Try Xpel.com 5year warranty and lists available with installers throughout the USA.
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
Thanks! I'm officially moved to other board for info but I spoke to a local guy trained by Xpel. He wants $600 and trying to figure if thats reasonable or not.
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
If you are getting the complete kit (all of the front end and sideview mirrors), than that is probably a good price. The prices of the product itself are llisted at the Xpel site.

Is this something I should be concerned about? It's been sitting somewhere for almost 10 months. Should I be worried about the oil? Car looks immaculate and had 10 miles on it when I test drove it - took it home with 15. Or is this 'just a thing that can happen?'

    Thanks for any feedback.
  • danf1danf1 Member Posts: 897
It probably did not get to the dealership until March. I wouldn't worry about the oil. We have had some cars (not Hyundai's) celebrate a birthday on our lot.

Thanks! Load off my mind. Now I just have to find out why the VIN isnt showing up in Carfax. . . .

Im not having MPG problems yet lol I only have 400 miles on my new 04 santa fe but im wondering what other santa fe owners have found works best to improve MPG. I using my Transshift for all driving and im going to see what kind of mpg that gets me. I read on the forums also that using a blended synthectic oil can add some mpg also. Feel welcome to pipe in and share smile.gif

Mine is a 2.4-liter '02 model and it currently averages 19 mpg in the city and 27.5 mpg on the highway (the latter is a lot more variable; do to poor weather conditions, I averaged only 19 mpg on Highway 49 in Louisiana once!). The first fill-up was just under 16 mpg (city) but with each additional fill-up economy improved very slightly. It hovered around 17 mpg toward the end of break-in, then averaged 18-19 mpg after that.
As an aside, there is a thread on this website entirely devoted to Santa Fe fuel economy. You can view it by clicking here.

On this model what is best way to remove cap. It appears different from usual. I don't want to force it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

I've had my Santy since October 28, 2000. I have the LX (AWD) with the 3.5 Liter engine.

I used to get 24 mpg driving highways at 80+ mph....the engine was replaced at 26,000 thousand miles (under warrenty, due to manufacturer problems) since then I average about 20mpg. The car now has about 96,000 miles..... :)
  • johnboyy2gjohnboyy2g Member Posts: 11
I believe I had mine replace around 60 thousand miles. It was in the same ball park price wise...

Dealers are marking prices for parts up a RIDICULOUS amount. My dealer told me the spark plugs were $13.25 each...I went to Pepboys and they said the OEM plugs in PLATINUM were only $1.55....I got the BOSCH plus 4 plugs for about $5.75 and replaced all the plugs and wires myself.... :P

I used my 2001 Santa Fe to boost a stranded vehicle the other day and now my park lights/side markers stay on when you shut the vehicle off....not all the time, kinda random thing, I have checked fuses, disconnected the battery for a couple minutes etc, but still on. I have a remote starter installed, just changed the battery in it a week ago....
    Baffled in Saskatchewan :confuse:

I'm looking to buy a new Santa Fe, I was just wondering what minor differences there were between the 2005 or 2006 model years?
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
Here are the changes for the '06MY:

    +Standard on all models: blacked-out B and C pillars
+Standard on GLS 3.5: electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink® integrated universal transceiver
+"LX" trim name changed to "Limited"
+Standard on Limited: automatic on/off headlamp control
+Available for Limited: all-black monochromatic color scheme
+Some manufacturer-installed optional items used to only be available as dealer-installed accessories

I personally would suggest waiting for the all-new 2007 model (due sometime between April and early September of this year). It's a very highly-improved vehicle overall, being more safe, roomy, powerful, economical, agile, and refined than the 2001-06 models. With a significantly wider track, revised independent suspension, and standard stability control, the '07 will prove more forgiving at its handling limits. A stronger safety cage, head-protective side curtain airbags, and active-response head restraints will have your back if things really don't go according to plan. Both five- and seven-passenger models will be available.

Thanks for the breakdown, it seems for me there's not too much difference between the 2005 and 2006. Trust me, I've been eyeing that 2007 and I'm tempted to wait...but I'm not sure I can afford it since I'm sure the prices will go up. There are a lot of incentives for 2005, and it'll be awhile after the 2007 arrives for there to be deals. I just got a quote for 2005 that seems really competitive, $19,358 for a 2005 LX with sunroof before TTL....$57 doc fee, that's it. I'll post in the Prices Paid section to see if that's a good deal or not. Thanks again.

"Thanks for the breakdown, it seems for me there's not too much difference between the 2005 and 2006."

    No, not much at all.

Yeah, I'm predicting that the MSRPs will start a little over $22K and run all the way up to the $29K mark for a loaded, top-of-the-line AWD Limited. Not a huge gap between the current model, but, you're right about the incentives making the difference -- a significant one in this case.

Good idea -- that does sound like a great deal.

    "Thanks again."

    I've noticed the following:
In one service department, a posting stated they'd give $2000 ABOVE book value for the suv
In another dealership, I received a letter also offering generous money for the vehicle.

Is this real? Or is just a line of uknowwhat?
Letter states dealership in 'great need to acquire 100 pre-owned Hyundai's i order to fulfill special used vehicle requests...'

Real or hype? Do they simply get the money back by not dealing down on the new vehicle?
Is there something special about the 2003 santa fe that makes it desirable? Or do they just desire me to trade in for a new Hyundai?
  • LDegrelleLDegrelle Member Posts: 74
I think it's just a way to get you in so they can sell you a new car. I've seen this trick in many different forms. I am currently getting requests for my 96 Saturn SL2 - "We desperately need you Saturn!" might as well be "We desperatelty need you to come in and buy a car!"

The most interesting hook was when our Saturn was two years old. The dealership offered to let us trade in our car against a new one and keep the payments the same. In other words, we were paying $240 a month for our Saturn. We trade in the old one for a new one and walk away with a new car for the same $240 a month. The payment calendar would of course start over at the first month out of 60 months, but its an interesting hook. Never bothered to see if it was good deal or not - car ran (and runs) fine so no need to upgrade.

thats awsome, yes I think you got it for a great price. I am sure you will love you santa fe. I wish I would have gotten the 3.5.

anybody can tell me the better ways to use the shiftronic gear any speed or any weather conditons never use that before and I dont want to make mistake and mess up the gear itself thanks guys :confuse:
  • mike_belknapmike_belknap Member Posts: 378
While you could make yourself or your passengers uncomfortable from poor shift timing, the system will not allow you to mess the gears up -- you have selective control, but only within certain bounds. In fact, if you're traveling along and have the lever in manual mode on a higher gear and slow to a stop, the vehicle will automatically move to first as you decelerate and stop.
It's designed so that people can feel free to play with it. As you do so, you'll begin to figure out what's good for your driving style and what's not.

I need your opinion, my wife and I are interested in getting a 2nd hand 2001 2.4L A/T santa fe. It has around 60T kms on it and I was just wondering what things I should be looking for in order to see if it's in a good condition?

Looking for a gently used car and ran across some 01 Santa Fe's and went to check reliabilty ratings. JD powers shows that 4-5 year mechanical dependability is 2/5. MSN Autos shows them as 5/5 with no major issues. Now i'm even MORE confused than I was before.

Can anyone tell me what major problems to expect with these and which reliability rating is more accurate (I haven't even gone to consumer reports yet). I have read reviews out my ying yang and still can't get a good feel for this cars reliability.

I MUST have a car that is reliable and requires few worries as I am a single parent who has to transport two kids, one who has a developmental disablity. Break downs are not acceptable :)

I keep reading reviews (yahoo, msn, cars.com) that the 2006 Santa Fe Limited has rear hvac ducts. I own one, but where are they? I have no idea where this has come from. Anyone know anything about it.
  • monzamonza Member Posts: 2
The new Santa Fe is now on sale in New Zealand (Check the atlas if you're not sure!) I drove the 2.2 intercooled diesel engine auto trans. Very quiet, very impressive with 110kw of power and around 330 nm torque. Returns around 8.1 liters per 100K (over 29 miles per US gallon. Probably as fast as the petrol and will tow up to two ton braked trailer - I wouldn't look past the diesel the way fuel prices are going over here.

i plan to buy this one which has 70k+ miles on it in the midwest. How reliable is this vehicle? Also, any advice on the warranty i should take would be really helpfull as iam confused as to whether i should go for extended warranties offered by "warranty direct" OR is it safer to to take the extended warranty directly with Hyundai. Also what is the price i should pay for this suv?

    thanks,
    vst.

Hi, everyone. As you've probably noticed, we have been trying to refine the discussions into more narrowly focussed topics. Our objective is twofold. We want to make it easier for people seeking specific information about their vehicles to find it easily and without having to wade through hundreds or thousands of postings.

To those ends, we will be shutting down the general make/model discussions and work exclusively with specific issues. This requires us to populate the make/model subsections with relevant, interesting and timely topics. Rather than having the hosts simply create boilerplate topics for each make/model, we feel that you, the owner, the make/model enthusiast and the prospective buyer can best judge what those topics should be.

You can help by adding a discussion (it's easy!) or suggesting one here.

To add a discussion, click on the last link in the "You are here" line at the top of this page. That will take you to the topic page for this make/model. Review the list of topics and click on the "Add discussion" link when you've decided what topic you'd like to add. Follow the directions and you're done! Feel free to add more than one. Just avoid duplicating existing topics and try not to make it TOO specific!

Your help and continued participation in the Forums is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Color matters a little bit too - silver in my zip code is worth an extra $3 or $4 for example.

Edmunds isn't so generous for one in average condition in my zip code - $5,759 trade, $6,814 private and $7,778 retail (link).

I have a 2004 Sante Fe, 2.7 liter 6 cyl, with about 69,000 miles. I have the oil changed every 3000-4000 miles. Around 40,000 I began to experience a hesitation in the transmission. When I started the car and began to move forward the transmission would skip or hesitate 4 times. When it happens it's always four times. I took it to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong. (of course it wouldn't do it there!). It kept doing it but not consistently. I had the trans flushed at 60,000 (not at the dealer) and thought it was cured. it's still there. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where to buy a manual for this car? The 60,000 mile maintenance seems very pricey to me, I elected to skip it.

Your dealer told you there is nothing wrong with the transmission because it is not the transmission you are having the problem with. I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 55000 miles and just had the same problem. When accelerating it feels as if the tranny is skipping or as the tires are losing traction and quickly regaining it. Mile also did it really bad when I went into passing gear on the parkway.

Have the dealer check the rear differential, I bet thats whats wrong. Mine failed, it had metal shavings in it and the gears were worn down. What I (and I bet you) are feeling is the gears in the rear differential slipping and then grabbing again when it hesitates.

I, like you, thought off the bat it was the transmission also. It seems it is a difficult part to get (took my dealer a week) and from what my mechanic brother in law tells me it is expensive job. I have no idea how much, mine is under warranty.

Bottom line is your dealer should have known to check it when you described your problem. Good luck.

I own a 2003 Sante Fe. No problems until now. I was told the timing belt stretched and did major damage to the engine and it needs to be reassembled, costing me anywhere from $4,000 to $5,600. I'm in the process of trying to get some of that money, if not all, back from Hyundai consumer affairs. VERY DISSAPPOINTED IN HYUNDAI  I've recently found out this also happened to another 2001 Sante Fe owner. She got it fixed and traded it in right away. Any feedback from you would be appreciated.
