    Hi,
I saw some postings about splash guards on Santa Fe LX models. I have a GLS model and does anyone know if the GLS models should have the guard as standard equipment? I don't have one installed on my car.
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
    Splash Guard:
Try to complaint to the dealer and they will or maybe install one for your Santa Fe for free. I know the LX would get it but GLS; I not sure but worth the try.

    To Mike112 and all.
Any vehicle comes with splash guards as standard equipment. Or else the engine compartment gets dirty faster and you end up steam cleaning the engine once a year. As part of Hyundai 5 year BUMPER TO BUMPER warranty, you should complain and get the splash guard installed for free. Please read my message # 2396. Good luck!

Don't wax your cars too much...You'll get wax build up and it will start doing the reverse of what wax is suppose to do: It will start to dull your paint. I usually do mine once a month, cause it rains a lot and there is a bit of an acid rain problem here in NJ. So it helps protect better. I have a Black Hyundai Elantra. For waxing, I have tried it all. What I recommend is Meguiar's polish. After that, put on Meguiar's carnuba wax. This is the best stuff out on the market right now. In between waxes, I put on Armor all Paint protectant and booster. Gives it that just waxed look yet no build-up! I have a floor cabinet and 4 shelves full of car supplies. Im a detailer and detail cars in my spare time, (usually fridays). Years of trying different products and this is what has worked the best for me!

    On another note...

I am the proud owner of a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. As it has run flawlessy for 15,000 miles thus far, I am contemplating on replacing my other car, a 96 Jeep Cherokee with the santa fe. I need something with 4 wheel drive for the snow. However, I need to downgrade to the 4 cylinder though. The Jeep is too expensive on gas and I commute far with it. So by downgrading, I would be saving money. Now can the 4 cylinder engine be equipped with 4wd and if so, can that be in 5 spd as well? Thanks!

As the proud owner of a 2001 santa fe..i have a couple questions...when i turn on the ac i hear a kinda whistling or humming noise from the engine compartment..and at an idle it has a very rough idle..i have a 4cyl 5speed fwd...has anyone else experienced these problems or is it just me..im pretty car literate so i decided i had a dirty injector...with only 1400 miles i didnt think that possible..but i added a bottle of injector cleaner with the last fill up..it seemed to correct the problem for a few miles..then it went right back to what it was doing..has anyone else had this problem..and has anyone else had "jittery" locks?
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
    elantra00:
Not sure exactly if the 4 cylinder Santa Fe have the the 4/AWD system but definitely have the 5 speed Manual. It might be very hard to get the 4/AWD drive system on the 4 cylinder; I assume.

    fax1:
I have not heard anyone complaint about the AC on the Santa Fe before especially to the idle jerking. There should be just a little tiny idle jerk but should not be very irritate as you mentioned. Nearly every car have the same problem on a little idle jerk when turn on the A/C but most rather luxury car you won't hear it because they cover up the hood and engine very well as well as my Santa Fe. I don't even hear or heard of this jerk when turn on my A/C. Perhaps the 4 cylinder might hear it a little. Seem like you might need to bring to the dealer to check the diagnostic.
  • elantra00elantra00 Member Posts: 225
I thought so. I knew that the 4 cylinder had the 5 spd. I was just wondering if the 4wd system can be equipped with the 4 cyclinder engine and if so, can that come with a 5 spd w/ 4wd.

fax1....When I drive with the a/c on, I can hear and feel occasionally a thump or noise coming from the engine compartment. That is just the compressor kicking on or off. Every car I owned did that. Now, making the car have a rough idle...Thats something to bring it in and have attention brought to

I just opened today's Boston Herald Newspaper and in the automobile section, Herb Connolly Hyundai in Framingham, Massachusetts was advertising BRAND NEW 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe LX's with Leather, Heated Seats, Auto Start, Wood Trim and Power Moonroof for $24,520 after a $2000 rebate. He claims that he's got 18 of these vehicles with these options available at this price in the ad.
I would like to know if the current LX Model that comes with a Power Moonroof ALSO comes with WOOD TRIM and the AUTO START options. I have not seen or heard of any 2001 LX's that are currently available with a FACTORY Sunroof, FACTORY Wood Trim, and FACTORY Auto Start here in Massacusetts.
Have these extra FACTORY options just been introduced by Hyundai this month? Is this vehicle which they advertised in the newspaper come with these FACTORY options FROM THE HYUNDAI FACTORY? I am still waiting for my Santa Fe to come and it is a fully loaded LX, but WITHOUT the Moonroof, Wood Trim and Auto Start. I really don't care about the moonroof, but I wouldn't mind having the Wood Trim and the Auto Start in mine. The thing is that I would 100% want these options to be from the factory and not from the dealer.
I feel as if I am MISSING OUT on the Wood Trim and Auto Start FACTORY options if they are now standard factory installed options. I paid $24,646 for mine with the Bumper to Bumper 10 YR/100,000 Mile Warranty included.
I hope that someone here knows if ALL current LX's that come off the boat from Korea now have FACTORY Wood Trim and FACTORY Auto Start as a standard FACTORY feature even if they come with or without the moonroof. My dealer has not mentioned this to me. He has only told me that some of the LX's come with a FACTORY tow package only.
What's going on here and how is it that all of a sudden, the LX comes with these extra Factory installed options now?

I need help. My radio just stopped working and I have to replace it. My dealer will replace it with the same system H260. I want to get a better system with more power. The H260 has 20W per channel. I also want a cassette player with the CD player. I bought a JVC from Circuit City, but it would not fit into the dash. With the dash off, there is a double DIN size opening but there is a support bar that does not allow the aftermarket system to fit. Does anyone have an upgraded stereo system in thier Santa Fe? If so, what brand and model do you have? Circuit City told me that there was not any double DIN system that would fit into the Santa Fe. Any help or advise would be appreciated.

fax: It could very well be the timing belt. I was having INTERMITTANT problems with the engine running rough & poor gas mileage, and it was ocassionally not shifting right. I posted these problems here, and everyone said timing belt doesn't cause intermittant problems. So, I waited till it was oil change time. I took it into the dealer this week for an oil change & to have these problems looked at. WELL.... it WAS the timing belt. It had jumped 1 tooth. They corrected that, and installed the new cover. The car runs smooth as silk now, and it's shifting properly & everything.

thall: I installed a Pioneer radio in my Santa Fe. It is single DIN, not double, and it was a piece of cake. I wouldn't even think about cutting through a support bar!! Just stick in a regular one dude. If having a tape deck is that important to you, then install a tape unit & a cd changer.

Just talked to your boys at Heb Connolly. Those moon roofs and wood trims are NOT factory installed. The perswon I spoke with told me that hadd but two sold, so dont rush to their dealership to see all 18 on the lot. He dis say that they were unloading two off the truck as we spoke, so at least two are there for a few hrs. !!
BTW..I am in KY..he tried to sell me one !! Told him I had too long of a dire to their dealership and that I already owned one !

Hi all, just picked up my new fully loaded merlot LX and got to drive it 25 miles before the wife disappeared with it. (hope the car comes back). I noticed on the ride home a lot of wind noise on the roof. Assume it's the roof rack rails. Does anyone else have this problem or a fix? Also I read somewhere about a roof rack key. I did not get one, is there such a thing.
  • leevanleevan Member Posts: 8
Murrays98, Congratulations on your new Santa Fe. Yes, there is a key for your roof rack crossrails. Check your glove box, and the storage bin under the front passenger seat. If it's in neither, call your dealership. You will need it to move the crossrails. The crossrails could also be the source of your wind noise. They are shaped like an airplane wing. Make sure they are on, with the more pointed side facing towards the back. Also, position the front one in between the front and back door, and the back one just behind the back door. Hope this helps.

Just got my Santa Fe LX after 6 months of research! Liked it better than the Toyota Highlander (although perhaps the Toyota is a step up??), I liked it much better than all the similar comps (ford, mazda, etc.). Questions. The finance guy offered me the Hyundai extended warranty for $659. This sounds like a good deal to me but is it? Since the powertrain is up to 10 years anyway. I never buy extended warrantees on anything but something tells me to do this one. Would you guys that have an opinion on this speak up or email me at guynlanow@aol.com. Also, I got the 2wLX with Luxury package, antilock brakes, stereo/cassette, roof rack cross rails...what is the going rate on this vehicle? Didn't really want the heated seats as I live in Southern Cal but most i saw had it. Thanks for any help and or advice!
  • gtgtcobragtgtcobra Member Posts: 268
I just bought the LX model Fully Loaded and I purchased the extended warranty for $1000 with it. It is worth it. The extended warranty is good for 10 years/100,000 miles and it is BUMPER TO BUMPER. This means that it covers more things than the powertrain and engine. It covers more components in your vehicle. Believe me, if you get this warranty you will save money in the long run. For example, if your heater core goes, you will have to spend $500 to $600 to get it replaced. As your vehicle gets more miles on it, things can start going. The extended bumper to bumper warranty will cover everything that goes which is not wear and tear related. Hyundai will fix these things free of charge if you have the extended bumper to bumper warranty. Don't be cheap. Get the Warranty. It will give you some piece of mind for 10 years/ 100,000 miles - whichever comes first.

We just purchased a GLS - AWD in Ohio, and the extended bumper-to-bumper warranty in the amount of $914 and it only was for 6 years/100k. We were told that because of the AWD option that was all that was offered. The full 10/100 was for FWD only ( which I believe is only available on the 4 cyl. model ). If anyone else on this board knows any different information, I would be interested in hearing it. If true I'll have to call the dealership back and [non-permissible content removed].

    parts supply:
about your real end collision... we had a front end collision and it took the body shop here in NYC all of 3 days to get all the parts they needed... and it was a lot.. the entire nose was replaced including some under the hood components.

    you shouldnt have a problem.

    chrome grille shell from HDK:
is this thing a direct bolt on replacement or just a double sided tape stick on shell? i am not a big fan of stick on stuff but reall want the chrome grille shell.

    leather interior:
just put 1/2 down on and got a set date for the installation of my custom 2 tone leather interior.
they are going to use the lighter tan that matches the upper interior panels for the gathered seat inserts and the darker leather to match the dash of my sandstone sweetie.

does anyone know if i can order and install the heated seat parts or have the company doing my interior install it while they got everything apart? i am sure all the wiring is there.

    and lastly.. once again... rims:
does anyone have any idea on the rim size for the SF... looking for comprehensive sizing to include backspace, offset, bolt pattern, rim width.

also... the guy at HDK tells me that the altezza tail lights for the SF are coming soon.. CAN'T WAIT!

hey hung... on your front grill guard... can the word fusion be removed from there? also, is it one piece and how much weight did it add to the front end? does it effect handling at all?

PS. just got back from a 1200 mile trip to north carolina and back... temperature there was 103 and the SF purred the whole way. our SF really survived that front end frame twisting collision with flying colors. (now the body shop owner is thinking about buying one after fixing and test driving mine. haha.

    later all.

gtgtcobra, thanks for the advice. I appreciate the time people take to help each other. I am leaning more towards getting the extended warrantee now because all I would need is two semi-major repairs and it would pay for itself. But do we really expect any semi-major repairs between 50,000 and 100,000 miles. Don't most things start going bad after 100,000. I am so anal about decisions like this. Anyone else want to chirp in? Again, he offered it to me for $659. Thanks y'all.

    Extended warranty:
The actual extended bumper to bumper warranty is about $500-$700 but dealer need to make a living. I guess you know what I mean.
I don't need it because most of my friends are auto mechanic and they even own the shop too. So therefore, I am not that worry about my Santa Fe break down. However, if you can get the warranty around the price I have listed above then that should be very very very good.

    Chrome Grill:
I don't have the chrome grill but whether they are bolt or tape; it is still good for me. I have never have a problem with the tape now a day. Look at the emblem; I have not seen the emblem falling apart yet. It still like a death bolt to me.

    Heated Seats:
Heated seats are selling at HDK too so call Sam and ask for it. If you buy more than one stuffs you might get a certain discount. Not bad worth the try to bargain sometime.

    Rim:
As you see I don't have the chrome rim in my Santa Fe right now because I am waiting until the tires die/burn before I change to chrome rim. Best to wait in the future and change it beside I like the dealer chrome rim (17"). Anything more than 17" will like going to waste so much more for gas.

    Front Grill Guard:
Yes! My front grill guard have the word fusion and NOT impossible to remove it because it is made out of hard alluminum/steel too. You can basically use to heavy metal saw cut and then remove but that would make it very ugly. There are plenty of different type of front guard you can get instead of the kind look like mine from HDK.

Hello, this is my first time posting. My problem is I recently purchased a 2001 Toyota Camry. I have about 3500 miles on it. It's black in color, with some extras, pretty slick. The thing is, I really wanted an SUV, so even though I had just brought a camry, I went and test drove a Santa Fe and Mazda Tribute. I fell in love with the Santa Fe! I never thought I would be interested in a Hyundai, but my husband thinks I'm crazy for considering purchasing the Santa Fe and getting rid of the camry! The Santa Fe has a smooth ride, lots of room, and it's right in my price range. I forgot all about the Mazda Tribute once I test drove the Santa Fe. I brought the camry for quality, room, and high resale value. My husband and I are trying to start a family, so I thought the camry was a good choice. I could just strangle myself for not looking into these SUV's before hand. Could you guys tell me or give your advice if you think the switch would be worth it?
  • hung0820hung0820 Member Posts: 426
dlb19573: Only if you can get the price of the Camry back to at close as the point when you bought it. For example: let's say if you bought the camry at $25k and if you can sell it for $24k then I think it is worth it if you want to get the Santa Fe. However, resale the Camry for $22-$21k then you have to think twice. I have a family with 2 kids and I only want SUV instead of those low family car because it is much safety when you cause in an accident. As you know most likely there are more SUVs on the road now-a-day and most likely you could hit another SUV. What I am saying is that and SUV impact with SUV better than the SUV impact with the family car (camry). Beside that the SUV; you can do much more such as doing light-off-road; snow, camping, sand, plus more cargo space, etc...

that's a link to the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations page to search for vehicle service bulletins. The Santa Fe comes up with 18 bulletins, but none of them are problem reports... they were mostly relating to errors in the service manual & testing procedures. I typed in another vehicle (a closer competitor to the santa fe) and came back with 20 bulletins, serveral of which were SERIOUS problems.

I would highly recommend www.crutchfield.com as the best site to find and order auto stereo equipment. If you are at all handy in DYI type activities, this company is the best. Not only, IMHO, do they provide some of the best prices I've ever found (even free shipping), but their install kits for ALL ordered auto sytems come with vehicle-specific step-by-step instructions, picture guides, et.al. When you place orders, they contact you if they, after reviewing your equipment selections, find an issue with the match of your selection with thevehicle you own. They have outstanding customer support and can talk you thru any problems you may have. BTW, I'm not an employee, or getting paid royalties. I have used them for years for everything from car audio to home theater! I'll bet they have an answer to your question re: double DIN cavity and support bar intrusion on your SF.
  • georgefarmergeorgefarmer Member Posts: 98
I think the highway safety people are doing the rool over factor for various SUV's I would like to see it for the Santa fe AWD. The wide stance, lower vehicle height, less ground clearance with the extra 400lbs under it for the AWD system (thats like the weight of a refrigerator under there or a sailboat keel) all will give it a very low chance of rollover for an SUV. rollover.
  • elantra00elantra00 Member Posts: 225
Out of all the SUVs they tested, the Santa Fe got the best ratings out of all of them to be the least likely to roll over. As georgefarmer said, the santa fe has less groundclearance, being lower to the ground and is wider. These are the key components to keeping the car planted on the ground. The problem with SUVS: High center of gravity and short wheel base. The Santa Fe did a good job in making that problem nonexistent

truck! Wasn't there some humorous posts here a couple weeks ago referring to the Santa Fe as their "truck"? No kidding, though. When you look at a picture of it the Santa Fe looks more solidly hunkered down than a Ford Explorer. I don't know about you guys but Ford's got some serious rebuilding to do. Oh, that's right-it's Firestone's fault! Enjoy your Santa Fe's!

    Bill:
The NHTSA has a couple of logs on the 40 mph glitch, which if you read the other forums, is a wide known problem. I have had the problem addressed twice at my dealer and they have contacted HMA about it. I have also requested paper work from NHTSA to file a complaint. There is IMHO a MAJOR problem with the 40 mph glitch. It feels as if you are down shifiting when you get to 40mph. It can cause an accident, because you basiclly hesitate for a few seconds, and the other drivers could rear end you. Some people have stated its a timing belt problem, and if the belt breaks , it can cause serious problem and possibly cause an accident.

I am in upstate NY and am interested in a Santa Fe for this upcoming winter. I understand the 2002's are coming out in October, and wondered if anyone has any info about them versus the 2001 models. Is it even possible to find a 2001 LX Merlot at this late date? If I ordered a 2002 whenever they can start ordering, any thought on how long of a wait it would be?
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
teh 40 mph glitch as it can be called, is when you have a SF, mainly a 4 cyl. and get up to speed of 40 mph, it has a slight hesitation, like a hiccup, stutter, a GLITCH !
I have had it well documented to HMA and my dealer, and others have had the same problem from what I have heard via net and in person.
Some SF will have it..some wont. Some have been told its a timing belt issue, but HMA knows nothing of it.
Go to NHTSA and read under consumer complaints, its noted there.
HMA wont say its a problem. I am taking my SF in for 10,000 tune up on Wed. and they are to address it then. We will see !

Selling any 2001 car you just purchased in order to purchase another NEW auto is, in a word...INSANE. No matter what the cars in question are it is financially speaking, a terrible idea. You will not get the money back on your Camry because any new car depreciates several thousand dollars the moment you drive it off the lot.

In reallity you should almost never buy a brand new car because a 2-3 year old one will be a much better buy for the dollar. (I did purchase my first brand new car in years when I got the Sante Fe).

But back to the point. Don't do this. Enjoy your Camry, a fine quality car. Drive it till it drops dead in 8-10 years and use all the money you will save to start a family and invest for the future.

I drove my used BMW for almost 9 years (the car was 14 years old) before I finally gave it up. But I paid less than $9000 for that Bimmer when I purchased it used. Just food for thought.

I just got delivery of my brand new Nordic White 2001 Santa Fe LX. I got to tell you all, this vehicle is one of the HIGHEST QUALITY and best built SUV's around. The interior of the vehicle is SOLID! The Santa Fe has no sqeaks, rattles or creaks when you drive it. It's a very quiet vehicle on the road. It is also very ergonomically built and is very comfortable and roomy and has very user friendly controls. The exterior of the vehicle looks beautiful and is also VERY SOLID. The interior/exterior build quality and the fit and the finish are EXCELLENT!! The Santa Fe drives like a limosine. Its ride is VERY SMOOTH and VERY QUIET. It has good pickup and excellent handling.
I bought the fully loaded LX model with all the luxury options and with the extended bumper to bumper 10 year/100,000 mile warranty and I paid about $25,000 for everything.
This vehicle is better than the other overpriced SUV's that are currently being sold on the market today like the Lexus RX300, BMW or Mercedes. It is better built and costs less. I believe that the Santa Fe LX is a very high quality and a very good looking SUV with many luxury options for very decent money. If you want to buy a high quality SUV and get your money's worth, get the Santa Fe LX. It is one of the BEST QUALITY SUV's out there.
Hyundai will BEAT Toyota and Lexus with the EXCELLENT HIGH QUALITY production of the Santa Fe LX. This vehicle is AWESOME!!!! GREAT JOB HYUNDAI!!!! Keep up the good work.

Where did you get the rollover ratings for the Santa Fe, I went to the national highway safety institute site and there were rollover ratings for all suv's except the santa fe. Please post the site you saw the info so we can check it out.

Or if anyone else knows where the info on the Santa Fe rollover tests are , please post the site.

I have a GLS V-6 FWD which apparently has a standard type alarm. My boyfriend took it in to have an auto-starter put in but the guy told him he couldn't do it with the alarm. This really isn't much of an alarm. I don't have to set it, but if you use the remote to lock the doors then use the key to unlock them, an alarm sounds. Way weird if ya ask me. Was wondering if anyone else was able to install the after-market auto starter. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Just for those reading...I bought my SF in January of 2001. I have almost 15,000 miles on it already. I LOVE this truck! Can't say enough about it. But most of you already know what I mean. Thanks for all the helpful info here.

I just got finished installing a Headlight Reminder buzzer on my aunt's GL, which apparently will leave the parking lights on after you turn the ignition off (same as '99-'00 Sonata). I used the 3M brand kit available at Walmart for $7. Does anyone else's Santa Fe leave the parking lights on? The kit doesn't work if you wire it according to the instructions. If anyone's interested, I can post a pic with correct wiring here.

About the autostarter add-on, most starter add-on's activate by a second press of the lock button, sometimes requiring a channel expander. I've read that the Santa Fe's factory alarm can only be "armed" by the factory remote, and "disarmed" by the remote or turning the ignition key on for 30secs. So, if you were to add a complete alarm/remote start/keyless system, I guess you'd just tie into the doorlocks themselves, etc. leaving the factory system dormant. If anyone needs the wiring info for the Santa Fe, email me at tomgull@msn.com and I'll pass along a special URL (I can't post it). I still have to put my Sonata's dash back together from installing a Crimestopper LCD pager remote system (it's AWESOME!!) that I purchased from M&S Enterprises on Ebay, who've recently raised their price for the exact same system I bought. Anyone with questions about that pager alarm or starter, feel free to email me, also check out the Security Systems thread here on Edmunds. Many aftermarket alarms/remote starters have an extra output for disarming a factory system, however some factory alarms arm/disarm with the regular keyless doorlock pulse. But like I had read, I don't think you'll need to mess with a separate arm/disarm of the factory system, just don't use the remotes (unless the Sante Fe's system has passive arming).

If you turn the ignition key cylinder to OFF position AND open the door, the parking and tail lamps will be off. To by-pass this function, turn the headlamp SW off and turn it back on. I would uninstall that buzzer(put everything back to original condition) and get a refund.
  • wales1wales1 Member Posts: 90
If you have your lights on, and you open the door, they automaticly shut off. Why would you want to leave them on after you turn the car off? Doesnt make sense to me to do that. PLUS..you iwll have everyone coming up to you saying..you left your lights on..or paged in the store..the owner of a SF left their lights on..
As tot he car alarms and digital pagers ..etc..I would avoid they digital pager ones. Look at it this way..if your car isbroken into, and your inside a building or a store, how in the heck are you gonna get to the car before they leave. MOST break-ins take onle a few sec. to a min to get in to and take what they want.

roof rack rubber strips changed due to a recall.
Any info would be greatly appeciated. Thanks.

If you live in an apartment or any other place with a fair amount of riff-raff and undesirables, I highly recommend a pager alarm, or pager/monitor add-on, keeping it near your bed:

I guess I deserve someone trying to get my Sonata, since the driver's kickpanel's been off for about a month, with various wires hanging down out of it. Still, even though I just need to tidy up the wires and replace that panel, I figured that my car would be relatively safe, since my flashing superbright Varad LED was clearly visible and the system fully functional, except for fine-tuning the shock sensor. Well, for whatever reason last night I tossed and turned and just couldn't go to sleep. About 2:50am my LCD pager remote started going crazy. The sad thing is that if it had displayed a shock sensor violation, I probably would've taken my time to check on it, however, the display showed a Door Trigger/Door Open Violation, which immediately put me into a state of shock and disbelief, thinking it had to be a stray signal or malfunction. I quickly threw on some pants and flip-flops and headed out the door. Between my door and the building's front door, I mistakenly disarmed the system, trying to shut off the beeping of the remote, rather than press the remote's reset/clear button. I immediately realized this, so I quickly pressed the arm/disarm button a few times, making sure it stayed on an armed status. I left out the front door of my condo building, took about 10 steps, then noticed an old Toyota mini-van (riff-raff resident of same condo complex) parked in the middle of the street near my Sonata, with it's lights off, rather than where I usually see it, parked 2-3 spaces away from mine. As soon I saw the van, the driver floored it, so I assume the engine had been running. Now, this guy lives on the further end of where my car was parked, and he certainly was not near his residence, rather he was in a great position as a look-out for anyone coming from my direction. If it hadn't been for the suspicious behavior of the guy/van sitting in the middle of the street with his lights off, then hitting the gas as soon as I came out at a fast walk, I probably would've thought the alarm system was malfunctioning or my pager received a stray signal. Anyhow, while checking out my car, I adjusted the shock sensor to be extra sensitive (the LED flashes w/sensor to help you adjust it) and took "The Club" out of the trunk and put it on the steering wheel (yes, I know the Club's not that effective). My car is fine and showed no signs of tampering, but I don't know if the siren even sounded, since it was parked a ways from my condo unit. I've taken down the guy's license plate number (he parked across from me this morning when I went to work) and am reporting the incident to the property manager, in case any similar events happen in the future, but I'm sure glad I got that pager remote. Like I said, if it had been a shock sensor violation, I probably wouldn't have taken it seriously, but a Door Trigger would either have to be the real deal or a serious malfunction.

That reminds me, that I had checked the lights when my aunt first bought her GL back in December, and they went off. I checked them again when I was installing the bug deflector a few nights ago and was surprised that they could be turned on without any chime or buzzer warning. Either way, the buzzer came off my Sonata (replaced it with a Radio Shack one), and easily hooks into the fusebox, so I'm going to recommend that she just leave it attached for now. You never know when the reminder might come in handy.

What I was trying to say was that you do NOT need a reminder buzzer since the parking and tail lamps are turned off automatically.

I just got my 2001 Santa Fe LX 3 days ago and I just noticed that the front passenger door's Plastic Silver colored Trim Panel has a ding in it. There is also a chip on it on a separate area on the same trim panel. The ding was caused at the dealership or during shipping. It seems like someone opened a car door on it and it hit the bottom plastic silver trim panel of the front passenger door of my vehicle. The paint has chipped off the panel and there is a black exposed area. There is also a chip in a separate area on the same silver trim panel.
The paint job on the vehicle's steel door panel is unharmed. There are no chips or dings on the Steel door panel. The chips/ding are only on the plastic silver door trim panel
I called my dealer where I bought the vehicle and complained and they told me that they wanted their body shop to take a look at it. I Do Not want to repaint the whole plastic trim panel where it was hit by the door because the chip is not a "long scratch". The chip is about the size of a person's fingernail on the pinky finger. BUT It is Very Noticeable when you look down at it. The other chip on the same panel is even smaller. The chips have exposed the black color of the trim panel and are very noticeable.
I would like to know if anybody here who owns the Santa Fe has had the problem of having chips on the plastic trim silver door panels from people opening their doors on them. I would also like to know what I can do to fix the chips without making the Plastic trim door panel look bad. I want to make the chips "Unoticeable". What do you recommend I do? Do you think touching it up with touch up paint will make it unoticeable?
Another problem that I noticed is that there is a very small speck of what looks like rust on the edge of the door between the front right passenger door and the front right fender. I noticed that it is a dark brownish/orange color and that it is on the paint. It does not come off but it is in the paint. I am positive that it is rust. It is about 2 to 3 millimeters long and is on the area on the edge of the door panel where the front right door panel separates from the front right fender. It is noticeable only if you look between the door panel and front fender gap. I do not want the whole door panel repainted. I would like to know if it is a good idea just to touch it up with Nordic White Paint. The color of my vehicle is Nordic White. Please tell me if the door panel will be okay if I just touch up the area with paint.

it should be repainted and not touched up paint, re-do the whole thing. Touch up paint wont last long, it isnt clear coat sealed, and will eventaly flake off.
if the dealership will repaint, go for it.
i have inquired aobut the same piece, i had a run in with shopping cart, scratched and slight gouge on it.
to replace the panle, UNPAINTED , was $280.00, with the paint job at $130.00
Had two other estimates, just repainted and filling gouge, $180--to $100.00

I went to the dealer today and they DENY that the vehicle came delivered with the chip/ding on the right passenger side Plastic trim door panel. They are blaming me for the damage. I don't want them to touch the vehicle for repairs. They are slobs.
There is a slight gouge in the plastic silver door panel from whoever opened their door onto it, but it is not really noticeable. The only noticeable part is the Black area where the paint scraped/chipped off. I ordered touch-up paint and will touch it up. If I try to let the dealer to repaint it, the panel might not come out the same color and match the other panels on the other door. Also, when a body shop starts taking off plastic mouldings and panels like this one which are factory installed, they do not re-attach themselves properly after being taken off. They tend to be a loose fit when put back on the vehicle. I do not want the body shop to glue them on either. If the area where the damage was done was huge, then I would want to replace the whole panel with a new one. The damaged area is only in a "SPOT" area no larger than 1/4" large. That's about the amount of area where the paint has been scraped/chipped off from the door being opened on the panel. I think that 2 to 3 coats of touch-up paint will be good enough and wouldn't be that noticeable. The vehicle is still a virgin new car and I do not want to bring it to the body shop for them to ruin it. If the damage on the panel were a long scrape or a long scratch, then I would want to replace the whole panel because touch-up paint would not look good and it would be noticeable because of the larger exposed area of damage done to the panel by the scratch/scrape.
Does this sound logical or what? Please give me your input on this subject.

i dont blame the dealer for not wanting to take the blame. If you did a walk around with the salesperson prior t taking delivery and it was not pointed out, then as soon as you drive the vehicle off their lot, it is legally yours, and the title is now in your name. They are not to blame for any road hazards etc..that may cause blemishes.
I owuld strogly encourage you to allow their body shop to repaint it if it were bigger. Do the touch up paint and see if it lasts, make sure you 'build" layers, dont blob it or dab it on. Apply layers, with drying time in between them. If it lasts, fine..if it doenst, you can repaint.
They wont "glue" the panel on, they will use 3M tape, thats what on it now, and there are 2 or 3 pins holding it on the door. You can view these panels in detail at the Hyundai tech website.
