I've seen about 5 Lotus Elise over the past few days, and yesterday I drove behind a silver Bentley Continental. I expected it to be bigger somehow.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
I saw a new style Jetta today, and it was a lowline - from what
I could tell, it had plastic wheel covers. Not a good look...

Keep seeing the Audi A3's at the Automall where I work. It's actually a very nice looking vehicle, with good lines no matter from which angle you look at it. I guess they must have arrived about a week ago.

Just saw the new Aston Martin DB9 as it drove by me. It was a nice grey color. The car looks better than it does in pictures. The styling is fantastic.

Also saw a silver Bentley Continental in the fast lane of the highway. One of the best looking vehicles out there for sure.

And finally, a brown BMW 1 series. I'm glad BMW didn't goof the styling. It looks perfect.

...red Corvette C6 coupe. This car is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Last night a Silver Aston Martin DB9 (possibly vanquish I was distracted and they look really similar) slowly turned a corner in front of me driven by Michael Strahan (NY Giants player). He was with a a laughing blonde and seemed to be lovin life. The car was stunnning so I can understand why.

I also saw my first m35x infiniti... I don't know why it's so boring looking. The g35 sedan which is'nt thaaaat gorgeous blows this one away. i know it is suposed to be a great car but it doesn't convey any exitement... same with the new gs lexus
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw only my 2nd new Jetta V. They're still rare around here.

GS300 AWD at the carwash this morning. Nice gun-metal Gray color, very sharp.

Drove up to Nashua,NH (approx 20 miles from my home). Counted 14 new Avalons on the way there and back! Challenging the Ody for most popular new model I guess...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,661
I'm seeing a lot of new Avalons too (I live 35 miles the other way from Nashua).

I got a good look at a metallic Red C6 Corvette coupe. It's nice enough to look at but didn't really blow me away. Fit and finish were very good but IMO the 'Vette needs a new design language. The styling isn't nearly as impressive as the performance.

Must be a hit because I've parked close to 3 at a time once. They are all over the place.

Saw a Buick Terraza, the nose and rest of the body almost seem like 2 different vehicles. At least it helped in crash tests, but it ain't pretty.

Plus I think I've only seen about 2-3 CSVs, as GM likes to call them, so far.

An Avalon today, couple of Jettas, and a C6 coupe.

Also a very recent Ferrari in a local neighborhood.

and anything else that Toyota comes out with.. There is a Toyota parts distribuition warehouse about a mile from my workplace, and all of the managers get company cars..

Amazingly, they all drive like teenagers... If any type of Toyota blows by me at 90 MPH on the freeway on the way in... you can guarantee it has the Ohio distributor license plates..

    regards,

PS: the Avalon is a good looking car for what it is..

Aside from no sales tax, you seem to have a lot of 05 Avalons up there! Here in Connecticut (where everything is taxed...), I have only seen 3, and only ONE of those had CT plates (the others had ME and NY plates, IIRC). I love the way they look and want to see more of them on the road!

And speaking of the Ridgeline, I saw one today with something done to it that I wouldn't think would happen this soon. It was silver with 20"+ chrome rims on it! Luckily I only saw it for 2 seconds max as it rolled by my workplace.

I never have figured to see a "pimped out" Ridgeline so soon! I fear it's only the beginning...

"Amazingly, they all drive like teenagers... If any type of Toyota blows by me at 90 MPH on the freeway on the way in... you can guarantee it has the Ohio distributor license plates.."

It's probably not their own personal car, so the whole "rental car" theory would come into play here (drive it like you stole it!).

"PS: the Avalon is a good looking car for what it is.. "

    Yes, it certainly is!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 263,641
They are definitely company cars, and not personal company-subsidized leases.. I understand the whole "rental car" thing.. I'm just not sure how they keep their licenses....

I saw a new Maserati whatever they are called coupe...very pretty, and you can see the Ferrari influence somehow

I'm seeing 3-5 new GS every day now, but I do live a few blocks from a Lexus dealer, and a Lexus here is like a Toyota elsewhere.
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
Yes the Avalon is a fine looking vehicle. I actually like it better than the Lexus ES330. If you like the exterior you should check out the inside, especially with white/light beige leather. It's so spacious and the dashboard is very nicely laid out.

Speaking of the Ridgelines we "pimped out" one in our showroom with 20" chrome rims, it looks really sharp.

Maybe the same one stickguy saw. ;)

I heard the staccato of a nice V8, thought Ferrari, and sure enough, pulled up next to an F430 Spyder, the thing was just gorgeous. Deepest red paint I've ever seen, felt like it had 70 coats of shining paint.

Light turned green and heard the V8 rev up to pull away, but then he turned left and I went straight.

It was more fun to hear than it was to see.

Yesterday in Hyannis MA, I saw a Mercedes CLS60 AMG with badging indicating a biturbo V-12 engine. I can't even find anything on the web indicating that such a car exists, but there it was.
  • davem2001davem2001 Member Posts: 557
    I think the top end CLS is a 55 - supercharged V8, not a 65 - twin turbo V12.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
Looks like a shoddy rebadging...the highest CLS is indeed the CLS55

Of course someone might have taken it upon themselves to drop a V12 into it....but I can't imagine.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Pathetic, there are pretenders even at that level. :(

Heck, it was probably "just" a base CLS (350? 500?) with AMG wheels and a fake badge job....

What would be really bad is if the owner doesn't know any better and got taken by a shady used car dealer.
  • bgillbgill Member Posts: 2
actually, I see that Edmunds' future vehicles reports a CLS AMG with a biturbo V-12 to be on sale in September. The only difference from what I saw is that they call it a CLS65 rather than CLS60. So maybe this was legit, and somebody got hold of an early release from MB.
  • davem2001davem2001 Member Posts: 557
I really doubt it - just the fact that it has 60 instead of 65 screams that it's a fake to me.
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
I agree the Avalon makes the ES pretty redundant. A woman here at work just traded her 96 Avy for a new Limited. Her old one hit 190,000 miles and she just wanted something different. Nice ride, very nice.
  • teds1teds1 Member Posts: 180
Unless it was a CL65 which does exists and the spotter got confused about the lettering, just a possibility. The cls is pretty unique though... fyi the word is that there will not be a cls65 (twin turbo v12) only a 55. I'm getting used to it and I saw it on MTV cribs already so I guess not everybody hates it... when I first saw it though I didn't like it at all
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
My wifes business partner has one. Nice car, beautiful Earthy gree color, more Walnut on the dash than plastic. Rediculously quick.

It's a CLS500 "designo edition". Who the heck is Designo? Is there a "Cornholio edition" too? :confuse:
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
Designo is special paint and interior materials

CLS has a nice interior, but I am not won over by the body

Me too. I was reserving judgement til I actually saw one and now that I have
    I wasn't impressed :( I'd rather have an E-Class, that's a beautiful car!

I saw a goodie today...I guess it belongs here. It was a current S class sedan badged as a S55 AMG. Well, it had a single exhaust. The AMG badge looked kinda big. It had these ridiculous blingy wheels that would have looked better on some cliched Escalade or Denali etc. And the worst part was this odd chrome trim applied to the borders of the headlights and taillights. The ultimate poser.

Oh, and I did notice the other day that the 6cyl S-class is coming back to NA, S350. It's about time. Now we need the CDi.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
Is this in the current body S-class or the new body? It would seem kind of strange to start selling a six in the current body since it's been out for six years now.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
    It's for the 06 model
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
Someone in my building just bought one of those F series Lincoln trucks. No further comment
  • boomchekboomchek Member Posts: 5,516
I saw one on the road already, the Lincoln Mark LT, looks just like the F150, except for the wheels and front.

Ah yeah thats what it is. I don't know what they were thinking...but hey, they sold one anyway.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
Today saw a few Elise, 2x Continentals sitting at the Bentley dealer, and a CLS55
  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277
My first Infiniti M. Brilliant Silver M45 roaring down the highway. Nice prescence to it, beefy, planted stance, almost reminded me of an older Mercedes. Nice... if you can afford one. :(

Wrangler Unlimited... The stretched one.. Either the first one that I've seen, or the first one I've noticed..

Must be just hitting the showrooms, this thing was brand new, parked at a house party. Jet black, R/T with spoiler. There's a Dodge dealer right in town (Fitchburg, MA) Looks real sharp.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
A dealer down the street from me has about 10 of them sittimg in fromt of his showroom. It looks better than the pictures, but I still like the magnum better.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,347
Saw a new Maserati Quattroporte this evening...dark blue and quite lovely. Just a glimpse tells you it is something special.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Saw my first A3 on the road, looks sharp, too bad it's so small.

Saw another Jetta, only my 2nd on the streets. Slow start, older Jettas are abundant around here.

This was wild - saw a brand new Mercedes A-class today - too far away to see what type of plates but I guess they were diplomatic. Looks a bit better than the dorky old one.

Saw a new Tribeca yesterday at the minigolf place. A sort of mint green, not an attractive color IMO.

It had manufacturer plates on it, but not surprising, since I live about 10 miles from SOA headquarters.

I actually think the butt may be even less atrtractive than the nose. At least the profile and interior seem nice.

From what I have read, it is a very nice driving and comfortable unit. Also seems to be a good value (at least if you stay away from the techno stuff). I just think Sube went too far making it distinctive. Have to imagine that they could keep the basic shape while cleaning up the nose and tail a bit, and sell quite a few more.

I also saw a pic of a recent Alfa concept (upcoming on my car of the day claendar). You can really see the relationship on the nose!

Also saw a black Charger on the street (only one so far). Had temp tags, so it had at least been sold.

The Charger I saw was black as well. Has a nice presence, without being as "out there" as the 300. The Accord Hybrid I only noticed because it had special "clean air" plates that allow solo driving in the carpool lanes. Very different from the Prius' "lookit me, I'm drivin a HYBRID!" styling.

Looks better in dark colors, my wife fancies the black one. They should offer a black mesh grille insert to tone down the front a bit, that would look better than the wide horizontal chrome strips on there now.

Here's a comparo of the noses - Andreas Zapatinas is the head designer for Subaru and guess where he worked before? Yup...Alfa.

Spotted at the beach this weekend: Ferrari F360 and a black Ridgeline that my wife said resembled Batman's ride.

I've seen 3 H3's running around the Hershey Area (and that doesn't count the one I test drove). They look alot better than the H2. It kinda reminds me of a Wrangler on Steroids.
