very few vehicles, making sure to get it right."
You must be new to Edmund's Yukon/Suburban forums! GM is very very slow, and they "sometimes" get it right...
:c) Dave
I was leaving the interpretation to the reader.
No, I'm not that new to the forum. But I am buying a Denali, so I can't be too cynical.
the new Denali. There have been allot of problems
with new vehicle introduction and it normally takes
a year to "work out the kinks". After reading this
forum I've decided to cancel my '01 Denali order
and hold out until '02. I am going to my dealer
first thing Monday to purchase on of their last
remaining '00 Denali's at a fantastic lease deal.
I am getting an '00 Denali for $35,400 which
includes the current GM rebate and a lease of 48
months with $1400 drive off and $480 per month.
I figure I'll early term my lease in favor of an
'02 Denali from the same dealer. That way I should
avoid any early term. and misc. fees.
I have always liked the current body style Denali
for its muscular looks and aggressive stance. Even
though most of the components and chassis are quite
old they have proven themselves year after year. My only concern is the weak braking but I figure I'll correct those with a set of Brembos.
If anyone else has had this problem with there
Denali’s or Yukon's I'd like to hear their
solutions. 'till then OUT

This isn't any better that what I looked at 6 months ago on one of these for my wife's ride. They were offering $600 month, nothing down on 3 year lease.
I decided to take an Expedition instead (msrp $39k, purchace price $33k) on a 2 year lease for $500 even, nothing down. I figure in two years, GM will get it right (including financing options), and if so, I'll get one then.
The Ford Red Carpet lease worked really well for me for a short term (2 year) lease for my '93 and '95 Lincoln Mark VIII and would highly recommend at least considering it. Not to sure if they would write up a GM vehicle but I can't see why they wouldn't. Your dealer could care less as they would still sell a vehicle, just to Ford Credit Corp. If not, maybe consider an Expedition for the two years. Not sure if you are a true GM loyalist but the Expedition is a worthy consideration. My $.02. Hate to see anyone get the short end of the stick.
As for FMCC I am staying clear like a dog with rabies. I leased a '97 Expedition for 2 yrs and had nothing but problems with FMCC. I have even been included in a class action lawsuit brought against them by other lessee’s. I wouldn't lease through them again even if they could write a 2yr on the Denali.
All in all I feel I getting a deal I can work with and the payment won't break my back every month. I'm sure that in 2yrs I'll be able to work my way out of the lease with no problems if I’m planning on leasing a brand new '02 Denali or '03?? Escalade.
To "joelis", the $1400 I'm writing a check for is to cover the drive off only, actually my lease will be $0 cap and $480.00 for 48 months, that doesn't sound to bad to me. OUT

I ending up paying the early term. fee of $300 but that was it. I admit it is not a common practice but with a little work it can be done.

$1400 is a lot for upfront costs. I assume you are including a security deposit of $500 in that. At least get them to waive that part, as well as putting on new tires. Those firestones on it are probably flat spotted by now from sitting in the dealer lot for so long.
I don't mean to belittle you, but you really are paying quite heavily for getting out of a lease early. They may be crafty in finding a place to hide it, but believe me, they will find a way. I have been through over 30 vehicle purchaces and have learned a lot on the inside about how it can be done.
Good Luck.
"Road-Sensing Suspension monitors suspension, steering, and other inputs 1000 times per second. Real Time Dampening adjustments occur in less than 30 milliseconds - every inch of the road at 60 mph."
This is the same system that is in the STS. I can't wait for the first one to hit the ground.
Also, anyone have any definitive information as to whether they are building any Denali's as of this writing, presumably in Janesville, WI?
It seems logical that the Denali and Escalade would be built in the same plant, since they are so closely related.
I’m also informed that the Sunroof for the Denali is on 100% constraint. So no sunroofs for awhile.
Production is underway at a very slow rate according to the Yukon Brand Manager. He tells me he is driving one of the early production vehicles. Full Production should be underway starting in November. I think this plant is new to SUV production, was producing just the pickups before (and Impala’s before that).
I’ve canceled my order after two TPW came and went. I decided to wait for a few months to re-order my vehicle, it just seems even more confused than the normal GM confusion.
It seems bizarre how hard it is to spend a lot of money on a GM vehicle.
Fellers asked about the factory. An article I read recently said Janesville, but I don't know for sure.
Let us know when you get it.
I didn't order the sunroof. I've left one open in a rainstorm before and my hair is thinning on top so, there are a couple of good reasons I don't need one. Sounds like sunroofs may be on constraint and that may be why mine is on the way.
The invoice says the interior is 922 Pewter Ultrasoft Leather. The new brochure however calls the color Flint Gray. When I get it, I will try to describe it.
Also, the base price is less than on GMC's web site. - $45,950. Edmunds has the price right, but GMC appears to have it posted wrong. Maybe there has been a slight reduction in MSRP.
My dealer works with a local ASC dealer and recommended them to me. You'll find a map on their site that will identify a local dealer anywhere in the US and Canada. Prices seem to range for the unit used on the Yukon XL from $1,000 - $1,200. I hope this info is helpful.
http://www.ascglobal.com/aftermarket/venting.htm
As far as the third seat is concerned, could a split seat be substituted from the standard Denali? I understand the greater need for one in the shorter model, but it still seems odd to me that GM would not offer even the option of a split third row on the XL. I need the XL specifically for the adult-sized rear seat and cargo space, but 99% of the time, I will need only one half of those third seats.
And for those of you that already have one (or a 2000+ Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban) is is practical to park in a garage with standard (8') single-width garage doors? Does anybody do this every day? Do you have to fold the mirrors in to do it comfortably?
Thanks for all the other great info on this site;
-Greg
Thanks for your comments. ;-)

you could talk about the true color of the
interior. Describe the two tone color as to
whether the Pewter is a light grey or really a
neutral. Are the seat inserts really graphite or a slightly darker shade of light gray? Also describe the color of the dash and the silver paint. I have one on order with Pewter and am scared that the color will be too grey. I also sent you an email. Thanks.
Detroit - The all-new 2002 Cadillac Escalade announces it will be priced at $49,990 MSRP at introduction. The 2002 Escalade will be in dealer showrooms the first quarter of 2001.
"We feel this is a very competitive MSRP for the luxury SUV market. With its 345 horsepower engine, StabiliTrak, new standard third-row seating and all-wheel-drive, the 2002 Escalade is an extraordinary vehicle for the price," said Escalade Brand Manager Susan Docherty.
The '02 Escalade is also available with a two-wheel-drive package which includes 2WD, a 285 horsepower engine (replacing AWD and the 345 horsepower engine) and does not include StabiliTrak. With a 2WD package credit, the
Escalade with 2WD package is $47,990 MSRP.
Featuring a unique blend of power, performance, style and sophisticated technologies, the all-new 2002 Cadillac Escalade creates a new standard for
luxury sport-utilities. As the first sportility vehicle in the Cadillac portfolio, Escalade has successfully attracted younger, more affluent, import buyers, especially "early-adopters" who tend to acquire and embrace technological innovations.
"The Escalade has been a catalyst in attracting a new and important customer to Cadillac showrooms," said Michael J. O'Malley, Cadillac general manager. "The 2002 Escalade, with its distinct design and innovative technologies,
signifies a direction for Cadillac's portfolio that will further broaden Cadillac's appeal."
The 2002 Escalade builds on Cadillac's heritage of design leadership with a bold new shape, while pioneering meaningful technologies that customers want and use. The new-from-the-ground-up, second-generation, full-size Escalade is the first Cadillac to reflect the division's fusion of art and science philosophy by blending forward-thinking technology with an expressive new
design.
Leveraging years of award-winning GM truck experience and a new architecture, the 2002 Escalade expands market coverage, now with standard all-wheel-drive and an available two-wheel-drive package, each offering distinct performance differences. It also marks Cadillac's first export SUV for the Middle East, where GM SUVs dominate the market.
The new Escalade is unmistakably a Cadillac. The exterior joins telltale Cadillac cues with sheer, chiseled forms and sharp lines, setting the tone for future products.
The Escalade's bold design is the first in a series of future Cadillac models with a new form vocabulary that reflects Cadillac's art and science philosophy. Crisp, tailored lines are set off by Escalade's prominent, powerful front end, displaying Cadillac's new wreath and crest.
In 2002, Escalade receives a new engine, delivering strong acceleration, a smooth ride and quiet operation. Escalade now has the most horsepower and more torque per liter than any GM SUV. This high compression engine generates 345
horsepower at 5200 rpm and 380 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm. The engine links to a new Hydra-Matic 4L60-E HD (heavy-duty) electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. 17-inch wheels and tires contribute to Escalade's smooth ride and impressive handling.
The Escalade equipped with 2WD package is powered by the Vortec 5300 V8, which makes 285 horsepower at 4600 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. at 4000 rpm, resulting in 30 more horsepower than the previous Vortec 5700. Plus, the 5300 delivers 90 percent of its peak torque over a wide band from 1600 to 5000 rpm. The engine is coupled with a standard Hydra-Matic 4L60-E electronically controlled
four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive.
"Escalade's exclusive 345 horsepower engine, coupled with sophisticated chassis control technologies, like StabiliTrak, parallels the acclaimed Northstar system found in the Cadillac DeVille and Seville," said Susan Docherty, Cadillac Escalade brand manager. v The Middle East export version offers the same design and performance features as the Escalade, but its
exhaust system has been modified to run on leaded fuel and it does not have OnStar.
AWD capability gives Middle East customers the added traction to handle sandy or loose gravel and accommodates off-roading activities, which are common in that region of the world.
StabiliTrak(tm) is standard equipment on the Escalade (not available with 2WD package). Computer-controlled road sensing suspension on Escalade improves vehicle balance, ride comfort and wheel control.
Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, combined with improved lighting and braking, safer seat designs, side impact air bags and premium level OnStar, complete the Escalade safety and security package.
Escalade's interior is more comfortable, luxurious and practical for 2002. The
redesigned cabin provides more head, hip and second- and third-row leg room than before, without an increase in overall width and slight decreases in height and length.
Seating has been expanded to eight passengers through the addition of a standard third-row and testing shows the seats offer best-in-class comfort. The addition of the removable, 50/50 split third-row seats gives the Escalade
a new level of flexibility and utility, an important factor to customers. The seats are supportive and covered with Soft Nuance leather. The first two rows of seats are heated.
The interior also has best-in-class climate control, a spacious floor console that flows up into the instrument panel, and a state-of-the-art Driver Information Center. A new best-in-class 11-speaker Bose(r) Acoustimass(r) audio system debuts on the Escalade, along with an in-dash, single-load six CD changer. A special acoustic package delivers a quieter ride.
Just wondered, what was the manufacturing plant on the sticker?
Other impressions: Very upscale vehicle. The 6.0 engine has a distinctive strong sound to it. The transmission oil temperature guage fits nicely in the instrument cluster and is on lower left. The teal background instrument lighting is cool. The Denali I saw had the sunroof with auto-temp control for the front. Stereo sounds great and 10 way seats are very comfy. The front facia limits front ground clearance and might not lend itself to the cornstalks of pheasant hunting land. The Pewter is definitely grey! The grill is very striking and distinctive with lots of chrome! This will be a headturner. I talked to one owner who said the steering is unique when returning to center. Not bad not good, just had to get used to it. Made in Janesville, WI. It would have been nice if GM used chrome instead of the silver paint like the European Dealers have on the console. GM needs a GPS option for this vehicle. That's all for now.
I received some information from a contributor to this site and he indicates that the wood in the Denali is real even though it looks fake. This info was related to him directly from the brand manager.
My personal opinion is to wait to see something in person, especially at the price of these vehicles. I did that with my 2000 Yukon. After I saw one in person, then I special ordered one with the color and options I wanted. No, I wasn't the first with a Yukon, but I am still only one of a handful in Atlanta with a Fire Red Yukon.

I called many dealers over the summer and I've been getting calls in the last week that these dealers now have one on the lot or expect it any day.
According to Yukon brand manager, production started early October at slow rate and was to be up to speed by beginning of November.
Your dealer must not have an allocation.
