In terms of TOWING capacity there is almost no difference between the F-250 and F-350.
In terms of CARRYING capacity the F-250 can carry about 1500 pounds safely. The F-350 can carry about 3000 pounds safely. These estimates are based upon my '99 F-250, SC and diesel. Your results may vary.
I've been told by a trustworthy service advisor that the only difference between the F-250 and F-350 is the spring capacity and shocks. The frame and suspension is the same.
So, if you need to carry the weight go woth the 350.
Rich
Without considering center of gravity calculations or specific axle loading the numbers are derived as follows.
My F-250 Super Duty, Super Cab, long bed, moderately loaded tool box, full of fuel and driver weighs 7060 pounds on a certified scale. The GVWR is 8800 pounds. Not wanting to exaggerate, that's "about 1500 pounds". As I recall, the F-350 has a GVWR of 10,000 pounds. An F-350, similarly equipped should weigh about what my F-250 weighs. Hence the F-350 capacity should be "about 3000 pounds".
I have no doubt that your truck or either of the F-Series could carry a heavier load. It is just my preference not to carry the heavier load.

I know what you're trying to say, Rich, but all that stuff listed above is ALSO included in you payload. The bottom line is like you stated, if the trucks weigh about the same the diff in payloads gonna' be the diff in GVW. I would venture to guess all the stuff listed above weighs close to 800lbs putting your payload at "about" 2300 lbs.
You're right! But how much of the "total" payload is usable? Me 230, stuff in tool box (and the box) 400, fuel 250. Easy over 800 pounds. So then my truck probably weighs 6000 to 6200 dry for a 2600 to 2800 payload. (Remember that diesel is a heavy sucker! Ford even has a different shock specification for diesels.) Really, I wouldn't want to carry much more than 1500 pounds. That would still leave me below the 8800 GVWR.
Rich
Long as people realize that that first 800lbs comes off ANYBODIES payload.
go to...www,bnsf.com Then go to tracking tools
and follow directions. Should work good!!!
but... I have the power trailer tow mirrors and the passenger side is just standard glass, can't see worth a darn.Saw something about replacing the glass with excursion mirror? Can anyone fill me in? thanks
I ALWAYS put the spot mirrors on everything I own. This is for the rest of my highway driving.
BUT....I do not put them in the bottom corner of the mirror as suggested on most packages. I put them in the upper outside corner.
To answer your question about Excusion mirrors...it was stated the best/cheapest way to go is to get a replacement mirror glass ONLY. Don't get the whole mirror, too expensive. Replace the glass or have a local bodyshop do it for you.
Bright Amber. It is different. It's a good
looking color and you won't see to many vehicles
on the road in that color. I would say go
for it.
Its a no brainer even without a rebate.
Thank you for your help.
more than the gas because it's able to modify fuel
delivery and turbo boost. with gas v10, the
performance increase is much less than the
powerstroke.
you may want to check out superchips (they have
your truck i'm sure)

and maybe hypertech:

Thanks for all the scoop/advice/opinions. With the help of all of you I think I made the most informed decision I could have ever made. And now I have the best truck I've ever owned.I took delivery on a 2001, F250,cc,v10 on 10 Nov 2000. It's all you guys said it would be! But, the Owners manual recommends 5W-20. I live in the southeast sun belt, pull a 4500lb travel trailer. What oil should I use? And when should I make that first change? Thanks for your time and response.
oil posts. If i bought a high end truck, I would
use best of everything (zymol wax, synthetic
lubricants, best car soap.....)
Congratulations on truck purchase...
They couldn,t give me anything but lame excusses.
Sure can't wait to get it.
I ordered my F-250 in Sept. Build date is between
the 4th and 11th of Dec. Dealer called me 2 weeks
ago to tell me about a delay on my truck due to
the chrome steel wheels. I had to order the delux
aluminun wheels to get the order moving.
Later.

I plan to order a 250 4x4 SD PSD CC LWB Lariat and I have a couple questions:
1) Can you order a 40/20/40 with power seats on both sides?
2) Are both seats heated with the heated seat option? This didn't appear to be so on the one I drove. Does one button control both sides?
3) There seems to be some overlap in suspension packages. What exactly are the differences between these packages:
a) Heavy-service suspension
b) max front GAWR
c) camper
d) snow plow
4) Is it possible to order a 3.55 or similar with the PSD? If so, will it kill performance?
5) Anybody have feedback on usefullness of limited slip? I live in snow country.
thanks
Thanks!
Jim
4. 3.55 ratio with PSD? No, the lowest is the 3.73.. However remember the stock tires on a SuperDuty are larger than the F150 tires. So the end ground ratio of a SuperDuty with a 3.73 is just about the same as an F150 with 3.55.
5. Is the Limited Slip worth it? I think so. I only have an 4x2 SuperDuty and the limited slip has helped numerous times on wet fields etc.. (not much snow here yet in NC).
