It's about 8:30 pacific time and after emptying my cache it works fine. Glad to see that everythng is back up here.

I actually saw another bright green soft top unlimited this week! I was very surprised as I've only seen one other green one (a hard top) in my usual L.A. area. We both gave each other big waves.
  • Hi Gang - Sorry I've been so quiet all Fall/Winter. I really try to keep up on posts but by the time I've read them all, I've run out of time and need to return to my work. Work has me coming and going as we head into another major software release due the end of March so my weekends and evenings are spent until then which gets me down. I just needed to take a moment to take a breath and remember what keeps me happy this evening...Having a job, My Wife, My Kids, and My Jeep. And, that includes all you good folks who keep this board such a nice return to "reality" for me and reminding me there's Jeep-life outside of work.

Ended up looking at some "old" Summer photos and thought I'd post them for those of you that are stuck in the Winter blahs like me and need a touch of "green" again.

Here are some links I hope work...didn't want to post all these here in case it causes too much grief for those of you with dial-up connections. These are photos when I took my Dad, Mom, and kids to a small lake called Rush Lake in the Thumb of Michigan. My Dad had always wanted to see it in all the time he spent up there since he was a kid. My Jeep took us there over unimproved, two-track sandy roads through what I think are state-owned woods. My Dad was thrilled to finally see the ellusive Rush Lake and my Jeep liked getting just a little dirty and challenged if even just a little.

Congrats to you new Jeep owners and All the Best to the 'ol gang here.

Very nice photos - I could use a nice, green two track road about now - the LA freeways are getting old. This past weekend I thought I'd go cross country skiing, but the traffic to get turn left out my subdivision was so heavy it discouraged me from going much higher. Instead I turned right onto a dirt road that goes up onto a normally quiet, deserted ridge, but even that was busy with people. I envy anyone who has a chance to get away at all right now.

We are tentatively planning a trip this fall that will include Steamboat Springs, Estes Park and Moab. Can anyone suggest anything that a Jeep might like to do in the area, bearing in mind the stock nature of my Wranglers?

    Harriet:

Run those high mountain passes in SW Colorado. Do some Internet searches. A buddy of mine goes there and runs those roads, and he has some gorgeous pictures.

If you do that, be careful. It's a LONG way down, and there are no guard rails.

Actually, yes! Breckenridge! I know, very touristy, but you'll be fairly close since you're already west of Denver. In Breckenridge, they have these fantastic old mining barges (that did horrible environmental damage, but that's another topic) that dug their own little pond, moving it along as they went. Outside of Breckenridge, past Lake Dillon is a great trail through the mountains that begins with one of these machines at the base of the hill. These trails are great for stock 4x4's. I was driving one in my (at the time) Ranger, with a friend in his Bronco, and we were passed by Toyota Tundras, Jeep GC's, etc. Even an ancient FJ60 Land Cruiser. Certainly not for the "extreme" rock crawlers, but I saw a bunch of them outside of town heading up somewhere close, so those trails are there as well.

Here's a book that gives Jeep trail guides to the ghost towns and mines around the area:

SW Colorado is good but I don't think you want to plan a trip too late in the fall. Snow will close the trails.
Ouray aka The Switerland of America, aka Jeep capitol of the world
You can click on activities and then Jeeping.
The trails are not very challenging but it is very beautiful.

There is a jamboree for Moab and Ouray. Jeep Jamborees
Moab trails They are rated 1-5. I wouldn't go over 3 if you want something mild.

Rocky National Park (estes park) was very crowded when I was there. I enjoyed it though. They may have some longer hiking trails were it won't be so bad many people.

Yep, there's still a problem and it's system wide, not just on the Forums. Apologies!

Congratulations Tyoshu!!! As a fellow newbie to the Wrangler World, I know what you're going through. The driving experiences are better than expected, especially the engine performance. I'm not quite to 300 miles, but that should happen this weekend.

Post some photos when you get time.

Greetings everyone. Spring is coming!!! I have a quick question. My drivers side door panel cracked/split from the window to about 4 inches in a straight downward line. The crack/split is about one sixteenth of an inch wide . Its still growing. No big deal, just a pain on an 03 Jeep. Anyone have this happen on a fairly new Jeep? Going to dealer to see if warrenty will cover. Go Easy, John
  • jstjst Member Posts: 8
..Koolbreeze2...I had that driver's side door panel cracking on my '99 Sport...vehicle was still in warranty and the dealer replaced the panel without charge....this was about four years ago...JST..

Just curious...why did you pick Solar Yellow?

I'm always interested in why people choose the colors they do. I'm personally drawn to the blue, black and green shades. (The new Jeep Green is going to be one of my favorites.) I wound up with Deep Beryl Green as carmax had only two Unlimiteds, the green one here and a Yellow one in Tennessee or somewhere. I had to think about it overnight, as I really wanted black, but now I think I like the green just as much.

By the way, I've only seen red on the new JK prototype. Anyone know when will they announce paint colors for JK production?
  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
I had the same thing happen, but unfortunately it was just out of warranty. I'm sure a current warranty will cover it.
  • koolbreeze2koolbreeze2 Member Posts: 252
I just got back from the dealer. I have 34500 miles. It is covered until 36000. Something with the dealer finally went my way. I noticed their new labor charge---$85.00 per hour. Thats what my doctor costs!! Thanks, John
  • Sorry I didn't take more shots of the 2007 Wrangler. My digital camera was acting up (tends to happen when dowsed with fruit juice...uggh!). I only took one shot of the undercarriage. Let me know if any of you want the original higher resolution image of that one...

Most Jeeps I see in my area are black, blue, red, or white. I wanted something different and I was trying to decide between the Solar Yellow and the Impact Orange. I like them both. I was lucky enough to find a dealer that was really nice to work with and they had the Yellow so I got it. It is an awesome drive!
  • drewmeisterdrewmeister Member Posts: 168
Thanks. I was passed by an Impact Orange Unlimited Rubicon the other day. I liked it. Pretty much the ultimate Jeep package. Would be nice to see an orange or copper color continue.

You know what's been relatively absent for a while? Tans and browns. I remember a desert tan on YJ's for sure, and a deep brown on CJ's. There's still a Khaki, but I just don't see them around much. If ordering a new one, that just might be what I'd choose. Does anyone on the forum own this color?
  • div2div2 Member Posts: 2,580
My 1999 wears what Jeep calls "Desert Sand Pearl Coat". I would have preferred Solar Yellow, butcolorselections area bit limited when you're buying used. That said, I don't see many Desert Sand TJs, and I do like driving vehicles that aren't horribly common.
  • rankinhubrankinhub Member Posts: 19
Yes, I have the 2005 Unlimited Rubi in Khaki. I like it, partly because you don't see many in that color around. And it hides splash-up road dirt pretty well (but obviously, not all Wrangler owners will value that trait!).
  • tyoshutyoshu Member Posts: 31
Hopefully this will work. Here is a picture of my Jeep. Let me know what you think. :D

    Tyoshu,

Nice looking Jeep!! Though my jeep is black, I really like the yellow, and would have considered it if I had bought new. However, as someone had just previously stated, buying used really restricts colour options. I am pleased with the black, though. And no, I don't mind at all that it shows the mud extremely well! ;)

My previous car was a yellow chevy tracker; there's something about a yellow, convertible truck that just screams 'hip' to me.

    Enjoy your rubi!

VERRRRRY NICE. Ain't new Jeep smell great?

    BTW...Wanna sell your wheels?.... ;)
  • drewmeisterdrewmeister Member Posts: 168
You're not kidding at all about it being rare. I don't think I've ever seen an LJ or a Rubicon in that color. In fact, I don't think the dealer I go by on the way to work has a single Khaki of any model in stock at all.

Sounds like a very cool combination.
  • drewmeisterdrewmeister Member Posts: 168
Does anyone remember this? It was Chrysler's road tour. GM still does it every year, but it isn't the same.

Chrysler/Jeep had a Jeep test track that they bulldozed into the empty forest near the location. I chose to drive a Liberty since I hadn't before and they were new. They sent a driver with you, and it actually was an off-road course! (No rocks, but body damage was a no-no.)

Will they do it again? Sounds like an opportunity to really get the new Wrangler out there for people to see. Also, in 03 there were no new 300's/Magnums out yet. With all the new models, this summer would be the perfect time.

Jeep's page is gone, but here's a story about it with pics from rockcrawler...

I went last year. It was called Camp Jeep on the road. Here is a link to my post about it. click here
I can't believe no one called me on "test driving a compass". I meant to say commander.
I find Jeep's website hard to use. I can't ever find anything on there. I have no idea if they will be having an event like that again this year. I guess you have to check Jeep's website every so often.
If you took the rubicon on the off-road course you did a small little run over some rocks.
I liked how toyota had an off road course at the auto show this year.

It is... mine is similar to keats', just on the longer wheelbase. 2005 was the year that Jeep introduced the Sahara Special Edition Unlimited Rubicon model (1,000 units made) -- all of which were in the Khaki color scheme -- and coincided with the Sahara movie release that briefly featured a number of Wranglers doing what they do best in desert terrain. That said, there just aren't that many in Khaki around.

Very nice picture Keats. It looks great. No bumperettes gives it a much better Jeep look. Sharp! KB2

    Love the pic!

I can probably find by searching, but if you get a chance for a quick post, whose rock rails are those? They look like decent steps as well, which is what I'm searching for...
  • keatskeats Member Posts: 412
Thanks, drewmeister, those are Jeeperman Trail Skidz. Here's a link: Jeeperman

They are a perfect step and they protect the entire legth of the rocker. I have been extremely pleased with them.
  • keatskeats Member Posts: 412
KB2, thanks. I have since added the new Mopar end caps to the front and rear. They give the bumpers a nice finished look. Where are those pics of Rosie?

I know. I sound like a broken record but I still have not purchased a digital camera. It will happen. Go Easy, KB2

Ohhh yeah.... USP Jeeperman Unlimited Skidz ....

They make one for the LJ! I must admit, I'm becoming a Jeeperman fan. This is exactly what I wanted, an actual slider that is useful as a step.

Well, after months of searching, I just bought a 2005 "Black Tie" package Wrangler, black, with about 14K mi on it. I was originally searching for a 1999 or 2000 Jeep (based on posts I made and discussions from this group late last year), but I had a tough time finding exactly what I wanted. Not many to choose from up here. Then I stumbled on this Black Tie model, which I had never heard of before (this is my first Wrangler). It's a bit overboard on the chrome, and probably will make me look like I'm in the midst of a serious mid-life crisis (I'm about to turn 40...), but I did like the look. Plus I liked getting one still under warranty, in the color I wanted, for a good bit less than new.

So my question - where do people go for aftermarket accessories on the web? In particular, a couple of items:
    - I need a user's manual
    - I am interested in full doors (this one came with the half-height doors; is there a way to "swap"?
    - other cool stuff I probably don't even know exists...

Thanks for any advice - and if anyone is curious I paid 16,000 for it.

    Terry:

I guess it must have been those old worn out plugs that were causing the misfires on warm re-starts. I wheeled today, and I shut the engine off and restarted it several times today. No rough running.

    Tom:

I'm glad that is all it turned out to be. It's a great feeling when you can track down the cause of a problem and fix it yourself. And, when the advice we get here helps, it's just that much better. I find it hard to say how much I like this forum.

  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
Glad to hear you got it sorted. I'd like to claim credit for the diagnosis, but I think I just suggested changing the plugs to eliminate them as a cause (plus they were long overdue).......and you must be feeling good that it was fixed without the cost and inconvenience of a visit to the dealer. :)

Your advice has helped many folks, saving them time and money. You da man!

Terry, didn't you also recommend that I change the plugs?

Nah, that was Mac. When I changed the plugs on mine it did not help. I had a dual problem, O2 sensor and fuel pump.

Congrats Mike! Black is an excellent color for Jeeps in general. Is the package you have a dealer install? I also have an 04, and haven't heard of it.

You can get doors a couple of places, but I'm not sure what years the details changed (interior trim, etc.). I thought the body matchup would be the same for 97 and up, but there were hard top changes during the run, so you might want to get only 04 or 05 doors. Check Quadratec out as well. They sell full doors Full door kit. It says up to 2002, but if you ask they may know if the doors will work fine on the 04. But they 'ain't cheap. You may want to put in a "wanted" call to your favorite wrecking yard, and have them call you if they get some. I would take any color and just paint them, unless you have an exact match.
