After researching and test driving this vehicle I am wondering how this does in the mountains. Will the engine get bogged down a lot? I am wanting an Fit Sport AT. When I test drove this car I went on their "road track" test drive through a very flat neighborhood, it was under tight watch being the only one on the lot for some time. I love the style and price of the car but just wondering if it can keep up with all the hills. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
The FIT will do just fine in the mountains. I live near Denver and use my manual transmission FIT often on the mountain roads - both small and interstates. It is a JOY to drive on the tight twisty smaller roads. It does just fine also on the interstates. On a big long grade such as I-70 heading West up the continental divide, if you are in 5th gear with cruise control on, you will need to shift down to 4th occasionally. Sounds as if you are more interested in an automatic. I can't speak from experience, but the auto will probably do some downshifting on the longer grades.
I paid a deposit for the Fit Base, Lunar Mist Metallic, automatic in July. In Dec., there's still no sign of the car. My dealer says Lunar Mist Metallic colour has not been made in the Base model. Obviously, not true. How's the car?
Some of you guys have far more patience than me with this Fit situation. With the Scion X series, the Ford Focus with ads of $6000 off list and the Civic starting to sell at or below invoice, (and all available mostly off the lot) this is a lot of aggravation to pay MSRP+ for a roller skate.
If the thing levitated, had outstanding styling, was a sports car or had the 100mpg fuel injection technology the oil companies supposedly stole to increase profits that would be a mitigating factor but otherwise....
Well, I just bought mine, and to tell you the truth, I couldn't be happier.
My FIT has excellent MPG, at anywhere from about 30-33 MPG in the city driving, and 35-38 HWY. The steering control is excellent, almost like a force feedback, and you can really feel the electronic steering stabilization really working. Just to test it out, I was zipping around corners listed as 45 at around 70, and this thing hugged the turns like it was stuck to them by magnets. As far as the paddle shifters on my sport version, yeah, they could have done without those, as they really aren't needed, but it's nice to have if I ever feel like driving a standard again.
The sound system is great, with the six speakers and all, but I will upgrade later I am sure. The seating is nice and roomy, and cargo space isn't an issue at all. The different modes are wonderful, as now I can pretty much choose how I want to store stuff on longer trips. You have to be sure to remember that the vehicle sits pretty low to the ground on the sport model, as I found out the hard way when I scraped the underside of the front bumper.
The alloy wheels look pretty gay, I should say though. DEFINATELY going to get those switched out. The new windshield wipers are nice, and do an excellent job. I also got the blue trim, to match my car color, and the full nose cover, and the muffler cap. Everything all together, and I paid about 1,000 less than MSRP, and am paying 345 for 60 mo. It would be lower, but I am sitting with a bankruptcy from 3 years ago, and have a few bills to pay off. So, I got mine for about 16,200 before interest, and am sitting at a 10% APR. I will refinance after June 07, when my bills are all paid off, and try to get the price down to 300 or less.
All in all, the vehicle is gret, handles like a dream, and the MPG is unbelieveable. I have never been happier with a new car, it's everything I ever wanted. It's worth a hassle if you need to wait, in my opinion. I just wish it had accessories like seat covers made for it, and floor mats should never be an "option" on any vehicle, they should be standard.
OUCH!! Well, at least its nice to know the front of the car will crunch up, as opposed to the engine smashing back into the driver and breaking their legs (oh, I love new safety features!).
I ordered my Storm Silver Metallic Fit Sport on 9-2-06 at a dealership outside of Pittsburgh. The saleswoman said it would be here sometime in the first two or thee weeks in December. Not hearing from her, I called her two weeks ago to check in on things. "The car is on a boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean...will be here by Christmas." The conversation finished with her telling me to look for a call from her the following week. Not hearing from her again, I called last Thursday. Turns out the car was built on 11-25, but is still NOT on the boat. Forget delivery before Christmas. Maybe before the new year if I'm lucky. But until that time, I'm attempting to wait patiently. That whole "patiently" thing has a lot to be desired, though. It's nice to know I'm not the only one in this boat. I wonder how long I have to wait... :confuse: and I wonder how long I can hold out. It's worth it...right?
It's price posting like this that gives the unknowing unrealalistic expectations. Everyone else id a M.S.R.P. or above and this price paid is $1,000.00 under M.S.R.P. NO WAY - NO HOW
So you are saying that there is no way I only paid the 16,000 +/- on my new FIT? Is there some substantiating evidence to this boastful claim? It's ok, I am paying for it now for backing into a tree at 2 mph, and puncturing the back fender cover. 367 bucks. Anyways, my inside trim and new exaust tip should be in this week. If you want, I can send you a copy of the sales receipt. Just notice the price prior to the finance charges.
This is not a boastful claim, there is not $1,000.00 between M.S.R.P. and dealer Net-Net-Net. The dealer would paying you $100.00+- to take it off his lot?? Be that as it may, enjoy your FIT

I *WISH* I was on your boat, so to speak. Just talked to my dealer and he now tells me my dec/jan date is now feb sometime but he has no clue when. UGH. SOmeone just shoot me now!
I am waiting on a manual, so I can understand if it takes longer but I just wish I knew that up front so I could have ordered it from another dealer (not that I know that would have helped, because I do not). I thought at the time I ordered I was like third on the list but later I find out that they couldnt even order my MT till around thanksgiving time.
Anyone else with this issue?
I hope it is worth it.
But if my current crappy car can't hold on that long, I might have to start looking for something other then what I really want.
I read these boards and decided to get on as many dealer lists as I could. I had to drive 2 hours to get the car from a dealer who let me put a deposit down. I expected to wait 3-4 weeks, but in two weeks she called to say the car was in! I thought it was a blue car, but it ended up being the Lunar mist. It's pretty. I got it in the base model. Love this car! It handled 75 on the highway like a dream. My advice is to just make as many phone calls and hope you get lucky. I paid less for the total with financing ect. than the number the toyota dealer gave me for the Matrix and I like the Fit better. The dealers have no clue when these cars are coming in.
I traded in my motorcycle, got 1000 for it. I got a sport auto, VBP. Love it. they put some odd coating on it called "glamour coating" Total after all that before tax tags and liscense was 17,1++.00 I paid, after taxes and adding the interior trim, exhaust tip, and the mats and full hood bra, 16,2++.00 or 16,5++.00 to include tags, etc. So, I would say yes, I saved over 1000-1500 bucks. Maybe more. And I am trying to start anything, just wanted to let you all know I love my fit, and I really think I got a great deal, for an even greater car.
So you financed $16,200 at 10% for 60 months = $345, plus you're $1000 trade-in = $17,200 out the door price. A Fit Sport Auto MSRP = $16,500. To further clarify this great-sounding deal...what's the sales tax rate?
I would have to check, however, you forgot the glamor coating that they added. So a slip of words talking about the MSRP. Also, you have to add in the extras I got with the vehicle. Floor mats, exhaust tip, full interior trim. The "glamour coating" that the dealer puts on here is some sort of additional clear coat, they put it on whether you want them to or not, so they can bump the price up from the 16,500 MSRP to 17,2oo. Add in the additional stuff I had added, it comes to almost 18,000, before tax tags and lic. AFTER the additional stuff was added in, the trade in was subtracted, and the TT&L was added, and BEFORE the finance rate and the gap coverage I added, it was right around 16,2 or 16,5. And I was wrong about the APR, my APR is 11.5, thanks the the bankruptcy I had from 4 years ago. It's ok though, in June when my bills are all paid off, it's time to refinance. I want to say sales tax here is around 8%, but I could be WAY off, I dunno, the paperwork is all out in the car. Are you finished wanting to make me seem like a liar now?
Okay, no more questions from me, so you don't have to bother looking at the paperwork in the car. I'm not saying you're a liar but you have to admit, your posts make it sound like you're sort of confused about what you actually paid, your interest rate, actual MSRP, the cost of the accessories, etc, but I'm glad you're happy with your purchase.
I finally got my Storm Silver Sport Auto Fit yesterday, after a five month wait. During the close, the salesman made the usual pitch to give him a good rating when I received the questionnaire from Honda, and I gave him my feedback right then and there. He had been friendly, pleasant and honest, but not at all responsive to my requests for updates on build date, VIN, ship date, etc., so I told him I could not give him a "5" for whatever question was relevant to those concerns.
He claimed that he didn't want to give me that info because it was frequently unreliable, and he had gotten other customers upset by providing those figures, which later turned out to be wrong. I suspect he was just being defensive, but have any of you had experiences where you actually saw the dates and they were later changed?
I've read of one case on either this forum or FitFreak where someone was told that their car had been shipped, then was later told that it had not been shipped yet, but in that case the customer had only the salesperson's word, and the salesperson may just have been blowing them off.
We decided we wanted a Fit this summer, but all of the dealers in our area wanted more than sticker price and had months-long waiting lists, so we decided to wait until some of the rush died down. Now we're ready to try again, but it appears there's still a substantial wait time.
I have 2 basic questions. First, what would be the typical wait time we might expect before receiving a car that one particular dealer is telling us is "slated for Production in the next few weeks"? It seems to me that that would likely be a very long time, if it's not even built yet. Also, he tells me that this car they have 'slated for production' is exactly what we're looking for. Do dealers actually know what is 'slated for production' for their particular dealership before it's built, or should I assume this is a case in which they'd simply try to trade around to get our car once they get whatever they get, unless they *happen* to get lucky enough to get what we're looking for?
If the dealer is telling the truth, the car should be delivered about four to six weeks after it is built, so you are probably looking at an eight to ten week wait, depending on how long "the next few weeks" actually turns out to be!
As I understand the system, Honda allocates a certain number of Fits to the dealer based on their previous sales volume. (In the case of the Fit, I'm told that it is based on last year's sale of Civics.) The dealer has no choice in what they get, only whether they will take a certain car or not. For example, they may get an allocation of two Storm Silver Sport Automatics, one Lunar Mist Base Automatic, and one Milano Red Sport Manual. If a customer has given them a deposit on any of those, they obviously say they'll take it. Since the Fit is in such high demand, they'll probably also take any other cars allocated to them, with the idea that they can either sell them from stock or trade with another dealer. In your case, the dealer is probably talking about a car they ordered for stock, although they might have taken it because someone had put a deposit on it, then cancelled the order later - that happens a lot because people get tired of waiting.
Next the dealer gets a notice that their order has been approved, then an estimated build date, then an actual build date with the VINs of the cars, then a date the cars were shipped from Japan. It's not clear to me if they get any other notices before the cars actually arrive.
I've put all this together from previous postings on this group and FitFreak, and from what my dealer told me. Since people don't always use the same terminology, I'm not sure this is 100% correct; there may be other steps. And, as I noted in the post just above yours, the salesman I dealt with says that you can't trust the dates anyway!
actually the dealer can order whatever colors he wants to. he can also order how many sport and base models he wants. the only thing he cannot do it order the number of vehicles in a particular model. he only gets so many per quarter. but of those cars he is alloted he can order whatever colors and models he chooses to.
and hyes 6 weeks is a good estimate on how long after production it should arrive at the dealership.
A dealer is offering base manual for msrp + $600 for "window tint package", which includes tinting five windows + Lex door guards. He wants a $500 deposit. Am I right that you can get windows professionally tinted for $200 on your own? Is it possible to get a Fit in Arizona that doesn't require these "add ons"? I do want tinting but having to go for extras makes me think about the Yaris...
Thanks, guys. Upon further questioning, he gave the production date as the 2nd or 3rd week of January, so it sounds like the best guess for the car's arrival date would be late February/early March, unless he managed to trade one of his other Fits for one that would work for us. That at least gives me a reasonable timeframe to work with.
He suggested we put down a deposit and then he'd put the allocations department to work to try to trade one of the two they have coming in this month for one like we're wanting. I'm rather leery of putting down a deposit, though, without some kind of timeframe -- last time I put down a deposit on a high-demand vehicle, the dealer kept us waiting for 7 months always claiming it'd be 'just a few more weeks' before finally admitting he hadn't done anything whatsoever to try to trade for the vehicle we wanted, and we were no closer to getting one than we had been the day we placed the order.
It seems to me that the dealer ought to be able to see if there's a vehicle available for trade *before* I put down a deposit. I suppose that theoretically that could leave them in an awkward position should they arrange a trade and the buyer then decline to take the car, but given the speed with which Fits are flying off the lots, I doubt they'd have a difficult time finding another buyer for it. Is it fairly common practice to require a deposit before attempting a trade?
I may try offering to put down a deposit if they'll agree to add a line saying that I automatically get my deposit back if they haven't acquired the car I'm looking for by a certain date.
Not all dealers insist on add-ons, but my impression is that more do than don't, at least in regards to the Fit. It's rather obnoxiously pervasive.
I'd keep searching around, if you have the patience for it. Just keep repeating that you don't want any add-ons and won't buy from any dealer that insists on them, and you'll probably eventually find one willing to deal with you on those terms.
Yeah, you're actually right, I had to take a step back to see what the hell I was talking about there. I did actually get a pretty good deal, with additional accessories and all. But thank you, you really helped me figure what's all included in a full purchase price.
I know for a fact that there are more than two Fits coming to Arizona in the next two months, that's total b.s. (I saw you posted that on another thread). Tucson only has a couple coming in but there are a lot more in Phoenix. I don't know what you're looking for but the dealer in Sierra Vista told me they have a base silver storm auto that should be there Monday. They wouldn't give me a price on it though so I don't know if they'll extort the add ons and market adjustment too. The $600 tint and door guard thing is a total rip off, you can get the windows tinted on your own for about $150 and the door guards are pieces of clear plastic that they stick to the door edges. The auto butler is a glorified car wash. It's total bull coming from a dealer whose motto is "no bull." Try Bell Honda and go through internet sales, I'm not sure what extortion fees they add on but they should tell you what's coming in soon. Stay away from Tempe Honda, those guys are pompous jerks. And don't go to Tucson, you'll have better luck in Phoenix. If you can't get one here go to Rock Honda in LA, but make sure you go through internet sales.
I have a Fit ordered that's supposedly slated for early January production, they're telling me I'll get it at the end of February, we'll see though.
In late October I asked the Honda dealer in Santa Rosa CA about the availability of a Taffeta White, Sport AT. A couple of days later he called to tell me that they would have the car in the first week of January. They called today to tell me that the car was in LA and gave me the VIN # so I could get insurance. He said I would have the car next weekend. I am buying this car @ MSRP. While I have been waiting, I have gotten calls from the big Honda dealer in Palo Alto with two in stock @ MSRP (wrong colors) and from the Honda dealer in Eureka CA with a Red Sport AT, also at MSRP (if was still there yesterday). The Honda store in El Cerrito also called with a white Sport MT, but they wanted $600 over MSRP (they had added some crap to the car to try to justify the price). The Fit seems to be available here in N. CA. at MSRP if you are not set on a particular color.
Thanks for all the advice, this is my first new car. Just when I thought I'd figured it out I discover there is a variable "documentation" fee above licensure. Is the "doc" fee included in the standard quotations (and what total tax/licensure should I expect in Az)? Should I just ask everyone for the "total out the door" price to compare apples to apples?
I don't think the Fit will limit your speed in the mountains. Probably the fear of speeding tickets will be the major limiting factor. At Thanksgiving we drove through the Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver with 4 people and lots of luggage without any problem. The automatic might get a little noisy when it occasionally downshifts - but that doesn't happen too often. We encountered snow deep enough to scrape the bottom of the car - but it handled very well. We just bought new Nokian WR tires since the car had 40,000 miles on it. As far as I know these are the only tires you can drive year around and yet still have the "snowflake rating" for extreme weather driving. As soon as I can figure out where to install them, I would like to put on a set of good driving lights - since I mostly drive at night and there are so many animals on the road.
Don't worry about driving in the mountains - look forward to it instead. Keep your gas tank full, watch out for animals, and don't get overconfident when road conditions are slippery. Our trip was delayed for 5 hours because they closed the road for an accident on the icy roads.
I've found that asking everyone the total out-the-door price is the only way to ensure that I'm getting the whole story so that I can make an apples-to-apples comparison. Make sure they itemize it for you -- x amount for the car, y for this fee, z for that, and so forth -- so that you can compare everything for each dealer. Far too many dealers out there will claim that they're selling at or below MSRP and only upon being pinned down with no wiggle room admit that they have additional 'non-negotiable' fees. (I put that in quotes because in my experience they sometimes are negotiable -- and if not, that's a good reason to go elsewhere.)
I've run across people wanting as much as $800 above title and tags for documentation fees, and one guy even wanted $500 for temporary tags on top of an $800 documentation fee. It takes some work, but there are dealers out there who will sell for car price (use the 'build and price your fit' feature at the Honda web site to see what that should be for your configuration), tax, title, and tags. I'd just say goodbye to anyone asking for a document fee on top of that.
I don't know what standard sales tax on vehicles is in Arizona, but that info shouldn't be too hard to come by. Tags and licensure IME shouldn't add up to any more than $200 at the very most, though I don't know about Arizona's fees in particular.
BTW, $600 in markup fees probably is close to average, or even a bit low -- but it's probably also avoidable, if you're willing to keep walking out until you can find a dealer willing to sell without a markup. Out of 20 or 30 dealers contacted, I found only 2 willing to do that, so it's not necessarily easy -- but they are out there. If you want the window tinting you can always have it done just as well and much less expensively yourself after you pick up the vehicle
Thanks that was helpful. From the mvd site I think Az's title and registration fees are approximately $260 on a $14445 automobile (it's a percentage of manufacturer base retail price here). I have always bought used cars before to avoid all this bull; but I just had a scooter accident and want the latest safety features of the last few years. By the way, the yaris with side curtains and abs bring it to $1000 less than the fit according to what I'm seeing.
Don't forget that the Yaris Liftback is only a three door, while the Fit is a Five door. I'm not sure if the two extra doors are worth another thousand dollars to everyone, but that was a pivotal factor in my decision to buy the Fit. I never test drove a Yaris because it lacked five doors, but I also hear that its handling isn't as agile as the Fit. Again, is that worth $1000? To me, it probably wouldn't be. I drive very sensibly, and don't need to push my cars limits. If the Yaris could have offered everything the Fit did (that would mean a five speed automatic instead of a four speed AND five doors instead of three) then I would happily have picked up a Yaris. But as it was, the Fit offered more that I liked, was still within my price range, and on a personal note, I like its interior design much better.
Still, for the value conscious shopper, its good to know that the Yaris can be had for nearly 1k less with similar safety features.
Just bought a FIT. I know extended warranties usually are not good deals. But I'm concerned that repairs will be expensive because presumably there will not be used, rebuilt or 3rd party parts for the 07's available over here.
Anyone have opinions on the extended warranty ($1500/100,000 miles)?
I just got my Fit last week, and declined the extended warranty.
We have never had a problem with any of our five previous Hondas that would have been covered by an extended warranty. In fact, the total we paid for repairs on all five Hondas together (excluding routine maintenance and collision damage) is less than the cost of the extended warranty we were offered on the Fit.
I have a Fit ordered that's supposedly slated for early January production, they're telling me I'll get it at the end of February, we'll see though.
Are you waiting on a MT or an auto?
It is my understanding they had to wait with my end of july order for somewhere around thanksgiving because of the timing of the production, so I wonder.

and hyes 6 weeks is a good estimate on how long after production it should arrive at the dealership.
What differences are there with the manuals vs the autos? I ordered a manual, and I get a sense that they have a certain period of production devoted solely to manuals but I have no clue.
Please help! and thanks for whatever you can tell me.

The only extra I wanted was installed floor mats and that was what I signed up for in the "contract".
I hesitate to call around because many places are saying they ahve buyers for all that are ordered and its a question of someone rejecting one, and even then you have no way of knowing what they ordered added on so you might have to pick up those add ons if someone cancels.
I am waiting on a MT, and now my current radiator is leaking so I am left with the dilemma...do I put a few hundred bucks into a piece of crap while waiting 8-10 weeks for a car, do I call around and pay more for add ons I didnt want, or do I just go on a hunt for a car I dont want made by someone other then honda?

Does the yaris have ABS available? IMO that is worth a bit of the extra as well as the satisfaction of buying a car that will last 200-300K miles. Plus it has plenty of other interior goodies, and I dont know if the 1000 price difference given includes basics like AC and CD player. Then there are those two doors, the magic seat, keyless entry, and cruise that i will get with my Fit. (Whenever the hell it gets here!)
I think that the reliability of the Fit will more than outweigh the potentially higher part costs, especially since the Fit's design has been around for years around the world. Does that $1500 warranty cover everything (except maintenance) with zero deductable? Like you said, in general, extended warranties are a bad deal and I'd just stick with your gut feeling.
MSRP + tax, tags, and title with floor mats thrown in free of charge and no extra fees or add-ons. It's a Vivid Blue Pearl Sport AT, with an out-the-door price (counting everything, including sales tax) of $17,754.51. Expected arrival time is before the end of February but potentially sooner if a dealer trade can be arranged.
I might have found a slightly better deal with enough effort, but there's not a lot of difference between invoice and MSRP on this car, so I'm happy enough. The order was placed with one of only two dealers out of 30+ we contacted who didn't either ask for more than MSRP or inflate the price with unwanted accessories or fee-padding. I'm happy with the dealer individually, but the shopping process itself was quite a headache and I'm very glad to be done with it.
I think you'll find that everyone is paying MSRP (or greater depending on dealer accessories), so if you're just paying MSRP and no accessories (like I did), then I think you did good.
Thanks, Bobw. I agree that it does seem to be the norm -- but the few posts I'd see here and there reporting deals at below MSRP did have me hopeful that I could be one of those lucky people.
Like I said, though, I'm happy with the deal I eventually arranged. And I'll be even happier once the car gets here!

Probably in response to the Fit, Toyota now offers a "package C" which combines power doors, steering, CD, ABS, and curtain air bags, plus sliding rear seats. I haven't competitively priced the yaris, but one Phoenix dealer offered me $15,631 otd. ("Your IDP*:$ $13924.00 [+] $1127.84 Tax, $205.00 Title & License $ 5 AZ tire Tax & $369 Doc fees= Out the Door: $15630.84").
The deal-breaker against Yaris for me is the two side doors, versus four for Fit. Worth it, if you think about a baby carseat. Plus Fit's cargo space is more than Yaris. I've owned Toyota's my whole life, currently own an Echo (highly recommend), and actually prefer the simplicity of yaris's insides compared with the Fit. But the doors and cargo are enough for me to wait a couple months as long as I can find msrp plus no add ons for the Fit. And that's the rub!

Dude, that's some crazy stuff. You are probably right. At this point tho, I couldn't imagine parting with something I haven't gotten yet.
If the thing levitated, had outstanding styling, was a sports car or had the 100mpg fuel injection technology the oil companies supposedly stole to increase profits that would be a mitigating factor but otherwise....
Happy Hunting

NO WAY - NO HOW

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!
And, as I noted in the post just above yours, the salesman I dealt with says that you can't trust the dates anyway!
and hyes 6 weeks is a good estimate on how long after production it should arrive at the dealership.
I'd keep searching around, if you have the patience for it. Just keep repeating that you don't want any add-ons and won't buy from any dealer that insists on them, and you'll probably eventually find one willing to deal with you on those terms.
I have a Fit ordered that's supposedly slated for early January production, they're telling me I'll get it at the end of February, we'll see though.
Good luck and keep us posted.
Don't worry about driving in the mountains - look forward to it instead. Keep your gas tank full, watch out for animals, and don't get overconfident when road conditions are slippery. Our trip was delayed for 5 hours because they closed the road for an accident on the icy roads.
Still, for the value conscious shopper, its good to know that the Yaris can be had for nearly 1k less with similar safety features.
Anyone have opinions on the extended warranty ($1500/100,000 miles)?
We have never had a problem with any of our five previous Hondas that would have been covered by an extended warranty. In fact, the total we paid for repairs on all five Hondas together (excluding routine maintenance and collision damage) is less than the cost of the extended warranty we were offered on the Fit.
Are you waiting on a MT or an auto?
It is my understanding they had to wait with my end of july order for somewhere around thanksgiving because of the timing of the production, so I wonder.
Thanks in advance.
and hyes 6 weeks is a good estimate on how long after production it should arrive at the dealership.

Grrrr....
