1. to have the radio going, wait for a commercial, and then say "CD play disc 4 track 7"
2. ask my passenger if they're warm/cold, and then say "Passenger temperature, ______ degrees" :shades:
It never ceases to impresses, although when I say "72 degrees" and it hears it as "85 degrees,"
There's a few of those question commands, where the system responds back with an answer.

I like the 07 screen better than the 06 one, but if a new DVD won't do anything about that, I won't buy one.
Thanks
Thanks!
Is this because of the new software (06/07)? or is it only for the MDX nav? I wouldn't mind upgrading as I thought the feature was useful. Many thanks.
The updates will update the maps and information, but don't seem to provide new functionality.
I wrote Alpine and told them about it and they said I only had two weeks to return it after purchasing and it had to be in the original package.
I contacted the BBB in their city and soon had a letter saying I could return it for a refund anytime.
I was not happy with Acura. It took 4 hours for Acura to figure out how to reprogram the old DVD to make it work.
Alpine does not care about your missing streets.
Not sure if I'm misunderstanding what you're surprised about, but my '04 TL does that, too. Not just major highways, but major roads, too.
Also, how do we make a request that Alpine/Acura use Yahoo or Google maps? The current map looks like a 6th grader drew it.

It is relatively simple. Of course it could take months before Alpine puts out a new DVD w/ this updated info. It will also show you when you enter in the address if they have the correct location now (it just hasn't been passed down stream).
The other major provider is Teleatlas. You can report problems to them at:

Interestingly, teleatlas had my location correct (well w/in 50 feet).
So if you have a problem you should check both places because a friend maybe trying to get to your home using Tom Tom which uses TeleaAtlas - particularly if you live on a new street/development etc.
It's the worst thing about the car... wrong turns, dead ends, frequently tells me to go the way out of my way to a destination. Very very frustraiting. Then they want over 2x the price for an upgrade.

I have the following question: my navigation screen is cracked by accident. Everything is working though and I can still see the screen and all the controls work as normal. The only thing is broken is the screen itlself so I have to use buttons and knob to enter address, switch channels, etc. Therefore, I just cannot use touch screen feature anymore. Is there any way to replace just the screen? If not, what other alternatives I can look for besides paying $2000+ for the whole system replacement as dealership does?
Thanks in advance for your response.

I just found the site and it's been most helpful thus far, thank you. I have a question about updating the navigation system. I just bought the updated disc (which is on sale for $149 through Feb I think) and am wondering how difficult it is to install by myself. I'm sure the dealership will want to charge an arm and a leg to install it and I'm curious if anyone knows what is involved. Thank you in advance. By the way I have an '05 TL.
I'd like to know where you bought the updated Navigation disc for your TL?
Thanks

Follow the directions.
I have a 2000 TL that we bought new and before a long trip, I updated it. Problem was on the trip, it froze up many times, would give directions to turn on small side streets even though the map showed to continue, and didn't have the destination street that was in a development many years old.
After returning, I sent it back but it took the BBB to get a refund. Alpine did not want to allow it. So unless you travel a lot, think twice.
For those with 4.55 to 4.56 software and want to updgrade then 4.70 is coming out soon. This disc will fix all the 4.62 problems. If you are in Hawaii it will add Hawaiian maps. No word yet on when 4.70 is coming out but it might be soon. Some 4.70 discs were spotted on ebay but aren't for sale right now. Hope this helps.
Just choose your model and it will give you the right disc. Not only that you get the latest maps. Might be important. Hope this helps.
The 149 one that one of the guys recommend isn't actually his version. Thats the 3.70 version that doesn't work in a 2001 TL. The 2.50 version is the one he needs if you have a 2001 TL. It's on back order but will ship. It's more expensive but it's guaranteed to work. Just wanted to clarify that.
4.7 is probably a bug fix. 4.62 has had problems. People are claiming lots of reliability problems with it. Freezing and crashing. Alpine took it out and made it for dealers only. Maybe 4.7 is the 2009 update or the 2008 spring update. Might see it in January or Februrary.
Hope this helps.
