God, I hate those new Bud commercials.

See, Brutus... I'm not talking about super duties and it's your fault.

I think today is my build date.
  • canoescanoes Member Posts: 20
Called the customer line today and got build week of -2/21- 2/25 on order 12/18 for CC V10 4x4. Seems they are really churning them out! The guy was very insistent that I call my dealer for any other followup. I told him about my salesman was having internet troubles. He said that 'Yeah Ford was working on that and hoped to have the new software working soon'. Just wondered if all the phone calls that they are getting now instead of our 'computer checking' is getting to them! this guy really did not want to be bothered again!
But I have a build date.......
  • bowhuntwibowhuntwi Member Posts: 262
They should be happy we are using that line, they put it there for us to use.
(canoes) It's not fair, you ordered 12/18, and you got a build date a week later then myself...( I ordered 09/27/99) You haven't waited long enough, but you probably just made the deadline for a 00, otherwise you did be waiting for the 01.
  • lewaclewac Member Posts: 151
Jraske... please don't tell me that! $6 a month? do you think these prices are negotiable? you'd think that everyone's on the same page over there.

dwucher... I'd read somewhere that the psd is building rapidly (compared to v10)... but 3 weeks is incredible.

Brutus... crazyElivis' always getting someone into a debate. but he does have some good points to ponder. I've been out with the beast burning up some fuel on a trip to Orlando... some 500 miles or so. we've gotten 16.9mpg on the 1st tank (mostly hwy). 15 mpg on a 50/50 mix. those #'s are about what I expected.
  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
We have a guy on WSB radio in Atlanta who takes consumer complaints and he calls that kind of phone guy "Customer No-service." Next thing you know, they'll shut this one down. They don't seem to be able to handle market success.

All they need to do is automate the process and have a web based tracking system a la the railroads so none of the people have to bother handling the dirty, profit offering customers.

Just let us register and log on and enter a vehicle id number. FedEx, UPS, and every other company on the planet that ships can handle customer based interface. How about dear old FoMoCo? (Now there's an idea!)

Henry said "Any color you want so long as it's black."

Sorry for the outburst, but poor customer service at any point just grinds my gears.

I talked to a very nice girl named Deborah the other day. Maybe that was before the deluge or maybe your guy had a bad day.

Got the beast on 2/02/00 8weeks from order. Just put a quick 282 miles to test it. Went over 2 pass that peak a 7000 ft we went down a very muddy and snow packed road, using and testing 4hi and 4lw. returned back to SLC filled up and used 17.5 gals. Not bad for a 5.4 auto 4.10ls cc f250. If this keeps up i might have to keep it!! Only thing I see as a problem is the front bumper stores alot of mud behind it, It takes a good washing to get it out.

i have learned much from all of your thoughtful questions and answers - thank you. having the basic idea of what i wanted, and with the timing being right, i called up my local dealer today (who is also my neighbor) and said "go". here is the part with the idea, especially for lewac: dealer confirms allotment problems, but says he has extra excursions, which are easy to do a dealer-trade with. we sit down at ford computer, put in the basic requirements of what i want, and bingo, out comes 20 trucks all reasonbly close to what i want.

i pick out my top 5, and tomorrow a.m., one of the sales guys will call the dealers and maybe (i'll believe it when i see it) i'll get my truck in a few days. i still get to pay invoice, and as long as i don't mind having my second choice in color, i avoid the problems which you have so wonderfully educated me on these last couple of days.

for those of you who have been waiting too long, there is nothing that would prevent you asking you dealer to do the same for you. and lewac, you ought to demand that your dealer do it tomorrow.

again, you are all a very considerate group and i thank you for the education. if you're interested, i'll keep you posted on my attempted shortcut.

lastly, i'm looking to get a 00,350,cc,srw,sb,psd. i have an '86 of near the same config, but it's been reduced to being my snow-plow and hunting truck.

I AM NEW OWNER 00 SD SC SWB 4X4 5.4 AUTO 4.10 OFF ROAD PACKAGE .HAVE 1100 MILES ON IT AND RETUNED IT TODAY FOR SOME SERVICE WORK .BRAKES ARE SOFT WHEN FIRST PRESSED .BUT IF PUMPED ONCE COME UP TO PROPER PEDAL.I WAS TOLD THERE IS A BULLETIN THAT SAYS TO DEPRESS PEDAL ONE TIME BEFORE STARTING VEHICLE AND THIS WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM.JUST WONDERING IF ANY ONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM,OR IF THERE IS SUCH A BULLETIN.
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
Yep, dealer trades can really work well! Usually the SD is more valuable than most vehicles so they don't get traded often.. However in your case with the dealer offering up an Excursion, your chances seem pretty good!

    Good luck.

I Posted this info a few weeks ago... (#366) Its an article I got from my company web page. I guess Ford may be watching us after all.

Ford is hiring UPS to track vehicles in transit from factories to dealers

By Fara Warner and Rick Brooks
    THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

DETROIT, Feb. 2 - Ford Motor Co. is expected to announce Wednesday that it is tapping United Parcel Service Inc. to track millions of vehicles as they make their way from factories to dealerships in hopes of alleviating longtime distribution problems.

..."for those of you who have been waiting too long, there is nothing that would prevent you asking you dealer to do the same for you."

Other than I don't want to settle for my second (or third) choice on anything on this truck :)

I'd rather wait and get the truck *I* want (especially at this price). :):)

00 Crew Cab w/ V-10, 3.73ls axle 4x4. Mileage after 2800 miles averages 12.2. Very little stop-and-go. Not bad...a little less than I hoped for.
I discovered a minor rock ding along the wheel well and addressed it with rubbing compound. Now I've got a dollar sized dull spot. This is clearcoat paint (red) and a result I'm unaccustomed to. Will a cleaner/wax bring back the shine? What can I do?
  • wildside1wildside1 Member Posts: 77
Just about like the flu .... now I've got it ... I remember several other folks talking about this problem some time back ..... some kind of rubber bushing squeek when you hit a little bump.

I remember someone having a tech bulletin or service message number and posting it on this site but I can't find it. I have tried to look thru the posts of the third and fourth iteration of the super duty stuff and can't find anything. I would sure appreciate it if anyone could get that number to me along with information about what Ford did to alleviate the problem and if that worked for them. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know what the "high altitude principal
use" package is ? I have a chance to buy a 2000 sd
    5.4l sc 4x4 5sp from a dealer in Colorado. I live
in South Texas. Would this truck run ok Here?
  • bowhuntwibowhuntwi Member Posts: 262
You can probably do a deal on an Excursion, but I wouldn't recommend letting your 00 CC order go, the dealer would turn around and sell it for a couple grand more then what you ordered it for, then he would come back and say the one they had found for you was sold by mistake.........then your back at square one waiting again. The dealer where I ordered mine had 2 sitting on the lot last time I was in, 1 a really nice Lariat PSD dually, guy ordered and then couldn't get financing..that went in a couple of days, then there was a plain jane....am radio, stick,PSD,no carpet,bench,4wd, sat there all summer...that was gone too. Any CC that isn't nailed down is sold on most dealer lots. Mine goes in production next week, I waited this long, I can wait a few more weeks, it's been 4 months 15 days, just 50 days late of the promised date so far. I thought of canceling and going somewhere else, but when I asked other dealers they were saying 5 to 6 months.......and when I looked at the dealers' door where you could see in the shadows, that there was a hundred blood thirsty guys wanting you to cancel, so they could have your order. I decided to sit tight and wait.
  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
I guess I missed that post. Thanks for the pointer.

bowhuntwi: You're right on about the CC's moving on through. I have a friend whose '99 CC took 4 months to get from the same dealer I'm waiting on.
It's now been 3.5 months on mine. This is my build week-talk about tense! ...couldn't pull a needle... with a SuperDuty. :)

tmats1: I made the same mistake on my F150 Red Clearcoat on the door. Abrasive polishes will do that, too. What we did was to scratch the clear topcoat without getting down to the red (I think). I hope someone has a fix. Make sure you buy the special liquid wax designed for clearcoat finishes in the future. It'll say on the label.

I do have some great points....wife says that the big one is on the top of my head!!
Gotta great story to tell you all.....unbelievable story is more like it....
My friend down the street wants a SD...but wants to test drive everything else first....Chevy tested already...he hated it....I took him...in my truck...to the Dodge dealer yesterday....The sales guy let us take a Big Dodge V10 out for a drive alone......Well we got about 500 feet out of the dealership drive and the think started smoking from the engine BIG TIME...We ran back and told someone and by the time we all got back out there the thing had fire coming out of the engine compartment and into the CAB!!!! They finally put it out when the fire dept. got there...about 10 mins later....but the truck was a total loss....
I am freaking out because somehow I know we are going to get in trouble somehow....but we didn't...As we got into my truck another salesman came over to ask if we were OK....and I said "yes...now that I'm back in a Ford"!!!
  • bessbess Member Posts: 972
A most awsome adventure.. I would assume that your friend is working up a SuperDuty order by now.. I wonder how many other perspective buyers at the Dodge dealership had 2nd thoughts after seeing that ordeal..
  • pistoleropistolero Member Posts: 52
Did you make sure the plastic shipping wedges were taken out of your front springs when you picked it up? I went and got mine last Friday, and sure as heck they were still installed in mine. If you didn't know what they were they're hard to see since they're black and held in with electrical tape. They're in the front half installed from the outside, about 8 inches long, and have discard written on them in raised letters. There was something in here about bushings awhile back, I'm not sure when.
  • shotgun1shotgun1 Member Posts: 57
Did the same to mine. Asked a bosy shop guy and he said to use a non abrasive polishing compund like liquid ebony to remove the scratches I put in the clearcoat. I went to the auto parts store and after looking at all the non abrasive polishes/scratch removers, I kind of flipped a coin and tried one. Worked great! rewaxed when I was finished, and now use the stuff for all surface scratches. Just remember, make sure it says "safe for clear coat" Put a little on your finger. If you can feel the "grit", it's too abrasive.

Was told by dealer today that my baby was next on the schedule list. This week or next. That would put it at ordered 01/10/00, scheduled 4 weeks later. We will see. 250 sd cc v.10 5spd. 4.30ls harvest gold xlt.

Just talked to my salesman at Waikem Ford in Ohio. Said my 00 sd should be there tomorrow. He recieved the invoice yesturday.

So I hope the 7 and a half month wait is well worth it. Maybe they will give a better deal.
  • dwucherdwucher Member Posts: 79
P.S. You guys/gals have gotten me all worked up over this darn thing. Usually I try to get what I want right away. I can't beleive that I could wait 3 months or longer for a truck. Leaving Toyota forever. I hope my dad was right, Ford all the way. Congrats Lewac! Thanks for all of the info.
  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
KTP must be building nothing but CC's at the moment. Four weeks from order to build, awesome.
  • mainecowgirlmainecowgirl Member Posts: 103
As the price of diesel fuel hit $1.99/gal. in my town today, I thought that (at least for now) I made the right choice of V-10 over PSD. I think the MPG value must be evening out at $.60 a gallon over regular gas. Now if it could only get built. Looks like CC are the faster build now over SC. Oh well. I have only waited just under three weeks...
  • jeffijeffi Member Posts: 11
Called the customer line yesterday and they said my cc would arrive the week of Feb. 14th.

My wife was driving by the dealership today and saw my truck on the carrier. She called me on her cell phone to tell me. I got a call from my salesmen about an hour later. IT HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!

Will pick it up 10:00 A.M. on Wed. Ordered on Sept. 3rd. I am trading in a 99 SC LB V-8 4:10.

It has 10,000 more miles on it than it had when I made the deal ( 29,980 ). Sure hope that want be a problem.

When I ordered my truck I mentioned that I wanted to use Ford Credit to finance the truck. The dealer has suggested that I wait until the truck arrives before determining the actual interest rate. I know there are many factors that determine the interest rate. What I am wondering what type of interest rate can one expect from Ford credit for their popular Super Duty Trucks? I went through PeopleFirst.com and they gave me a 60 month loan at 7.6%. (I was really impressed with PeopleFirst.com. They made it simple to get a loan and no additional fees.) Can I expect Ford Credit to beat that rate?

F250 Y2K CC PSD 4WD SB - ordered 12/8 and should arrive any day....

I called the CAC today. They weren't any more helpful than the old days of the VOPC. It was alot easier listening to Telephone Annie than asking questions of a live Ford human. My dealer says that my truck has been built, but the CAC says it is scheduled for next week. The live Ford human would give me the VIN, she didn't even know what scheduled meant. I am not sure the CAC has the latest information. Does anyone know if the CAC has up-to-date information? (The live human Chelsea got annoyed when I asked more than one question. I guess one question is your limit at the CAC.)

For those future buyers, posting the order status on the internet will be great for buyers, dealers and Ford.

I've been reading this townhall since late Nov. and have enjoyed the people and content of the postings. Are any superduties built in Mexico?
  • koakeykoakey Member Posts: 109
duckfoot1, yes, Super Duties are now being built in Mexico as well as KTP. It looks like they are bound primarily for the states that boundary Mexico. As I recall, they started up SD 250/350 assembly after the first of the year.

If your VIN starts with 1, your vehicle was built in the US (and for SDs that would be KTP). If your VIN starts with 3, your vehicle was built in Mexico. Or, I should say, 'is/was' since you can get the VIN before the vehicle is assembled ;)
  • wildside1wildside1 Member Posts: 77
Thanks for your reply. I was aware of the shipping wedges between the front leaf springs and they were taken out upon arrival at the dealer.

This is a noise that a couple others have complained about with their Super Duty 4x4 front drivers side suspension. I believe at least two folks had their dealer replace a rubber bushing or something in the front suspension. There wasn't a recall ..... only some kind of maintenance alert to the service areas of the dealers. I guess I'll just have to take it to my dealer. I was just looking for the added info in case my dealer didn't get the word yet .... you know how that goes ...
    Happy Motoring ...
  • crazyelviscrazyelvis Member Posts: 216
The finance mngr. at the dealership may be able to beat or meet the 7.6 rate....but be carefull....The finance guy can recoup some of the revenue lost when you get the truck at near invoice....Say he gets bank xyz to come in at 7% and he has you sign for 7.5% not knowing that he actually got a 7% rate....he gets to pocket that extra % for the dealership....these guys are shifty!!!! But it is worth a try..........my 2.075 cents worth anyway......

A friend of mine works in the Fleet Dept at Courtesy Ford in Denver, and he said Ford and his dealership take the surveys very seriously. They share the results with the specific sales person, and the ratings etc. are very important! Also the surveys are not random, Ford sends one to each buyer.

    Elvis,
You have more fun than the law allows!! That Dodge truck episode was a classic!!
  • bowhuntwibowhuntwi Member Posts: 262
Go to the Ford Motor Company website, then to Ford Credit, I had a Car.Finance rate of 7.3% for 5 years, Ford met that, plus they said it was good until I took delivery of my truck, CarFinance was only good for 60 days and I had to extend it once and I tried a second time, they told me to reapply, so I went to Ford and they matched it. You might be able to get better, on the ford credit site they ask what interest rate you want, like a dummy i put in what i had for carfinance, I should of put lower in.and see if they would of approved that. I tried to go back and do it, but ford told me to reapply, but I thought i would leave well enough alone.
  • BrutusBrutus Member Posts: 1,113
My truck actually has a sticker on the windshield that says it was built in Kentucky. I wasn't aware that they had another factory building Superduties. I'd consider that to be good news since it can only help alleviate some of the delays. As far as the debate over factories in Mexico, I'd say lets not even go there or we'll get way side-tracked. I think Edmunds has a news and views type townhall area where they discuss unions, etc. My 92 F-250HD was built in Canada.

I crunched some numbers using the assumption that two similiarly equiped V-10 and a PSD trucks would make a 700 mile trip. With a 4mpg difference in mpg, the breakeven point for fuel cost would be if diesel was $.35 per gallon more. Anything more than that and the diesel would actually incur higher fuel cost than the V-10 for the trip. The lowest I have heard of diesel recently anywhere is $.20 higher. Assuming a $.20 difference, the V-10 will cost about $5 more in fuel.

Most of us have always said that people should not make a decision on diesel vs gas for economic reasons. It should come down to preference and your intended use. Future fuel costs can be volatile. When I drove up from Dallas to Anchorage in January 1999, diesel costs were actually lower than 87 octane in many places.

lewac, just to make sure there is no confusion, the little [non-permissible content removed] for tat wasn't with crazyelvis. He's a great contributor to the site. Who can beat the Dodge fire story? As far as the sense of humor, mine is pretty dry. I spent eight years in Florida, so I know how that humidity and flat land can warp the brain. :)

I'm new to this: A couple of weeks ago I ordered a 00 250 SD XLT CC V-10 3.73 Oxford White for towing my 2 place snowmobile trailer! ( hehe )- What is VOPC? Could someone post the phone number? I know I'm a long way out from delivery, but if there's someone to bug about it, I want to! Also, I have a question: Is 4 wheel ABS standard on XLT and Lariat or just Lariat? My brochure says Lariat only, but Fords web site and the dealers book says it's standard on XLT also.
  • dwucherdwucher Member Posts: 79
The VOPC is the Ford dealers automated phone system that lets them track the status of your truck. The steps to using this was posted on ford-diesel.com, but Ford has clamped down on the web site, and they have removed the info. We are not supposed to be using the line. The 4 wheel ABS is an option on the XLT, they come standard with only rear wheel ABS. The Lariat has standard 4 wheel ABS. For the xlt the 4 wheel ABS is a 319.00 dollar invoice price option.

Hey Hey. Here I am sitting on my thumbs waiting on a 2/21 delivery date, and today I found out my truck has been built and shipped already.

Regarding the finance charge question... I got 7.5 thru the dealer from FoMoCredit. Banks and other undesireables wanted 7.9 and up, and their rates weren't good for very long. The Ford APR is good until I get the truck.

Anybody driven the ALCAN lately? Still alot of construction around Beaver Creek?

  • lilelmolilelmo Member Posts: 144
I'm glad to hear about trucks moving AHEAD of schedule for a change. The fleet guy at my dealer told me last week that my build week of 2/7 should result in arrival of the unit the first week of March, maybe the last week of Feb. but I'm checking with him tomorrow.

We get ours by truck, so maybe if the weather holds... and the UAW continues build like they're on speed... naw, I'll believe it when I see it after 3.5 months.

I last drove the Alcan in early January 1999. It was -38 going through Beaver Creek. No construction anywhere on the Alcan that time of year. I'm not sure when they start gearing up for construction, probably some time in March, although it may still be a little early. The worst stretches of road I remember were around Glenallen and Summit, which won't impact you since you are headed northwest at Tok.

When are you heading down? We hit -20 about an hour north of Prince George and didn't get above that until we got past Glenallen. It was actually close to 40 in town, so we had a 60+ degree swing in temp that day.

I took the Hudson Hope Loop bypass of Dawson Creek since I had never been that way before. I saw deer standing next to cattle eating from hay bales. If you take that route, be advised that there is one stretch with a 10% grade up and down.

Whether you take that route or not, I think you will be very impressed with the engine braking of the V-10. I had my Bigfoot camper on and the truck never tried to push going down hills. Since it was winter, I drove in 4wd with OD locked out much of the time, and I was doing some periodic shifting of my own down into second (auto trans). A long road trip with the camper on was a great way to get a good feel for how the truck/camper combo.

The two cities with the best accomodations on the hwy were Fort Nelson and Whitehorse. One of the new hotels in Ft. Nelson has a surprisingly big sports bar to grab a cold one after a long days drive. If the weather cooperates, Fort Nelson to Whitehorse can be done in a full days drive, as can Whitehorse to Fairbanks. If you can time your trip right, Whitehorse and Fort Nelson are the two best places to hit. Lodging is a little tougher to find in between during the winter, but it's there.

Keep in mind that, although there are plenty of gas stations along the route, they often operate on reduced hours during the winter. If you plan to drive late into the evening or overnight, make sure to top off the tanks earlier in the evening just in case.

I picked up my CC Super Duty today. I got my financing at 7.1% from local credit union.

My salesman told me to drop off my survey to him and he would see to it that I get $10.00 off my first oil change. I thought that was a little strange.

I took my truck to get the fifth wheel hitch installed today. Fri. will get the Pace Edwards roll top cover installed.

So I'll be "Ready for the weekend".
  • mainecowgirlmainecowgirl Member Posts: 103
Thanks for the math. I know everything changes as fast as the weather, but it's always nice to justify my decision of V-10 over PSD every once in awhile. I am sure by the time I take delivery the prices will be the other way around.

With all the talk of vanity plates I thought for a minute about putting HORSPWR on my license to cover the V-10 and the horses in my life...I, however, need to register my truck with a commercial plate because of the combined weight of my truck and trailer (it is a very gray area here in Maine, but more and more horse haulers, private or not, who have regular plates are getting nailed by the state police...RV haulers seem to be excluded for some reason.) Anyway, you can get a commercial vanity plate if the GVW of the truck is under a certain weight. I have been looking for that number in my Ford info and can't find it. Does anyone know the GVW of a 00 250 SC SB V-10 4X4 auto 4.3LS? Thanks
  • dwucherdwucher Member Posts: 79
The GVWR in my Ford info says 250 4x2/4x4 SRW is 8800 lbs. 350 is 9900 lbs. 00 250 cc sb v-10 4x4 5spd 4.3ls harvest gold xlt.

Thanks for the number. I guess there's no vanity plate in my future. Oh well. Anonymous is good too.
