My 1997 Explorer engine cratered with about 1800 miles on the car due to an oil pump failure. Ford could have merely overhauled the engine, but they wanted to tear it down to determine the cause of the failure. I, of course, wanted a new car, but ended up with a new engine instead. So in answer to your question, yes ka ka does happen. The important question is: How will Hyundai handle it?
By the way, even though the recommended oil change interval is 7500 miles, I think it's a good idea to change the oil much earlier the first time. There's a lot of nasty stuff floating around in the oil early in the break-in period,
Good luck and enjoy the rental...make 'em give ya something really nice to enjoy!

I have a Sonata 2008 4 cyl. I started getting Airbag and passenger seat-belt signs blinking. Whenever a passengers seats the seat-belt light does not blink, but airbag warning on my dashboard is still turned on. I went to the dealer and they told me to replace the cushion for the passenger which costs $1200 pluse $250 for labor. I am wondering if anyone has run into the same issue and was able to resolve it without spending 1200 for a cushion?
Thank you.
Thank you

NHTSA Campaign ID Number: 08V161000
Recall Date: 2008-04-10
Summary:
HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 393,308 MY 2006-2008 SONATA VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN ADVANCED AIR BAG SYSTEM WHICH FEATURES AN OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS) IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT. THE PURPOSE OF THE OCS IS TO DISABLE THE RIGHT PASSENGER SEAT FRONT AIR BAG WHEN IT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF A CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM OR SMALL CHILD IN THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT. THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG IS DISABLED TO PREVENT INJURIES TO A CHILD THAT MAY RESULT FROM A RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG INFLATION DURING A CRASH.
Consequences:
MISCLASSIFICATION OF A SMALL STATURE ADULT AS A CHILD IN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAY CAUSE THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG TO NOT INFLATE IN AN ACCIDENT THAT MERITS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT OCCUPANT.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL VERIFY THAT THE OCS DOES NOT PROPERLY RECOGNIZE A PROPERLY SEATED ADULT OCCUPANT. AFTER VERIFICATION, DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE RIGHT FRONT SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY AND SHIP IT TO AN EVALUATION AND REPAIR FACILITY. THIS FACILITY WILL EVALUATE AND REPAIR OR REPROGRAM THE SEAT CUSHION AND OCS AS NECESSARY. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MAY 26, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
Component Affected:
AIR BAGS

Thank you.
I wish I saw your comment a bit earlier. But I did and I found out that there was a recall for my model and when I provided them with my VIN number they confirmed that my car was not repaired for that recall. either way they need to do something about the recall. I hope this will help other owners as well.
Thank you

Well, I went to the dealership and showed them with the recall from safercar.gov. Unfortunately, from what they told me, my car's VIN is not part of the recall on hyundai's database as a result I need to have it fix with my own expense. They are looking for a used part that matches my car. But thank you for taking time to give me an advice.
Thanks
