Almost bought a BMW 1 Series, white over white, 2011 with 20k on the clock when I was looking for my new ride. Great little vehicle but ingress/egress was a challenge so took it off the short list. Liked the BMW X1 and X3 but both a little too pricey for me. Tried the Tiguan and was going to go back for a 2nd ride but decided to just go with the Tuscon when all was said and done. Am very happy with the rig and the price I paid.

Maybe $5k as a trade, depending on all the details, and assuming you mean 85k miles, not 85,000,000.

Need some help please with trade value for 2012 Jetta TDI Premium with manual transmission. (local VW dealer is trying to get me in for end of the year 2013 Jetta TDI Premium with Auto, but is lowballing hard on the trade value with a 15K valuation)
State:Missouri
Condition: Great, no dings or scratches.

Good tread on tires.

Was in one accident with sheet metal damage to rear quarter panel, but was completely repaired with OEM parts and looks perfect.
Thanks in advance!!! You guys rock
That's actually quite strong. He is giving you "above average" value, which it isn't given the accident history, no matter how well repaired. So if the deal on the new one is good and it makes sense to you to take the 1 year huge depreciation hit, then you should jump.

Hi there... can someone please provide me the "true value" of my car? I have a 2007Acura TL Type with 85K miles in Chicago (zip code 60192, if that helps). Recent brakes, new battery and 4 tires. Has a few small cosmetic chips off rear bumper. Thanks in advance!
sandman,
Did you compare the Tuscon to the Nissan rogue? please give me your thoughts good and bad on the Tuscon so far. . Do you feel the engine is adequate pwr. How is the gas mileage. Tks.

hmm, that was odd. post seemed to go vapor? wonder if a link sent it to moderation?
anyway, what do you think on a 2006 BMW 525i. Black over gray, RWD. 106K. Looks clean. at a little used lot (front of a trailer sales place, they usually have 10 or so cars there). Asking $10,995. Fair? Should I just run and hide?

hey Q, what do you think on this BMW? I know it makes little logical sense, but then again, neither do I!
a 2006 525i. RWD it seems. Black over gray with 106K on it. listed at $10,995. Near my house so I have seen it sitting there a few times. Looks nice enough in the pictures.

Noticed a couple more that got put in moderation, restored them, and they looked like dupes. So I zapped them. The system sometimes guesses wrong about what's spam and what isn't. Hopefully everything you wanted to post in here got posted.
These are right in the high $8k to $9k range at the block. I'd be concerned getting it from a mom and pop lot unless they have a binder of service history from the PO. It is a fair price, even a little low, but not one I would pay unless I know for sure all of the typical issues have been addressed. Also want to see that carfax, of course.
Looks like some tired summer rubber on there, too.

a question on these. Since you almost never have actual service history, can a good indy BMW specialist tell what you want to know on a PPI?

Every time I see non appropriate wheels on a BMW, it makes me think... RUN! You've got Sport Package Wheels on a car that clearly doesn't have the Sport Package. What else is there?

I did not analyze the pics that close, but it did look like lower profile tires than I expected for what I thought was a base car (no way I could tell on a 5 of that generation if it had the SP).
I mostly liked the fact that it is across town from me, and was on the cheap side! At some point I may still go take a look at it, since it is convenient, and I have never driven a 5'er of that generation (My SIL does have a newer MY 535xi that I have ridden in).

Somewhat. I mean, there is a tag on the radiator to tell you the age, and they should be able to assess the fan's condition, but no way to know if the pump has been replaced without opening her up, unfortunately, and that's the real key.

Hi,
What would be a good price for CPO 2011 Sonata GLS Auto Gray/Gray with 35000 miles. Also 2011 CPO Blue/Beige with 19000 miles(6 speed manual). This is in the SFO Bay area. Base models. Thinking of getting one in JAN 14
Thanks for the help!!
What would be a trade in value for 2012 Acura TSX Tech (4 cyl) with 21.5K miles, no accidents, no paint work, black on black in NYC area? The car is about to turn two years old and despite it's bulletproof reliability is too boring to keep any longer. Thanks.
@stickguy
Besides the wheels, SP equipped RWD 3ers & 5ers of the E46 & E39 vintage would also have black trim (as opposed to chrome) & those oh so amazing sport seats with thick side bolsters & manually adjustable thigh support;)

well, le't see... with 35k miles, it would be about $11k-11.5k at auction. I have no idea what CPO costs hyundai, but I'd say somewhere in the $15-16k zip code feels about right. The lower miles of the other are offset by the manual trans, so the same numbers apply.

I need to stop cruising the car listings. Found 1 more that interests me. A 2007 BMW 328i 4 door. AT. RWD. Black over black, premium/climate. Looks clean. claims private owner (but hey, it is CL). 67,000 miles. Listed at $12,500. That seem like something reasonable to look at?

007 BMW 3 series car with 67500 miles with all the options available
Well... ya know... if you don't count Navi or Sport Pack as "options."
If everything checks out, its a $10k auction car, so the asking price is reasonable enough. Could knock like $1k off, though, I'm sure.

Hi all, just trying to get an idea of what I'm working with here. I'm looking for a reasonable asking price for a trade in.
2011 Kia Optima SX
Pros:
Fully loaded, Nav
Clean, well maintained, no issues mechanically or otherwise
Less than 20k miles as of this post
Con:
In an accident. Hit in rear, repaired.
how much damage was there?
a clean one with clean history would be in that $17,500 zip code.

Thank you qbrozen! Significant damage, it's got a CarFax. Including frame damage that was repaired. My guess was 15-16 would be fair, does that sound right considering the history? Or am I screwed.
Frame damage? Oh no. Well, all you can do is try. $15k is possible, but don't be surprised at less.

hi all,
am NJ resident and in school. I really need some advice whether to trade-in my scion xb 2011, which has less than 29,000 miles with some better fuel mileage suv or car ( 2014subaru crosstrek hybrid, pzev forester or honda accord hybrid). Other thing is i still have payment left on scion around 8000.
thanks
Ah, if Carfax says frame damage, you could be looking at $13,5K seems to me---see what gbrozen thinks. This car will be off to auction no doubt, if the dealer takes it.
By the way, if you were not at fault in this accident, you may be able to make a claim for Diminution of Value against the other party's insurance---sounds like there's money on the table here. This would require an appraiser, and yes, even if the car were fixed perfectly, you have been handed a loss of value.
@MrShift@Edumunds Thanks I appreciate the insight. I did contact a lawyer about Diminished Value claim. They sent an appraiser but it was hard to find a lot of good comps on the car. The lawyer is asking for a dealer to give me a value as is, and then what it's be worth if it had no prior damage. But that's proving hard to get.
So, I'm going to see what I can get and hope the lawyer gets me the difference.
You can hire your own appraiser and you make the claim against the insurance company of whomever hit you. (In most states you cannot make a DV claim against your own insurance company). You have maybe $4K sitting on the table here, and an appraiser is only going to cost you $300 or so. There's also a website that calculates DV for you, which you can use as further evidence. It costs $39 bucks I think. http://mycarisworthless.com/.
Someone stigmatized your nice car. You're the victim here.
Man, I'm confused. How much better than a Scion do you think you'll get?? Lessee... xB is 20/28 mpg while the suby crosstrek is 29/33. I guess we'll say 24 vs 31. That's 7 mpg, or 29%, better mileage. You have a car that's barely broken in with 29k miles and owe $8k on vs a new $26k subaru. How long do you think you'd have to drive that subaru at 7mpg better to make up that extra $18k you are about to spend?
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '08 Charger R/T Daytona; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '08 Maser QP; '11 Mini Cooper S
Seems pretty dumb to want to trade out of your vehicle you still owe $8k on. Your current mileage figures ain't that bad to want to sell it and spend even more $ on. Best to keep what ya got and pay it off sooner than later. This is not a good financial move to sell your current ride at this time for that reason sir!

a little out of the box, but what is a real world price on a 2006 Miata GT with 75K on it. Probably not the most logical idea, but that is not my specialty anyway. Here's a link.

Clean CARFAX but car has had a lot of owners---good maintenance, though.
Prices for these cars seem all over the map. I guess $9900 is a good starting point. Me, myself, I'd like to snag it for under $9K
It has been passed around a lot. But lots of oil changes along the way

Back before I bought my PRHT Miata, I looked at quite a few and it was pretty common for them to have a number of owners. Low miles are easy to find too. People buy one, drive it for a year or two and move on. Toy buyers like to move on to new toys. And its not the ideal year around car for most, to be fair. But that one seems pretty cheap.

Probably a good time to go shop it. Since we are getting a foot of snow. That car will be sitting there for a while. Though today also pointed out the flaw with having one as your only car in snow ciuntry

Yeah you have to discount for winter I think.
Hey guys,
Wanted to run two vehicles in Central FL by you just to see what values should be, if you have a moment, please.
The first is a trade: 2012 Charger SRT8, Black exterior with red interior. Has all the standard SRT stuff, plus a moon roof, parking sensors and blind spot warning system. Miles are 14,400 with original tires, so they probably are about 60% worn. Garage kept so the paint is in great condition save for the usual small stuff which could be buffed out in an afternoon. Only aesthetic issue is a very small scuff on one wheel thanks to a curb.
I'm looking to get into a truck and a nearby dealer has a 2013 Ram SLT 2WD Crew Cab which they list as "used"... sounds like the manager drove it around for a year. Exterior is brown with a beige interior. V6 with 3,000 miles. Package included on it is the "Outdoorsman" (Nav and SAT radio, premium cloth, remote start, and some other stuff). On the exterior it also has 20" wheels, side steps, a tonneau cover, and a spray in bedliner. they list it at $25,970. Haven't looked it over in person yet, so I can't say if there is anything wrong with it at this point.
Just curious as to what I should expect if I decide to trade the SRT and where I should be aiming to get the Ram down to.
Thanks!
I went to the dealership and it turns out this truck is a Buyback. The original owner (from November 2013) was complaining about a smell coming from the passenger compartment evidently. The vehicle was returned, repaired in Alabama, and sold at an auction to this dealership last week.
I asked for a Carfax and was given and Auto Check report instead. All it lists is the buyback, which comes across as the truck being a lemon now. No other issues or problems on the report but being a lemon is a pretty serious ding on the record.
So red flags are going off for me, and to add to that, the truck was in a service bay when I stopped by because they had found a small coolant leak that morning and were replacing a hose. The tech was at lunch so I could only look at it from the outside and take a peek in the cabin for a few minutes.
My questions:
Would a Carfax report show more info than the Auto Check one? I'm really curious to know what the smell was related to. Maybe it has something to do with the coolant leak?
Honestly, the issue they are reporting sounds minimal and I'm just trying to guess whether it's a case of the smell being truly awful (or dangerous) or if it was a problem customer and/or someone in over their head on the payments who was desperate to get rid of it and Dodge took a bullet for them. Am I allowed to share the VIN in case anyone can help me research further?
The truck has better options than I originally thought. The interior is all leather, not cloth, and the nav is the UConnect 8.4 with a backup camera and all that jazz. It also has the towing package. How does that impact the value of the price they're listing it at?
Finally, this report is going to stick with the truck for all time. How screwed am I going to be in 4-5 years if I decide I want to sell or trade it?
I'm going by again this afternoon to take it for a drive and I'm going to do some serious sniffing to see whether a smell is still evident. Any feedback or thoughts you guys might be able to offer would be great.
Thanks!
Run. Hard and far. That will always be branded. Unless you were planning to run it into the ground as a work truck I would not touch it.
Plus need a big discount. I think the experts here say at least 30% off? If you even want to mess with it.
That said it could be perfectly fine. Not like a wreck rebuild. Just damaged goods.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
yup. Avoid it. If you pursue it, ask about the warranty. I believe some manufacturers don't warranty lemoned cars, but I could be wrong.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '08 Charger R/T Daytona; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '08 Maser QP; '11 Mini Cooper S
Additionally Chrysler offers a 12 month unlimited mileage warranty on buybacks that covers any issues or defects found.
Supposedly this truck passed a "110 point" inspection at the dealer (which didn't include coolant hoses I guess) so I was thinking of asking for whatever documentation they might offer to back that up.
I may kick the tires on it later next week when I have some time and see how aggressive they can get on pricing. I'm curious as heck, too, so I may try tracking down the dealer it originally came from to hear what the true issue was.
