My father-in-law has a 2006 CR-V SE. By design, you cannot lock the driver's door from the inside of the vehicle, then close the door (the door will unlock itself). Does anyone know if you can override this "auto-lockout" feature?
Yes, it is in the OWNER's MANUAL. I highly suggest that whoever operates this vehicle knows the manual from cover to cover. There are lots of useful information. Some irreversible damage may have already been done if the manual was not followed.

I realize that there is lots of useful information in the owner's manual, and I always read mine cover to cover. However the question was asked by a person who does not own the CR-V (or the owner's manual). A little slack might be in order... in my opinion, of course.
You pull on the inside handle after the door is open and lock the door. When you close the door it should stay locked. Hope that helps, despite the lambasting some give, that is what these forums are for.

The person asked the question for the father, who owns the CR-V, and I assume is not blind (how can he drive) or illiterate (how can he read road signs). Hence should have read the manual PRIOR to operating the vehicle on day to day basis. I wish dealerships forced people to read the manual and gave them a quiz on it, before letting them take the car home.
These drivers are a threat to everyone's safety when they try to figure out what each button does at 60 mph on a crowded freeway.
I read the manuals (and skim the factory manuals too). But I can't tell you all the stuff I read a day later (or even an hour later). Sometimes I don't understand what the text means and sometimes I want to know the reason behind something. And sometimes my wife is driving the car and I don't have access to the manual. And sometimes I'm too lazy to walk out to the garage and dig the manual out of the glove box.
The forums are for exchanging information - not for preaching at people or trying to correct behavior that you may think is wrong. If you don't wish to help someone, simply move on to the next thread. Thanks.

People may not like what I have to say, but at the same time little kids don't like eating carrots. Does that mean that you should just give in and not feed your kids carrots, even though they need vitamin A?
A very popular man (Jesus) said once: "Give man fish, he will have dinner tonight. Teach man how to fish, he will have dinner every night." This is coming from a person who does not believe in god, but the Bible is full of life lessons that people don't see or follow (even the ones who claim to be religious)
If you point people in the right direction where they can get their answers, isn't that a better long term approach rather than spoon feeding them?
It's how Honda locks have worked since at least the 80's. My 80's era Accord did not have power door locks (and of course no key fob) so it just became habit for me to do the handle lock thing as I exited the vehicle. IMHO it's an endearing quirk from an import brand.
I hope the original poster came back for the answer so his father will be able to lock the doors.
I'm probably the only one that tends to agree with blueiedgod on the issue, so I'm ready to take some flak for it. Still, even though on occasions he is pretty sarcastic, I share the general frustration with people that took the easy way just because they were plain lazy. I've seen questions asked regarding stuff that's not only in the Manual, but even in the quick reference guide, even just common sense. Not to mention the numerous times when a poster pops in to ask a question that's been discussed only a few pages (or days) in the thread, but they didn't think they should make that effort. Also, blueiedgod has dispensed some very valuable advice over the years, so I believe my Brother in Manual deserves some slack.
"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will go out and buy expensive fishing equipment, stupid-looking clothes, a sports utility vehicle, travel 1,000 miles to the "hottest" fishing hole, and stand waist deep in cold water just so he can outsmart a fish. Average cost per fish: $395.68. Give a man a fish then!"
Notice how I found one with SUVs in it?

on my 05LX, I hear a continuous click-click-click- when the turn signal is engaged and steering wheel is returnig from max steerings ( to the left or right). Also, while driving to a complete STOP (at a stop light for ex), I hear another click coming from inside the auto stick where the P,N,D,R are activated Car still in warranty...went to the dealer...said it's "normal" for all GEN2. It's actually annoying. Too many clicks...like there's something's cracking inside every time I make a turn or stop.Cheap thing feeling.. :lemon: Anyone else encountering this? thanks
"how much gas is left in the gas tank when the orange warning light turns on?"
My 2003 generally had about 2-3 gallons left at the "E". The light will come on temporarily if traveling on a hill, fast acceleration, etc. So I generally went with the "E" marker. But I would say 4 gallons when the light comes on.

I am currently leasing a 2004 CR-V with about 45K miles on it. About 3 weeks ago I was leaving work and my car would not start. When I turned the key absolutely nothing happened. After trying to start it mulitple times and ruling out issues such as the battery & fuses I had it towed to the dealer. When it arrived at parts & service it somehow started with no issues. I figured it was a fluke incident and drove my car home. For about two weeks everything was fine and one day it happened again when I was trying to leave for work. I have now left it at the dealer for over a week and they haven't been able to recreate the issue and cannot offer a resolution. I am very disappointed and do not like the idea of being randomly stranded...especially with a fairly new vehicle. Has anyone been able to resolve a similar issue? Any suggestions?
Wow, that was an awful lot of commentary for a simple question!
For the record, my father-in-law and I are both well education professionals who also happened to work in a shop during our college years. Each of us has read our respective owner’s manuals, in addition to the technical reference manuals and bulletins provided by Honda. We are both very familiar with the engineering, service requirements and pattern failures associated with our vehicles.
Maybe I should have been more specific with my question: Is there any way to permanently disable the auto lock out feature on the CR-V?
Personally, I close the doors on my Accord while they are still unlocked, then use the key to turn the outer door lock to lock all four doors and roll up all for windows. This is a neat trick I found in the owner’s manual
any one knows how the 5 spd auto tranny in the CRV works? In reverse, it is whining like a manual/clutch tranny. Then soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal, I feel the engine brake kicking in almost like in a manual tranny . Car does not has too much moving inertia like most of the cars with automatic tranny. I constantly have to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep constant speed, or use the cruise. Thanks, Dan
Hello all, I have a 2005 CR-V that I did my oil change in a local shop. I am sure the person who did the service is not for CR-V as he put a sticker for my next oil change after 3K miles instead of the recommended 10K miles for 2005 CR-V.
Anyways after the service, I hear some sounds when I give some gas at 0mph. I feel the sound comes from a lose belt or something like that. Anybody had similar issues?

10,000 mile oil change intervals are only for a ahndful of people who fall under the normal conditions described in the OWNER's MANUAL. 98% of poeple out there do not fall under Normal conditions.
So, unless you do fall udner "Normal" conditions, you should not wait 10,000 miles, but do it at 5,000 miles as the OWNER's MANUAL recommends.
Service departments sell service and they'll try to upsell you stuff you don't need or that's not required by the manufacturer, like too frequent oil changes.
I change the oil in my minivan every 7,500 miles like the manual recommends, but I'm pretty normal. :P
Im having the same problem with my 2004 honda crv, did you the dealer correct your problem. Let me know. I just took my crv back to the dealer today. Ill let you know if they find anything.
I spoke to the Honda dealer who contacted Honda Technicians, they informed the dealer ship that when this happens put the car in nutreal and see if it starts if it the car thinks its in reverse and will not start, I beleive he told me that the cylinode needs to be replaced. If you tell you honda dealer ship this they will know what the problem is. Also they can contact Piazza Honda in Philadelphia. Hope this helps.
Hi, I am getting an ERR message on the screen when I try to play a CD, I have checked the owner's manual and tried what it suggested which did not help. The dealer wants $200.00 + to take it out and ship it to a repair facility. Any ideas, thanks
Hi all. Just bought the great little loaded '05 recently. Have noted '05 top of the line USA stereos come with Sat rad capability with [the same] button referenced above reading: "CD/SAT". HOWEVER, though I've read some old blogs on this, does anyone out there know if the Canadian unit can [somehow] make use of the "CD/Aux" button via routing an Aux input into the unit?
Again I've read you may have to remove the unit to look at the back to see if there is an open 14 pin connector "join", but short of my having to do that first, does any fellow Canadian EX-L owner have first hand experience on this Aux input subject to pass along? Have seen some aftermarket "Y" fittings which would seem to permit installation of an Aux sourced plug in, (for my sat rad, or..), but seems even this is dependent upon the available plug ins, (or absence of same), on the back of the Cdn. unit. (In '06 Honda made its "I Link" system available, I've noted). Any DEFINITIVE help available out there re: this '05 model year question? Don't want to go the RF transmitter route, but might be forced to use the tape adapter setup for my sat rad. I guess, unless........?
Got it brand new form 6th Ave electronics for $400 shipped. Just received the XM tuner, PAC steering wheel control adapter, and iPOD cable from Crutchfield.
Will install when it is a little bit warmer than 30°F outside.
I am planning on installing the XM receiver in the stock location in the rear panel, run the wires under the door sills. This way, I can the stock location for the XM antenna, and install the GPS antenna where the current XM antenna is installed by the roof rack.

I had it in the local paper here in Birmingham for about a month. Sold it for $14,600.
The first person that looked at it bought it, so I guess I must have kept it in pretty good shape.

Yeah, I wish it did. The best I've been able to figure out is to just scroll past certain posters.

Right decisions are not always popular decisions.
It was suggested that we avoid being preachy. I second that motion.

Thank you!
The dealer should be able to verify the starter is receiving proper amps/volts. Also, the starter relay should be checked.
Anyone else with thoughts/opinions?

1) Read the Owner's Manual
2) See if you can lock it with the key.
If netiher mentions/works, then I guess not. Is there a problem with locking the vehicle with the remote or power locks?

This Kenwood has Garmin navigation plus it'll play those CDs:
I remember in the mid-'90s, I was shopping for a car, and told them I wasn't interested, unless they added the CD player...
"Why do you want a CD player so bad?"
" Because when I spin them on my finger, it doesn't sound as good." :surprise:

You would have to remove the radio to determine whether your head unit has a plug available.
