I saw some postings about splash guards on Santa Fe LX models. I have a GLS model and does anyone know if the GLS models should have the guard as standard equipment? I don't have one installed on my car.
Try to complaint to the dealer and they will or maybe install one for your Santa Fe for free. I know the LX would get it but GLS; I not sure but worth the try.
Any vehicle comes with splash guards as standard equipment. Or else the engine compartment gets dirty faster and you end up steam cleaning the engine once a year. As part of Hyundai 5 year BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty, you should complain and get the splash guard installed for free. Please read my message # 2396. Good luck!
On another note...
I am the proud owner of a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. As it has run flawlessy for 15,000 miles thus far, I am contemplating on replacing my other car, a 96 Jeep Cherokee with the santa fe. I need something with 4 wheel drive for the snow. However, I need to downgrade to the 4 cylinder though. The Jeep is too expensive on gas and I commute far with it. So by downgrading, I would be saving money. Now can the 4 cylinder engine be equipped with 4wd and if so, can that be in 5 spd as well? Thanks!
Not sure exactly if the 4 cylinder Santa Fe have the the 4/AWD system but definitely have the 5 speed Manual. It might be very hard to get the 4/AWD drive system on the 4 cylinder; I assume.
fax1:
I have not heard anyone complaint about the AC on the Santa Fe before especially to the idle jerking. There should be just a little tiny idle jerk but should not be very irritate as you mentioned. Nearly every car have the same problem on a little idle jerk when turn on the A/C but most rather luxury car you won't hear it because they cover up the hood and engine very well as well as my Santa Fe. I don't even hear or heard of this jerk when turn on my A/C. Perhaps the 4 cylinder might hear it a little. Seem like you might need to bring to the dealer to check the diagnostic.
fax1....When I drive with the a/c on, I can hear and feel occasionally a thump or noise coming from the engine compartment. That is just the compressor kicking on or off. Every car I owned did that. Now, making the car have a rough idle...Thats something to bring it in and have attention brought to
I would like to know if the current LX Model that comes with a Power Moonroof ALSO comes with WOOD TRIM and the AUTO START options. I have not seen or heard of any 2001 LX's that are currently available with a FACTORY Sunroof, FACTORY Wood Trim, and FACTORY Auto Start here in Massacusetts.
Have these extra FACTORY options just been introduced by Hyundai this month? Is this vehicle which they advertised in the newspaper come with these FACTORY options FROM THE HYUNDAI FACTORY? I am still waiting for my Santa Fe to come and it is a fully loaded LX, but WITHOUT the Moonroof, Wood Trim and Auto Start. I really don't care about the moonroof, but I wouldn't mind having the Wood Trim and the Auto Start in mine. The thing is that I would 100% want these options to be from the factory and not from the dealer.
I feel as if I am MISSING OUT on the Wood Trim and Auto Start FACTORY options if they are now standard factory installed options. I paid $24,646 for mine with the Bumper to Bumper 10 YR/100,000 Mile Warranty included.
I hope that someone here knows if ALL current LX's that come off the boat from Korea now have FACTORY Wood Trim and FACTORY Auto Start as a standard FACTORY feature even if they come with or without the moonroof. My dealer has not mentioned this to me. He has only told me that some of the LX's come with a FACTORY tow package only.
What's going on here and how is it that all of a sudden, the LX comes with these extra Factory installed options now?
thall: I installed a Pioneer radio in my Santa Fe. It is single DIN, not double, and it was a piece of cake. I wouldn't even think about cutting through a support bar!! Just stick in a regular one dude. If having a tape deck is that important to you, then install a tape unit & a cd changer.
BTW..I am in KY..he tried to sell me one !! Told him I had too long of a dire to their dealership and that I already owned one !
Front:
Rear:
about your real end collision... we had a front end collision and it took the body shop here in NYC all of 3 days to get all the parts they needed... and it was a lot.. the entire nose was replaced including some under the hood components.
you shouldnt have a problem.
chrome grille shell from HDK:
is this thing a direct bolt on replacement or just a double sided tape stick on shell? i am not a big fan of stick on stuff but reall want the chrome grille shell.
leather interior:
just put 1/2 down on and got a set date for the installation of my custom 2 tone leather interior.
they are going to use the lighter tan that matches the upper interior panels for the gathered seat inserts and the darker leather to match the dash of my sandstone sweetie.
does anyone know if i can order and install the heated seat parts or have the company doing my interior install it while they got everything apart? i am sure all the wiring is there.
and lastly.. once again... rims:
does anyone have any idea on the rim size for the SF... looking for comprehensive sizing to include backspace, offset, bolt pattern, rim width.
also... the guy at HDK tells me that the altezza tail lights for the SF are coming soon.. CAN'T WAIT!
hey hung... on your front grill guard... can the word fusion be removed from there? also, is it one piece and how much weight did it add to the front end? does it effect handling at all?
PS. just got back from a 1200 mile trip to north carolina and back... temperature there was 103 and the SF purred the whole way. our SF really survived that front end frame twisting collision with flying colors. (now the body shop owner is thinking about buying one after fixing and test driving mine. haha.
later all.
keith in NYC
The actual extended bumper to bumper warranty is about $500-$700 but dealer need to make a living. I guess you know what I mean.
I don't need it because most of my friends are auto mechanic and they even own the shop too. So therefore, I am not that worry about my Santa Fe break down. However, if you can get the warranty around the price I have listed above then that should be very very very good.
Chrome Grill:
I don't have the chrome grill but whether they are bolt or tape; it is still good for me. I have never have a problem with the tape now a day. Look at the emblem; I have not seen the emblem falling apart yet. It still like a death bolt to me.
Heated Seats:
Heated seats are selling at HDK too so call Sam and ask for it. If you buy more than one stuffs you might get a certain discount. Not bad worth the try to bargain sometime.
Rim:
As you see I don't have the chrome rim in my Santa Fe right now because I am waiting until the tires die/burn before I change to chrome rim. Best to wait in the future and change it beside I like the dealer chrome rim (17"). Anything more than 17" will like going to waste so much more for gas.
Front Grill Guard:
Yes! My front grill guard have the word fusion and NOT impossible to remove it because it is made out of hard alluminum/steel too. You can basically use to heavy metal saw cut and then remove but that would make it very ugly. There are plenty of different type of front guard you can get instead of the kind look like mine from HDK.
that's a link to the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations page to search for vehicle service bulletins. The Santa Fe comes up with 18 bulletins, but none of them are problem reports... they were mostly relating to errors in the service manual & testing procedures. I typed in another vehicle (a closer competitor to the santa fe) and came back with 20 bulletins, serveral of which were SERIOUS problems.
2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed stick
The NHTSA has a couple of logs on the 40 mph glitch, which if you read the other forums, is a wide known problem. I have had the problem addressed twice at my dealer and they have contacted HMA about it. I have also requested paper work from NHTSA to file a complaint. There is IMHO a MAJOR problem with the 40 mph glitch. It feels as if you are down shifiting when you get to 40mph. It can cause an accident, because you basiclly hesitate for a few seconds, and the other drivers could rear end you. Some people have stated its a timing belt problem, and if the belt breaks , it can cause serious problem and possibly cause an accident.
I have had it well documented to HMA and my dealer, and others have had the same problem from what I have heard via net and in person.
Some SF will have it..some wont. Some have been told its a timing belt issue, but HMA knows nothing of it.
Go to NHTSA and read under consumer complaints, its noted there.
HMA wont say its a problem. I am taking my SF in for 10,000 tune up on Wed. and they are to address it then. We will see !
In reallity you should almost never buy a brand new car because a 2-3 year old one will be a much better buy for the dollar. (I did purchase my first brand new car in years when I got the Sante Fe).
But back to the point. Don't do this. Enjoy your Camry, a fine quality car. Drive it till it drops dead in 8-10 years and use all the money you will save to start a family and invest for the future.
I drove my used BMW for almost 9 years (the car was 14 years old) before I finally gave it up. But I paid less than $9000 for that Bimmer when I purchased it used. Just food for thought.
I bought the fully loaded LX model with all the luxury options and with the extended bumper to bumper 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and I paid about $25,000 for everything.
This vehicle is better than the other overpriced SUV's that are currently being sold on the market today like the Lexus RX300, BMW or Mercedes. It is better built and costs less. I believe that the Santa Fe LX is a very high quality and a very good looking SUV with many luxury options for very decent money. If you want to buy a high quality SUV and get your money's worth, get the Santa Fe LX. It is one of the BEST QUALITY SUV's out there.
Hyundai will BEAT Toyota and Lexus with the EXCELLENT HIGH QUALITY production of the Santa Fe LX. This vehicle is AWESOME!!!! GREAT JOB HYUNDAI!!!! Keep up the good work.
Or if anyone else knows where the info on the Santa Fe rollover tests are , please post the site.
Anyway, I am in the market for a 2002 Santa Fe and have asked and answered questions before. However, I am hoping I can get a little help.
I am considering a relocation to Phoenix, AZ and was wondering in there is anyone on the list here that is from there that wouldn't mind answering some questions on email. My email is bmcadoo24@hotmail.com if anyone would like to respond and help me out thanks.
About the autostarter add-on, most starter add-on's activate by a second press of the lock button, sometimes requiring a channel expander. I've read that the Santa Fe's factory alarm can only be "armed" by the factory remote, and "disarmed" by the remote or turning the ignition key on for 30secs. So, if you were to add a complete alarm/remote start/keyless system, I guess you'd just tie into the doorlocks themselves, etc. leaving the factory system dormant. If anyone needs the wiring info for the Santa Fe, email me at tomgull@msn.com and I'll pass along a special URL (I can't post it). I still have to put my Sonata's dash back together from installing a Crimestopper LCD pager remote system (it's AWESOME!!) that I purchased from M&S Enterprises on Ebay, who've recently raised their price for the exact same system I bought. Anyone with questions about that pager alarm or starter, feel free to email me, also check out the Security Systems thread here on Edmunds. Many aftermarket alarms/remote starters have an extra output for disarming a factory system, however some factory alarms arm/disarm with the regular keyless doorlock pulse. But like I had read, I don't think you'll need to mess with a separate arm/disarm of the factory system, just don't use the remotes (unless the Sante Fe's system has passive arming).
As tot he car alarms and digital pagers ..etc..I would avoid they digital pager ones. Look at it this way..if your car isbroken into, and your inside a building or a store, how in the heck are you gonna get to the car before they leave. MOST break-ins take onle a few sec. to a min to get in to and take what they want.
roof rack rubber strips changed due to a recall.
Any info would be greatly appeciated. Thanks.
I guess I deserve someone trying to get my Sonata, since the driver's kickpanel's been off for about a month, with various wires hanging down out of it. Still, even though I just need to tidy up the wires and replace that panel, I figured that my car would be relatively safe, since my flashing superbright Varad LED was clearly visible and the system fully functional, except for fine-tuning the shock sensor. Well, for whatever reason last night I tossed and turned and just couldn't go to sleep. About 2:50am my LCD pager remote started going crazy. The sad thing is that if it had displayed a shock sensor violation, I probably would've taken my time to check on it, however, the display showed a Door Trigger/Door Open Violation, which immediately put me into a state of shock and disbelief, thinking it had to be a stray signal or malfunction. I quickly threw on some pants and flip-flops and headed out the door. Between my door and the building's front door, I mistakenly disarmed the system, trying to shut off the beeping of the remote, rather than press the remote's reset/clear button. I immediately realized this, so I quickly pressed the arm/disarm button a few times, making sure it stayed on an armed status. I left out the front door of my condo building, took about 10 steps, then noticed an old Toyota mini-van (riff-raff resident of same condo complex) parked in the middle of the street near my Sonata, with it's lights off, rather than where I usually see it, parked 2-3 spaces away from mine. As soon I saw the van, the driver floored it, so I assume the engine had been running. Now, this guy lives on the further end of where my car was parked, and he certainly was not near his residence, rather he was in a great position as a look-out for anyone coming from my direction. If it hadn't been for the suspicious behavior of the guy/van sitting in the middle of the street with his lights off, then hitting the gas as soon as I came out at a fast walk, I probably would've thought the alarm system was malfunctioning or my pager received a stray signal. Anyhow, while checking out my car, I adjusted the shock sensor to be extra sensitive (the LED flashes w/sensor to help you adjust it) and took "The Club" out of the trunk and put it on the steering wheel (yes, I know the Club's not that effective). My car is fine and showed no signs of tampering, but I don't know if the siren even sounded, since it was parked a ways from my condo unit. I've taken down the guy's license plate number (he parked across from me this morning when I went to work) and am reporting the incident to the property manager, in case any similar events happen in the future, but I'm sure glad I got that pager remote. Like I said, if it had been a shock sensor violation, I probably wouldn't have taken it seriously, but a Door Trigger would either have to be the real deal or a serious malfunction.
The paint job on the vehicle's steel door panel is unharmed. There are no chips or dings on the Steel door panel. The chips/ding are only on the plastic silver door trim panel
I called my dealer where I bought the vehicle and complained and they told me that they wanted their body shop to take a look at it. I Do Not want to repaint the whole plastic trim panel where it was hit by the door because the chip is not a "long scratch". The chip is about the size of a person's fingernail on the pinky finger. BUT It is Very Noticeable when you look down at it. The other chip on the same panel is even smaller. The chips have exposed the black color of the trim panel and are very noticeable.
I would like to know if anybody here who owns the Santa Fe has had the problem of having chips on the plastic trim silver door panels from people opening their doors on them. I would also like to know what I can do to fix the chips without making the Plastic trim door panel look bad. I want to make the chips "Unoticeable". What do you recommend I do? Do you think touching it up with touch up paint will make it unoticeable?
Another problem that I noticed is that there is a very small speck of what looks like rust on the edge of the door between the front right passenger door and the front right fender. I noticed that it is a dark brownish/orange color and that it is on the paint. It does not come off but it is in the paint. I am positive that it is rust. It is about 2 to 3 millimeters long and is on the area on the edge of the door panel where the front right door panel separates from the front right fender. It is noticeable only if you look between the door panel and front fender gap. I do not want the whole door panel repainted. I would like to know if it is a good idea just to touch it up with Nordic White Paint. The color of my vehicle is Nordic White. Please tell me if the door panel will be okay if I just touch up the area with paint.
if the dealership will repaint, go for it.
i have inquired aobut the same piece, i had a run in with shopping cart, scratched and slight gouge on it.
to replace the panle, UNPAINTED , was $280.00, with the paint job at $130.00
Had two other estimates, just repainted and filling gouge, $180--to $100.00
There is a slight gouge in the plastic silver door panel from whoever opened their door onto it, but it is not really noticeable. The only noticeable part is the Black area where the paint scraped/chipped off. I ordered touch-up paint and will touch it up. If I try to let the dealer to repaint it, the panel might not come out the same color and match the other panels on the other door. Also, when a body shop starts taking off plastic mouldings and panels like this one which are factory installed, they do not re-attach themselves properly after being taken off. They tend to be a loose fit when put back on the vehicle. I do not want the body shop to glue them on either. If the area where the damage was done was huge, then I would want to replace the whole panel with a new one. The damaged area is only in a "SPOT" area no larger than 1/4" large. That's about the amount of area where the paint has been scraped/chipped off from the door being opened on the panel. I think that 2 to 3 coats of touch-up paint will be good enough and wouldn't be that noticeable. The vehicle is still a virgin new car and I do not want to bring it to the body shop for them to ruin it. If the damage on the panel were a long scrape or a long scratch, then I would want to replace the whole panel because touch-up paint would not look good and it would be noticeable because of the larger exposed area of damage done to the panel by the scratch/scrape.
Does this sound logical or what? Please give me your input on this subject.
I owuld strogly encourage you to allow their body shop to repaint it if it were bigger. Do the touch up paint and see if it lasts, make sure you 'build" layers, dont blob it or dab it on. Apply layers, with drying time in between them. If it lasts, fine..if it doenst, you can repaint.
They wont "glue" the panel on, they will use 3M tape, thats what on it now, and there are 2 or 3 pins holding it on the door. You can view these panels in detail at the Hyundai tech website.
