Good to see post of this information - Have PT 2001 LTD at 92k , it did the mystery fog light on without prompt =dead battery, then would not shut off. After several attempts by local mechanic - fog lights went off - sure after reading the post here the problem will arise again. Did anyone discover a recall - local dealer said he did not see one or the problem flagged.
po420/p0420 --p0700 --- p0562. My car started hesitating when I pushed the petal and when I stopped at red light it sound like a throttle. Help me on what to do so that I will not get riped off
and on codes: http://www.ptcruizer.com/computer-codes.html
monday i will try calling a chrysler dealer to request ideas. understand dailmer chrysler has a dealer only accessable website for help & perhaps they can check the database for recommended recall services suggested versas those performed on my vehicle. any ideas or suggestions are most welcome.
p.s. it has the 5 speed & gets 21mpg
expect out of my p.t. crusier before the engine needing a complete rebuilding ? This would be on maintaining it
by factory specs .

2.4L Engine Oil Gallery Misdrilled- A small number of 2.4L naturally aspirated engines may have been built with a misdrilled #1 oil gallery in the block. This will result in engine knocking and engine failure.
I'm assuming that the dealership should have a list of all warranty work that was done on this car and now I realize that I should have asked before we bought it.
We will see how I make out at the dealership this morning.
chris... thanks for the info on the block heater

As for you ASE, I trust you, that's why I contacted you. Anyone whose willing to give out that info, must be for real. Mike is my mechanic and he too is certified by ASE, he's just not a Chrysler guy. As for having it in front of you... well unless you can teleport to Lancaster, CA (edge of the Mojave Desert, best place to the middle of nowhere), I doubt I can accomodate that. Though... if it's not too much trouble is there a way I can contact you either via phone or email if he can't get this resolved.
You can contact me at: evesgird@verizon.net
Sincerely

I took the challenge you posted on this page 10-Jan-2008 and found that you (#284385 aka RWCarroll) actually have been expired since Jul-2001. No one has to take my word for it, though. All anyone has to do is request a Cert form at the ASE website, fax it in to ASE @ 703-669-6122 and you will get a response within two days.
You actually did not prove anything about yourself...
i was just wondering if you have found out what is causing this problem?
Thanks Ray
It has been a year since our PT was possessed (see my previous posts in the #60-65 range on this board) and, as I said before, the problem...just...stopped... happening. Wish I could give a reason, but the only thing that was changed by the mechanic was a perfectly good fuse ~ and it is only because I insisted on it that he changed that.
Hope I haven't jinxed myself now.
I don't know if this is good news or not to you, but from our experience it is best to take it to a competent independent mechanic and not a dealership. The dealer's solution is to start replacing wiring harnesses at $500 a pop until the problem goes away. The indie gearhead is more practical and economic. Just be prepared to be without the car for a period of time as it will not be a quick 'fix'. Our guy had the car a week the last time. But since he couldn't find the problem and did no changeouts, he didn't charge us a dime for it. I love the guy! He's in Mount Vernon, WA.
Well, I'd start by disconnecting the negative battery cable before you try to charge it. After it is fully charged reconnect the cable and see if the problem goes away.
Weird things have been known to happen when the operating voltage is too low. On my old car I knew my battery was low when the wipers would come on automatically.
2" PENDING- I need a repair manual! G. Poling
What can be the problem? Any opinions?
The dealer is going to charge you a big fee just for scanning the fault code, before he even fixes anything.
Covered by the warranty. I have had to replace the battery twice. Last October I was driving up a grade on the freeway and the car made a horrible noise and started smoking and stalled on the 101. Very scary there was smoke in the car and fluid leaking all around.
I had it towed to a Chrysler dealership and they told me that it was a clutch and they needed to replace the clutch assembly. The vehicle had 27k miles on it!
This was not covered. So we paid for the checkout and towed it to a dealership where I worked and they took it apart and told us it was the clutch assembly flywheel, the trans case had a huge hole in it!
This should have been seen if it was taken apart by the Chrysler dealership
The vehicle has been hesitating for the past three weeks and the check engine light came on. We replaced the gas cap and the light went off. Well now the light is back on and now hesitates when I turn on the heater or a/c. Any suggestions
besides trading it in on a honda?

A good start would be to learn what is producing the fault code. Ask some of the big chain auto parts stores if they still do a free code scan. I know AutoZone used to but it's been a few years since I last had one done.
The fault light will probably go away but if it is still an active fault it will reappear within a few days. It might be something as simple as a bad spark plug wire.
I had defective oxygen sensor in another car. I would reset the fault by disconnecting the negative battery cable but the light would come back on several days later. I eventually took it to Autozone and they scanned the code. I replaced the bad sensor, cleared the code one last time and everything was fine.
Any suggestions besides trading it in on a honda?
I think I'd rather pedal my bike to work in the rain and snow.
Any other solutions would be greatly appreciated.
well i am a single mom and my mother before she passed bought me this car, paid cash and so i had no car notes. the dealer said all he could give me was a down payment on a used car .... and i only had the choice of 1 (that right ONE car) on the whole lot well long story short i need a car i took it now i know am i trouble it's a 2005 kia sadona van 13600.00 / 325.00 a month hope this does not happen to you ....
Hmm...I just checked the retail value of a Sedona LX in excellent condition. With the basic trim and 45,000 miles on the odometer it has a Blue Book retail value of $12,180. If you have the higher end model (Sedona EX) it's worth $13,870.
Anyway, that price for replacing the water pump sounds like typical dealer service department high prices. Call around next time to some of the independent repair shops and have them give you a quote.
I know it's too late to do anything about your Cruiser repairs but you may have something go wrong with a vehicle later.
