figured out fuel costs on driving my diesel Benz from San Francisco to Aspen, Colorado, and it came out to exactly $58.18 one way. For some reason, the other way was a few dollars more, about $65 (headwinds going west?). Strategy was to not fill up in the San Francisco area, but wait until I hit Sacramento and then take on a boatload of fuel into the long range tanks. Best one-tankful range was 744 miles. Probably could have hit 775 or 800 but running out of fuel in a diesel in the desert is not fun, even if you have some extra fuel stashed. (hard to prime the injection pump and lines).

    1.549 for Premium
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
Yikes, Shiftright, I thought Chicago was bad. Last night I paid $1.829 for premium. Lowest 87 octane price I've seen recently is about $1.559.
  • sandman46sandman46 Member Posts: 1,798
Drove thru here on thursday and the Shell was at $1.46, what a rip off compared to the rest of what I found in South and North Carolina and Georgia. That was the highest I paid and $1.22 was the lowest. Lots of traffic this weekend though. I-4 going onto I-95 was all stopped and the traffic up to Jacksonville on 95 was a mess! Daytona probaly also had a race this weekend, saw a lot of company trucks leaving the area.

    Typical prices right now:

    1.659-87 octane
    1.759-89 octane
    1.859-93 octane

So yesterday I went to the only 'non-corporate' local gas station (still has '50s neon sign and non-digital, moving numbers, pumps!) and paid $1.729 for 92 octane.

Up a bit this week to $1.339 for 87

Might be interesting if someone would go back through all the posts here and create some graphs of how the prices have fluctuated in different areas over time...

July 20th, 2002 Gas is currently selling for 77.8 cents Cdn. (50.3 cents US) per litre in St. John's, Newfoundland Canada. That translates to the equivalent of $1.90 USD per US gallon.
  • verozahlverozahl Member Posts: 574
Yesterday (Sunday) 87-octane "equilibrium price" in the Ann Arbor, Michigan, area was right around $1.49 per gallon.

Vero's been driving around a lot recently, so that $1.50 rate... ouch.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
New rates today in my town in Marin County is $1.93 for premium, diesel at $1.49, which isn't too bad.

Lowest diesel price I saw lately was $1.09 in Tulsa OK, but from California to Colorado I could do no better than $1.33.

Rode my bike to work today. Ten miles RT---got so hungry I stopped for breakfast, which was $6.50, so that's .65 cents a mile. Driving is definitely cheaper.
  • mykemmykem Member Posts: 203
    $1.09 for 87 and $1.19 for 92.

All taxes included. All 14 cents of them.

Most Everywhere, On St Croix, USVI. Some places were a nickel cheaper on each.

I'm moving to PA or somewhere soon, if only to save a buncha money on gas. Admittedly, this is one of the most expensive gas stations on the north side (BP Amoco at Ashland/Fullerton):

    $1.849 (87 octane)
    $1.949 (89 octane)
    $1.999 (93 octane)
  • iluvmysephia1iluvmysephia1 Member Posts: 7,709
for $1.35/gallon. That's down from about $1.45/gallon the past week or so. This is in western Washington state.

Our local Citco is still $1.41 for 87 octane. But not far away, I've seen as high as $1.51 at a Shell station. Crazy!

Ann Arbor, about $1.50 any dang say of the week. Rochester Hills, about $1.40 to $1.45. About $1.40 in Plymouth/Canton/Westland.

State College, PA... we've been pretty steady at $1.359 for 87 for quite a while until yesterday. Dropped to $1.299

Altoona is usually lower by about 10 cents, so I'm assuming that they're under $1.20, but I'll have to wait for the wife to report on that!

If was at Penn State, I would drive down to Altoona to change my scenery.

Price for 87-octane yesterday in Ann Arbor on Stadium Drive yesterday was down to about $1.40 per gallon. You can bet that the northeast side of town is five or ten cents higher than that-!
  • PF_FlyerPF_Flyer Member Posts: 9,372
It's not QUITE worth the trip for the price difference... but the wife works in Altoona so about half of our fuel comes at lower prices...
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
Yesterday I paid $1.919 for 93 octane at a Shell on the north side (corner of Addison & Ashland, c'mon up and see us sometime).

Since I am currently driving a fifteen year-old car with a carburator, I figure the car is on 'borrowed time' to some extent. Since I don't want to have the carb rebuilt, I've been using higher grade gas most of the time. It actually does seem to make a difference in this car.

I would prefer to spend less than $1.919 a gallon, but I was 'on fumes', so...

    $1.359 84

Cheboygan gas is cheaper than Petoskey, Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, etc. in summer, pass it on. I might refuel in Cheboygan tomorrow before I head back down to Ann Arbor. Whereas $1.55 per gallon 87-octane is normal in the U.P., or $1.50 elsewhere in northern Michigan, all of Cheboygan was selling around $1.42 for the same gallon. Great deal, I tell ya.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I was quite pleased to pay:

$1.639 for 93 octane at an indy station, where regular (87 octane) was $1.519, recently (station: SMITH on Lawrence just west of Damen), particularly because all of the BP/Amocos are selling gas at 1.799/1.899/1.999 (there's a reason BP's corporate color includes GREEN, yo?).

...nothing changes. Our gas is still outrageous in comparison to almost everywhere else. I was quite happy to pay $1.649 for 92 octane yesterday, especially since I saw a price of $1.969 for 93 octane at a BP/Amoco later that night (Chicago, north side).

in the beautiful Skagit Valley of Washington state(located about 65 miles north of Seattle). Two days earlier I paid $.07 a gallon less. Why it jumped up in that short period of time I can't tell you.
