just filled up my '79 5th Ave today at lunch. Premium was $4.159/gal! Even more sickening, I got a whopping 8.2 mpg on this tank. :sick:
Checking my records though, the last time this car was filled up was back on July 17, 2010, which would have been a few days after coming back from the Carlisle Mopar show last year. Since then, it's only been driven about locally, short trips, sitting around alot, and staying off the roads during the winter.
Considering that tank of fuel is 9 months old, would evaporation be a factor? I know modern fuel systems are a lot more airtight than the older ones, but I'm not convinced that it's totally airtight.
I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive billing cycle on the credit card. I want to get the convertible and LeMans topped off as well fairly soon, and, if it starts and can make it all the way to the gas station, New Yorker #2 as well.
The last time my 1989 Cadillac Brougham was topped-off was following the Fall Meet of the local chapter of Cadillac-LaSalle Club's Fall meet in Lahaska, PA at the end of September. The Sunoco is only 1/2 mile from my home, so I still have a full tank + one bottle of Sta-Bil. The DTS is still topped-off from mid-November when it was placed in winter storage. Filling the entire fleet would be a very expensive proposition these days.
If it makes you feel any better, I just filled up the Fusion for the same price for RUG. Fuel definitely loses it'd power over time. The worst mileage I ever got (14.6) with my Mustang was when I didn't drive it for 2 years. I think I started it once during that time.

What's pretty nutty down here at the moment is the spread from station to station. The two stations I pass on the way to work are 12 cents apart ($3.67 and $3.79)!

Yesterday I had the Outback washed and vacuumed. Then I crammed it up against the studs along one wall of the garage and don't plan to drive it until the snow falls.

funny. I observed the same thing this morning. I was only look at the mid-grade price, but the Hess in Jackson was $3.78, while the Sunoco was $3.89. Not even close.

Meanwhile, our intrepid government is making noises about raising taxes on oil compaines. Gee, let's see who would pay THAT. I bet we could raise property taxes on owners of apartment buildings to get money out of them too!
I see demand falling. It won't be long before I'm walking or taking the bus. It's not that I can't afford it, but I can't stand being ripped-off. Besides, I could stand to lose the weight.
I'd bus it now, but my little 10 minute drive home is a good 25 mins longer (the morning commute is actually not much longer via bus). After a long day at work, I just want to get away...but eventually I might do it too.
I figure I can work from home once in a while. Can't drive the car that day though. Still like to see other people, so I would prefer to not work from home all the time.

The most coupons I can collect top out at 20 cents off a gallon, so if this price holds, I could still fill up for under $4 a gallon. $3.99 9/10ths is still under $4.
a few stations on the morning commute were advertised at $4.47(9) and $4.49(9). Those represent a 20 cent jump since Friday afternoon. These were in West Chicago so figure the REAL Chicago must be over the $4.50 mark, especially downtown.

My local Shell is back up to $4.29 this morning. They had dropped to $4.25 last Friday. All 5 stations in town are the same this morning. Two Chevron, Valero, Shell and Mobil.

Maybe one day I'll again buy Kellogg's Frosted Flakes instead of the generic equivalents LOL. :P
Shell and Mobil both went up to $4.32. They are selling diesel at $4.79. I don't think I would fill up here if I bought a diesel vehicle. Several stations within 15 miles have ULSD for $4.35. The advantage would be not needing to fill more than once a month.
This time was able to go back to the usual place, fill-up was for $4.22 for 87 octane.
For comparison last week's price was $4.00 but the place was jammed packed so I went to a Shell right down the road. I usually pass this on my way to the usual place so it's not like I'm going out my way and it's price was $4.02. Well this same Shell's price was $4.46, a 44 cent jump in a week :surprise:

You won't find much love in Ohio from low gas prices. We were at $4.15 then dropped to 4.05 and rose to 4.19 and now are dropping to $4.05 at Rt. 42 west of Columbus (Pilot, BP, Speedway) on I-70 and at Huber Heights Rt 202 (BP, Speedway, Kroger, and Rt. 201 (Shell, Marathon, Meijer) along I-70. I suspect they may drop lower on Thursday.
I'm only driving into PA tomorrow. May need to fill up before I get to my sister's, or definitely before hitting the highway on the way to Oxford. Might have to fill up at exit 10, or maybe can make the whole second segment.

Filled my PU at our local Shell station last evening. Price for regular $4.33. Still beats driving to Costco and paying $4.12 for RUG. Worst part is they have raised the price of a car wash with 8 gallon purchase to $5.99 from $3.99. A very hefty increase. Part of the massive inflation we are seeing.

I used to drive to a suburban Lowe's for house and garden supplies, but now go to a Home Depot in the 'hood. Same for pet food for the kitties.
There is a nearby supermarket I can walk to as well as a CVS pharmacy.
Any trip out of town, I try to get all the things I need during that trip.

I've filled up with plus rather than premium the past few tanks and my mileage has actually improved in my GTI. Up to 28.5 on the last fillup.
