FWIW, the 2 ways I most love to show off my voice recognition is

    1. to have the radio going, wait for a commercial, and then say "CD play disc 4 track 7"

    2. ask my passenger if they're warm/cold, and then say "Passenger temperature, ______ degrees" :shades:

It never ceases to impresses, although when I say "72 degrees" and it hears it as "85 degrees," they are slightly less impressed!!!

My favorite is "find nearest _______ restaurant," and dial the restaurant's phone using the automated nav/blue tooth functions to reserve a seat and map out a route. Its like killing 5 birds with 1 stone. :)

I like "What time is it?".
There's a few of those question commands, where the system responds back with an answer.

i have an 07 TLS. my navi suddenly shows the car about 200-500 feet straight behind where it really is. anyone heard of this or a home fix? i have tried the adjustment under setup, fixes it right up and while watching the car falls right back. tips?
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
If the problem persists, bring it back to the dealer. The navi manual does not recommend that you adjust the system's setup, which, should have been properly calibrated by the dealer before delivery.

I have a question. The 06 Nav screen interface looks very different the 07 one. If I purchase an 07 DVD and put it in the car, will it upgrade the screen interface also or just the map data?
I like the 07 screen better than the 06 one, but if a new DVD won't do anything about that, I won't buy one.
    Thanks

Does anybody know how to get it to tell you the exterior temperature from a voice command?

The only thing I can say about my 2007 TL Type-S' navigation system is awesome. The system pointed out every turns and exits along the route on my trip from Chicago to Canada. While in Canada, I search and enter all the attractions and places I want to go in Great Ontario Area (GOA) and let the navigation system handle the rest. It is very fun and easy to drive my TL around with the navigation system because its great accuracy. Thumbs up for the Navigation System.

I have a 05 TL/Nav. I recently got a offer from Acura to upgrade to an new disk for $180. Are there many upgrades in the new disk? Is it worth spending the money? Any thoughts??
  • phenixdragonphenixdragon Member Posts: 1
I just bought an 05 TL that didn't have the Navi. I found someone selling the dash unit part pretty cheaply with climate controls and all. But what I am wondering, what exactly would I need to put in the stock TL Navi? Such as what wiring harnesses do I need? Do I need a new antenna? If someone had a list or could come up with one that would be great.

    Thanks!

I own an '05 TL and recently had to take it in for service and was given an '06 MDX loaner car. I had to use the nav and was surprised to learn that the voice guidance actually pronounced the name of the major streets.

Is this because of the new software (06/07)? or is it only for the MDX nav? I wouldn't mind upgrading as I thought the feature was useful. Many thanks.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
I once asked for someone on here who had a TL with navi if they could use my 06 MDX software, to get these features, as well as the Zagat surveys, and the service folks told me it would not work. :(

The updates will update the maps and information, but don't seem to provide new functionality.

Just today I said the same exact problem. I was on the GW Parkway right off of Key bridge, took the Route 66 exit (trying to go 66 West) and it took me back into DC to do a U-Turn. Also, it doesn't recognize Rock Creek Parkway at all and where Route 5 meets 495, it doesn't even think the 495 exit exists. I don't know where to report these errors either. Maybe Alpine? I have the '05TL with the old map.

I have a '00 TL and before a trip to Houston from Ohio, I bought the new DVD. On the way, it actually locked up twice, told me to turn several times when I knew it was wrong (when on the outerbelt, I know better than turn on a surface street) and when we arrived in Spring, TX, our friends had lived in a high rent area for 4 years and not one street was on the map. It also dod not have a 50 year old freeway just north of Spring on the database.
I wrote Alpine and told them about it and they said I only had two weeks to return it after purchasing and it had to be in the original package.
I contacted the BBB in their city and soon had a letter saying I could return it for a refund anytime.
I was not happy with Acura. It took 4 hours for Acura to figure out how to reprogram the old DVD to make it work.
Alpine does not care about your missing streets.

"I had to use the [MDX] nav and was surprised to learn that the voice guidance actually pronounced the name of the major streets."

Not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you're surprised about, but my '04 TL does that, too. Not just major highways, but major roads, too.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
Really? I cannot recall ever hearing the navi announcing names or hwys, streets or roads, and I have an 06. :confuse: Must be early senility or alzheimer
  • taxesquiretaxesquire Member Posts: 681
Yup - it's sorta got 2 voices. The regular voice that pronounces major roads, like interstates, and then weird computerized voice that announces major non-interstate roads. By me in Tampa, Florida, the only 1 I specifically recall it announcing is "Dale Mabry," a major 4-5 lane road with lights.
  • bejocundbejocund Member Posts: 12
Is it me or does the Navi sometimes not tell you if the route at the exit is N/W/S/East ?

Also, how do we make a request that Alpine/Acura use Yahoo or Google maps? The current map looks like a 6th grader drew it.

I noticed several GPS systems (including Internet mappers) could not locate my home on a five year old street. It turns out there are two major companies that supply the data to GPS manufactures. In Acura's case it is Navtec through Alpine. You can report wrong locations, directions, landmarks etc. at this site:

    http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/

It is relatively simple. Of course it could take months before Alpine puts out a new DVD w/ this updated info. It will also show you when you enter in the address if they have the correct location now (it just hasn't been passed down stream).

The other major provider is Teleatlas. You can report problems to them at:

    http://mapfeedback.teleatlas.com/index.htm

Interestingly, teleatlas had my location correct (well w/in 50 feet).

So if you have a problem you should check both places because a friend maybe trying to get to your home using Tom Tom which uses TeleaAtlas - particularly if you live on a new street/development etc.

When I first start my 05 TL, I get the standand warning screen on the NAV (do not operate while driving yada yada..). The problem is, sometimes I don't get the "OK" button in the bottom right to continue on. Ihave to go to setup, then return to NAV/MAP.. Sometimes I have to do that a few times before I get the OK button to continue on. Anyone experience this? Thanks

MY 05 TL was owned by a road salesman, and he has over 200 saved places in the PLACES folder. how can I DELETE these????? The dealer was clueless how to do this. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!! :confuse:
  • kenamarokenamaro Member Posts: 2
I have the same problem....sometimes I wait 20-30 seconds before OK comes up.other times it appears right away....

I've had a Garmin for years, paid $1,400 for it, there is a night and day difference between the Acura and Garmin.
It's the worst thing about the car... wrong turns, dead ends, frequently tells me to go the way out of my way to a destination. Very very frustraiting. Then they want over 2x the price for an upgrade.

I recently purcahsed a 2007 TL Type S and was wondering how do I find out what version disk I have and what year it is? Reason I ask is that my brother bought a brand new car 2 months prior to mine and his had a 2005 dvd disc with his nav system. He did some calling and got the upgrade that he should of gotten when he bought the car to begin with?
  • taxesquiretaxesquire Member Posts: 681
I don't know if there's a way to chck by scrolling through the menues, but you can go into the trunk and remove it from the drive back there. In my '04, it's kept towards the front right of the trunk.

This person is so correct.....Nav system Algorithms are horrible!!!!!!!!!!
  • mikeh4474mikeh4474 Member Posts: 5
Just bought a TL w/NAV, I looked at the disk in the trunk and it is a 06 version. Should it be an 07?
  • taxesquiretaxesquire Member Posts: 681
I don't think so - it takes time to make the disc, so I bet most '07s have discs from 2006.

I have a 2001 TL and just upgraded the DVD at the suggestion of the dealer because I was having trouble getting the navigation system screen to display. I would have to turn the car off and on four or five times (sometimes more) before the display would come up. The new DVD didn't solve the problem. I still have to turn the ignition key three or four times to get the screen to come up. And when the screen does display the nav system seems to lag behind the car more than it did with the older DVD. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a fix besides reprogramming to the old DVD?
  • lintattoolintattoo Member Posts: 2
The same thing is happening to me. I brought my mdx in and they told me to upgrade the dvd. When that didn't work they told me they checked the connections, but they could see no problem. They suggested I buy a new system for $3,300.00. There must be a better solution.
  • airahuairahu Member Posts: 2
That's what the dealer told me too. My car is six years old now so there is no way I'm spending that kind of money. I bought a Tom Tom system that works as well for less than $500 and I can take it in any car I own.

Did you ever get the problem with your navi on your Acura fixed? I'm having problems with the screen on my 01 CL and I'd love a solution.

    Hello!
I have the following question: my navigation screen is cracked by accident. Everything is working though and I can still see the screen and all the controls work as normal. The only thing is broken is the screen itlself so I have to use buttons and knob to enter address, switch channels, etc. Therefore, I just cannot use touch screen feature anymore. Is there any way to replace just the screen? If not, what other alternatives I can look for besides paying $2000+ for the whole system replacement as dealership does?
Thanks in advance for your response.
    Leo.

    Hello,
I just found the site and it's been most helpful thus far, thank you. I have a question about updating the navigation system. I just bought the updated disc (which is on sale for $149 through Feb I think) and am wondering how difficult it is to install by myself. I'm sure the dealership will want to charge an arm and a leg to install it and I'm curious if anyone knows what is involved. Thank you in advance. By the way I have an '05 TL.
  • taxesquiretaxesquire Member Posts: 681
the disc gets loaded in the trunk on the right side - should have a diagram in your car manual. I think it's just a matter of removing the current disc and replacing it, just as you'd do to put a new cd in the readio
  • dbzgirldbzgirl Member Posts: 1
    Hi,

I'd like to know where you bought the updated Navigation disc for your TL?
    Thanks :)
  • rvator4rvator4 Member Posts: 84
I got mine by googling acura nav dvd and got this:

    https://store.alpine-usa.com/Acuradvdsales/naviorder.php

    Follow the directions.

I have a 2000 TL that we bought new and before a long trip, I updated it. Problem was on the trip, it froze up many times, would give directions to turn on small side streets even though the map showed to continue, and didn't have the destination street that was in a development many years old.
After returning, I sent it back but it took the BBB to get a refund. Alpine did not want to allow it. So unless you travel a lot, think twice.

Just hit map, menu, and cancel for 5 seconds and that gets you into a diagnostic menu. There is a firmware button that can reload the software. Some nav units could be menu map and cancel.

For those with 4.55 to 4.56 software and want to updgrade then 4.70 is coming out soon. This disc will fix all the 4.62 problems. If you are in Hawaii it will add Hawaiian maps. No word yet on when 4.70 is coming out but it might be soon. Some 4.70 discs were spotted on ebay but aren't for sale right now. Hope this helps.

I just bought a 2001 tl and it did not come with navi cd.What should I do??
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
Unless you can talk to the seller and get the disk (if available), your best bet would be to log on to the Acura/Honda link and buy an update disk for $149 from the Alpine Store.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
    http://www.acuranavi.com

Just choose your model and it will give you the right disc. Not only that you get the latest maps. Might be important. Hope this helps.

The 149 one that one of the guys recommend isn't actually his version. Thats the 3.70 version that doesn't work in a 2001 TL. The 2.50 version is the one he needs if you have a 2001 TL. It's on back order but will ship. It's more expensive but it's guaranteed to work. Just wanted to clarify that.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
Thanks for the version clarification. Do you know why that one won't work? Also know what the version 4.7 has to offer?
  • diggin_itdiggin_it Member Posts: 2
Thanks on that info can that cd be copied?
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Yes but you need a Dual Layer DVD burner. DVD+R DL media is required. There are posts on other forums that teach you how to do it.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
The reason why he can't use the 3.7 disc is that his system is older. Honda/Acura has 3 Generations of DVD nav systems. Each disc is designed to work for that system. The 3.x is the first voice recogntion system. Probably there are enhanced hardware. 4.x is the latest. The 1.x to 2.x system is the original DVD system.

4.7 is probably a bug fix. 4.62 has had problems. People are claiming lots of reliability problems with it. Freezing and crashing. Alpine took it out and made it for dealers only. Maybe 4.7 is the 2009 update or the 2008 spring update. Might see it in January or Februrary.

    Hope this helps.
  • rv65rv65 Member Posts: 1,076
Oh and 4.70 is only compatible with 2007 and up TL's. Just wanted to clarify that.

hey guys i was wondering if anyone has the same problem i do. my navigation stays on day mode even during the night when set on "auto" in the setup. and yes, i went into the color setup and made sure the night and day are black and white. does anyone else have this problem? is it something worth asking the dealership to help?
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
It will stay on if the headlights are on during the day. It is set to do whatever the headlights are doing.
