filter they use. I would like to think that it would be original OEM parts but have found out otherwise. Of the people that have posted similar problem, they began by changing to the AC Delco PF59 filter. Not sure if for all but for some, the startup knocking disappeared. Had to do with the anti drain back valve in the filter. I use the AC Delco filter and have never experienced knocking on start up.

Obyone: Also experienced engine noise not long after purchasing truck. Bought with 8695 miles. Seem to start noticing noise right after oil change. Going to try AC Delco PF59 filter. I use castrol 10w-40 oil. Will let you know. Let me know if yours is still knocking.

Is the 10-40w what your owner's manual recommend? I thought most late models were 10-30w. Don't know how sensitive engine is but 10-40w might be a little too thick...especially on cold startup. Maybe 5-30w?

In quest for a new truck I was using the specifications on this site to check out front and rear legroom on several model trucks. Rear legroom is very important in the next truck. I currently have a 1993 GMC Sierra (before the third door).

According to the info on this site, the current C/K has more front and rear legroom than the new Sierra or Silverado. (34.8 C/K vs 33.7 Silverado)

Am I missing something? Does anyone know how this is measured? The specs also show that the Explorer Sport Track @37.8 and the Dodge Dakota QC @36 have more room than the Silverado. I find this hard to believe from looking at them.

on the sport track or dakota....what a joke...

Hi everybody. I'm new to this site, but have been reading a lot over the last few months. I'm planning to buy a new truck soon, and could use your help. I plan to go to the dealer with a check in hand; will this help in negotiating? One local dealer has a 2000 Silverado "DEMO": LS, LOADED (power bucket seats, off-road pkg, trailer pkg., two-tone, etc.etc.). It has 3700 mi. Is there any way to run the VIN to see if this is one of the problem trucks I have read so much about? The MSRP is 32,033 and it is advertised in a local paper for 26,987. I'm sure I could get it for less, but how much? I'm not totally sold on a Chevy; drove an F150 yesterday. Didn't like it. A Superduty would be nice, but too expensive and hard on gas. ($1.75/gal for premium here). Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

32,000 is far to much to pay for any truck with any miles on it. Once you decide what you want you would be well adviced to get a quote through CARBARGINS which is a not for profit orginzazion
gets bids from 5 dealers in your area. This service costs about $165, but has saved people I know as much as $13,000. They give you a 30 page report on everything that Car Dealer's kill you on. During a comparison in Ten different cities they lost in only one routinely saving the customers more than three to four times more than Edmunds among others. You can go to their website at www.carbargins.com

That address I wrote in actually is out of date what you need to go to in www.checkbook.org

The 3/4 ton rear was installed on 1/2 ton K1500's with the F44 heavy duty chassis equipment option. It included a 3/4 ton rear w/out the full floating hubs, an extra leaf on the springs (for a total of 5)which raised the GVW to 6600 lbs..
I have a 97 with this option, and couldn't get any other answers from the dealer about it, though I was told that the frame(?) was possibly from a diesel p'up. Hope that helps.

Purchased 4X4 Silverado 14 days ago, traded a Dodge Ram, noticed on dry pavement with just a slight pressure on the brakes that the ABS brakes immidiatly engage, not driving at any high speed. Is this normal has anybody else experienced this? Should I contact the Dealer I only have 560 miles on this Truck. Walter

does it really matter if a vehicle uses a quart of oil between changes?? even if you have to add a quart between changes (3k-4k mi) at 1.50 a qt it only adds to 15.oo for every 30k mi. idont think its worth getting rid of the vehicle

I would like feedback on the new Chevy Silverado K1500 extend cab 327 vortec. Good bad or otherwise. I had heard somthing about paint pealing? The truck was also sold with Firestone Wilderness AT tires... with all the blow outs do we know which are the bad ones? Just looking for a little insight.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Yep. on the older C/K's there were some paint peeling...long time agoooo...

No one knows on the Firestone's except Bridegestone/Firestone and they are not talking. My opinion, go back to dealer and tell him you want to swap out for another tire. I did and paid the difference for Michelins and peace of mind...
    good luck!!

I just heard in the past couple days a short piece on Sears discontinuing sales of some series of Firestone tires. I think it was about the tread coming loose resulting in injury accidents. Sears was going to wait to see what Firestone was going to do.

Sounds like some folks aren't liking their "stones" as much.

From MSN.COM home page news blurbs.

THE COMPANY said it planned a Wednesday news conference "regarding radial ATX, ATX II, and Wilderness AT tires" — mostly found on Ford Explorers — sources said Bridgestone/Firestone will also announce a recall on tires for other sport utility vehicles and pickups, mostly in warmer southern states, made by several different automakers

GM STATEMENT REGARDING FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRES
    ON GM SOME VEHICLES

The following is GM's statement from Brook
Lindbert, director of GM tire and wheel systems,
regarding Firestone Wilderness tires found on some
    GM vehicles:

The safety of our customers is an overriding
priority for GM and we understand that many of them
are concerned by recent news reports
regarding Firestone Wilderness tires that were
provided as original equipment on more than 500,000
    GM vehicles including:

    - Some 1999 and 2000 model year Chevrolet
Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks

    - Some 2000 model year Chevrolet Tahoe and
Suburban, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL sport utility
    vehicles

    - Some 2001 model year Pontiac Aztek sport
    recreational vehicles

The Wilderness tires on GM vehicles are different
than those found on other manufacturers' vehicles
because they were engineered and tuned to meet GM's
specific and unique performance requirements. The
real-world performance of the Wilderness tires on
GM vehicles has been excellent and we are aware of
no incidents reported to us involving durability or
    tread separation.

Any GM customers with Firestone Wilderness tires
on their vehicles can schedule an appointment with
their GM dealer or a company-owned Firestone Tire
and Service Center for a free inspection of their
    tires.

GM specs them to make 'em cheaper...not better...what a crock...I dumped mine in a heartbeat...
  • RoclesRocles Member Posts: 982
Specifically made for GM only?? I can interpret that statement as this: Crap. There is no difference for the assemblers and whoever buys that bunk deserves those tires. When I bought my 98 F-150, I got rid of the Firestones after 5 thousand miles. (got 150 bucks for five from one of my desperate employees--it wasn't at though)

    lest2,
Don't buy the rental. They are to normal cars in life as a dog is to human years. 20 thousand on a rental is probably equal to 90 on a privately-owned truck. Just think of the abuse....
