White with red sounds beautiful, but take a close look at the interior red. Have you seen one yet? It's a little on the muted side, which may or may not be pretty to you. You decide...... you are the one who will be driving it everyday.
Also, Nav looks cheap in the brochure and cannot be programmed unless parked. Is it really worth the cost? And isn't Sirius much better than XM?
track it, go with the Z51 and yes it will not be as comfortable on the road
as the F55. If you have no plans to track it and just want a touring car
why not get the F55 and be comfortable just about all the time. When it
comes time to try out a canyon road just switch to sport and stiffen it up
a little.
I love my Z51 2002 Coupe and since I track it regularly, wouldn't have
anything else.

Another feature you get with the NAV system is a sterio that won't play MP3 and doesn't have CD changer.
If you have to have all the gadgets and aren't concerned about what $1600 really buys for you then get the NAV.

Why is every Chevy included, "but not the Corvette???????????????
Don't GM employees purchase Corvettes and get a discount?
One more reason not to buy GM car, the only one I would buy is not covered by the new offers. After GM blasts on the radio and TV how you are going to get the employee discount. In low monotone voice the announcer states dose not cover the Chevy Corvette.
BTW, did you know that not all Chevrolet dealers can even order a Corvette? Might do some homework to learn some basics.
2005 Chevrolet Corvette
2dr Convertible (6.0L 8cyl Automatic)
Millennium Yellow
$800
$49,000 invoice - $1000. = $48,000 vs. $55,950 List Price
Are you still wondering why the announcer on TV & radio is whispering $7,950 reasons.
Corvette's are very nice, two in the garage, but to get a deal expect to put in some effort on the internet and not to walk down to Joe Blow Chevy and get in line for delivery. Enjoy what you drive, I do!
Towards the end of the C5 model production you could have gotten one for $10,000 off the sticker price. Just have to be at the right place at the right time.
However, bellyaching about something that is noted as excluded from the get go, seems like beating your head against the wall for fun. Just figure out the system and work it!

I am thinking of getting my first corvette, was wondering about 2 things in the new 06 model
1) is the 6 speed auto trans gonna make any real difference (good or bad)
2) is the 06 model gonna cost more?
also, is this car still still a damn fine car to corner with the standard package? or is the Z51 Performance Handling Package stuff needed?
also, is the 3.15 Performance Axle Ratio necesary in automatic?
Thanks!
Of course the '06 will cost more, haven't they already done at least one price increase on the '05 since introduction? Demand is pretty high for the Corvette considering the rest of the industry.
The suspension in the C5 is great and when I got the Z51 I really didn't intend to do more than go to a driving school maybe once. However, for some of us, one try leads to many more days on track and for that I'm glad I got the Z51, even it isn't as good in the corners as I now wish. On the street the Z51 is probably overkill. But will you always be happy on the street? I'm not!
The PARatio is something I've seen several people upgrade to after wishing for more response. The 6 sp gets great gas mileage if you stay out of wide open throttle, and gives you response when you want it. The std rearend gets ok mileage but less response, while the PAR gets you response but less mileage. Why not have the best of both worlds. The only reasons to not get a 6sp IMO are bad knees, etc., or more than 10 miles in stop and go on a regular basis.

In the C6 you can have a blast doing zero to the speed limit and on the highway you can safely find holes in traffic that don't exist with slower cars. Along with being fast I find the C6 to be surprisingly comfortable for long distance runs.

I currently own a Nissan 350z and thinking about selling it to get a 2005 Vette. I have some questions for y'all vette owners. Has anyone here bought a 2005 Vette? Any personal reviews? Any major issues already with the 1st year's model?
Pricing: Has anyone been able to get the Vette for under MSRP? I've been hearing about how hot this Vette is , so wondering if one could buy under MSRP. Wish i had the money to get the Z6 coming in September ,i believe. Also, the GM discount doesn't apply to this vehicle. Now, does the GM Employee discount have any hidden costs or tricks that we don't know about or is it really an honest price. Anything to be weary or careful about this GM discount?
I've never been fond of American cars since my previous experience back in the early 90s have been horrible. This would be my first American car since my old Buick Skylark a while back. Any other good sites or forums on the new Vette?
Thanks everyone.
Darren
I've talked with several 2005 owners and seen several at the track. They seem to have a tighter feel than the C5's, nicer interior is obvious. To be very picky I would say I like the deeper rear deck area in the C5 and I don't care for the black moulding around the head lights on lighter color cars. Wish I could get one being rational but my '02 is still a great car even with 40k miles. The C5 coupe is about 8 sec's slower on a given track, mostly tires, I run Z06 wheels and tire sizes and get about 4 sec of that back. The C6 is about 1 to 1.5 sec's slower than a previous Z06, not shabby for a car that is about $5k at least lower in cost, fully loaded.
I have provided links to other sites in the past but since they provide the same service as Edmunds, automotive message boards that is against the rules. I will say that Corvette Forum and Corvette Action Center both have good specific info. Local dealers are still in some cases asking for up to $5k over MSRP, and more power to them, with few cars, they some times get it or at least some of it. On the Web you could get C6's at MSRP from introduction, but you might not be near one of the dealers. That is a bother for some people. I got both ours from Ken Fichtner in Montana, I'm in Northern Calif. The first pick up driving back through Yellowstone was so much fun we made it a longer trip the second time around and I will probably go back to get a third some day. I have seen up to about $2k off through the internet dealers, but I haven't been active looking lately and don't know what current inventories are.
On GMEP I think the deal is very good but as noted it doesn't apply to Corvette. I know a couple that got GTO's that way but it too was pulled from the program in the latest version. Keep us posted, the search to find what I really wanted was part of the fun, even if waiting for delivery was frustrating, drove a lot of used Vettes at dealer lots in those two months.

I personally am leaning towards getting a C6 with a manual transmission and the base suspension. However I have this fear that if I choose this option I may get out run by some kid in a new Mustang GT.

If you plan on some serious track time the Z51 and manual are the only way to go. I have the auto because I am lazy and hate rowing the gears in traffic which I spend far too much time in these days.
I am comparing to a MB SLK350. I know, not exactly the same type of car, but that is part of my dilemma.
I would be doing manual transmission with the Z51 package. It would probably not see a track (okay maybe OCCASIONALLY), and would be used for a lot of highway driving to St. Louis and Pensacola.
I found a deal for a 2005 EXACTLY how I want it for 3,000 below MSRP with:
Manual
Z51
1SB package
DVD Nav
XM
Monterrey Red coupe
Cashmere interior
Only thing it needs is the dual tops...
I just need to convince the wife. She prefers the SLK and in general thinks the Vette is a statement about trying to compensate for something...
I've wanted a Corvette since I was 12 and knew what they were.
