That is correct. The humming noise is virtually gone. It used to be loud and annoying. As I mentioned in previous messages, the noise was loud at any speed, including between 60-65mph, when the rpm was between 2100 and 2300. It was particulaly more obvious at cruising speed because the rpm was right in that range. In lower speed, one tends to accelerate and ease off very often so it was tougher to keep the rpm in that range.
Yes, the repair was under warranty. My van had less than 2K miles and was only 1 month and 1/2 old at that time.
You need to get your dealer to reproduce the problem before they accept to fix it.
Good luck.
Are you planning to go with the Lemon Law? Please let me know. thanks :lemon:
Please let me know what your dealer says about the humming problem. I just called and spoke to my dealer about the problem and they asked me to bring it in for them to diagnose the noise issue. The soonest I'll be able to bring it in is probably in a couple of weeks. If possible I will request a mechanic to drive it or sit in the passenger seat so they can hear it also.

It really is annoying specially with BRAND NEW CAR!!!
Is there anything we can do???
Welcome to the club of frustating Odyssey's owner.
I had the same problem with a brand new one too.
Check message #106 for a possible solution to your problem.
It seems very similar to mine.
Good luck
thanks.
weeks and have a question about the audio system. I
understand that the Touring model has an auxilliary
input located in the armrest of the third row - is
this correct? Does this input exist on other models,
like the EX-L?
Thanks for any information...

I do notice a slight "lugging" noise at about 2100 rpm, with a light touch on the gas (that is, cruising, not passing through that RPM range). Not noticable or objectionable, and I only even pay attention (sometimes) because I read all these stories. I don't consider it a "defect", it's just part of the personality of the van.
Now, without trying out other vans (from the people complaining here) I honestly can't say if their's are any different than mine. I have found in the past that people have different tolerance levels for mechanical noises. So it is entirely possible that my van is identical to the one that someone here wants to give back under the lemon law.
And, I am generally very anal about noises that don't belong (rattles for instance), so if there was a noise/vibration that seemed like a problem, I would freak out about it.
But honestly, I can't say if I just happened to get a good unit, or I just don't notice things that bother other people.

I have noticed engine knocking when the motor is cold and under acceleration I brought it to the attention of Honda and was told it is normal for this engine. The noise goes away once operating temperature is reached. Neither noise effects the superb power and smoothness of the Odyssey.
Pros: It did reduce (not eliminate) the hum from 45mph-55mph.
Cons: Now the van hums when it idles (did not do it prior to the replacement). You can feel the vibration on the steering wheel.
Still have the vibration/hum at 70mph.
Recommendations: At this point and time, I am undecided if the replacement was worth it.
As I have mentioned in one of my previous posts, I think this is an inherent problem with the Odyssey and the exhaust system. This noise, at that frequency, is amplified by the Odyssey's cabin like a guitar does when a string is hit.
The noise I had was drastically reduced with the A-pipe change. I still can hear some humming noise in the 2200 rpm range. I also drove two other Odys. They all exhibit the same humming noise but at a much lesser degree. My van is now pretty much like the other two I drove. So, I am happy with it.
Consider yourselves lucky since your van does not hum that much. How about this for comparison: my 05 Odys van is lot louder (10 dB at least, 6dB means double) than my 97 Olds van . It is also louder than any older Odys at the 2200RPM -2400RPM. It is like a broken muffler sound. That is to me a design flaw since the engine operates quite a bit on that RPM range (40 MPH around town and 62-67 MPH on hwy). They may have their air induction design screw-up and it just resonates. If it resonates at 6500 RPM, then it is not that bad since most of us do not want to destroy our engine, but 2400 RPM resonance is down right bad engineering. Otherwise, this is a very excellent vehicle in drive, handling, acceleration, satety,...

perhaps someone with a lift could do some experimentation along those lines.
i'd make sure any heat-shielding attached to the undercarriage, or CAT, or muffler, or exhaust manifold, etc was firmly attached and not loose to vibrate.
this presumes the issue is a standing wave / resonance set up on the pipe, as opposed to IN the pipe. If the problem is IN the pipe, well the approach to mitigation I think would be different.
I just changed my oil myself and the oil life meter keeps saying 15%. Does anyone know how to reset this?

I'm not sure about your problem though. My Accord tranny has a mind of its own and does not shift like other cars. Lets say the downshifts are unpredictable. The Honda techs will probably tell you it is normal unless the computer is showing an error code. Can't hurt to have it checked out.
If this happens only on turns, first suspicion would be the power steering unit. Try to duplicate the noise by turning the steering wheel while sitting still.. Also, call around and talk to other Service Managers.......
Am I missing something or is there a better way to test for these problems. :surprise:
Any help is greatly appreciated.
They flushed the entire system with new fluid and that seemed to fix. Maybe the original fluid was contaminated then when it warmed up was when the problems would start. Turns out that some of the other dealers were seeing the same problems so make sure your repair service calls around to other repair shops if they claim they have never hear of the problem.
I am now have a clunking sound in the suspension on the right front wheel. Vehicle only has 4200 miles. Will be taking in again to see what is going on there - hopefully just something related to work done on power steering system.
I think I will wait and make sure all the bugs are worked out of the Honda FWD Truck before trading my Z-71.
That is just one set of headphones. The other set does not work at all. I will be heading to the dealer today. Anyone else having the same problem?
I've seen similar threads but none seem to indicate the final conclusion/fix.
Thanks in advance!
Your van's MPG numbers are normal. they're real world numbers for minivans. I got the same numbers for my 05 Odys after a year of ownership. My 97 Olds minivan has the similar numbers eventhough it is ~400 lbs lighter and with far less hourse power. Honda EPA MPG may be too inflated and very tough to achieve.

first i start to hear humming noise at about 200 miles only when idle, now its almost all the time when i let go of gas pedal.. wow its unreal, and none of the honda people dont know what im talking about... no way they sell thousands of this cars a month, and BTW this van is omly 1month old and already DVD player gave upKEEP SAYING LOADING,I CANT BELIEVE how manny more trips to dealer im gona have for the next 3 years....
Slightly frustrated. Chgoody. :confuse:
This humming noise is rather easy to hear and notice. Both my wife and I noticed it the first day we took the delivery of our 05 Odys. Even before that we had an old GM van and it did not sound that bad.
How about this for identification: If the vehicle operates in good RPM range (other than 2200-2500 RPM), the vehicle spurs along real nice. As soon as it hits the bad RPM range, the vehicle sounds like it has a leaky muffler or tailpipe. It is more than twice as loud as normal and it has a booming, low frequency effect. So it is not some of us who have sensitive ears or imagine thing, it is bad vehicles that we're stuck with.
If your vehicle does not have it: congratulations, you're lucky.
As a whole, I like my Odys very much. I love driving it on long distance trip: good handling, ride, performance, solid chassis,... It would be a perfect vehicle if this horrible sound is not there. Hope it is not indicative of mechanical problem: engine, transmission,...
