    you're right - spray in vs. drop in has been debated and you may have overlooked it. to summarize:

    if you're main concern is that your bed "look" good, not rust, and you don't plan on beating on it...go spray-in

    if you're main concern is preventing bed/wall damage (dents, punctures, etc)...go drop in -

    just be prepared to pull your drop in out every couple years to clean the bed and remove any corrosion beginning to take root.

    Yea kinda like how you describe it. I had it checked out by the service dept. For an hr he listened to all the major components in the engine with a stetoscope. It was determined it was from the intake. We also found a tahoe and another silverado that made the same noise. It has nothing to do with the A/C. I was right there the whole time he checked it out. Also it doesnt make the noise til the truck warms up.

    It seems it has quieted down since i changed to mobil 1 5W-30. I dont know if that has anything to do with it but thats all i have changed lately. Seems like overall the truck is running a little bit better too.

    I had black nerf bars.....they looked good...but EVERY brand will chip and rust in 2 years or less....it begins with bubble like rust....then a mass of orange!

    Chrome will take a dump almost as soon.....

    Chrome covered stainless is much better...or better yet get something solid stainless.....but be prepared for a jump in price.....

    I got the boards below...a combo of boards and nerfs......solid stainless...only drawback....$600 for fronts...$400 for rears....

    I meant that it was only detectable with the a/c off because of the extra noise that the a/c being on puts out, i.e., you could not hear it with the a/c on because the a/c noise drowned out the thumping noise. I did not mean that the a/c was connected with the noise. Did the tech say anything about the noise being fixable? It is kinda annoying if you are in the truck idling for extended periods of time (heh, heh). I can even hear it outside of the truck sometimes.

    No fix yet. He said no harm is being caused its an echo thats how he described it an echo in the intake?. Guy has been a gm tech for 22 yrs. He wasnt bsing me.

    do you think that guy has any vibration or frame flexing problems?

    Maintenance tip-seeing that GM or it's dealers don't lube the door hinges prior to delivery, take 10 minutes and lube them, did mine with some white lithium spray and a definite improvement-x-cab doors open & close SMOOTH!

    Got to try out the traction control this a.m.(3" of snow) Works great!

    I put nerf bars on my truck this past summer. I chose Westin black. My truck is 2 tone, the bottom color is pewter so I figured black would look good in contrast. I think they look good but I think the chrome would have looked better.
    Part of my decision was that either black or chrome will chip and start to rust, but black is easier to touch up.

    I am thinking of putting on a dual exhaust on my truck. Originally I was thinking about a flowmaster but now I am leaning towards Gibson. $290 for complete kit in performance products.

    I want the 2 rear exit pipes, not the side exit.

    My question is... it says that the spare tire may have to be removed or relocated. Has anybody run into this problem? Does anybody know of a system that does not require the spare to be removed?

    I've seen a few Silverados around where I live that have dual exhaust, I think from the factory? Is this possible?

    Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

    No dual exhaust from the factory. Be careful with Gibson. I had extreme resonance at 1500 to 1800 rpm in any gear with the swept side. Ended up scrapping the Gibsons for the PV system. In my search for the right exhaust, I've found that Magnaflow and Borla makes good systems. Heard a lot of diffeerent opinions on the flowmasters.

    In terms of performance, it seems that all the manufacturers agree that single 3"in/3" out is the best. Some loss of lowend torque with dual systems. Also duals should not exceed 2.25" pipes exiting.

    Do you believe that there is a TSB for the squeaky door hinges. I guess a lot of people had complained about 'em.

    How do you guys keep chrome nerf bars from getting rusty (painted ones, too)?-even with weekly cleaning, it seems like a hassle. My .02.

    I'm not aware of any tsb for squeaky hinges-GM would just consider it a maintenance item. On my '01 there was only one small spot of lubricant on one area of one hinge. I stuffed a rag in behind the hinges and applied a liberal amount of lubricant on the hinges, wipe off the excess, and what seemed to really do the trick for smooth operation was on the rollers and other contact points.

    The color of my truck is Light Pewter. I am leaning toward the black rails and a black Aerocover(comments?). I won't be hauling much in my truck but I want to be able to take the bed cover off by myself when I do haul. I like the spray-in for my bed but if I am just going to cover it up do I need to spend $300 when a $100 drop in liner will work?

    I have to have the bed covered and waterproof due to the fact that baby strollers, groceries, etc... will reside there.

    I don't want a truck that will stand out (like orange) but at the same time I don't want a truck that looks like everyone else. Most go with either chrome or stainless step rails so I thought black would distinguish me slightly and would match a black bedcover.

    Ryan, I might give my dash board removal a try. I tried it once on a 93 Pontiac Grand Am and never got it to go back on correctly.

    Any ideas on my seatbelt squeak? Driving last night and it seems louder.

    i suppose that if you kept the bed covered, theoretically water couldn't get between the bed and liner. if it's humid where you live, that may create problems also. if money is your main detractor, don't get the spray-in. if the money isn't THAT big a factor (it IS a $25k truck!) go with the spray-in. i really think you'll like it better for the type of use you're going to give it. even tim can't disagree with that... ;)

    fyi...17+k miles on mine and no signs of rust/chipping/discoloration on my westin platinum cps nerfs. of course i don't drive on salted or cindered roads yet though either... fwiw

    I thought you mentioned this before, but what was the TSB # for the new latches on the rear quarter windows. Mine have been fixed (rather attempted to be fixed) a couple of times now. Thought I might try this newer approach.

    i know when i shopped for them, the best price i found was a local parts dealer...not on the web. here's what you do: go to westin's website

    www.westinautomotive.com

    and get their toll free contact #. call it and ask them what their cost is for your vehicle...they'll tell you. then ask for a list of retail stores near you. if anything, the store should only make you pay for the nerfs and s&h. i can't remember if mine were $326 or $356...but they were something like that. platinum cps w/4 step pads.

    Alright, you got me. I guess if I can afford a $25,000+ truck I can afford the spray in bedliner. I will just have to wait a little longer and save up a few extra paychecks.

    I really like the features of a bedrug liner, but its not cheap either. Fellas, check out www.bedrug.com and tell me what you think.

    Anyone have any idea what it costs to tint the front two windows? Also I want it to match the back, is there a certain % that you ask for?

    Ryan, I really like the dark blue. I was down to blue and the light pewter but my last truck was blue so I decided to change it up.

    I guess I need to get a digital camera so I can put pics up. Any suggestions? On second thought, maybe this is the wrong forum for that.

    My digital camera was $70.

    Bedrugs suck. If you plan on getting a cap and hauling stuff have fun. Things are superhard to move. You have to actually get in the bed pick it up and move it no sliding. Trust me ive dealt with them in my line of work. Throw a bag of concret on there and try to slide it its not going anywhere gotta pick it up and move it again.

    Put it this way if i see a truck with a cap come in with a bedrug at work i run the other way

    I was at an auto detailer last weekend who quoted me $99 for tinting the two front windows. Can't tint as dark as the backones (on an LT) as WA state (and many others) won't allow that dark.

    what smikes said on price and tinting. depending on the state, they won't let you tint as dark as your rears already are. some will. some will let you go darker. as for price, i'd say anything in the $100 range is about right...you should look for a lifetime warranty against fading, blistering, bubbling, cracking, etc. they're out there and worth a couple extra bucks...

    minch...sorry to guilt ya. :) you'll like a spray-in, trust me. they look and work great. as for digital cameras, the one i use (which belongs to uncle sam) is a sony mavica. and it really kicks butt. but you're going to pay for it. all depends on the quality you're looking for...

    Been using them for about 13 years. Work great, sheet doesn't slide around. Price is cheap, got mine from Cabela's mail order, it was a Penta, for around $70. Put diamond plate front and tailgate covers on made by Better Built from same Cabela's. Work great with loading snowmobiles, dirtbikes, hauling gravel,....

    Can always do a spray in later.

    My experiences are that the spray in liners don't hold up well to carbide ski runners, and heavy metal dragging.... Plus I pull the rubber mat out when I wash, really easy,.....

    I guess I think of my truck more as a tool than a spiffy, nerf bared, .....

    On 99 Silverado's this was offered as an option. On the 2500's did it automatically come with the heavy duty trailering package? Can anybody tell me what Z85 is besides 36mm shocks and was it offered as an option 00.

    Nick i found mine in a jc penny catelog. Its a flourescent blue color but it does its job. I think officemax or office depot has a nice one for like $99 after a $50 rebate.

    Don't like the spay in liners either - Can't undo it if you don't like it --Too perminate!!

    Like the rubber mate idea and being able to take it out to wash bed etc.
    Have drop-in liner on current truck which was ok for hauling firewood over the years but its too slick for much else and don't need to protect the side walls from dings now.

    markbuck - thanks for that Cabela's tip - wouldn't have thought of them and was trying to figure out how to get the tailgate protector so--you say that's available as a separate item eh?
    Whats it made of, how's it attach??
    (I Like the current gate protector that came with the bed liner -attaches with screws into original tapped inspection holes- as it is hard and slick which is good for on the gate.)

    Don't like stick-on pad dealys either as suspect when the underneath metal gets to be 120 degrees the stickum might not hold too good.

    35% tint matches well with the factory tint on the rear windows. Paid $95 to do it. I have a bed rug, and for my use it works good-keeps things where you put them, looks great. I got mine for $315. If you plan on hauling lumber or other construction material go with a spray in liner.

    Yes all those pics on the picturetrail site were taken with it. Its a nice small light cheap camera. It serves its purpose for me

    I don't think you will eliminate film ever again with a $50 camera....but some can be just as good as 35MM

    #250....Yes my 2500 has the Firm Ride.....perhaps it is part of the towing package now?.......but I still thought it was seperate.....check a site like Carwizard.com or Kbb.com and see how they list it..

    it was sperate when i ordered my 2000 2500 in June of 99

    On the 2500 the Z85 is a separate option, and has a great ride. On the 2500HD Z85 is standard.

    anyway....Nope...hitch and Z85 are seperate.

    I did notice that for the HD's...climate control is not an option on an ext.cab....but is for a crew?....(at carwaizrd anyway)
