By the way tsjay, did you ever find a soft top for your jeep?
I have a 2000 Sahara and I experience a high-pitch wind noise via the ventilation ducts when I travel over 40mph. I had it looked into by Jeep Service but they tell me it's normal or that all Jeeps have considerable wind noise. This is not normal Jeep wind noise because if I set the ventillation off, I don't hear it. The last time I had the Jeep serviced, I was told that it might have a block somewhere in the engine area and might require serious work???
Overall, other than this annoying wind noise problem, the Sahara has been flawless through 14k miles of New York City and NJ Turnpike driving.
Any advice? Is this common with all Wranglers?
Thanks all.
I looked them over last trip back to the USA and just can't decide exactly what I want. I know 6 cyl. with a/c but am really stuck on decisions about the top. Probably will get both tops. If they do not have the anniversary edition I will look into a Sahara in green with tan top.
I do spend a lot of time off road here in Saudi. I live 25 miles out in the desert from the nearest gas station and about 35 miles from town. I off road through the desert to get to where I live when I want to go around, rather than through, the Saudi air base. It is about 13km of sand and dirt going around. Out of here at midnight tonight, Riyadh-Paris-Atlanta! And at last a couple brews on the flight! No brews allowed in this country. Well not legally.
No, I still haven't bought a soft top. I think I would go with Best Top if I get one. They seem to be the consensus choice for the highest quality. I guess they do live up to their name, "best top."
It will be a while, I'm afraid, before I get one. Our company froze everyone's wages this year, and since they don't have me driving to Illinois every week any more, I have lost lots of mileage money that I used to be able to count on.
I guess I'll just have to take the hard top off when the weather permits. I'm off this week, and the temperatures are supposed to be nice. Trouble is, there's a chance of rain every day, so I'd better not get far from home, if I do take the top off. I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE SOFT TOP! (Or the dual top option)

There are different settings on the ventilation system. Does your Jeep make that noise when you have it set for recirculation and when it is set for fresh air too? That might be a clue to help diagnose the problem if it only does it in one postition or the other.
Hope you get it solved.

How's that new Jeep?????
Let us hear from you!
tsjay
Welcome to the board. Sounds like you have a lot of sand to off-road on. Make sure you get the Dana 44 and Trac-lok on your new Jeep.

Have ya'll looked at full soft doors? They will cost less than the half doors.

Have you or when are you going to Shiloh ridge?
www.shilohridge.com
I think they recently redid their site. It didn't have much before.
It is outside of Lufkin. It may be close to you.
We have a group of people going in May sometime. Let me know and you could meet us out there
As far as the noise from the vents, I'm also guessing you have a dry leaf in there somewhere. It's happened to me before.

30" Canyon Wheel Group

Total with options, destination and rebate came to $20,643
The whole process went smooth to this point since I new exactly what i wanted and had the prices memorized after months of research. My only concern is that im going from a Big Black Chevy Silverado extended Cab 4x4 Pickup to a tiny Jeep. But when you have jeep fever theres nothing that can help but to get one!
Congrats on the order! I'm impressed they didn't charge you a deposit. I had to put $1,000 down for mine.
Now, in about 2-3 weeks, call the DC 800 number and you can start getting the status and, when the time comes, the railroad car number so you can track it.
Tonkadave has parted with a few bucks and ordered a Jeep!!! I can now go to my eternal rest knowing that nothing else of any real interest could possibly happen.
CONGRATULATIONS, TONKADAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess you know you could never have done it without me??

Sounds like you have checked out my Thelma Jane's web page.
Yeah, it was amazing what kind of crap they tried to pull on me at the first two dealers! I guess they get away with it with some customers, but I had done my homework, and I knew what I should expect.
You got a Jeep now?

I went top down yesterday (mid 50's and really windy) while running errands and to the grocery store. The only other top down vehicle I saw was a burgandy CJ8 parked in the Kroger lot. I parked next to them and looked for the other cold fool while in the store. No sighting but I was proud to park by him.

Is there an easy and SAFE way to make the power outlet/cigarette lighter hot at all times?
My cell phone won't stay charged very well with the power outlet not being hot when the ignition is off. I need the cell phone to be working at all times because of my job.
I don't want something rigged up half way that wouldn't be safe. I would want proper fusing and everything.
Why in the world did they design the power outlet to only be hot with the ignition on????
thanks
tsjay

tsjay - It would be really easy to pull the stereo out and run a wire down to your lighter that would make it hot all the time. You could also buy another lighter outlet at Wal-Mart or somewhere and run separate wires for it from the stereo wires and and you could have one each way and hide it next to the seat so you would have a place to plug your cell phone into all the time and not have it hanging from the dash. If you splice onto the stereo wires it will be fused too.
FYI, the main Jeep Wrangler discussion resides in the SUV message board where Steve and myself are your hosts. Only the discussion title is linked to the owner's club message board that Karen hosts.
Regarding the edit with no time limit. unfortunately this cannot be done due to legal issues I think. The problem is that one member can post something deragotory, or flame someone else, and then go back and change his/her post while denying that he/she started it. This would cause us a lot of headaches. Flaming and then deleting your original post after someone else has read it and responded is also a no-no. Instead, what I suggest is that you either use your profile, or the meet the members topic as you have done. You can always post a new updated message (with the different fields that you think may be appropriate) in the "Meet the members" topic, and delete your old message. Just so you don't miss your old message, you can always mark it (hit the mark button), at which point the link to it will end up in your mesage centre. You can then add a comment next to that link so you don't forget what it is. Try it! :-)
Hope this helps!

Anything that allows us to go to a known location to check out one of our buddy's particulars is what we need. Sure beats scrolling through a million posts on the main board to see what someone has on their Jeep or whatever info we might be looking for.
An expanded "Profile" might be nice too. The current one doesn't work very well. If you try to put much in the box, it all runs together- no paragraphs or anything.
Thanks for your response.

I would have someone else do the work, though. I would never trust anything that I did myself!
I don't want Thelma to burn up.
tsjay
so anyway driving to work today the engine light came on and stayed on all the way to work, and then all the way home. I have had the wrangler for two months and it now has 1400 miles on it. For those of you who may have forgot or never read my previous posts I bought a 2001 wrangler sahara senna with a camel dual top and auto tarns. So I guess I will call the dealer to make an appointment to take it in.
Now I have to wait. I won't be taking delivery of mine until the end of September as I am currently stationed in Japan. But on the bright side, I'll be assigned to Colorado Springs where there are plenty of places to enjoy my Jeep.
Till then, I'm subsribing to all the 4x4 and offroad magazines, and trying to follow all the different websites dedicated to this super fun vehicle.
And in case anyone is wondering, I had 2 before this one, a 93 and a 95 Sport. And I enjoyed them immensely (I was in Colorado then, too).

It would just tear me up if something went wrong with Thelma Jane, but the experienced Jeepers like onlyinajeep say that it's just a matter of time.
Keep us posted on how this goes. We'll all be rooting for you.

More mileage money! Good deal!
I'll probably have to miss the Thursday night chat. Bummer! You guys have a good one, and be thinking about me.
I should be back online Friday night, so I hope there will be lots of posting going on then.
I STILL can't believe that Tonkadave really did it! Man! WOW! PRAISE THE LAWD!
You guys be sure and post lots of messages for him to congratulate him, OK? That was as unlikely as Ebenezer Scrooge giving Bob Cratchet a Christmas bonus BEFORE he was visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future!

That is great news. Glad to hear it. welcome to the club. Sounds like a nice looking Jeep. I can't wait to see some pics of it.

I agree I like the look of the half doors and didn't like the look of the full soft doors. They have grown on me now though.
madman390
I guess you have your subscription to JEEP magazine? That is a good one.
Oh yeah, you suck. just kidding. I am just jealous. Colorado is incredible. I plan on making a trip there every year and maybe someday moving there. I should be there in august this year.

Anybody else overseas and dealing with the military vendors?
I was in VT last weekend, and the snow was up to the roofline!!!
Woo hoo!!!!!!
Probably 70+ inches on the ground at least...
Saw lots of Subarus, Ford trucks, and some Jeeps.
I wanted my lighter to stay hot with the switch off. I took it to the dealer and told them what I wanted. They ran a new wire and fused it. No charge. I thought that was pretty good service. I did notice the service guy looking up how to do it. Didn't take him long once he found the instructions.
I hope the service is as good if I ever have a problem. Fourteen months, 6000+ miles and no problems.
Hope this helps...
Welcome to the club..just regular guys in here
chatting about jeeps. I havent got permission from mrs. nut to get one yet.. but i'm closer.
not as lucky as tonkadave.
again welcome..hope you can visit us in jeep chat on thursday
take care!

That ABS info is surprising to hear. I know you can get the auto with ABS and Canyon Wheels, so it sounds odd that the sensors would be affected by larger tires.
Anybody else have info on this? I do plan on upgrading to larger tires/wheels in the future.
Madman390
Where will you be taking delivery? If in the states, shop their price around online, you will likely beat it. But then again, they promise to match any price.
Good luck.
Madman390
wdubs - welcome to the group and good luck in ordering your Jeep. The consensus seems to be that the Trak-loc is worth the money unless you plan on immediately replacing the diff with a locker. We plan to off-road ours but aren't going to go hardcore any time soon, so we ordered trak-loc. Trak-loc seems to be similar to the 6cyl engine... you never hear someone say they wish they didn't have it, but many will say they wish they did. sfjeeps had a great post on the subject. It's #1701 in this forum.
Good luck to each of you and keep us posted.
-twylie
Are you getting trac-lok?
wdubs
The trac-lok is worth it just for rain, ice, and snow. It is a limited slip differntial. It will give you better traction. It can be useful off-road but there are better LSDs for that. The factroy one is a great start and inexpensive.
Yes, I did leave off the trac-loc option on the dream jeep. I think that it will be better for me when I'm off goading in the Alps this summer.
madman- I still have a 2 year tour left here in Germany, so I'll be taking delivery here. It may cost a little more but I don't know if I can wait.
The guys at work think I ought to spend my bucks on a new BMW. They're fast on the autobahn, but are crummy on snow
P.S. What do you all think of the add-a-trunk option? Is it worth it or are there better after market trunks?
Mike
As a New Englander I can recommend this package to anyone who needs to drive a lot in our wonderful winter weather. Traction is excellent in all circumstances.
I have not experienced the sort of weirdness tonkadave mentioned with the ABS on my Jeep. ABS sensors will measure both wheel speed and brake pressure, and when one starts changing a lot faster than the other, that's when the system kicks in. On modern cars it will do this far better and faster than any human could ever hope to. Maybe it doesn't work so good off-road, but for my use I'm glad to have it.
