Im planning to get an Eos when i get out of basic around November time frame, and i was wondering what the difference was between the three models and a few insurance quotes from ppl. Thanks alot, Jim

    I love the Eos!!! :shades:

I had had a Cabrio, and was very excited when I heard VW was coming out with a new convertible. The price surprised me (higher than anticipated), but the High Octane gas surprised me even more. :surprise:

Does anyone use lower (mid-range or low-range) gas in their Eos? Would like to know how the car runs on other than High Octane.

The tech guys at the dealership said that it wouldn't negate the warranty, and all I would see would be less gas mileage.

When I bought my Eos, I really grilled the specialist who gave me the run-down of my new car's features. I've never put anything other than regular in any car I've ever owned, so to go from reg to super gas was a real turn-off for me. I'd already purchased the car, and this guy didn't have any motive for selling higher gas, so I trusted his advice. Here's how he explained it: If you put in the best gas and get better gas mileage, over the course of a year, the actual cost is decreased because you use less gas. He also believes that the car operates better if it's given the fuel for which it was designed. I've filled-up three times and it still smarts to select the premium gas, but I'm getting used to it.
Good luck, you'll love an Eos!

    2.0 Turbo- Automatic
  • vwguild1vwguild1 Member Posts: 98
The 2.0L Turbo will, in fact, run better & perform better(MPG) using premium fuel...We have a 2006 GLI with DSG and that is all that I heve ever used. On the other hand I have a '76 MBZ that only likes 89 Octane.
  • hammer760hammer760 Member Posts: 15
If you really think about it, the avg cost of super/premium unleaded is 20 cents per gallon more so it costs no more than $3 extra to fill the tank with the better gas. I'd rather pay the extra $12/month or $144/year to make sure the turbo injectors stay as clean as possible with the cleaner burning fuel, rather than shelling out possibly hundreds more to fix or replace the turbo.

    Hi Carman,
Can you share the lease info for the Eos 2.0T, 12K miles, 36 months in NYC area?

Thank you again, you always come through for me!

I meant to also include Auto tranny... thx again!
  • jscholzjscholz Member Posts: 1
I've tested the 2.0T and 3.2. I'm leaning towards the 3.2. Anyone have thoughts on the 3.2?

I live in the Seattle area. Have wanted a convertible for 10 years and finally after a lifetime of family cars I have the coolest car I have ever owned.

Buying experience was excellent and I was lucky beyond belief. Bought the car from a wonderful sales guy at Chaplin's Auto Group in Bellevue, WA.

Have been researching my Eos purchase for quite a while. Had driven an Eos last week in Las Vegas. Loved it. Came home and decided we would go look today.

One of the things I have not seen mentioned on these boards is the Costco buying plan. Today is the third car I have purchased using that program. If you are not familiar with it, you contact a qualified sales rep at a Costco qualified dealership online or by phone. As soon as I had filled out the web request, I was called by the sales rep. He asked me about three minutes of questions about what I was looking for. He then sent me an e-mail with his contact info and I replied that we would see him about 11:00 AM today.

When you use Costco, the deal works that they have a list of the "Costco" price for every model. Depending on the model and its popularity the price on your car is listed on the list. For the Eos (with the current popularity---they had three) the Costco cost was $500 under MSRP. Once they give you the list, they can no longer play the bargaining game with you. You either take it or leave it. If they try to play the usual pass around to the sales manager with you, you can turn them in to Costco and they are off the program. Not something they want to be.

We went in this morning and got there about an hour early. Our sales guy wasn't there yet (he was scheduled to come in around 11( so another salesman pulled up an Eos for us, filled it with gas, and told us to drive for an hour. We loved it. No salesman. No limits. We ran it up Snoqualamie Pass, through a bunch of curves, pushed it to 80+ on I-90 and had a great time.

When we got back to the dealership, our guy was there and lo and behold he had the EXACT car I was looking for. I wanted a 2.0T with an automatic (but not the Triptonic), the Luxury package and I didn't want to spend for the high end bucks for the high end sound system as I plan to put in a secondary system. I was looking for the Island Gray with a black leather interior. And there it was. They had three on the lot and that exact car was sitting right next to the front door of the dealership.

We did a quick test drive of that car, told him what my trade-in was (I have a 2001 Subaru Outback wagon that I am giving to my daughter and I am trading in my daughter's 1998 Subaru Outback wagon that used to be mine with 100,000 plus miles). I told him that if they couldn't offer me more than a grand, I would just donate the car to charity. He said they could give me three. My wife said, "$300?" and he said no, three thousand. We were shocked.

Pre-trade in we got the car for $34000. Thrilled to death! Had planned to spend about $2000 more and thought I would have to wait weeks. Drove it home. And what do you know, as they pulled the car out after prepping it for us, the sun came out (yes--here in Seattle!) and I got to drive home with the top down. I am still in heaven.

Had a great purchase experience at Stohlman in Fairfax. I recommend them.

Anyway, I picked up a brochure on the extended warranty. I looked over the brochure and in the specifically excluded items, "hinges," "body parts'" and "convertible tops" are listed. Am I reading this correctly? If we had bought the extended warranty, the one thing that would be the biggest problem wouldn't have been covered anyway?
  • vwguild1vwguild1 Member Posts: 98
You should clarify this with the Dealer...That may be referring to soft "convertible tops"...

    Hello everyone :),

I am currently in the process of purchasing a paprika red VW EOS 3.2L with black leather interior...w/o the tech or sports packages...simply basics on the car :shades: .

I have been working with a VW dealership here in upstate NY near my college. Before I even negotiated, the dealer offered me the car for $35,500 and he's getting it trucked to me from Philadelphia ;) ....it was hard to find a basic 3.2L with black leather interior across the entire eastern seaboard . I think $35K is about $600 over invoice, so that is an awesome deal for a 3.2L right?!

What do you all think of the deal and color choice? Should I look or ask for something in particular?

If you own a paprika red with black leather interior please post them. I chose the black interior to avoid stains from my clothes or my passenger's clothes...and overall spills and accidents in the car!

Thanks so much for your help. This is a great forum!

    Hi,
I have been following this forum for a while, after seeing my first EOS back in February. The info here has been invaluable in my research.
I just put money on a 2.0t luxury pkg. Eismere blue, Cornsilk interior, with Dynaudio sound. Should be in dealers hands later this week. Can't wait! After many years of driving the old boat ('93 Taurus with body damage since '03).
My deal may have been on the high end, from what I've seen hear. However the Dynaudio option may have contributed.
I came to my dealer prepared to ask about roof leaks. He claims they have only seen one complaint from a customer who had run it through a high pressure wash. I plan on hand washing mine (with the help of my daughter, it's the only way she will get to drive it.)

    Thanks, I'll keep watching.

    Read, the EOS lease questions,

He went to wash car for the first time, and it leaked. Also had electrical problems. Congrats on your EOS!! :)

I got my Eos (My first VW and my first German car) one week ago.

Island Grey, 3.2, Luxury, Sport, Tech, DVDNav and Big Rubber Floot Mats.
I only wanted Luxury package, the rest came with the only 3.2 that color they could find. Given the choice, I would never had thought to add the rest of it but I am real glad I did. Also, the 3.2 is so worth it - car has some serious muscle and, be warned! it does not like to drive slow.

VW of North Attleboro, MA - wholesale +750 (I am not used to paying more than $200 over dealer cost but my salesman really worked for this one so I won't complain.), I got $500 under blue book for my trade because of high miles; again, no complaints... overall, the shopping/ buying experience was excellent - salesman was fab.

I did not get the iPod attachment or the Bluetooth phone attachment done before I purchased, service wants way-to-much to do it after delivery... make sure you get dealer options negotiated at the time of purchase.

Everyone with a horror story of owning a VW gone evil has shared it with me. Lots of people have complimented me on the looks and styling of it. She's running great and all the seals are tight but then it's only been a week... wish me luck. ;)

I'm looking to buy a 3.2L Eos as soon as possible (I know, I know - bad time of year to be in the market for a convertible). I'm in San Antonio TX looking for a candy white with tan interior and some bells & whistles(nav, Bluetooth are musts).

Does anyone how much I should expect to pay in South Texas for this?

Should I wait until autumn in hopes that prices will go down, or is that a pipe dream?

I know you're supposed to get them down to something like "$500 over invoice" or something like that, but how do you find out what invoice is?
  • wintersfurywintersfury Member Posts: 5
Consumer Reports says that $200 to $400 over Invoice is reasonable.
I walked in with a printout from the Edmunds site - it has MSRP and wholesale prices on it and asked the salesman how much over invoice he felt was reasonable. Honestly, we just negotiated in terms of "Invoice Plus ___" and "KBB Minus ___".
  • neelpatel16neelpatel16 Member Posts: 1
Hey, I live in Virginia and I was wondering what is the best price to pay for EOS. When someone says 400-300 over the invoice, is that Out-the-Door price??? I would really appreciate any reply. Thank You....
  • vwguild1vwguild1 Member Posts: 98
No...It is the price of the car...Tax, Title & Lic. are fees that the State keeps...Just like groceries or a TV

Has anyone bought the sealant lubricant that VW recommends? I understand it can be about $75 a bottle. :confuse:

Have only had my EOS about a week (and absolutely LOVE it)! It's great to know about the possibility of leaks before I wash it for the first time. Our monsoon season is over (Southern NM), so hopefully won't have to deal with a lot of rain until next August. :P
  • alicebaliceb Member Posts: 7
I understand you can tell when your car was manufactured based on the VIN number.

    Does anyone know how? :confuse:
  • wintersfurywintersfury Member Posts: 5
I got the lubricant from my dealership. Bought it at the same time I was in for 5k oil change.

I had to order it through Parts and, at that, I had to show them the page from the owners manual and describe it because they had no clue what I was talking about.

They special ordered it - apparently it's not something they found necessary to keep on hand - and passed it on to me for $51.

I bought a 2007 2.0T 6spd for my wife in Febuary. We got a few options and paid exactly MSRP but I traded in 2 cars and did well on the trades.

As for being slow get the 6 speed! The DSG is nice but the manual is more fun to drive. I had a little acceleration test against a Pontiac Solstace and I don't think he was very happy whren it was over.

However there have been a few problems which I'll post in the Leaking Forum (more than leaks)
  • jbryanjohnsonjbryanjohnson Member Posts: 2
I bought a 2007 2.0T 6spd for my wife in November (yesterday). Sticker was $31,399, paid $28,865. I think that most if not all the discount was year end incentive through VW. I spent very little time negotiating and was please with the discount and the amount on my trade. Finance was @ 6.6%

Low tire warning was on during test drive. Salesman said it was because the car had not been drove and that he checked the pressure to be good. Warning stayed on all the was home. All tires were at 29. I bumped up to recommended pressure of 34 and all is good.

There is a problem with the trunk latch. When I hit the button it pops open, but then pulls right back down. The only way to open it is to stand there with dandle in one hand and remote in the other, and pull while pushing release button.

This was my first experience with the Autobahn Imports here in Ft Worth TX. The salesman was very pleasant, but the wait for finance was long. All in all above average, but still a typical PITA new car buying experience.
  • alicebaliceb Member Posts: 7
I can't answer your question re the trunk latch, but I also had a problem with my tire pressure.

I couldn't get any of the free-air machines in town to increase my tire pressure when the error message went off. Apparently they don't have enough power. I took it to VW the following morning, and they said it only takes about 2 lbs. low to set off the error message. Also, I found out that the sensor is also attached to the spare -- so if you can't find a problem with the pressure of your tires, check the spare.

Bought 2007 VW mid summer and I love it! I bought the 3.2 V6 with all the bells and whistles and wow is it zippy! and the fuel ecomony is much better than I expected!! averaging over 25mpg when I'm not driving with a lead foot!

My seals are creaking so I'm ordering the lubricant. When it rains, water pools in the pasenger door jam but doesn't seem to present a problem. I'm weirded out by the "give" in the transmission... it's an automatic but rolls back like a manual and there is sometime a hesitation in take off ... does this seem right to you all?

The only other very strange thing - I heard a very sharp metallic pinging noise one night and couldn't figure out what it was... took it to the dealer and they said it had something to do with the exhaust flex pipe? anyone else had this strange noise?
    Thanks! Trish

Purchased 2008 Eos Lux Paprika Red Cornsilk. Paid exactly invoice as listed here on Edmunds and other sites. List $35,729 paid $33,327. They did stick me with the $400 advertising fee....But they also drove to Austin to pick the car up and bring it back to the Dallas area for me...So I consider that a wash. I used the Edmunds email blast option, and every dealer came back with invoice, one dealer (can't remember who) came back with invoice less $100. But for a car in demand I'm happy. Lewisville VW sold it to me.

I live in New Jersey and have been pricing the 2007 Eos. Now that the 2008 is out, it seems to be the same price. Does anyone have any experience with a dealership in either N.J., N,Y., or PA. in purchasing this car? What is the best price I can expect to be quoted for the base model with auto trans? thanks.

just purchased a 2007 2.0T Lux auto, (Island Gray-Black interior) that stickered at $35,764. Negotiated down to $30,100. Trade in was the same from all dealers. Had a better deal ($29,995) at another dealer on same car, except it was Paprika.

I made my purchase at Billco Motors in Wexford, PA (just north of Pittsburgh). Great dealership. Very professional and courteous. Will buy my next VW from them again.

    Just a small note.
I agree that getting a good deal is important.
Standing behind a good deal is priceless!

My story is rare but true. My dealer has provided the highest degree of care and support.I was one of the first to buy the 07 Eos when first released. I loved everything about it. Unfortunately at the time it had one major flaw. It leaked when it rained. I had it back to service several times. At a point it was embarrassing. Never did the dealership's attitude change. From the salesperson to the service department and management they were great. With their help the car was replaced.Problem solved. Volkswagen of America was also incredibly helpful in satisfying me as a consumer.
I must say this was not only refreshing but rewarding. I am a loyal supporter of this wonderful car. I have owned practically every car you can think of. Yet this car is something special. The support and genuine care received provided that unthinkable value Service. The Dealership is Gunther Volkswagen Fort Lauderdale Florida. A place where they stand behind the product at no extra cost.
You could not pay for a better advertisement. SATISFACTION.

Really liked this car at the recent Chicago Auto Show. Kinda pricey so ---- I'm interested in finding "best" price for 2008 Eos in Chicago area. Would appreciate any hints as to searching via internet (what are good sites?) or dealing directly with daelers. Any tips would be appreciated.
  • cb391cb391 Member Posts: 24
You can do it on the internet. I believe Edmunds has an area where you can configure a car the way you want and then that info will be sent to dealers in the area. I think you can use cars.com and drivechicago.com. They work in a sim ilar manner. Going to dealers one by one is a pain and and using these sites lets dealers know other dealers are also making you an offer.

Just bought an 08 2.0T with heated seats, custom painted pinstripes, dealer undercoat/sealant/interior protection, monster mats. MSRP'd @ 29,442. Paid 28,100. It was the best deal I could get in negotiating with 5 different dealers. St. Louis area. It might be a bit high however I got what I wanted on my trade-in. It all boils down to trade difference if you're taking in a trade vehicle. Any other Missouri/Illinois experiences out there?

I'm looking at making an offer on a new red 2008 Eos Turbo 6M with heated seats and i-Pod adapter as the only two options. The build date is 07/2007 and CARFAX confirms this VW dealer has had it since 09/2007. Seems to me the dealer should be REALLY wanting to get rid of this car (it's a small town in rural Idaho and winter is coming on soon). What do you all think would be a reasonable offer for this '08 now that the '09s are here? He offered $28,640 and said that's about $500 over his invoice. I'm thinking of offering him $28,000 flat -- wishful thinking?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,891
I don't believe it is wishful thinking at all. Anything over invoice on something that has been sitting that long is too much, IMHO.

Hell, it has been sitting for over a year so it already is in need of servicing! I would make sure they throw that in (needs the oil changed at the very least).

I have been watching the convertible prices on Ebay for about three months. Almost 95% of the cars never get sold because the reserve is never met. I have seen some cars listed since February, 2008, and they are still for sale. What's the story with these car dealerships? There is a glut of cars, yet the dealers still aren't willing to make a reasonable deal. Does anyone know of anywhere in the New Jersey area that has leftover 2007 convertibles? Maybe I could afford one of those.......
