Hi I have a 02 Wrangler X and am looking for ideas. I kinda have the same system as you a Alpine 9833 and the ipod interface. Can you tell me where you mounted the interface? Also how do you like the 6x9 edgeauto soundbar. Oh and does the sub and amp fit in the Tuffy console. If you have any pictures it would help me. Thanks Donna

In 1/2 an hour I can be in the desert or in the snow. In 4 hours I can be at the coast. I really am lucky to live in Oregon.
Oregon Sunstones are a feldspar that is formed in basalt. They can be found in many colors and combinations of colors. There is one type called watermelon. It is green on the outside, then there is a red center and white between the red and the green. They are clear and when cut look as good as diamonds. The sunstones polarize the light, almost like a prism.
Central Oregon is a rockhounds candy store.

    Tom:

Yeah I am heading to Athens, Greece :) 9 days will be great but hard work, as this is a mission trip and we will be putting up drywall and putting tile down and such.

Yet my brother says he will break in the new Jeep for me if I wanted to. YEAH right I am breaking her in. The worst part is I have most of the accessories that I ordered ... except the Windshield Header :( So far I have the Entry Guards, UV top (I am a red head so I can't run completely topless without frying) & the Window Roll.

Well hopefully the train will be a fast one :)

I just put an order in for an Unlimited. Pretty excited, but gotta wait... I went witht e E package b/c I didn't want all the other crap that went with the H package. I want to change my radio so I can play my MP3/WMA on a CD. I know Crutchfield is a great site, but I am worried about theft (I live in Detroit!). I have heard about a tuffy box?, to keep it safe?. I also read about a new console by tuffy.

Does anyone know if it easy to change the speakers (or if its worth it?) and add a sub (maybe an amp to power the sub and 4 speakers), or if I should just get an amp to run the 4 speakers that it came with?

Are the factory console/glove box really that easy to break into?

I got more ?, but I'll wait til later. (hopefully not 6-8 weeks later)....

"......Are the factory console/glove box really that easy to break into?...."

Yes they are, and even if they weren't it probably wouldn't stop someone going after a high end system. Tuffy products are probably as strong as you can get.

On my 97 TJ with the 2.5L My up stream O2 sensor goes bad every month and a half or so. I pull it out, put in a new one and it will run fine again for another month and a half. The O2 sensor by the cat. does not go bad. Does anyone know what causes this or has it happened to anyone. :confuse: The only other thing wrong with the engine is the power steering pressure switch is bad. But I haven't changed it because it doesn't seemed to be that big of deal. It just triggers the Check Engine light. Thanks in advance for you consideration of this issue. :)

I'm pretty sure that the 05's play MP3's, take a MP3 disc down to the dealer and try to play it, c ya mike
  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
It's unlikely that you are repeatedly fitting bad O² sensors, so something is causing them to fail. It's unlikely (though possible) that it's an electrical problem, so I'd look first at whether there's excessive oil in the exhaust gases. Are you burning an excessive amount? Some types of gasket sealers and throttle body cleaners can also cause this problem.
  • davids1davids1 Member Posts: 411
If you get a hint of silicone on the O2 sensor, that will also make them go bad. Be very careful when installing.
  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
Well clarified, and that's what I meant by 'some types of gasket sealers'. If they're used anywhere upstream of the O² sensor, make sure they're labeled 'sensor safe'.

I got the Light Khaki Jeep, and called Tuffy this morning. They don't have a color that will match mine. The tan is not really close (what the sales rep said). What other options do I have?

Is it easy to add a sub in the console if there isn't one there now?
  • keatskeats Member Posts: 412
My Jeep is light khaki metallic outside, but dark khaki inside, and I believe the "spice" color, which Tuffy makes is supposed to be a close match.

But if I were going to buy one, I'd just get a black console. The guages are black, center stack is black, the shift and boot are black, cup holders are black, so what's a little more black?

Husky doesn't make light khaki floor mats either, so I went with black on those and they look great in the dark khaki interior.

Greetings Jeepem. I left my stock radio in (because of possible theft) but changed all four speakers to Infinity speakers. The sound if great and no theft issues, unless they want the stock system. Congrats to Bill and Laura on new Jeeps. Go Easy, John
  • offroadindaddyoffroadindaddy Member Posts: 9
I haven't got any silicone on any of the sensors that have gone bad. I am using bosch sensors. Also the engine does not burn any oil. When the sensors go bad the computer triggers a lean mixture code, and the exhaust smells very rich and puffs black smoke. The O2 sensor when removed is very thick with black soot. I have checked the air cleaner to ensure it is not plugged. My jeep does have one of those throttle body spaces installed and a snorkel. But I cant imagine any of that would make a problem. I also installed an electric cooling fan instead of the mechanical fan. When my jeep starts puffing smoke and idling rough I change the first o2 sensor and the problem goes away for a month and a half. One more thing. When the sensor is bad the jeep idles rough, and has sluggish power until I hit 3000 RPM then it takes off like normal. When running highway speed sometimes it will intermittently get sluggish and then come back and so forth.

Eh! Thanks for all the good tips from all the jeepers out there.
I have an 03 Rock Crawler addition, and I haven't been able to figure out what the difference is with this addition to the regular TJ / Wrangler. Could any one shed some light?

    Cheers!
    Ron.
  • keatskeats Member Posts: 412
    Hi, Ron,

Sounds like that might be a dealer add on package. Some Jeep dealers create their own "special addition" Jeeps. I have never heard of a Rock Crawler addition, but I have heard of the Wildbillicon *lol*. Pretty crazy. Besides, isn't the Rubicon supposed to be Jeep's rock crawler addition? ;-)
  • screamnscreamn Member Posts: 2
    Hey Keats,

I think it was the Hillbillicon! I did hear that the rock crawler was the early Rubicon...
  • jeepemjeepem Member Posts: 10
Thanks for the recommendation on the stock. I was thinking I could try the stock stereo for a while, but I'm a little unsure about how much power the stock can put out.
If I change the 4 speakers to infinities (or whatever), should I change them to 5" or stay with 6x9's?

Also, will I need a sub with those speakers? Like most other posters, I don't want to win competions, but would still like to feel a little bass.

The sales rep from Tuffy also rec. black, so everyone/anyone thaty has the khaki interior(...keets), which style did you get? Did you replace the whole console, or the the back half console?

What about the glove box, locks for the door so they don't get ripped off? Are those necessary or just more stuff for them to sell?

Thanks for the advice so far..

    Hi everyone,

I went to place an order for my new Jeep this evening and the salesperson said he
could not place an order for a 2005 (tooo late  ).
He also told me that I could place an order for a 2006 but of course the price would
go up ( dumb me :surprise: ).
I'm thinking of just looking for a really good deal on a used one.
Does anyone know for a fact that it's too late?
    Thanks

Man, that's a bummer, but it IS that time of year. They take a shutdown, I believe, sometime in June or early July, and then when they go back into production, they make the new model year's vehicles. Once they have enough orders to carry them through to their shutdown, they stop accepting orders. At least that's the way I understand it.

I would still go new, if I were you. There must be ONE out there within a reasonable distance that has the things you want????

........I have an 03 Rock Crawler addition, and I haven't been able to figure out what the difference is with this addition to the regular TJ / Wrangler.........

Could it be the 'Rocky Mountain Edition'?

Neither can I, but I'd I definitely remove them to see if the problem recurred after they were gone.

Oh crap! I hope that isn't true. I'm within a week of ordering a Solar Yellow Unlimited!! Maybe the dealer is just trying to get you to buy something off the lot??

I'm calling my dealer right now, I'll let you know what he says. If it is true I'm going to be VERY disappointed.
  • koolbreeze2koolbreeze2 Member Posts: 252
I would talk to the people at a reputable sound system business and see what they recommend. Listen to their demos first. The Infinities I bought have built-in subs and meet my needs. Those needs include a clear, rich sound that can be loud but not distorted. I am 60 but have to have loud rock and roll, R&B and Jazz. The stock radio holds up very well by simply cranking up the volumn. I am certain it would sound better with a major Alpine (my last car stero) but I have the top down alot and would not want to take the chance. If you start with some major speakers you can always build from there. Go Easy, John

I don't know what the "fix" was supposed to do, but I still have to go to extra trouble in order to get in here.

When I click on "message center" where this discussion is bookmarked, I get a couple screens about entering and leaving a secure environment or something like that, and finally I get an error message like this...

The item ".ef14c39/bookmarks" does not exist, it may have been deleted.

It then takes me back to the screen where I click on "message center." The SECOND time I click on "message center," I get to my bookmarked discussions, and then I am OK.

Try making a fresh bookmark for the Message Center and deleting the old one.
  • believebelieve Member Posts: 74
So this past Wed @ 2pm was the deadline for ordering a 05 !!! That means I
missed it by one day!!!!!!! I guess if I was meant to have it I would. That does
not mean that I will give up on getting a Jeep!
I did get a chance to drive the 4 cyl.....It was ok....I think I'll stick with the 6 cyl.
I owned a 91 years ago and it had a 6 cyl....BIG difference in power.
    Anyway
Thanks everyone for all the info!!! You guys are great.

You may have tried to access the bookmarks while the system was being restarted after Friday's rebuild and something got jumbled. Are you still experiencing the problem?

    Yep, still got it, Tidester.

Mac, I don't have a bookmark for the message center. I use the link on the home page of Inside Line. I call up the Edmunds home page, then I click on "Forums." This is where the trouble starts.

There is a link for "message center," and when I click on that, then I get the error messages. After a few error messages and clicking on "OK", I end up back at the page with the link to the message center. This second time around, I can click on message center and actually get to my message center.

    Hi all,

Well I have been to a few dealers to determine what color wrangler unlimited I like. My past truck was black, so I was looking for a change. I would like to get the dark grey interior to hide dog hair and dirt so that prohibits the light khaki which is nice.

While on the dealer lot I noticed that they offer the liberty and grand cherokee in a new exterior color, dark khaki which I like alot. Anyone know if this color will be offered on the wrangler in 2006. Any suggestions why or why not?

I am also still trying to determine what color beryl green is. It appears to me to look different, blueish on sunny days and more green on cloudy days, maybe it's just me. Anyone notice this with beryl green?

    Thanks........

Guess what ain't workin' now? The "contact us" program is messed up.

I described the problem and all, but when I hit the "submit" button, it said it could not create an account in that name. It THINKS I am trying to create an account!

Oh well, I can live with this inconvenience. I'll just have to keep going through extra screens to get here.

Lol, you're starting to make me wonder if I want to riding with you at Turkey Bay if I ever get down your way.

Ok, I'll sent a note along through the old channels; meanwhile you may want to do the delete cookies and history routine.

Well, the dealership I'm dealing with said I can still order an 05. The salesman talked to the "regional Chrysler manager" and he said I still can. We'll see. Maybe it's by region? I'm in the midwest and I know the Jeeps are built in Toledo, Ohio. Who knows.

Well, either I'll have a Solar Yellow Unlimited in 7-12 weeks, or a Silver Unlimited in a few days.

By the way, I read on another website that the 2006 Wranglers have a 4-6% price increase and they lowered the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty.. to what, I don't know.

    Either way I'm stickin with a 2005.
  • tsjaytsjay Member Posts: 4,591
Well, it's Saturday, which means that Ross Allen and I should be at Turkey Bay wheelin' with Thelma Jane. Thelma Jane is topless and doorless now, and it rained all morning. Weather radar showed rain all the way from my house to Turkey Bay and beyond.

    So, no wheelin' today. :(

Guess I can do some more testing of the picture upload feature. Here's another pic from Buttpucker Gulch. I was trying to get re-aligned, and when I backed up, I got the rear end kinda hung out over the deep part of the gully. Take a look.

Hey Tomster, apparently your issue is a known bug that came about in the last week and that it only happens on the first click in of your session. When you hit this error screen, click the Message Center link on the left and you should get here. We have the fix done and tested but will not be able to put it onto the live site until 6/1. Or so I hear from Sylvia.

We can't help you with your wet weather or your tailgate hanging out there. :-)

I'm thinking a dry suit would be the ticket for you when it's raining. When you get home from mudding you could just drive through a car wash.

Hi Mike. I saw your old message from May 05. I also got the window roll but found that after I use it my windows are wrinkled and wavy from being rolled. And they stay that way. Have you experienced the same issue? I am going back to the Mopar window bag. Seems to work better but harder to store. Go Easy, John
  • mtngalmtngal Member Posts: 1,911
Loved the photo! While you might be side-lined by rain, we've been getting our first taste of summer weather. Tomorrow I'll take the top down and do a little wandering around the mountains. Many of the roads are still closed and it doesn't look like they'll be open until June.
  • believebelieve Member Posts: 74
Let me know what you find out on ordering your 2005.

    Thanks

    Hey, John,

That's really wild that you have that problem with the Window Roll. I left my windows in it all winter while my hard top was on and had no problem. The windows were fine. Did you put each window in a seperate sleeve of the felt? I can't imagine why your windows would curl like that...
