Yes, keyless entry is available for the base Fit. I checked College Hills Honda and they sell the kit for $108 (you gotta figure out how to install). The alarm system costs an extra $120 through them.
That is correct. On the black plastic "head" portion of the key, there are three buttons, a lock, unlock and a small "panic" button.
The head of the Fit key is about 50% bigger than the key to my 2005 Odyssey EX-L. The alarm/lock buttons for the Ody are on a separate fob, so the key itself just has the black plastic head.
I hate having the integrated remote and key. My Dodge Dakota has the same thing. It makes the key HUGE, and harder to carry with you, when there's the chance it may get wet (think: kayaking).
Normally, I would take the key off the ring, and lock the rest of my keyring (house keys, remote, etc.) in the car. The key gets tied into my life jacket, and off I go.
I'm going to have to see if I can get just a separate key cut, including whatever ignition-enabling chip in it that's needed, but excluding the remote.

Yeah, I was sort of surprised that Honda didn't include a valet key with the others, although I'm glad to have two remotes. I remember hearing rumors a month ago on this forum that only one remote key was provided (perhaps that's what they did in Canada).
I can imagine that you could get a key made for you, but I do know that the ignition-enabling keys are expensive, even if they don't power the locks and alarm.
Yeah, I agree having the integrated remote eliminates the option of just using the key. However, one advantage is that the remote doesn't get beat up as much. (With a separate fob remote, the car key by itself will scratch the heck out of the remote in no time at all when they are jingling around in your pocket, or purse).
I have quite a few questions about accessories that probably can't be answered yet. Maybe we need a new thread for this stuff... but...
1) Base audio system vs. Sport audio system? Is the base audio system expandable? Can I add speakers? An aux-in jack?
2) Source for 14" alloys?
3) Source for aftermarket cruise?
4) Keyless entry as a dealer-installed option? Key separate from remote fob?
4) Dare I say, aftermarket sunroof experiences? :shades:
I dunno, mods, it might be nice to have a thread about sources/experiences for all the things that people are going to want to tack on to their base model fit.
Yes, this is common with a number of vehicles today, including Daimler-Chrysler vehicles. Since the keyless remote "is in the key," so to speak, don't lose it, as you will be shocked by the replacement cost.
I will have some of the Fit Sport 15" wheels for sale very shortly. I have already ordered the 16" Honda Factory Performance wheels from the dealer. Should be ready to sell with in a week or 2.
Has anyone located an aftermarket bra for the Fit in the LeBra $60 price range? 'Fit' as a search word brings up a lot of hits (as in "fits 00-04 Civic", etc.)
Anyone hear of a roof rack and a hitch mount made for the Fit? I did hear from Zeta Products and they are making an armrest for the Fit; I had one of their's for my xB, and it was great. It should be out soon. BUT, I need something to put my bikes and kayaks on. With the spoiler, we can't use a traditional bike rack on the back of the car.
By the way, I am amazed by this vehicle, especially at this price. I love it.
Thule has a fit kit for the UK Jazz, but until they confirm the roofline has not changed for the NA models, they won't certify it.
I'm also wanting a hitch receiver for my Fit - purely for holding a bike rack, and not towing. If anyone was to make a receiver for the Fit, my best guess would be Hidden Hitch. They don't show it as available though, which makes sense, since the car was just released.
This forum is for the Honda Fit, a vehicle that was just introduced in Canada and the US. If you're looking for accessories for your Honda CR-V, you may want to take a look in Honda CR-V Owners: Accessories & Modifications.
Is there a way to install an aftermarket stereo (2din dvd/nav system)? It doesn't look like there would be an easy way to do to it with out a new trim piece.
Although I would like to have some of the accessories included, I can't believe anyone with any Honda experience is surprised something like the cargo cover is not included with standard equipment. A $35k Honda Pilot does not come with a cargo cover; do you really think it would be included on a $13-15k Fit? If anything with the Scion being a model, I am surprised more things aren't accessories.
Johnny, I was unsuccessful trying to find Zeta Products website. Would like to buy an armrest for the Fit. Could you put up the URL for Zeta or let us know how to contact them? Thanks.
I mentioned this in another forum, but it's buried in pages of discussions by now.
If you take off the 14 inch wheel covers - you see... The same exact steel wheel that Honda used in its DX/base model Civics in the mid 90s. Yes - the one with the 20 or so small round holes around the edge and as ugly as sin. So ugly, in fact, that it "seeps through" the Fit's plastic cover like it's almost not even there.
I talked to the local dealership's parts department and verified that it uses a standard Civic type bolt pattern and offset. So *any* 14*5.5 inch alloy what will fit a previous generation Civic will work.
Honda currently sells 7 and 10 spoke models that were originally on the late 90s Civics, but that it also kept as an option for the Civic Hybrid.
Part# 08W14-S5D-100A - 10 spoke - looks nice, IMO. Part# 08W14-S5D-100B - 7 spoke - look interesting. $169 MSRP, but they actually pay closer to $100 each, so there's a tremendous amount of haggle-room, especially since you're paying MSRP for the car, most likely.(~800 profit margin) Their boss won't fire them for selling you accessories at cost to close the deal - it's just inventory taking up space in the back(and 14" rims aren't fast sellers to be sure). So paying MSRP actually can be an advantage in this sort of situation.
Here is a picture of the Jazz with the 14" 10-spoke wheels.
It also has the body side molding that someone in a different Fit discussion had asked about. Note the side molding is also available in body-colored by Honda Access Europe.
You can find the shop manual on the internet (don't have the link here) There are 8 clips holding the side sill on and 4 screws. The screws are hidden, but it looks like the clips go in holes on the side of the car.
www.zetaproducts.net/ is the website for the armrest. However, it is not yet released, but will be soon. I used on their's for my xB, and it was quite good. Here is the text of the message they sent me:
John:
We are in the final stages of development. We will have an armrest available. Please keep checking our web site.

Are you planning on making armrests for the new 2007 Honda Fit? If so, I’ll be first in line. Thanks.
From the FIT Sport manual, observations, and asking the dealer: 1 - The LED is in the instrument cluster. Is Red and is on solid when ON (not flashing). 2 - Manual says that alarm will activate from key button or from door lock. It protects all doors and hood. It will not activate if any doors are not closed or if key is in ignition. It will deactivate on key open button or on key in door lock. 3 - Salesman said Honda can make Valet key at less cost than remote key. Do not know price. The alarm will turn off on key opening door, so you do not need to carry remote key if you invest in valet key. 4 - Alarm is honking horn. According to manual, alarm is 2 minutes on and then off for some period and then back on. I saw no references to vibration sensor in manual.
A nice line for the bodyside molding is from the clear area of the taillight in the rear to the orange in the front headlight housing. This would be just about the level of the turn indicator on the Euro Jazz. Body color would look unobtrusive.
From Honda's gallery it states, With tons of available accessories, your Fit will be a true original.
I counted 16 available accessories but most of them are stuff that could have been standard with the car. Only 5 of them are what you would really call "accessories" which are the alloys, ipod link, leather/aluminum shift know and steering wheel cover.
Anyone know if they are coming out with more and what would it be? Locking gas cap, map light, 2nd key, seat height adjuster, center arm rest, European alloys, body side molding? :P
What American Honda is offering for the US market Fit is hardly what I would call "tons of accessories".
Honda Access Europe has quite a number of accessories for the Jazz. I might check to see if someplace like College Hills might be able to import. My dealer has already told me they only sell/order products with US part numbers!
Maybe not the side sills, but the owner's manual (page 146) talks specifically about the Sport model having reduced clearance on the front and rear bumper sills. It even includes a diagram showing the front sill scraping the ground.
Not that big of a difference, but the original poster was not totally off-base, since the owner's manual discusses it.
However, some of the information on "bottoming out" applies to both base and sport, IMO.
That's why the Fit has the black plastic "udder" in the center rear of the car. It's supposed to let you know when you're going to bottom out, before you actually cause any damage.
Pardon my ignorance, but what do I need to do to the honda.rar file once it downloads? Does it need to decompress? If so, what do I use to decompress it?
Files with the extension "rar" are in the native format of the file compressor product "WinRAR". If you go to http://www.rarlabs.com/download.htm, scroll down to where you'll find "English WinRAR and RAR release", then choose "WinRAR 3.51", to begin the dowload of the trial version.
ZetaProducts web site now states that they will have two types of armrest for the Fit by early May. The two pics they give look great, but i'll look forward to more info. Also, both models of armrests will utilize (and therefore eliminate) the center rear cupholder (behind the emergency brake).
Anyone hear about a roof rack!? Both Thule and Yakima have no information. It's kayak season and I need to get out there!!
I saw that the Jazz(fit's name in Euro/Asia) is listed as having a 450 kg towing capacity on the Australian Jazz website. I also saw a page that listed a "jazz" tow hitch. Don't know if its available stateside, but I've seen Prius owners with hitches used for exactly the same thing, and Prius' were not built with the intent of taking a hitch. I'm sure someone local to you could put something together for you. Here is a link to a PDF from Ireland showing some sort of hitch...not sure if it has a standard receiver?
I would not think so you would be going down a wheel size. Just make sure you keep to the proper aspect ratio of the tire/whell combo. Why would you do this by the way?
The turning radius on the Sport is larger, because the tires are wider. Reduce yourself to a 14" alloy, with a tire the same width as the stock base, and you'd get the base's turning radius.
I was wondering the same thing at first, but then I figured the glove compartment doesn't lock and there is no trunk...so there is no real need for a valet key.

Right, but don't you think the turning radius is set to what it needs to be for 15-inchers? Just because I put 14-inchers on the car, doesn't mean the car automatically "knows" that it can turn farther, right?
Why you woul do this by the way?
I thoroughly test drove both trim levels and prefer the ride quality of 14-inchers.

The "udder" is metal though, not plastic.
Does anyone have some good links to inexpensive accessories for the Fit. I am looking for an armrest, overhead storage, and bumper protectors.

I ask because I see the turning radius is different for the two trim levels.
