DOES IT A LOT WHEN WET OR SNOW WORSE ON PARTIAL GAS, BUT IF U FULL THROTLE IT AND WHEELS GET SPINNIN SEEMS IT DOES IT WHEN WHEEL SPIN SLOWS DOWN. ALSO JUST WHEN THEY START 2 SPIN SHE POUNDS.TKS LH
That auto-headlight override gizmo looks like the fix - thanks for the tip. I looked at your truck page - nice looking vehicle, and nice list of options.
Works well, not sure if it will help in your case though.
I can't hear the sound it makes and that makes it more difficult to figure. Has to be one of three things. Either shocks, springs, or limited slip. Again, it depends on the sound it makes. It could also be a combination. I would have another dealer look at it, checking the springs and shocks first. I would think a tech would be able to tell on a test drive. Not sure if your current dealer is motivated enough to help you out.
DEAN, I THINK I WILL TRY RAS SOUNDS LIKE THE THE RITE ROAD TO TAKE. U NO WHERE I CAN GET AT A GOOD PRICE OUR CDN DOLLAR ONLY WORTH 50 CNTS OF YOURS. I'M SURE RAS WILL KILL MY PROB. A QUESTION? HOW DID U GET THE GRANATELLI MAFS 2 WRK WITH HYPERTECH PROG 111. HYPER TOLE ME DEY WRNT COMPATABLE. WAT UP WIT THAT? I ALWAYS WNT MO POWER LIKE U TKS A LOT LH
I heard the same thing about the Granatelli and the HPIII. I installed the Granatelli about a month prior to the HPIII. Disconnected battery for half an hour when installing the Granatelli. Month later installed the HPIII programming and had no problems.
I am a new GMC Sierra owner and am looking for a bugshield and spray in bedliner. Any suggestions? I have hear about TRUCKLOGIC for a bugshield and PERMA-TECH or LINEX for a spray in liner. Has anyone purchased these products. Thanks.
I got the Line-X for $325, have no problems and it looks good. Had a Rhino-Liner on my old ford, no problems with that either. Went with Line-X this time because I like the texture better. Either way you cant loose. pat
I'm about to order a new 2001 Sierra 1500 Reg. Cab 2WD, 5.3, auto, and 3.42 posi, but before I do I have a few questions. I would like to swap in the excellent looking gauge cluster from a 2002 Caddy Escalade. Has anyone done this or know if this is possible? All of the Escalades I have seen have a Trans. temp gauge in the lower left corner, what option do I need to order so that my truck comes with the Trans. temp gauge? Also I would like to lower and super charge the truck. So far the Hotchkiss 2" front/ 4" rear lowering kit and the Whipplecharger seem to be the frontrunners. Does anyone have experience with these products? Thanks in advance for any advice.
I was under the impression that you needed to get up into a 2500 to get the extra gauge on the cluster. I have Z71 with the HD Trailering package and don't have it on my 1500 Silverado. This is consistent with the 2001 brochure also. Maybe GMC is different. Good luck.
Being lazy, I installed the Granatelli once, removed it to look at it cause someone on Edmunds had a question, reinstalled and never removed again. So I guess the answer is that I've never tested them independently. All I know is that I liked the throttle response I got after installing the Granatelli and again after installing the HPIII. When I remove the programming to take the truck in for warranty work, it really runs like a POS. BTW, I also did the 160 stat and the truck temp runs around 190 degrees.
You can try Stylin Concepts. I just ordered one, along with vent shades. Both painted the same color as my truck. Had a painted bug deflector on my 99 GMC. Looked good , not cheap about $98. Hope this helps
i tried the stat alone, jus 2 see if it would really fool puter & it did but the gas went out window. wanted to see how close it kept engine 2 160dgre. it went as high as 174 on obd11 tester. so installed everything else & wham i dont believe it b da same trk. my wife was the real judge, she only drove it stock, & after she came home wit a big grin on her face that means good! now gttin ras,tb spacer, taylor,or msd wires,& bbk 80mm tb. iguess thats it without loosing my warrantry. the only thing i really worry about now is the hop, but ras & velvet shacks if i need both should do the trick lh
i spoke to gary at hyptec & he told me that the 160 should run approx 12 to 15 dgres higher than wat it says. go figure. mayb our diffrent climates. summer here high's 78,2 85 digrees mayb thats the diff? tks!!!! lh
yep like my mom a yr ago. Bought a GTS for her blazer. Used velcro to attach to the hood. She took it off after 2 months and is now accumulating dust. She hated it
Thanks for all the info on bugshields. I am now curious about the bumpers - Post #476 stated that people still buy bugshields that require bumpers because of lack of info. Are there specific bugshields that I should NOT buy for a 2001 GMC? Thanks.
Question: Can I buy a Z71 half-ton truck with a 5-speed transmission? I only see them with automatics. I'm very surprised that Chevy doesn't offer a Z71 with a manual transmission. Your input would be appreciated. If I can't buy a Z71 with a 5-speed, I guess I'll look at the 2500. I know they come with a 5-speed as standard equipment.
Can someone with a service manual provide what the torque specififcations are for the following? ('01 2wd Silverado) Lower balljoint to spindle nut,& tie rod to spindle nut, rear leaf spring bolts to hanger and shackle, axle u-bolt nuts. Thanks for the help!!
Not sure which one has the bumpers, but the one I bought without the bumpers was from Lund, called the Interceptor.

I now understand why the dealer techs shy away from problems...it's too hard to find the info in the 4 volume manual. I would say tighten till tight, but not too tight....I'll see if I can find the info.
Bugflector II has four little bumpers. Round clear rubbery things. Easy to clean around, out of sight unless you look for them. But, to each his own. The plastic is pretty stiff...not sure the bumpers are needed.
Oby, if I could bug you...what the torque spec for cab bolts? I'm still trying to convince the wife that buying a tech manual is worth it.
You can buy a Z71 with a manual transmission. Most dealers wont order or stock a manual transmission - they make more money on an automatic.
The Z71 suspension package is available on the LS or LT models. It appears you can order an LS Z71 with a V-6 and a 5 speed or a 4.8L V8 and a 5 speed. The LT only comes with an automatic.
Both of my Silverado's were special ordered to get a manual transmission.

Looks like my old '00 2wd Silverado x-cab is now in Oklahoma, my sympathy to the unlucky guy who ends up with it. Looks like it gained a few miles in the process, had 5000 when I returned it, now has around 7200.
My Chevy has 34,000 miles on it and when accelerating in high gear (auto tran OD) at around 45mph, I feel a series of "skips" like it is slipping out of gear for an instant. It has a similar feel to the rear wheels slipping slightly on white lines when pulling out from a traffic light, wet pavement. My dealer says it's just the torque converter and that it is normal. Sure doesn't feel right to me. Anybody have this condition? Thanks, Phil
our company has an employee who owns a '99 heaven forbid indigo xcab rado. I had asked him the other day if his steering clunks when making slow left turns...he thought about it and said yeah it does. I asked him do you think anything is wrong? He replied that he didn't know and wasn't really aware of it until I mentioned it.

Ubolts...theres one over the axle and one over the leaf spring. it's listed by size.
- ricsh- makes ya wonder if it took another 2,200 miles to make the truck decent enough to put up for auction. nah, the service mechanics aren't that dumb right?
Thanks for the info, Mike. You've been most helpful. I wish I could get a 5.3L with a manual transmission but I guess not. Thanks again. I might just have to look at the 2500 ls 4x4.
Not exactly sure why, but there's hardly anything out there about this truck!!! I've been to my dealers here in Colorado, but not even they have much information at all!!! I was in Houston last week and they had scads of them, but I didn't have to time to look. I'm trying to decide between this truck and the F150 SuperCrew 4X4. I'll only be using this truck for driving, "possibly" pulling a jet ski or motorcycle, but absolutely nothing else!! Anyone out there that can provide some real insight as to their experiences with the 1500HD CrewCab???? Specifically gas mileage!! I've got information coming out the nose on the Screw. I would rather have the Sierra, but from what I can tell, it's really more of a work truck than the F150, not really a daily driver. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
