I sympathize with you and thank God your family is O.K. The problems with GM vehicles have little to do with union labor and a lot to do with bad engineering. For example, your 3.6 liter engine has 3 timing chains! Why the complexity? It makes no sense. Most vehicles have one. Each timing chain requires tensioners to prevent slack in the chain. If the tensioner fails, then the chain skips and kaboom, good bye engine. GM simply does not possess the engineers that can design reliable, durable overhead cam engines. Their best engines were the old tech overhead valve engines (3.1, 3.5, 3.8, etc.). Until GM can prove it can build a high quality overhead cam V6, I would stay clear away from their new vehicle offerings. My two cents worth.

I have not spoke to Customer Assistance. Our dealership (Piehler) was right on it and had the transmission fixed within 2 days. It still does not "feel" like it used to switching gears (it's a little rough at times) and now the steering has a creaking sound. Other than that it now goes in reverse and past 30 mph. I guess since the transmission was not totally replaced I will always have a problem. Too bad because as a family we love the car.

    traci4,
If you continue to experience concerns I recommend speaking with the dealer as soon as it starts. Please also email me and let me know if you continue to experience concerns.

I have a 2007 Acadia with 55K miles. The transmission just blew up while I was about to get on the freeway yesterday. GMC says they are going to replace it, but not until next week. So far they haven't given me a rental car, which I was originally told was included in the extended warranty. I am frustrated with how many major things have gone wrong with this car. Two years ago with only 20k+ miles on it the steering went out, last year it started leaking water inside the vehicle. I'm concerned about what's going to happen next? The 5 year warranty will expire next year, but it has very low miles. I guess this is the problem with buying a new model car when they are first released, but you would think GMC would have this figured out. Not very excited about the price of tires and general maintenance on this vehicle either....

    Christina,
Thank you for checking on me.
The car is at the dealer, and they told me that they will replace the engine with a new one. I've been told it will be 3-4 weeks before we get it back.
At least they were nice and put my wife into a nice rental GMC Yukon
My wife also told me that the steering started to make noise, I'm afraid that this could be another issue.
    Thanks

I have had my Acadia from the start and I have had a knocking noise that happens when i accelerate right when I start the car around the 5-15 mph mark. It sounds like there might be a loose ring but the dealership has never been able to replicate the noise (go figure) Has any one else experienced this???? Thanks
  • heyyou1heyyou1 Member Posts: 8
I've owned this car from day 1. I went into the dealership to look at a different car and was turned onto the Acadia by a salesman. I saw it, drove it and fell in love with it. A couple of months into it and the radio went out. After a month of not hearing ANYTHING about a replacement radio, I went to a different dealership...they finally got me a stereo...but my problems didn't end.

Next, the sunroof leak. While it was there, I was told the sunroof was MY FAULT because I didn't keep the drain plugs clean...ummm, what drain plugs? I've NEVER had to clean drain plugs. "It's YOUR fault sir...but THIS time, we'll clean it for you...if it happens again, you have to pay for it". While it was there, there was a recall for the transmission software and "loose bolts"...HUH?!??!

Now, here I am with 130k miles on the car and I'm on my SECOND motor, THIRD transmission, been in FIVE times for the sunroof leaking, the steering gives out periodically, THREE times for the AC has gone out, I've spent well over 45 days without my car while it's in the shop and it's BACK at the dealership AGAIN for the transmission.

I've been in conversations with GMC directly and worked with Leo, really nice guy. He just doesn't seem to care that I am riding around in a death trap with my wife and kids. I asked for assistance to get OUT of this car and into a new one and I've been virtually laughed at and told I had not spent enough money OUT OF POCKET in repairs to warrant any assistance. never mind the $1,400 I spent on the 75k mile warranty I was told that would cover me for an EXTRA 75,000 miles only to find out it ended at 75k on the vehicle. Then, let's forget the EXTRA $1,100 I spent for a SECOND extended warranty to cover me until I hit 110,00 miles...yeah, I didn't spend ANYTHING out of pocket. And let's not even mention the rental car costs I've had to pay...but NOOOOOO, I haven't paid enough out of pocket. :confuse:

I'd like to find a good class action law suit lawyer to challenge GMC on this mechanical design flaw of a vehicle and get an AMICABLE resolution. I'm not looking for a freebie hand out, I just want to be back in the position I was BEFORE I bought this vehicle....no loan and $5,000 in my hand to put down on a new vehicle....heck, I'll even give GMC another chance. I've been a Ford/Mazda/Volvo owner my whole life until this vehicle....now, I'm wishing I never left the Ford family of vehicles....at it's CORE, this car is a :lemon:, no if's, and's or but's about it. If I can't find a good lawyer, maybe I can find a good TV station interested in documenting the WONDERFUL history of the 2007 GMC Acadia....POS car.

So, any of you wonderful GMC customer service reps on this message board REALLY want to do some good?!??! Go to bat to keep a customer who REALLY has gotten screwed by your employer. :(

You sir...are a glutton for punishment. No way I could put up with a vehicle that treated you like that...and once upon a time I had a 2007 Acadia.

My husband and I just bought a 2011 Acadia on Oct. 25th it was a used vehicle with 26K miles on it, one previous owner and is should still be under factory warranty. It is the first vehicle we have allowed ourselves to spend more money on and get what we really wanted, needless to say we were in love with it and extremely excited to have something so new and nice. Anyways while out running errands on Oct. 31st it started making this horrible clunking noise, my husband who is pretty handy with vehicles thinks its something in the motor...:( So we get it towed to the dealer here in town and are now worried that we might have to pay $8,000 to get the motor replaced on it because the first owner (avis rental in Portland, OR) won't return calls to our dealer about the service records on the vehicle. I find it pretty disheartening that we had the vehicle not even a week have a major issue with the vehicle and may have to pay for the repair because it may not have been maintained properly by Avis even though this should fall under its warranty issues. Not only would we have to pay all this money but it makes me wonder how dependable the vehicle is going to be in the future, we are expecting our first child and were looking for a reliable family vehicle that was comfortable and roomy for long trips since we travel frequently. Now we are with out a vehicle, and are waiting for them to tear the motor apart and make a judgement on whether or not the repair is because a lack of maintenance by the previous owner or if we will actually get to be covered by the warranty, all this could take about a month to get straightened out. I even feel a little betrayed because we have been such loyal GM vehicle owners and never have had an issue before so to be treated like its our fault the vehicle breaking down is somehow our fault and having to pay a huge bill like that when we are budgeting right now for a child just really makes me sick to my stomach. I guess we will see this week when they figure out the exact issue.

Good luck Kristin. So far, I don't feel like GMC really cares a whole lot about it's customers. The only sense of urgency with getting things resolved seems to be in the customer's domain, not GMC. As bad as things have been for GM and the auto industry as a whole, it's surprising that GM would be so cavalier with ANY current customer, whether they are new or long standing...one would think they would do ANYTHING to keep a customer happy so they return to buy another vehicle. I've got a wife and two teenagers....right now, I'm not feeling like I'll buy an GM for my two sons nor support my wife if she decides to stick with GM....she has a Saturn now and feels betrayed with them going out of business...service on her Saturn is painful.

    Good luck. :confuse:

We bought our GMC Acadia new in 2009. I have had several problems with my car being dead when I go out to start it. It usually happens in the winter but has happened in the summer. I have had it to the dealership several times. Last time I had it in they couldn't find anything wrong with it but in the past two weeks it's been dead 4 times. I just got back to work after being off 6 months fighting cancer and cannot get it into the shop again, but why would I pay to have it looked at AGAIN if they're going to tell me nothing is wrong with it. This has been going on since we bought the car.....is it a LEMON? :lemon:
  • svctechsvctech Member Posts: 1
After we fill up with gas. Sounds like starter engaged but car doesn't start. Turn the key off and on for about 3 times if final starts. We also discovery that if you push down on gas pedal a little car starts. It doesn't matter if you have a full , half or 1/4 tank of gas when filling up. The problem happens every time. I have taken it to the dealer. The problem doesn't for them. The other problem we have is popping or cracking sound when turning in steering column. I also think there is play in steering.
The car was a pre certified vehicle. When purchased the display showed 19 mpg. 2 months later its getting 15.3 in the city. What kind of gas mpg is everybody else getting?
Does the 5year 100000 warranty cover steering rack system?
  • hoppybillhoppybill Member Posts: 5
    In May 2007 we purchased our New GMC Acadia. Drove it to the east coast for a family gathering. Many along the way commented on how Great it Looked. Looking back now, if they only knew;
Timing Chains replaced after 42K miles. Covered by warranty
Steering System, (Yes Everything), 56K miles Out of pocket as the steering system is not part of the drive train
Electrical Wiring harness for Left head lamps replaced, Out of Pocket, over mileage, 116K miles. The wiring harness actualy burnt from something???
Transmission replaced after the rear clutch plate broke(??) No cost - The dealer said they felt bad over the issue???
Now my headlamp burns out again only on the other side, passenger side, I took it to a local repair shop. They replaced the socket, Again melted and burnt. The replacement socket sold locally as they clain GM is aware of the electrical issues.....

I am most concerned as this vehicle in 4-1/2 years, while we drive it alot, it is all highway mileage, is now a fire hazzard waiting for a moment to happen. I spoke with the GMC Dealership and he confirmewd the socket was melted and burnt, indicating a fire. His response was to give me the 8oo number for GM??

    Customer service at its finest.

I will never buy GM again as I wasted 47K dollars on a lemon.

No, steering rack system is not covered by 5 yrs or 100,000 miles. The problem has been known to many owners that a rubbing noise can be heard when turning left or right.
  • kristinyleakristinylea Member Posts: 2
Just wanted to update everyone on our status, our motor is going to be covered under warranty so we will be getting a new motor for our vehicle and they are going to cover the cost of a rental car we will have had which is a great relief to us. Hopefully we don't have any other huge issues with the vehicle but will probably look into an extended warranty.

    Thank you for posting, hoppybill.

With the 800 number, you would be able to set up a case with Customer Assistance. It would open an investigation into the situation you're describing to see how GM can better assist you towards resolving this concern. There are no guarantees as to how the process will turn out, but it is a thorough investigation.

    Hope this helps to clarify,

I have a 2012 Acadia Denali, which I love...but the driver's seat has developed an annoying creak in the seat frame when I turn left. I am taking it back to the dealer today to have it looked at, but am very anxious that they will take the seat apart and I will be ladened with ongoing problems. Has anyone else experienced this, and had a good outcome with repair?
  • heyyou1heyyou1 Member Posts: 8
My 2007 Acadia did the same thing and I was told, without them tearing it apart, that it is within the normal range of movement and the squeaking is just because it needs a little lube. From that point forward, my seat always move a hair when I hit the breaks suddenly or jumped on the gas. It's an Acadia...what can I say.

I had two cylinders go bad this last go around, I had to pay to fix it...now, the air conditioner is blowing hot air.

They've made me a slap in the face offer for the troubles I've experienced...I'm crafting my letter to Akerson now...Happy Holidays.

Just found out my 2008 Acadia with 40,000 miles needs a new water pump and new tires. Seventh time it has been in the shop for repairs this year...clogged drain causing water to leak out of the visor, sunroof seal not working, missing nut causing a clunking noise, multiple times for stability trak service light going on, sensor for tires not working right, radio problems, etc., etc. Are these normal problems for a four year old car with this amount of mileage. My husband has an 11 year old Explorer that has only been in the shop 2-3 times EVER! My dealer has been great, not so sure about the car though! Also, does anyone else have the problem about seeing out of the rearview mirror when you first get in the car and go to back up and it is dark...you can't see a thing!

    Caron......
Sorry to inform GMC, but after all that fighting to get my 2007 GMC acadia claim paid for due to the dealership stating it was the timing chains, the problem of the "Service battery charging system" has still been going on.

I felt that it was not a big deal, except for the past 3 months every time it rains it comes on and yesterday with my 3 yr old grandaugher in the car, my whole car started shutting down!! Let me remind you it was pouring down rain, windy and cold (I was fearfull I was going to be stuck on the side of the road with my grandaughter), so I immeditaely called Onstar. They said the code that was coming up was for monitoring of my airbags????
In the meantime I drove directly to the nearest dealership so they could see what my Acadia was doing and get to the problem because obvisously it was not the timing chains!!!!
I waited for almost 2 hours and the service dept came to tell me they could not find anything wrong with it, because all the codes that were coming up they checked and that was not the problem, so he went back to drive it to see how it loses power and came back to tell me they think they found the problem!!!! It is some kind of box located under the driver panel that seems to be letting water into which then is shorting something out causing all the mixed signals to the vehicle!!!
They put me in a loaner car so they can take the time in the next few days to looks at it better and find see if that is truly the problem!!!

Now here is my dilemma!!!! Who should pay for this?? I don't feel as I should because I alread had a claim on this same problem not even 6 months ago and the problem has never gone away. I have left a few messages wtih the GMC specialist over the last 2 months when I had this problem and never recieved a call back from him. I left another one this morning stating the problem still happening and what was going on!!
Can you help me figure this very frustrating problem out???

I mean really I can't help but be upset that this vehicle is not even safe for me to drive and then to have my family at possible hram while driving this car is even more upsetting to me. Everytime it rains I have this problem and I have also had the steering lock up on me as well with the belt squeaking sound still, but as I mention ONLY WHEN IT RAINS!!!!
    Thanks
    Rachel Bahnsen

If you have a SunRoof on your 2007 and you bought it used, get rid of it as soon as possible. If you bought it new, GM is well aware of all the problems the leaking sunroofs caused. Once the electronics got soaked once the problems never go away.
As far as the timing change, GM shortened the OIL change cycle downwards because of the timing change issue. ON the 2011 and 2012's they went to synthetic oil because the regular oil just did not protect the timing chain well enough.

    Safety....
The REAL question is, how do you know GM is well aware of the sunroof leaking problem? What are they doing to resolve the problem? My car STILL leaks and it's been in the show half a dozen times for the leak. I REALLY think there is a class action law suit staring us in the face...if GM KNOWS about this problem and does nothing to fix it, all it takes is ONE person to get seriously hurt and this becomes gross negligence...
  • rbahnsenrbahnsen Member Posts: 29
I can not agree with you more on this!!!
Like i mentiones in my earlier post I've had my power steering go out 4 times now while driving inthe rain of course and I am truly afraid that my vehicle is not safe especially with my family in it due to all these problems going on with it....

How do you start a clas action lawsuit?? My neighbor is an attorney I will ask her this weekend
  • rbahnsenrbahnsen Member Posts: 29
Yes I have a sunroof and it was factory installed.
Not so great news to hear that GM knows about it and won't do anything about it!!!
Well I am still waiting to find out what the shop says the problem is..
Wish me luck and even more luck with GM owning up to the problem and standing behind their vehicle!!!

Yes, GM is well aware of the problem. Save your time and energy on the suit... many have tried. You don't think its a coincidence the roof rack system looks different on the 2009s and newer. They just don't want to do a full recall and probably don't have the answer for a poor design. Quick review... I bought a 2008 acadia used... didn't realize the water problem (after doing what I thought was a ton of research on the model - had foreign, but with three kids needed something bigger - so bought first american ever). It leaked after having a month and half... dealer was a good group... They said give them a chance to fix it. I said after the first rain if it comes back I want you to take it back - well it rained again and soak on two of my kids... I raised hell and had them break the sale - which I truly believe they never do since it was a couple of hours back and forth with the dealer and GM... dealership was awesome... bought a new one 2011 at a mild discount. yes... I was out more money, but didn't want the headache especially since I know other mechanical stuff is coming at some point - its american for crying out loud - no issues with water at all on new one... I tell you though... after every rain I run my hand along the headliner, just to check... I have to let it go at some point)...

Ok... Here is the deal... The dealer WILL NEVER be able to fix it. No matter how good their intentions are... poor design and your headliner will be ripped to pieces. Awhile back I found a post somehwere (i probably read hundreds of posts on this - yes hundreds) he is the deal... i guess GM had cut a few holes (two?) for some additional rack of functionality on the stationary moon roof. They decided to not go with the design for some reason and plugged the holes with that foam which leaks through... the pillar tubes have been an issue, but I think most of the water comes from the moon roof... and here is the clincher... you can't see the holes from the bottom, .i.e not by removing the headliner... ok the post said that they took it to a glass guy - the type that replace windshields... who removed the stationary moon roof from the top... once you do that you can see the holes pretty clearly then plug them with sealer, supposed no more problem. GM will not do this for you -- they can't... If you want to avoid the headaches: legal, GM customer service with no answers, but polite replies, service at the deallership with no real power... try this route...

    Good luck!

    Hi Sarah ~

They fixed it for about a day. It's going back again on Tuesday. Now the passenger side seat is creaking, too. I know it's the seat frame and it only happens on left hand turns whem my body weight shifts to the right. Do you have any advice to offer me before I go to the dealer on Tuesday?

You and I were going thru our buy backs at the same time last year. I've had some minor issues, but saw your message about the steering wheel having to be replaced. Could you tell me more about that? Over the past few weeks when ever I turn the wheel in either direction it makes a soft swishing sound. I'm hoping this is nothing serious. I've seen some posts where they say the steering system isn't covered under warranty. The other issue I have is in the second row one of the captain chairs creaks really bad when I'm turning corners. It's gotten to the point that no one has to even sit in it and it will do it. I hate to have my car brought in because I'm afraid it'll come back out with more problems. The issues with the last Acadia were enough!

I purchased my Acadia brand new in 2009 and I've asked the service tech at the dealership about the loud knocking sound that I hear when I make a hard left/right turn or when I turn my steering wheel back and forth quickly to back in or straighten up. It sounds even louder and harder when its cold outside. It sounds like my steering column or axle is broken. What is this?????
I'm also ticked off about the problems I've been having with my head lights. They started out not coming on when I turn on my truck but eventually coming on after driving for a few blocks, until both of them went out last Tuesday (low beams only). I took my truck to a major car service center and they couldn't replace the bulbs or tell me if it was just blown out bulbs because GM manufactured the vehicle so crazy that you have to remove some parts under the hood and the grill to get to the dog gone head lights. I took it to the dealership the next day just for them to break the news to me and tell me that it wasn't just blown out bulbs, my sockets and wires had burned out on both sides (left & right low beams)...geesh! The parts were only about $75 but the labor was $290 and I had to pay out of pocket because I was over the 3 year or 36,000 miles warranty (48,300). Its almost the same thing with the park lights. I was going to let a friend SIMPLY replace my blown out park light, just to find out I've got to take it to the dealership to have it replaced because the front bumper has to be taken off to replace it....dang it! Well, the dealership replaces the bulb, with the wrong color. When I bring it to the service technician's attention he says to me, "Well Ma'am, GM changed bulbs so that white color looking light that we put in there is what they are using now, but I will check some other dealerships to see if I can find you another bulb like the other three that are in there (orange color)." That was 5 months and even after calling and asking three 3 times I still have 3 orange park lights and 1 white park light. I even suggested they change them all while they were fixing my headlights last week since they are responsible for the mess up(park lights), but Noooo, I still have 3 orange park lights and 1 white park light.
If anyone knows the part number for the ORANGE park lights in the 2009 Acadia please let me know, maybe I can HELP them find the bulb!

I am a former GM employee and I've never owed a GM product until now and this will probably be my first and last GM vehicle. I think I may be going back to the foreign car market.....sorry. :(

I'm sorry that it wasn't resolved for you the first time around. I believe you're taking it in today, correct? Thank you for your patience and for continuing to work with us on this and I look forward to hearing how the visit goes.

For the knocking, has your dealership proposed any causes?

Also, I'm not 100% positive that this is what you're looking for, but could the Sylvania bulb, part no. 194NA LL, work for your parking lights? Let me know -- I'll continue to search.

I have had this problem now for months and months. Had it at a GMC dealer 3 times now. First there was a grinding noise in the steering colum and the blinkers would not make a sound when turned on and the stereo sound would just quit. So they replaced the steering colum. Well it is still doing this, the radio sound just quites and the blinkers dont make that clicking sound. So this time the dealership put in a new radio. Well now the radio doesnt shut off when you leave you vehicle. What the heck is going on? Has anyone else had these problems.

We have the same issue with our steering. Our blinkers do not make sounds in our car randomly because one of the speakers just decided to no longer work. Our radio shut off completely after year 2 and had to be replaced. Our Acadia went from being our favorite car to our worst nightmare.

We were fooled by our 2007 Acadia's beautiful design and interior room, within 6 months we were completely frustrated.
Within the first few months of owning the car the transmission stopped reversing in my driveway. Had it towed and needed a completely new transmission.
Within the first year the engine needed dropped because of a leak and "power chain".
Within the second year we had the radio completely replaced because it suddenly shorted out.
Within the 3rd year we had the engine dropped two more times, once because of stabilitrak light, another because of a coolant issue.
The stabilitrak light has been on NUMEROUS times.
Three of my 4 windows currently do not work. One switch fell completely inside the door when my mother attempted to put the window down!
The lightbulb replacement cost approximately 400.00! (It is extremely difficult to do this yourself).
The interior headlight nob just concaved the other day inside my dash?!
The Stabilitrak, Check Engine, and message, "Reduced engine power" is one of our several current issues.
There has never been a time since the first six months of owning this vehicle that there hasn't been something wrong with it. There has always been SOMETHING. DO NOT BUY a GMC ACADIA. YOU WILL BE SORRY!
    :confuse:

    Ineedaricci...

You need to go check out a new page I found, some guy is blogging his experience with his Acadia....ihatemyacadia_dot_com...he's got a message board too...looks like he's just starting though...I'm waiting to see just how bad his situation is and if GM does anything for him...I've had little to no support, in my opinion, from GM.

    Good luck

I'm sorry that you've had so many repairs with your Acadia. Have you worked with Customer Assistance already?
