I lost a twenty in there. After a little thought. I tried pulling the tray that is on the back seat center console. It does come completely out. You can reach all the way up.
If you can't reach it by pulling out the rear drawer, it's not all that hard to remove completely. First remove the drawer ("tray"). Pop off the ring around the gear shift and then pry of the flatter chrome trim piece...there are four screws under there. Then, inside the arm rest storage compartment, remove the bottom lining to reveal four more screws. The whole thing will lift out, but be GENTLE as there is an electrical connector underneath which sends power to the DC outlets and lights up the cupholders, etc. Also, note that there is an airbag component on the floor/frame...do NOT mess with this :surprise:
Hard telling what you might find! This is also how I ran my iPod audio cable into the storage compartment so that I could hide everything in the armrest when I need to.
I'm sure there would be demand, as Nissan/Infiniti have proven those are popular options, but I'd stick with the 18"s. Imagine the tire replacement cost, not to mention the unsprung weight and stiff ride.
This has me thinking that we will see this 20" wheel/tire here too at some point. Perhaps in the rumored 3.6 turbo Tribeca.
Bob"
I put 20" wheels and tires on with in the first few months that the 06 Tribeca came out. Ppl always stared. I guess it caught on enough to make stock. Now I'll have to upgrade to 22".
What else is in the Style package? I'm assuming this is for the 2008. Maybe it will be the 08's version of the Special Addition that was available on the 07 including mesh grille which could be put on the 06.
Rumored turbo 3.6 Tribeca? so almost an sti version? that would would maybe make me go for an 08 Turbo upon sale trade in of my 06 B9 instead of for an MDX, that is if the turbo has more HP and tourque then the MDX. Speaking of B9, I would want to keep the B9 lettering for the 08 since they got rid of the B9 prefix, so i would keep my old B9 letter/number and remove the Tribeca on the 08 in defiance, heh.
Btw, noone seemed interested in the fact that you can have the 07 retractable cargo cover in the 06 by getting the 07 rear interior cargo area side panels installed that accomodate the retractable cover.
Also if anyone is interested in a beige 06 luggage compartment cover and the rear interior side panels (in case your damaged yours on your 06 and need to replace as the part is discontinued, or if you have an 07 and prefer the leather color matched luggage compartment cover as opposed to the 07 non matching black canvas one) there is one on ebay sold by an ebay store called "Its Sold Here".
looks nice seeing the wheels and tires on. Personally I like black wheels but those look decent and i'm curious what tires they use.
I was offered an 07 special edition with everything and low mileage for 5k plus my 06 with more mileage but for the same 3.0 engine its just not worth it, plus my 06 now has mostly everything that the 07 added.
Lets see if this 08 3.6 Turbo pans out in America and what HP and tourque it puts out but i have doubts that will do it or will be worth it.
More interested in mdx for the best features and tech for the money and I want to look into the Mazda CX9 which seems to have come out of nowhere and is larger then the Cx7 and looks nicer to boot.
• Those 20" wheels are for New Zealand-spec Tribecas, not US-spec models. Those links are from the New Zealand Subaru site.
• There is no '08 Tribeca turbo. There have been statements made by folks a SOA that a turbo has been under discussion. There have also been statements to the effect that every Subaru line will get a "STI" model—eventually. That could mean 5 years from now; we just don't know.
I have generic pdf instruction files. Anyone can email me via my profile and I'll gladly forward them on, with some more specific directions to boot :-)
I had a thread started at another forum and would like to know your opinions. The only thing missing from my 5 pass is the rear vents. A poster mentioned that though the vents are in the 5 pass, a rear A/C compressor is needed.
I think it's a rear condensor, not a compressor. The compressor IIRC runs off the engine belts in the engine compartment. I have rear AC on my Armada and it's a rear condensor, you can see there are 2 distinct pools of water from it when sitting in a parking lot with the AC running. Feasability I would think would be close to zero.
My Subaru dealer has sent me a letter offering to buy back my '06 Tribeca at $2,000 over book value because they have a need for their used car market. They're offering to upgrade me to an '07/'08 Tribeca. I love my '06 but would LOVE to get an '07 with the mesh grill, up front AUX connector and memory seats. Don't dig the '08 at all (except for the interior, of course!)
What do you make of this? I wouldn't think anyone would go near the '06, considering the improvements made in '07 and '08.
Well, what they really want is for you to come in and buy a new car from them. They're not going to buy yours for $2000 above market value if you don't buy a new one from them first.
So that's a bit misleading.
Having said that, the Guaranteed Trade-in Value Program is quite good. They'll offer you about as good as you could get for your trade. 07s are $10k off MSRP right now so you can definitely get a favorable deal if you want a newer one.
They offered $10,800 for our 02 Legacy a short while ago when the private market was $9000-11000. That's good given you don't have to hassle with a private sale, plus in MD I would not pay sales tax on that amount.
Well, there's also the Quest but that wasn't on my short list, a bit too bizarre for me.
I really liked the 08 Tribeca and it was my emotional favorite, but the van was less expensive and has more room, so I was outvoted by the family, basically it was our practical favorite.
We still have a Legacy so we're covered when it snows. We're actually looking to replace that next year, but probably with a Forester. LL Bean model, perhaps. I want to see the new ones when they come out.

That doesn't sound bad but yeah then you have to buy another Subaru from them. I have a feeling they have more demand for the 06 and 07's because many like the styling better then the 08. I know I do and sounds like you as well.
You can get the 07 special edition mesh grille put on your 06. I did and took the Subaru badge off it, painted the background part where the badge was black and it looks great.
My dealer offered me the owners 07 special edition with very low mileage on it for 5k after trade in of my 06 with much higher mileage. So 5,000 to upgrade to the 07 but it woudn't be much of an upgrade, I like my satin white Pearl better then the black that the 07 se was though that is my second choice color probably.
I've already done a lot to my 06, some of which I would maybe still have to do again then to the 07, but I did spend $700 for new rear interior cargo area panels to accomodate the retractable cargo cover and installation of both. Didn't have any luck so far selling my 06 interior cargo area covers and 06 luggage compartment cover.
If anyones interested let me know. Whether you have an 06 and damaged your rear interior side cargo area panels or maybe have an 07 and actually liek the 06 cargo cover better?
anyway, like the person told you they just want to get another sale so its worth it to them to give you a little more for your trade in.
Personally, i'm probably going to a different make so its no good for me, i can hopefully have a dealer friend give me 2,000 over book value which i think i got from him last time where i got closer to private sale value or right on or near that then dealer traade in value and that is usually at least 2,000 over dealer trade in book value.
Sucks i dont like the 08. The only way i would consider it is if they made an STi version and a special edition package like they did on the 07. As of now there is no special edition 08 so no mesch grille or other options like that.
Was like the Mazda CX-9 but probably just still going to go with an Acura MDX. Maybe when the 2008's come out as the 2nd year of the new redesign i can get an even better deal on an 07 redesigned MDX but ppl are already getting invoice for it.
i'm still pissed at how much i paid for my B9 at like 1-2k under msrp.
Basically Subaru dealerpship offering to buy back the 06 tribeca for 2k over book vaue (and i assume that was dealer trade in book value) would be great if they actually had anything worth getting.
I may see if my dealer will just buy it back for that much and not make me buy somethning new from them.
While i'm starting to look for next vehicle, I do still love the way my B9 looks with the front windeows tinted to match the back and the 20" black wheels etc. its one of the nicest looking midsized on the road, most unique as t here aren't a lot of 06-07 B9's to begin with and they dont look like mine.
i'm thinking of holding onto it as it gets more rare and less 06 and 07's available in might be in more demand later and you can get more the 2k over book value. In fact there may come a point where you could get very high bids if you auctioned it on ebay or something.
but its a gamble, as if you thought 2k over book is the best you will ever get and only now and the offer is not open to take later, but i'm betting that the offers will only get better for an 06-07 even though your mileage may go up and decrease the value. i think there is going to be more demand out there for the 06-07 as time goes on.
I'm' thinking that sweet spot will be next year when there are no 06-07's left at dealers and they have ppl asking for them, the dealer will pay you more then 2k over book and not make you buy a new car from them plus like i said, private sale and auction might do even better.
Wait too long and i guess value will go down as new vehicles will come out but i'm thinking the sweet spot will be somewhere around next year this time or whenever dealers dont have any 06-07 B9's left.
btw i use the B9 name as they omitted that from the 08 and i have just the B9 on my car with the Tribeca removed in defiance of the new model.
This probably is not the correct board for this question, but here goes. My wife spilled tan nail polish on our black leather seats, it dried and now almost seems to be part of the seat , it won't wash off. Can I use nail polish remover? Or any suggestions would be appreciated.
Check with a local detail shop. You might try DL automotive hand cleaner. May be too late now the polish is set, but it's done wonders getting paint and oil stains out for me. Nail polish remover shouldn't hurt the leather but could fade the colour. You should be okay if you are very careful (rag over finger-tip and Q tips) and keep it to the polish only. I've successfully used acetone on one very stubborn stain without harming the leather or finish. You can always have someone blend in new black if everything goes awry.
Have a look at this discussion: Cleaning Leather/Cloth Interiors. Maybe you'll find some tips or you can ask there, also. Let us know how you make out.
Yes, especially with "telling" your wife not to use nail polish in the car. I know right where that would get me, and it certainly is not into a clean car! :P

I'm trying to decide between the 5 or 7 pass model (2008, but don't think the other years are much different).
I've only been able to look at a 5 passenger model in person recently, so maybe someone who has a 7 passenger model can help answer a few questions for me.
Oh, and I'm carrying dogs, not people. Just running around town isn't an issue; I'm looking for the best way to carry 2 large dogs when we go on a trip. We'd still need a roof-top carrier, but just trying to make the best use of available space.
Regarding the 7 pass, can you fold the 2nd row seats down, and slide them all the way back to the 3rd row, BUT have the seat-back up on the 3rd row? How big of a height differential is there between the folded 2nd row and 3rd row seat?
My thought is to have the dogs in that area, and still be able to have a small amount of cargo in the very back behind the 3rd row. I think that area would be slightly larger then usual cargo area behind the 2nd row. (I've got a REALLY big dog, and one just normal big size)
I'd have a foam dog bed down to help span the difference between the seats.
Or the 2nd row could be slid as far forward as possible, with some duffle bags spanning the space between folded 2nd row and 3rd seat, with the dog bed on top.
And does anyone know if the "headroom" the same in the cargo area behind the 2nd row, when comparing the 7 pass. with 3rd seat folded down and the 5 passenger?
I don't know why you couldn't have the 3rd row up & the 2nd row down. You'd have a gap to fill in where the 3rd row seatbacks would've folded down into, but you could do that with a piece of foam, I suppose, and then lay the doggie bed on top of that. Headroom in the cargo area should be the same whether it's a 5-pass or 7-pass. The space the 3rd row takes up in the 7-pass becomes a covered cargo compartment in the 5-pass. The load floor should be the same height.
Cargo area in a 5-pass is about 44" long. The space you're describing using 2nd & 3rd rows w/the 3rd row seatback up would be about 60", so you'd definitely have more space that way. You can check out Tribeca's various cargo dimensions here: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/tribeca/tribeca2008.html#cargo%20dimensions
A big plus if you go with the 7-pass would be that model's extra vents in the ceiling, which would help your pups keep cool. The 5-pass doesn't offer that feature.
You really go the extra mile for your dogs! They're lucky.
If you live in a warm climate or have fairly hot miserable summers, I highly recommend the 7-pass for the rear AC (as Jeff mentioned). It's an absolute blessing out here in the desert.
There's no difference in the size of the rear cargo space between the 5 and 7 passenger models. the 3rd row folds flat into the floor as if it wasn't there. With the 5 passenger, there is a small under floor cargo space in lieu of the seat. As was previously mentioned, the extra air conditioning vents and controllable blower will be a big plus for keeping the rear area cool for your dogs.
I find the Tribeca a perfect vehicle for someone who occasionally needs to carry a couple extra kids back there, but normally only needs a 5 pass. Go for the 7-pass option. You'll spend an extra grand now, but you'll get it back on resale.
Well, everyone makes mistakes (the polish) but, as men, we must wonder what reasoning would lead to the car making a suitable location to apply nail polish.

Well since I started this discussion a few days ago it is time to get back. Thank you all for your suggestions, but alas the polish has become a part of the seat. It got on there because the bottle cap was not secure (wife left it on the seat). The color is tan and it really doesn't go well on black leather.
Now if this occurred on my Tribeca with beige leather it might have not been so noticeable but this occured in my '03 Saab. Upside to this story ... she feels so bad she agreed that it is time for me to get a new car. Will deal with the no make up application in the car when the time comes.
Nice solution, Jerry! Are you sure you didn't knock over the bottle? :P Looks like I'm gonna have to get my wife to spill a little nail polish in one of our Subies when I start to feel the urge to upgrade to a new model.
So, replacement for the Saab... is a new Legacy or WRX in your future?

No word on tire size, but I'm guessing 255/45x20. I'm also guessing the wheels are 20x8. This is part of the "Style" package.
Wheels can be seen here.
