Is it time for a new pool to see who can post the first unwrapped '03 4runner photo in all its glory? THE RULES: #1) Buzzlight excluded; #2) has to be an angle shot with no anti-spy coverings whatsoever. THE PRIZE: membership in the Edmund's 4Runner bulletin board hall of fame. Current members are Cliffy and RWard.
This is an exhibition, not a competition...please, no wagering.

As far as the '02 vs '03 debate, I'm waiting for the new 4Runner. As I've stated in numerous postings, the current model lacks too many things that I want in an SUV. At the top of the list are power and better interior, especially the joystick shifter and placement of it. Additionally, I really want my next truck to be an all-new design. But the current 4R is a great truck, and I've had a hard time weighing it's short-comings against it's bold design, high ground clearance, and quality, especially after they added the Sport Edition. For me, power is number 1, so that alone has always swayed me from the 4Runner, which is why I didn't buy one in the fall of '97, and haven't since.
Everyone has their own reasons for the vehicle they purchase and drive, and if more power and some updates to the interior and list of gizmos isn't all that important to you, I say take advantage of the current savings and get that 2002! It really is a great truck. I'm in no hurry to trade mine, so I'm planning on waiting until after December for the better deals and the addition of the V6, so I can test both engines out. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be the right decision for you. Best of luck!
I too can't wait to test drive the 2003 4Runner, but I also see some great advantages in purchasing this last year production 2002. The latest drop in price is one big reason alone. The 2003's probably won't see any deals come along for quite awhile...no kidding. Unless you have something very heavy to tow, the current V-6 is plenty enough power for American highways and will get you there with decent mpg. The 2002 has had a few years to tweak production and has refined an already great vehicle to be even more reliable. I'm always leary of first production models, even if it is a Toyota. Just a few points to note in case you want to get a 2002 and not too wild about having to leap on the "latest greatest" new vehicle coming out. I know, because I purchased a 1995 4Runner in August of '95, knowing full well about the new model coming out the next month. Got a FANTASTIC deal, and am still driving it with over 252,000 miles...it still looks good too!
Jamesbass1, what I've been told is that it's like the current liftgate, not a tailgate. I have been wishing someone would come out with a liftgate that could also double as a tailgate that would drop down separately, because there are times when I really like my tailgate for hauling or sitting on. Dodge is the first one to attempt it on their Power Box concept, and I believe DC has a patent pending on it. Leave it up to Chrysler to bring out yet another great innovation, but I wish Toyota would have thought of it for the new 4Runner. It would be that much closer to perfection!

Here's the quote: "Although Toyota will introduce eight NEW models this year including the Land Cruiser Prado (Lexus GX470)..."
Thanks for the update!
dark. I took it to the Toyota Dealer who sent me to a large car audio specialty shop. There they removed the entire stereo and directed me to a couple of smaller electronics shops.
I took it to one of them who replaced the lights that day; sort of ! He replaced the burnt out
green lights with ORANGE ones. This did not go over in a big way and I did not find this out
until I had the stereo re-installed back at the car audio place. I phoned the Toyota dealer who
had a technician remove it again, then back to the electronic shop who installed DULL
green bulbs instead of the bright OEM ones. Of course I did not realize this until I had had
the stereo re-installed back at the dealership. WHAT A HASSLE! After this experience which
took 3 days and numerous trips to various businesses, I am living with this part of the OEM
stereo illuminated with dull green lights and the rest of the dash and stereo with bright green
ones. It just wasn't worth the hassle to take it back again! Some day when I have 3 more spare days to waste I will have it done right. The whole unsatisfactory mess cost me about
$50.00 CDN. Good luck with yours!
I'm in the 4Runner BB hall of fame?????
Please, Cliffy for sure, but me? No way. There are others much more deserving.
:-)
Say, you wouldn't know of a cushy factory job where they would overpay me to do very little do you?
Besides my dealer owes me from the last debacle of my 2000 4RUNNER and they know it every time I am there (politely though). But really we are replacing the cars next year anyway so it will be either the Doc's 2000 TLC off lease in Jan., a new 2003 4RUNNER or a 2003 Highlander (so the wife can use it).
Just waitin for Sept. Hey I will try to find out where the local dealer is doing the drive and show thingy so I can do spy photo's.

Buzz is it possible you are just a bit gullable and your "sources" are pulling more than you leg?
Some people think I'm the poster boy for Toyota SUV's the way I rave about them. This is especially so when they see me packing all that gear into the 4Runner. They can't believe their eyes...which of course leads into another rave about the vehicle. Actually, it took me three attempts before I got the packing configuration down pat. So far, I've converted two family members, several friends, and god knows how many innocent bystanders!...now, if I could only decide between spending the bucks on the Cruiser, or sticking with the 4Runner. The great thing is that whatever choice I finally do make I can't go wrong because both are #1 in their class, and that my friends is a comforting thought.

Enjoy!
>the Sienna topic. I'm glad you're hanging around

Thanks for the bouquet :-) I enjoy these two forums the best. I've lurked in some of the others, but I just don't have time to contribute to more than the 4Runner and Sienna/Sienna Problem forums. There are a lot of nice people in both of them. It's also a real learning experience, finding out what does and doesn't interest people.

Then what would I do? (hee-hee, just joking)

Again, does ANYONE know the POWER RATING (??watts x4) of the 6-disc in-dash player?? Just for my information/interest. Thanks.
To say that it doesn't look ANYTHING like the GX seems a little extreme. The dimensions are identical and the over-all shape is very similar, especially if you look mainly at the middle picture from this month's Truckin.' I don't know why they wouldn't look similar in shape if they're built on the same platform. It will be the same height, width, and length, so how doesn't it resemble the GX? Now, I'm not talking about design details, because we can't see those yet, but I'm talking about the over-all shape. There's really no point in discussing this until we see it stripped of the black-out materials, but you seem so sure of your opinion when all we've seen is a chunk of black that reveals very little, other than shape and the grill.
I certainly don't want to seem like I'm attacking you, and I figure you may change your mind or you may hate it even more when it's finally revealed, which is fine. I might too when I actually see it. It may really be ugly, but to say that now just doesn't seem fair. Again, if that's your opinion I respect that, but I still don't understand it. If you said the GX was ugly, I'd understand better. But to compare it to the Aztek, even as a joke...?
That just doesn't look like the 4Runner pictures that tbcreative has shown. Can you give me a link to the site that tells the dimensions of the GX470 and the '03 4Runner and that it is built on the same platform?

I'll remove the picture in August for those people looking at old messages in 3 months

My 2 cents--the middle is the 4 runner and the other 2 pics seem bigger vehicles and may be the Japanese Prado which is the future landcruiser. I don't know though, eyes might be playing tricks on me.
