Just a little side note. I was looking through a
truck mag for their report on the ST and the Nissan and the ST rules, but also shown in the mag was a International truck w/4dr. and a short bed(e.g. ST) and a full size truck (e.g. Supercrew) from the late sixties or early seventies!! Obviously not a new concept just one that is catching on.

I myself have the same problem, can't find a catalog anywhere, took my ST in yesterday morning for some warranty work,... "that's a whole nother story itself, am having a BAD experience there", asked the service dept. for a catalog, they said they don't have them there, ask the parts dept. so i did, they didn't even have a clue as to what i was talking about,.. ??? they said we just have specific catalogs for each vehichle, so i said ok, how about one for the ST, again, nothing, she said don't have one, so i asked ok, how about one for the Explorer,. "oh, we are out of those" arrrghhhhhhhhh,. so i guess, i just can't have one,.......
ok, warranty work, so far, just spoke w/ service dept. they replaced the right speaker that seem to be a bit fuzzy, also, don't know what they are gonna do with the stereo, can't get CD player to take disc in slots 3,4 5,.. hmmmm they said they would see what they could do, told them about the scratches on the arm rails on doors, they told me, it's not under warranty that that's from finger nails and rings and that's normal wear and tear, not manufacture defect,..... also, having major problems with rear head rests, seems over time,.. they get stiffer not easier, to position, i put the back behind driver down alot to put my work gear there, and it's HARD,... service guy again states,... that's how they are suppose to be, i told him i shouldn't have to get a darned hernia trying to lift them up, bend the head rest put the seat down, then, when putting it up again, pull the head rest out,... he said it would get looser with use,... i told him IT HASN'T,........ LISTEN TO ME,..... he stated he compared it with the other ST's and they are the same,. DUH!!!!!!! those haven't been used it, they would BE STIFF,.... i just feel like because i'm a female, i'm getting raked over the coals, and knowing nothing about this kind of stuff, it's hard to stand up, and be strong, when i don't know if i'm right or not. also, noticed over time, when the back window is down, the bed rattles pretty bad, yes, over bumpy roads, but also on smoother roads with normal driving, took a guy out on a test drive yesterday, so they could document it before starting to work on everything and he even noticed it right away. i called today to see how things were going, they said, they didn't hear the rattle, that they would have to take the guy out with them that went with ME,.. i told them,.... put down the window you IDIOT,... obviously you can't hear what's going on on the outside with the engine running, if your closed up inside,..... boy, that one was hard to figure out wasn't it,....... i just feel like i'm a "burden" on them,... oooh oooooooh, i also told them out the paint underneath the doors missing,.... "driviers side, front and rear,.. "it's painted on the passenger side," anyway, he told me, that's how THEY DO IT! it's like that on all trucks, now if i had a black one, it would be more noticeable, but since mine is white not to worry about it,....., they won't fix that anyway,......
i'm at a loss, if i should find anything else wrong, is it worth it, taking it in, since they don't help, or fix anything, it's wasting my time, BIG time, i work on my own, so sure, it's easy for me at times to not schedule to see clients for 3 days, but i can't do this often, it's money i'm LOOSING,.... well,.. anyway, sorry for going on and on,. just very upset and not knowing where to voice my hurtfulness in ford service dept........
    Dove,...... ;-)

Check out the site suvbrushguards.com they are one of the first to offer a custom built guard for the 2001 Sport Trac. I have one on my Harvest Gold and it looks great, only took an hour to install with common hand tools.

If you're the same Dovette as I think you are (what are the odds there are two?), ask for Dan Nohr at Sill Terhar. Dan's the shop foreman and has treated me pretty well. And let me know if they give in on the under-door paint--I got the same line...and my st is black!

My Island Blue ST has arrived!

It came in monday but they failed to install the moonroof I had asked for. :-(

We checked into it and the salesman failed to transcribe it on to the order sheet before giving it to the person who orders from the fatory.

    But everything else was installed.

They upgraded the 6 CD player (invoice price $229) to the Audiophile Pioneer System (invoice price $433)

They also added the Payload Pkg 1500 lb (GVWR 5700-lb)which is an invoice of $85

The kicker is they tried to charge me the $931 for the auto trans.

I had the girl that does there ordering check on this and she said I was under "price protection" because I ordered before the cut off date and exempt from the radio upgrade, GVWR add on, and the auto trans.

So I got two additions at no cost!!!! :-)

My gas cap also rubs... :-(

Showed it to one of the service people and they said they would have to dismantle it to fix the rub.

However I do have paint under all 4 doors. :-)

I checked with our Firestone store in town and the 16" Wilderness ATs are not on the recall.

    Only the 15".

Have haven't found anything else as of yet.

I take it in Friday to have the gas cap repaired and the service manager said to make a list and he would have them go though and make the desired repairs.

Do any of you that have had your ST's for an extended time know anything I need to look at to see if I need to add it to my list?

    Thanks

XXXXX fingers crossed,..... hahaha

To all, more info on Firestone's recall on the Wilderness AT tires. They are saying it only pertains to the P235/R75-15 tires.

    http://mirror.bridgestone-firestone.com/news/newsmain_ATX.html
  • tractiontraction Member Posts: 141
www.ford.com has a lot of info on the recall too. The recall applys to only the 235/75R15 for the ATX and only some of the 235/75R15 Wilderness tires. They give you a code to look for.

The 16" Wilderness on the Sport package are not experiencing the tread separation problem.
  • tractiontraction Member Posts: 141
There are two types of tires announced in the Firestone safety recall.

Firestone P235 75R15 ATX tires were installed as original equipment on the following vehicles:

1991 - 1996 Ford Explorers (excluding Eddie Bauer & Limited editions)
    1996 Mercury Mountaineers
    1991 - 1996 Rangers

Firestone P235 75 R15 Wilderness AT tires produced at the Firestone Decatur plant. These tires were potentially installed on the following vehicles:

1997 - 2000 Ford Explorers (excluding Eddie Bauer & Limited editions)
    1997 - 2000 Mercury Mountaineers
    1997 - 2000 Ford Rangers
In addition, Firestone AT & ATX replacement tires are also included in this safety recall.

Boo Hoo - I just discovered that my Ford hard tonneau cover is cracked in the underside fiberglass structural area. I had it installed at a dealer in Texas about 2-3 weeks ago and have not had time to inspect it since. Based on where the cracks are -it looks to me like they could be caused by lowering the tailgate and then either letting an open lid crash down - or sitting on the lid. Not having the structural support of the tailgate being closed looks to me like what may have caused the problem. I saw the guy at the dealership testing how the lid closed by slamming it down - but didn't think much of it - and I didn't notice whether or not the tailgate was open.

There doesn't appear to be any leaks and the cracks have not prevented the lid from working -but I want this thing to still be functioning in a few years so - back to the dealer.

Tell me more about this term. I ordered mine back in March with everthing except leather and sun roof. Will I get the up graded CD player for the same price as the upgraded one before? And according to new posts the payload package was discontinued. It that correct? I do have a sales reciept with my COD figure when the truck comes in which I've been told 6 to 8 weeks. So guys what about this price protection?
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
The Sport Trac's standard 15" tires aren't affected by the recall. They are Wilderness HT's. The AT's are the ones being recalled.

So as far as I can tell, no Sport Trac tires are under recall.

    THE CATALOG:
If you're talking about the Ford ••Accessory•• Catalog, it should be in the SALES Dept./ Showroom, not the Service or Parts Depts. I got mine from a salesman/mngr.

    REAR HEAD RESTS:
Try spraying some Silicone on the vertical bars. This should make them slide up & down easier. So as not to get the Silicone on your upholstery, you may want to spray it on a cloth and apply it to the bars this way (or) use that little plastic straw that you insert into the spray head for more accuracy with your aim.

    PAINT ON BOTTOM OF DOORS:
Just out of curiosity, I checked the bottom of the doors on my 1987 2-door, full sized Ford Bronco and they were NOT painted either. I had only some "overspray" that others have mentioned. However, after 13 years, 208,000 miles and a few 2-week trips to the beach, NO rust can be found. Go figure... Maybe the door bottoms that DO get painted are the "mistakes". LOL!

The bottom line, dovette --- when you're dealing with auto service depts., remember how much you paid for the vehicle and remind THEM of that fact, if need be, to get the service and repairs you deserve!!!

I'm a 48 year old man and they still try to pull crap on me too! Stand your ground.

The best of luck to you.

Could this be the new Silver Frost Metallic color or is it just the shading in the photo of a white ST ?

Tire Info; This may be old news, but any tire swapping will be done at the Ford dealer - not at Firestone. I got this information direct from Ford. Also, I completely agree with an earlier comment concerning the 16" tires. It's not very comforting to have Firestone/Ford tell you one size is unsafe but the other is perfectly fine. I plan on working hard to get the Firestones off my ST as soon as possible. But since I live in a "cooler" state (Wisconsin), who knows when Firestone will start authorizing replacement here!
General comments - Sport Trac's are still very difficult to get. Most dealers only have 1 or 2. I ordered mine in April and got in in June (about 7 weeks total). Got it at dealer invoice. Very happy so far, but have experienced some of the reported problems. Dealer is trying to get the tonneau cover. Was supposed to be in last week. Still a no-show. I still find it impossible to understand how one of the world's largest auto makers can allow one part to delay delivery of a great vehicle in super demand. Thanks to all who continue to provide excellent information and support to fellow Sport Trac owners. Your efforts are much appreciated.

Just drove by the dealer where we bought our ST and low and behold the truck we ordered in April just came in. We couldn't wait so our dealer found us a ST that we wanted in May only in a different color. We ordered an Island Blue but bought a Wedgewood Blue ST instead. I can't believe it took 4 months to come in with none of the extras that are seeming to hold some orders back. I really can't complain about our ST the gas door doesn't rub, the doors are all painted underneath and we do have the "pulse" when turning into a parking space but that is slowly going away. The only problem we had was that the antenna broke off 2 days after we got in the car wash. Won't take it there again, just hand washes for her. I am worried about the tires, how can one size be safer than another? I live in NY so we won't get any recalls for quite some time. Still loving it!

well, going to pick my truck up from the service dept. i need it back for work, i gave them 2 & 1/2 days to fix things, which i feel was plenty for what needed to be done, they state they can't figure out where the rattle in the bed is coming from, first they said it was from inside, NO it isn't i told them, they said something about the B pillar, whatever that is, the guy said he sat in the back seat, and heard the noise infront of him, i told him he must have found something new then, because i don't hear a thing when all the windows are up, but when the back window is down there is DEFINITLY a rattle coming from the truck bed, they said they hope it gets worse then, so that they can figure it out, so they will look at it next time, when i can take it back in again,. arrrrghhhhhhh, anyone have a rattle in their truck bed, to me it sounds as if something is loose?????

Hi to all....just wanted to let all of you know that it is not to late getting your chairs & knife from ford outfitters. I just received mine last night. needless to say I was surprised to see them seeing I thought that they might have run out. I have been seeing other people post that they received theirs...and was thinking I was passed over. They are very cool chairs and they say "FORD OUTFITTERS ...EXPLORER SPORT TRAC" right on them.
Also got the no boundaries accessories catalog with all the optional equipment available for the st. Just wanted to let you all know that it is not to late to receive them in the mail.
Thanks for all the great info on this page.

I have seen several messages regarding Ford Outfitters and free stuff (chairs/knife). How do you go about getting this stuff?
  • jab1964jab1964 Member Posts: 21
I just received a package from UPS with the FORD logo on the box. I was really shocked. They were the director's chairs and the little knife. the back of the chairs says explorer sport trac, and under that, Ford outfitters. I also I the ford outfitters catalog. Just in case everyone wants to know, I registered my sport trac on the owners section of the ford site. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

For those of you who received the nice gifts, how long after you took delivery of your ST's did you get these gifts? We took delivery of our ST back on May 26th and have yet to receive any of these items. However, we did get a Ford pen (wahoo!) and a small bottle of touch up paint which was sent by Ford. It was actually a thank you from the dealer, not Ford according to the letter.
  • dolphins66dolphins66 Member Posts: 78
We also registered through Ford's website before we took delivery as soon as we had the VIN.
  • tractiontraction Member Posts: 141
Why should they recall tires that don't have the
problem? The tires that have the problems are a
certain size (235/75R15)and those made at the Decatur, Ill Firestone plant, a plant that has had union problems......hmmm. At any rate the DOT is investigating the situation and if other tires were involved, they would force a recall.
  • bigtoe52bigtoe52 Member Posts: 12
I checked my tires 16" and they say Made in Canada. The tires on recall were made in Illinois, so the tires would be different.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
sooch---Firestone is not getting away with anything. They are voluntairly recalling tires. The government is not requiring that they do that. As Traction said, the only Wilderness tires being recalled are the 15" AT's made at the Decatur Il. plant. The recalled tires are just being switched with Wilderness tires made from other plants.

You can call and complain all you want but they're under no obligation to give you new tires. Firestone is offering a free inspection of your tires. Their web site says they'll give you credit (based on wear) for your current tires. But of course, you'll probably have to use the credit for new Firestones.

robertc---There will be no recalls at this time for your Sport Trac regardless of what state you live in. As I posted yesterday none of the Sport Trac tires fall under the recall.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
mikeysmom---The antenna unscrews with a simple wrench. While I've successfully navigated some car washes with the antenna in place, I have now started removing it before entering the automated car wash because I didn't want to have it snap off like it did in your situation.
  • hmlrht1hmlrht1 Member Posts: 19
FYI...I have the 15" Wilderness AT's on my ST as well as others that I have seen. And your right about Firestone not having any obligation to do anything. But then they can settle it all in court instead. 500 million is cheap compared to what it would cost them in court if it became a class action suite. Also ,Firestone has admitted that other tires made at other plants other than Decatur have also had the same problem but just not as frequent. So IMHO I am going to insist that they put something other than Firestones on my ST. My family and I are alot more important than these tires are. Firestone also said they would do whatever it took to please the customer.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
hmlrht1--All of the standard 15" tires that I have seen on Sport Trac's are Wilderness HT's. I don't know how you ended up with 15" Wilderness AT's on your ST.

You stated, "Firestone has admitted that other tires made at other plants other than Decatur
have also had the same problem but just not as
    frequent. "

That's not true. Firestone hasn't admitted anything. Here's a comment taken directly from their web site:

"We believe that these tires, when properly inflated and maintained, are among the safest on the road. Most reported incidents of accidents related to these tires have involved under-inflated, improperly maintained or damaged tires, often operated in very warm climates. "

If your 15" AT's meet the following criteria then you should have no trouble getting them replaced:
"Wilderness AT tires P235/75R15 with an additional Department of Transportation code beginning with the letters VD"

If not, then I don't see how your insistance of them replacing your tires with another brand will get you very far. The only thing I could find on their web site that they offer owners of non-recalled tires is this:

"Consistent with the company’s long-standing policy of commitment to customer satisfaction and service, all Wilderness tire owners were urged to contact their nearest company-owned service center for a free inspection.

"We will inspect each customer’s tires for damage or excessive wear, while checking to make sure the tires are inflated to the level specified by the vehicle's manufacturer,"

If you're so worried about the safety of yourself and your family, nothing is stopping you from going to a tire shop tomorrow and paying to replace the tires yourself.

Many thanks for your feedback of the ST as it's nice to hear the real story before accepting an order on a $25,000 vehicle. Ordered in July and looking for delivery sometime in September. I wonder is that will be call a 2001 or 2002?

I just spoke to a plant floor supervisor at the budd company's North Baltimore plant. She said that they do not make the center bed divider. They said a company by the name of "Carlisle auto" did. She said they initially were going to recieve the divider from them and package it with the tonneau cover. As far as she knows that plan has been scrapped. She was sorry that all she had to offer was a name and not a state or address. I am waiting for a response from ford marketing. I got a hold of a contact and she said she was busy but would call me back today. That is were I am at. Wish me luck.
By the way I got 2 boxes from ford. I got a set of chairs 2 weeks ago and when I got home yesterday I got a second set. That makes 4 chairs, 2 knives, 2 catalogs, and 2 thank you letters. Now I need a table. Maybe I should get http://steelhorseautomotive.com/Pages/pg_trvl2.htm
  • eqkeqk Member Posts: 5
If you are so concerned about the Firestone tires that are not begin recalled, then why would want any Firestone tire? Tires made at different plants and in different sizes are produced differently and as such will be different even if they are called the same thing.

Not to seem inconsiderate of any life or to think any complaint unwarranted, but 300 complaints out of 6.5 millions tires being recalled (1.6 cars based on 4 tires/car) equates to 0.018%. This seems pretty low to me. And as someone has already said the tires could have been improperly maintained adding to the cause of the accidents. I for one will wait to hear all the facts and see how the investigation goes before jumping to conclusions.

Life is not perfect and is not without risk and danger, but we must accept certain risks to live our lives, otherwise you may as well lock yourself in your house and wait to die.
  • rjkunklerjkunkle Member Posts: 74
Ford Marketing just called me back. As of right now ford is working with the manufacturer. She said they may in the future offer a similar deal as they did on the tonneau cover. She said it was not offered as a factory option because problem between the bed extender and the divider. She said that it wasn't a priority because of the conflict and why pay for both if you can only use one at a time. She said they may offer it through FCSD(parts department) but couldn't confirm a date. She said she could tell me even if it could be available within 6 months, she said if she confirmed a time that there would probably be delays.
That is where we stand. Ford is not offering the bed divider any time soon. The bed extender does the same/similar job when folded into the bed. If one has the divider they cannot use the divider with the bed extender in the bed. I do not want to drive with the tonneau closed and the tailgate down so the bed extender can be use.
  • fordsporttracfordsporttrac Member Posts: 300
This is the first I've heard of the divider not shipping with the Tonneau.

The price I paid for the Tonneau cover INCLUDED the divider. When I ordered and PAID for my cover back in March, it INCLUDED the divider.

Now Ford is saying the divider has been removed from the Tonneau cover package and is still charging the same price. Seems to me that some type of Grandfathering has to be done for the divider just as was done on the transmission.

I paid for a Tonneau cover with divider and I expect Ford to honer the deal or refund me the price of the divider.

zack1000...I have been to the dealer 4 times since I have had the ST and each time the ST's in the lot have had the AT's. I have seen a few other ST's on the road and they too have the AT's. As for Firestone admitting to other plants having similar problems, I read that in the newspaper. Of course you can't believe everything you read in the paper or on the internet. And of course Firestone won't admit to anything being wrong with the tires because of all the law suites that are going on. Here in Phoenix, one dealer is replacing even those tires that don't have the VD code at cost for different brand tires. As for the safety of my family and myself, I just spent roughly 25 thousand on a vehicle (including tires) and have already had them replace the original set of 4 tires because they were bad and would shimmy down the highway at speeds of 55 and higher. But then I assume your ST has not had any problems that everyone else is complaining of or you would want it fixed. Right? So maybe to you it is more important for the gas cover to fit properly and the underside of the doors to be painted but the hell with tires and safety. I didn't start this problem..Firestone did!!!
  • hmlrht1hmlrht1 Member Posts: 19
To you that is a small percentage of people (hurt or killed) but I think even one is too much if it is due to shoddy workmanship or design. Why should the general population have to accept a poor product at such a huge cost?(death and injury) Life is not perfect and IS with a LOT of risk. But when something like this happens, then Firestone needs to stop thinking of the almighty dollar and start thinking of people. So I only hope it is not one of your family that increases the percentage to 0.019%.
  • zack1000zack1000 Member Posts: 84
hmlrht1---I don't know what Sport Tracs you have been looking at. But I was just at the dealer and every ST with 15" tires were Wilderness HT's. The 16" upgraded tires ARE AT's. Neither tire is subject to recall. Are you sure you can tell the difference between the 16" and 15" tires that you're seeing?

You said you had all of your tires replaced already. Perhaps your original standard HT's were removed and replaced with the AT's you currently have??

I'm concerned as much with tire safety as the next person. I've closely read the reports on the Firestone tires. But I'm not going to panic and waste my time and money getting tires replaced when there's not one shred of evidence that the tires I'm riding on are dangerous.

If you're so afraid of the reports that you choose not to use Firestones ever again, you're free to do that. What are you waiting for? Just go out and buy some other brand of tires! Then maybe you'll stop whining about Firestone and the "almighty dollar".
  • moose21moose21 Member Posts: 14
HMLRHT1, get a clue - the amount of problems reported compared to the number of tires produced are miniscule. You are going to have problems with any kind of tire if you do not maintain them properly, i.e., check for proper air pressure, rotate them on a regular interval, and replace them when needed (before they get bald). I see, on a daily basis, cars going down the road with low air pressure, out of balance, or bald tires - these are the people who are going to have the problems !! You may not be the one who started the problems, but if you are not going to be a part of the solution, then you ARE going to be a part of the problem ...
  • soochsooch Member Posts: 5
sack1000 watch the news now they have people that have worked at firestone for 27 years explain how a tire is made if 1 at is bad its the design not just one size . regardless of the size they all have the EXACT manufacturing procedure. no mater the size or the plant. channel 4 even had a customer with the 16 inch at.s coming apart. they showed documents that the 16 inch tires were recalled in other countries. firestone is going to hang for this one. you must work or own stock in firestone to even think about defending a bunch of lyers. if you spent 26,000 plus on a sport trac why should you have to spend a penny more on new tires firestone got your money for the first unsafe set let FIRESTONE supply you with a safe set

I can't believe how much I have learned in one day from this website. I am about to buy a Sporttrac and the info on this page has been great. Every time time I go back to the dealership I have a new question for him or I mention something about the trac that he is not sure about. The dealer has been very, very helpful and I feel like he is offering me good deal, 23,800 but it doesn't have all of the options. It is now 6:30AM and I have been up all night reading the 600+ responses just because I want to be in the know on this rig. The trac is in my driveway right now and I am scheduled to meet with him at 9:00AM.

HERE IS MY DILEMMA! After reading about the problems people are having and going out and checking on the trac I have each time I have found nothing to be wrong with this one.(the shimmy/pulse, the gas door rub etc.) I can order one with some of the extras that I would really like(26,500 without leather and sunroof) but how long is that going to take and will it have some of the problems people are talking about?

Help me out here fellas, what should I do?
By the way, I think the trac looks so cool I'm getting one even though some of you have found some problems.

    1. I don't work for Firestone. I don't own stock. And I don't care if they go bankrupt. I just don't like it when people like you go around spreading false information and generalities to try to panic others.

    2. I don't have AT's. I have HT's. So none of the information from your "channel 4" still shows how my tires are unsafe as you claim them to be.

    3. If you read the terms of the recall, the recalled tires are being replaced by other Firestones. So if you believe that all Firstones are bad, how does having them replace my tires with other Firestones solve anything?

Problems with the gas cap and the shimmey are still happening. So there is no guarantee that if you order an ST you'll get it without those problems. And you're probably still looking at LEAST 6-8 weeks, perhaps more.

You'll just have to consider if getting the additional features you want are worth the wait and the risk that the vehicle you order might have problems. Good luck!

DBERNDT - If you signed an agreement & the amount is less than the new price with the same equipment (regardless of standard v optional equipment labels), hold your ground. A written agreement is a legally binding agreement on the seller (you can back out as long as you don't drive it off the lot after the agreement is finalized, and even then you have a very short 'grace' period). But if it's only a few bucks, you may want to barter for services (i.e. - 5-6 oil changes w/ tire rotations ... use your imagination - things that don't cost them much, but can save you some $$ out of your pocket @ retail prices). This approach will help them save face, and will allow you to get dealership service as well as have them look at any problems (warranty work) at the same time (saves you time f/ 2 trips ...). Also, keep up to date on any incentives & have the best ones locked in until you take delivery (right now, they are offering 3.9% financing, better than the 7.9 I got 2 months ago). In your position in such contract negotiations, don't give up anything without getting something in return - remember, it's your money & can give it to someone else if they don't work with you ....

I've had my ST since mid-May and despite a few minor defects, I have found it to be the most practical, fun to drive vehicle I have owned. I think most of the posters on this forum will back this up. I have bought new vehicles from Toyota (Corolla and Sienna), Nissan (Maxima), Ford (95 Explorer) and have owned many late model cars: Honda (CRX), Acura (Integra), and even GM (Camero, Regal, Cierra). They have all had minor defects. Even when magazines like consumer Reports rates Luxury cars at $60,000+ value they report finding minor defects in all of them. Maybe because Sport Tracs are a new type of vehicle and their owners are in a way experimental in nature, most of its defects have become public knowledge through this forum.

Anyway, my point is, don't let the few minor problems with the Sport Trac cause you to not buy one. Test drive one, and if you think it fits your lifestyle (or job as in my case) and planned use for it, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you moose21 for your thoughts on my concerns. What a great idea to ask them for services. Didn't think of that one. I plan on sticking them to the price agreed upon and signed for by my wife and I when we ordered on June 10. I guess the next question is, how cheap can I be? Since the price we agreed upon INCLUDED skid plates at $106, should that come off our price. But then I am asking them to eat the differences in stereo/auto trans totally ($630).

To me, that kind of money is nice new set of Michelin Tires, which by the way, every Ford service advisor I have talked to since 1995 when I purchased my 96 Explorer SPort recommended replacing tires with Michelins because they are a better tire.

As far as all the safety recalls and such... People have a right to be concerned, but you must also step back and look at the BIG picture. WE are talking about the number one selling sport utility vehicle in the world. It's all about numbers as some previous posts have stated. Take any tire from any vehicle and crunch the stats, work the numbers. Compare them and you will most likely find them similar. If there were as many Concordes flying as commercial jets, we would have seen more than just this ONE crash in it's 30 years!
    Think about it. Pure numbers.
Also, you have to evaluate the cases individually since, given the sheer magnitude of sales on these tires, there are different situations. Some of these people could have damaged their tires and sidewalls in turn damaging the tire belts months before you would see any effects like tread separation.
How many of the accidents involved overcorrections? How many involved alcohol? How many involved high speed? How many had already damaged the tires (not visibly) through poor maintenance or careless driving? Are we supposed to believe that Firestone tires are the ONLY tires to experience tread separation? I don't think so. I think many of us need to listen more to what is being told to us by the NHTSA and manufacturer of our vehicles/equipment than the media. The media can conjure up anything they want and turn it into a raging bull. Remember the Dateline tests that were rigged? Death and dismemberment make good news, not calm and relaxing days.
Please get all the facts in before you pass judgements. My original equipment Firestone's lasted a beautiful 66,000 miles in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for two years and Atlanta, GA for two years (EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER CLIMATES). I consistently exceeded the speed limit EVERYDAY on the interstates traveling 30 miles one way to work in Florida and Georgia for four years (have tickets to prove:-O). I maintained my tires by keeping them rotated, balanced, and pressure checked as required by the mfrs rec's.

Please consider all the facts and do not fall prey to the media hype. Yes there is reason to be concerned, but you must remember that these deaths and injuries did not occur while driving the speed limit to church. (I have no vested interest in Firestone/Bridgestone. I am happy with my Michelin's)

Anyway, I get my ST on Aug 23! A week before my bday! Thanks to all the support on here gang!
