the dealer used the liquid that causes the the window and the wiper blades to dry up very quickly. The dryness causes the the wiper to chatter. Therefore, clean the window and wiper blades throughout again. Otherwise, change the wiper blade but also clean the window as well.
Tire pressure:
Because of my car weight I will leave my tires at 32PSI while the Manual recommended to used 30PSI. There are not much different between the 30PSI and the 35PSI. I hope everyone used as the Manual Recommended PSI.
I think that Hyundai has realized that they've got a winner....
Saw that Hyundai USA has sold over 19,000 Santa Fe's through May. I think that I've seen maybe a total of 5 of them on the road. Where are all these vehicles?
I checked every dealership in all surrounding states before I found mine. They are hard to come by in some places. I bought the 4wd,
LX Model with every possible option. If you really set your mind to it you can get a great price. I paid 23,000 total. Tax,license,& everything. It was listed at over 27,000. As for it being the poor man's SUV there wrong. I also own a 1999 Chevy Suburban 4wd and other than size my Santa Fe performs just as well and cost my about 15,000 less.

wife was driving the trusty SF. she turned out of a shopping center as another car was turning in. another speeding truck (83-88 ford ranger pickup) came up behind the car turning in and erratically swerved around the turning car and WHACKED our santa fe at about 30mph in the front driver's corner of the car totally destroying the headlight and foglight, pushing the front bumper over causing the underlying bumper support to rip through... it also ripped the grill from the hood which was also bend significantly enough to damage the passenger side fender. my wife's head hit the windshield pilar while my 16 months old was safe in his car seat enjoying the 180 spin that occured.
the driver of the other vehicle, a day laborer, fled the scene on foot leaving his day laborer partner in the passenger seat.
the truck's license plates and registration sticker did not match so we are trying to iron out who the truck belongs to. basically it is probably someone wit an unlicensed landscaping buisiness who is about to get thier savings wiped out by yours truly and a very competant personal injury lawyer.
my deductible is $1000 but i KNOW this is some major $$$$ damage. i am getting some photos developed now to post. the ranger broke pretty bad with oil or tranny fluid spilled all over the road and a flat front tire...
our truck... damaged.. but totally driveable.
my wife seems ok and is sleeping now with my son... i dont blame them.
the thing that sucks the most is that i was scheduled to drive to North Carolina from NYC to pick up my 8 year old daughter who i havent seem in about 3 years. now it looks like all that is on hold since my insurance only covers me for $25 a day for a rental. wonderful. maybe i can rent a skateboard for that much here in NYC.
photos to follow.
THANK GOD FOR SUCH A SAFE VEHICLE.
"THE WEBSITE IS http://WWW.4CAR.CO.UK
REVIEW ONE IS A SF ON ITS OWN ; GO TO TOP STORIES , ROAD TESTS , HYUNDAI , SANTA FE...........
REVIEW TWO IS A SF WITH OTHER 4WD CARS ; GO TO ON TV , DRIVEN , PREVIOUS WEEKS , 10 TH APRIL , DRIVEN 100 ........"
The connection is a little bit slow even u are using Cable, but be patient it is worth the wait! Because u can see our SF in action!
Then I think all we've to decide is "Will you gonna pay for something which you don't necessarily need?".
After I saw the videos in the link, I'm glad to see SF can handle well in most situations, its towing/traction power win the race.
If we don't go "severe off-road" which I believe is the stupidest thing to do in the whole world w/ nice SUV!, & don't turn corners in excessive speed in "CITY" road, why we had to pay more money to buy those high engineering features to enhance those unlikely encounter situations?
Personally I do think the safety (crash tests) is the no.1 thing to consider in normal city driving. SF has a very good ranking in safety features & body structure, I think for the asking price no other automaker in the world can match!
The price for the basic set just went up yesterday to $188.70, however, since I first contacted them about ordering last weekend, they gave me the lower price.
Hope to have the set in a week to 10 days. I probably will not install the pieces that go around the door air vents and dash side window air vents, (I think with those extra pieces it's a little too much), however, I'm looking forward to adding a little "wood" class to my truck.
Later!
Thank you for your help.
Now..about the ranting at the dealership. I had to do the old car haggle myself to get mine, and I told them after all was said and done, I did not want their dealership logo on my car. WHY NOT? well..dealership people, I work in adverstising and you have to pay to adv. so..if you want that plastic logo on my car..pay me to adv. for you. They looked at me and said..what do you mean? I told them..the logo can stay if you knock more off the price or give me $$$ per month . They wouldnt budge, which I really didnt want them to do, cause I hate those logo things anyways. So..they said when I came to pick it up..they would have it off. Well..when I was doing the final walk around of the car, there was the logo. I said..you can make check for the first months adv. fee out to me now. They said..wahat do you mean. I said..logo stays..pay me. Detail guy came out, hairdryer in hand..off went the logo.
So..rant till you get what YOU want. Tell them that if they dont sell you what you want, not what they want you to have, then tell them you are walking out the door, get up and head towards it. 99% of the time..they will run yah down and agree to your terms. They have to sell cars, not baby sit them on their lots. it cost them money to have them sitting on lots, and they loose additional sales by unsatisfied customers.
AHH....I feel much better now..going to go take my SFe for a walk now !!
Thank you very much for sharing accident story. I really like is because it does prove us how well Santa Fe was built. **Thank god! Your family is okay! Hope you can your SF back on the road with perfect condition soon***
Subzero1:
"A Mortal Combat name" -I used to play this game too. Anyway, you are dealing the the saleperson very well. Yes! Those add-on products are too expensive. Personally, I don't like dealer to add-on any products because I can add them mostly myself. **Dealer usually can add those products on look very nice but the price (ooohhh)...**
I appreciate your comments and advice, however I have no door to walk out of because I am dealing with a dealership that is out of state. Doing that would be kind of awkward on the phone
Thanks again.
on a good note, I have found another article that will make us proud of hyudai SantaFe again!
Unprecedented APEAL improvement
I bought my merlot GLS 2WD with ABS from Doug Mech at City Motors Hyundai in Michigan City, Indiana. They did a wonderful job in getting exactly what I wanted. I put $300 down when I first went in there (so that they knew I was serious), and they searched other dealerships to find exactly what I wanted. Within 2 weeks I had my SF - exactly how I wanted it. I had to pay MSRP, as all of the dealers I've called won't budge.
Before going to Michigan City, I tried working with the dealer in Mishawaka, but they were not willing to attempt a dealer trade even though they told me they would. They wanted me to take what they had and be happy
I imagine Michigan City is around 90 minutes from you. It was a 45 minute drive for me from South Bend. I can't guarantee you'll be as lucky as I was, but it might be worth a try. If you do put a deposit down, make sure you have them write a receipt that says that the deposit is refundable if they don't find what you want within say 6 to 8 weeks.
The other nice thing about buying it there, is that you'll only pay 5% sales tax. Good luck!
Call your insurance company on rental info. I too had to rent after a kid hit [and ran] my SF too. I'm in NJ and my insurance hooked me up with a new '01 Toyota Corolla. I can't complain. It's a new little car rides fine and does the job 'till mine gets fixed. At least you have the guys that hit your car...mine vanished
Thank you for sharing the report! That is probably the best report that I have ever read. I really like it. Showing Hyundai power to the Toyota match...
Tonyg6:
Sorry to hear that you have an accident problem too. Another Hyundai to Toyota again! Corolla? Interesting; wonder why not camry! Oh well! Hope you the best and share with use. Thank you.
Shellden1:
Wow! You get to paid at MSRP price; I paid almost $1000 above MSRP price. You got such a great deal. Anyway, I am still happy with what I have.
years, so the warranty doesnt really knock me off
my feet. I will keep a eye on this board over the years and see what people are saying about their SaFe,s 4-5 years from now until then its Honda or Toyota.
Expected for 2002 Santa Fe:
6. Possible LSD
LOL. what's LSD hung? I'm sure you didn't mean acid.
Not sure what you really mean (keep car for 10 years). I still see lots of old Hyundai car run on the street now-a-day. Most people buy Honda & Toyota because they paid for the money as well as they are willing to paid for good maintain. While most of Hyundai owner on old model does not really care much because they paid very less for the car. **Basically! What I am saying is that if you take good care of your car then the car will work for you. I see Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus car die in the street too**
My maintain record:
Two days ago my Santa Fe just reach 5040 miles and I went on do the Oil change! I used Castrol Full Synthetic Oil on my first oil change anyway. It is about $5 per quart and my Santa Fe take 4.74 quarts. In the meantime I went on and add the fuel injection cleaners liquid in the gas station when I fill-up as well. I have checked for other problem and there was not anything needed to maintain. The other thing I did check was the tire psi and I went on and pump all them at 32PSI (The Manual recommended 30psi but I used 32 because I have lots of accessories/parts/weight on my car plus I used to drive with 4 people in my car). I was planning to do the tires rotation but seem like the tires are perfectly in good condition. So I will do the tires rotation and balance on my next oil change. **This is just an example of how I take car of my car**
The air intake is under the engine compartment.
LSD:
LSD (Limited Slip Differential). LSD comes standard in the England. Basically work for the rear while Traction Control work for the front. I really like to have both. However, I only have TCS now but with the rear even work better.
I called back a dealership today that I had dealt with a week and a half ago. I talked to the same guy and he was very helpful (wonders never cease). He said they should have one by the end of the month. He didn't know the exact day yet but would let me know. We talked about price and he said MSRP on a Black GLS 2WD with ABS was $20,939. I told him that Edmunds MSRP was 20,339 and that was the price I was going to pay, no add-ons or anything else put on the car at the dealership. He asks me, "What is Edmunds?". UHHHHHHH HHHUUUUUHHH, right, you don't knoww what Edmunds is? Long story short, he faxed me a copy of the Bill of Sale with all the pertinent stuff, I signed it and faxed it back. He called me and got my credit card for the deposit and that's all folks! I'll have it by the end of the month, barring further complications. I sure am glad I don't have to do this everyday and it sure is a shame I have to drive 750 miles round trip just to pick it up because the dealership here isn't really a dealership-- it's a "stealership"
""Yes! The air intake was disappear right under the battery""! I saw it too. Someone in Santafeforum.com stated that the air intake was right under the engine compartment. Which I think it is very close to the oil filter. When I change the oil filter I saw this round ball; but I am not sure if that was the intake or out-take. Maybe it was just right under the battery where there is the intake "end". The problem is that I have the splash engine cover and then I have the front guard install with the bolts stuff too. Otherwise I can open them all to see it. The best was is that if someone have the Santa Fe without the splash engine cover then it is easy to see right below the battery.
have and are getting better in quality. I have only been hearing this lately so the verdict is still out for me. Keeping a good maitenance schedule is good but is not a cure for something that has low craftsmanship. Dont get me wrong it
will be great if Hyundai will someday be mentioned along with Honda or Toyota. I feel it will make them truly take a look at Hyundai. One other point to make I have read in posts farther back about engines just going dead and there are some posts
in the santa fe problems board about the paint
peeling off of the bumpers. It just makes me wonder.
subzereo1 glad that you found your sf the way you wanted it.
huskerfanssx4, Congradulations on your new gls.Good luck.
thall02 Take a look at hung web page at www.y2kcatalogs.com/santafe you can look at some wood kits. I like the chrome the best, with grey interior. I don`t like anything else.

Congratulation on your new purchase of the Santa Fe. Just to let you know that you have such a great deal for the Santa Fe. By the way, I lived in Lincoln, Nebraska when I was young too.
tm2001:
There are problem on the X5, RX300, Rav4, etc.. too. Every car have problem too not just Santa Fe. However, this is just a marginal percentage happen on such car. Good thing the Santa Fe have the problem discussion board. If you load up the Problem Discussion board for every other car you will get people respond on it too. **I don't have paint problem on my Santa Fe and engine problem; nor as most of the Santa Fe owners within this discussion board too**
Thall02:
I have just received the 36 pieces wood dash kit from edashkit.com yesterday. They went on and customized me 6 extra pieces just for me. I really like the color and they are 90-95% matches my current wood dash kit. I am not sure what color they send me either (very weird). However, I think all of the Burl Wood color are very nice and by the way I have gray interior too.
Along with the current models (which will continue in production), the new model will feature every accessory item made by any vendor from anywhere in the world.
With a gross weight (and we mean gross) of nearly 5,000 pounds, the new Santa Fe "HM" (for HungMobile) will MSRP at $32,500 and carry Hyundai's newly-enlarged, industry-leading, 25-year warranty (optional Fuel Cell not covered beyond 30 days in populated areas).
With practically too many features to actually document for litigation purposes, details will be available soon at your local Hyundai dealer.
In sum, Hyundai believes that the new Santa Fe HM is truly the "Best SUV Ever" simply because there is not a square inch of interior or exterior space in which to add any more accessories.
It is anticipated that waiting lists will develop across the country as many current Santa Fe owners will want to upgrade immediately.
The back biting and downgrading is not very pleasent for 98% of the Santa Fe owners who use this board for legitimate reasons.

Sorry to all real SF owners & visitors, for the troubles might caused by me to this forum!
did not say anything harsh about Hyundai. I simply laid out my opinion. Mr. Bill Tung replied to me that I think foolish? As a matter a fact in my post I said it is good to see Hyundai doing
better. I would imagine that someone could express
thier opinion in a nice way without someone stooping to name calling.
Please keep in mind that English is not his native tongue, and what he actually said may not be the same thing as what he thought he said.
