This post apllies to you in NJ..... Pricing in our NY/ NJ/ is not as good as other area's .. keep on negotiating and play the game til the very end of the month. You will find most quotes are pretty close in price .. Pick a fair target price to buy and let dealers know what gets your business today..

Your OTD prices does nor help us figure out what the vehicle selling price was offered at each dealership. Read back a couple of threads to understand prices and buying tips.. Then i could comment on your deals..

Dealerships like AutoSport in NJ , and New Rochelle in NY are Known to give good deals right at the end of the month if you hit it right and they have your model in stock..

1000 below dealers invoice price plus flex cash if your financing should be do-able by months end. If you want a lower target price you may have to work harder to get it..

The key to a deal is to stop asking dealerships for quotes. Give them your target price to buy..

    Read prior posting.

    sunnygangs,

This post applies to all buyers this month. Do what i'm saying and you will get a better price. Try to hold out and Start negotiations after the 24th of this month wrapping up your deal the last 2 days, last day of this month.. Unless a dealership agree's to your target price to buy before the 28th..

Here's how i look at your deal and all Car deals I do. Your at 842 below dealers invoice. Thats not to bad as far as price. Now take dealers admin fee or doc fee charge of 199 and your deal is now 643 below invoice. still not bad but there most likely is more room to save a few more dollars....... You need to try.

And here is how you should go about it ..

Depending on your area, supply and demand, how many dealerships are around you, and knowing when and how to buy will help you recieve the best price. pricing will vary. You may save a couple of hundred or more It all depends on how good you play the game.. Buying a car is like a game of poker who is going to blink first ..Never show your hand til the END.......... If your a good negotiator you could see as high as 1700 below invoice plus the flex cash incentive of 500 dollars... Your Area along with supply and demand play a part in pricing......along with how good you play the game and by bringing in as many dealerships your willing to travel to. hoping that by months end dealerships are still looking to meet there sales incentives. Thats when dealers will let vehicles go alot cheaper than in the begining and middle of the month. Always wait til months end to buy/ lease..

First send out as many emails to all dealerships Internet dept. addressed to the internet managers. If there are only 5 or 10 in your area that your willing to travel to then send 5 or 10. These are the dealership you try to make your best deal with.. Try to find and email high volume dealerships near you.... they sell cars cheaper than the little guy.

Each email you should state to the mgrs. I am looking to buy...... x model , color , and any accessories you want on vehicle . If you agree to sell me this vehicle for 1200 below invoice or xxx price I will buy from you today. If you would like i can leave a deposit by credit card til my model is ready to be picked up. I plan on buying this vehicle by months end. I have contacted several area dealerships and out of area dealerships. I would prefer to buy closer to my house but if my price is meet further away i will except a deal today..

Any email to this effect will be very effective and get the job done.. If you feel you want a lower target price that is fine also. Let this email sit for days if need be with dealerships. When they respond with a higher price tell them my price wraps it up today yes or no..1st dealership that agrees gets my money.... play the game never give in til the last days... by then dealers cave in trust me.. Unless your price is really out of the realm.. At 1200 below for mississippi thats not going for the big numbers..... At worst case maybe you settle on 1000 below invoice price but let the whole month play out before you lower your price.. Let these dealer chase you .

I'm not fimiliar with your states doc fee/ admin charges.. Make sure every dealer has the same price or adjust your asking price to compensate that charge.

Dealerships that have flex cash if you finance thru them of $500 is added to your deal after the agreed price.............. and not before.. Remember Flex cash is a Incentive given to you by the Honda corp for financing thru them. Its not to be used/ applied by dealer as part of your asking price to buy....its added after agreed sale price..

If you want to drive from dealer to dealer before months end you will be wasting your time. wait til the last, 2 days to do that sick scene...

Limited dealerships in small towns and area's means dealers have the price leverage.

At months end if you have not struck a better deal pick the closest dealerships and go in to negotiate.... prepare yourself for alot of dealership games and lies. make your best deal with closest dealership. All dealerships that are not internet friendly remove off your buying list,

Any dealers that tell you to come down for pricing/ wont deal on line that are within a quick drive from your home save til the very end of the month.. Its always best to negotiate online first then go to dealership when pricing and deal has been agreed upon..

Hope this helps you boys and girls.......................... good luck

All buyers in New jersey should be emailing dealerships in New york. Why??? Cause our area pricing is not as low as other states are selling at.. . Most of these dealerships will quote you around same prices.. NY doc fee's are only 75 dollars compare to NJ where there fee's are 299 to 499 depending on the dealership.

New York dealerships to contact.. email / speak only to the internet managers or the internet team with your offer to buy.

New Rochelle, Atlantic, Hunnington, Yonkers, Bayridge, Honda of S.I.

The 1st 4, I reccommend, the last 2 dealerships are hit or miss with pricing.

Stay away from.............. Paragon, Hillside, Plaza .... These dealers play to many games and Hillside honda is not internet friendly..

I live in the tri-state area and my experience with various Honda Dealerships has been something as below. BEFORE you read this do understand that I did NOT buy any Honda Car since I did not get a reasonable price from any dealer. I am currently exploring Nissan and some other brands.

    Worst Experience

Metro Honda - I made a internet inquiry and follwed up with a phone call. A lady called Michelle Pincay who calls herself Internet sales specialist sent me a email and called me. When I asked for price, she absolutely refused to give any kind or price .. like absolutely nothing and was adamant that I come in.
If they want people to come in then they should not claim to have a internet sales process.

Paragon Honda, Madison Honda, Honda of Princeton, VIP Honda, South hills Honda - All are just as bad. They claim to have a Internet sales process in place. They have a person sending you a nice friendly email to get you to start an Sales process online. But when you ask for prices .. they absolutely refuse to discuss.

It pisses me off that they manipulate people like this. You don't want to sell via online means.. sure .. then don't claim to have a Internet sales process. Now all i get is spam from each of these dealerships (ofcourse they are automatically filtered out)

If you are trying to negotiate a price online .. do not and I must reiterate .. do not waste your valuable time with these dealers.

The places I have had good experiences:

DCH Academy Honda, Autosport Honda and Clinton honda- They openly discuss prices and don't worry much else about competition. These people are more realistic and have a true internet sales process in place.

However I have not bought from any of them since compared to the prices I am reading on Edmunds.. they are not matching up to it.. not even close.
Like for example.. for Honda CRV LX AWD.. all they are offering is 100-300$ off on invoice price.. while other states are offering between 600-1800$ off.

Dealers who gave me a OK experience.

Honda of New Rochelle, Paul Miller, Honda of Manhattan

hey discuss prices but do NOT believe in giving a breakup.
They would not divulge their invoice price or talk about discounts on it. Not too happy with them and again would not advice anyone to waste their time with them.

Those who feel like negating what I said or arguing otherwise.. you are in all certainty .. just dealers..so don't bother..

pdev670 i had a very similar experience shopping for a CRV in Michigan

Contacted 14 out of 15 dealers and only a handful gave me prices thru email AT FIRST.

Any dealer that told me to come in I simply told them "If you are not willing to give me a price over e-mail in writing before I come in consider my business lost I will not step foot inside of a dealership unless I have a price with all fees and taxes included beforehand"

Each of the dealers that initially refused ended up sending me e-mails with the out the door pricing, the rest all called and gave me a price over the phone, partially to protect themselves and partially so they could add extra [non-permissible content removed] fees (like two of the dealers that "forgot" to add the destination fee as part of the out the door price)

Every dealer that employed tricks I asked to speak to their manager and informed them that not only will I not be coming in I will be telling my friends and family not to deal with their scamming ways. Some apologized, some got angry, and quite frankly I do not care. I am spending 30K for a vehicle they better kiss my [non-permissible content removed] not play games.

Finally I narrowed down to the dealer that was most up front about the pricing and even though their price was a few hundred more than the other dealers they did not try to scam me out of any fees and agreed to give me Flex Cash so I went with them.

If I am a car dealer, I want my customers to have an easy and stress free experience. I will tell them over the phone and email (since its 2014 and everyone uses the internet and computers) my lowest price. If they can go find a cheaper price somewhere else so be it. More dealerships will lose money by hiding fees than by disclosing them up front.

The people shopping for Hondas and Toyotas are looking for the best price without any hidden fees and most likely will just walk out the dealership door if something is sprung on them last minute.

The whole entire process really infuriated me and exhausted me. So many of the dealers that I told I was no longer interested kept calling my cell phone day after day to (and all from different numbers from the same dealership). I ended up changing my cell phone number to stop the spam calls.

Once I finalize the purchase of my CRV I will post the price but as others have pointed out dont deal with any [non-permissible content removed] it's your money and you have a right to spend it anywhere. Dont settle for terrible service because they give a $50-100 price cut over other dealers. Instead work with the dealers that are honest and up front because thru a little haggling they most likely will come down and try to match your lowest price as best as they can

    Good luck!

No smart dealer is going to give you a price over the phone.

If the DO give a person a hard number they will shop that number all over town and the store that was "nice" enough to give you that number will lose the sale.

It's no-win situation for a dealer and a business that I do NOT miss!

I do miss the great people I worked with and my many loyal customers but I sure don't miss the phone shoppers and those who would drive 100 miles to "save" 100.00.

People say they will "walk out" of a store if anything changes or they pull something sometimes they will. Other times, the weary shopper that is "infuriated" and "exhausted" will simply cave in and buy from the store that lied to them. I saw that happen all of the time.

  • pdev670pdev670 Member Posts: 9

@isellhonda...read carefully.. there were a couple of dealers who did work with me on the price. We exchanged emails and phone calls and they did revise the price twice or thrice. But Alas not to the point where I would be happy to seal the deal.

The point of my post was the illegitimate and deceitful techniques the dealers use to make you contact them. "Walk into my parlour" .. the spider said

Do not advertise yourself as a Internet sales specialist if you are not going to discuss over phone or email ...

And as @stfwayne said.. I don't care about your pride or your sales process.. my time is important.

btw .. you are forgetting something.. you are selling hondas .. not jaqs or porches .. these customers do care about $100.

But as they say.. the only thing constant is change.. Macy's will remain a local county store while Amazon.com will spread across 40 countries.

If you don't have a Internet sales process in place.. you are not going to survie for long.

$stfwayne.. I agree with you.. if it were a case of few bucks I would rather just buy from a reputed dealer.. but here it's a question of over 1000 bucks.. not something a Honda buyer will ignore

Your above mentioned posts was very acurate on what goes on at honda dealerships across the country. Very frustrating and insulting to think businesses act like this . Dishonest scam artists.. Most of the folks who know me over the years will tell you.... I say the same thing over and over like a broken record about buying. You will recieve the best possible price by Getting as many dealerships involved as your willing to travel. Remove the non internet friendly dealership off your list.. Make Your offer price/ target price to buy thru emails and direct talks with internet managers. Negotiate thru the month making your best deal at the very end of the month . Last 2 days, last day if possible. Some area's will not sell as low as others. Do not waste your time trying to buy until the end of the month............ For reasons you guys stated above..

You guys will never ever hear me negotiate for a vehicle til right before the end of the month. I make it clear to each dealer via phone Take my money im buying today Yes or No. Dealers that sell cars or need sales incentives will meet or come close to my offer. If you cant get xx price on last days you adjust price or hold out another month.

You cant buy a honda in NY / NJ and some areas til the very end of the month. Beginning and middle of the month is a joke around hear with pricing. Dealers will string you along and play games like you guys have been posting......... Dont wast your valuable time.

There are thousands and thousands of folks who told me.......... thanks Brian i made a good deal on the last days, last day this month with some of the NY... NJ dealerships or dealerships across the country . My edmunds page does not lie from folks who negotiate the right way telling me about how it went down. Some folks recieved great pricing on the last days, alot got hundreds less than dealer quotes and prices in the middle of the month.... Thats what your shooting for hear.

Plain and simple hold out til months end in your area. Take the 4, 5 , 6 etc dealerships who were up front and honest with internet pricing. Call the internet managers and tell them i buy today for xxx. make your best deal out of the bunch. You can drive and visit each dealership to.. You have the most buying leverage on these last 2 days, last day of any month and not before.

Dealers dont budge on price til the very end in the harder to buy areas.

    good luck.............post your deals

Thanks everyone for your help and input but i have one more question, at least for now lol.

The dealer that gave me the best price on the CR-V EXL with the hood deflector, door guards, splash guards, wheel locks, mats, cargo tray, cargo mat out the door of $30,500 with all fees, accessories, taxes included.

He told me to wait until the beginning of the month for Flex Cash since his dealership was out for the time being and promised me that the price of $30,500 would be honored thru the end of March.

I didnt ask him how much Flex Cash he was offering but do dealers typically offer $500?? Because that is how much I was offered at two other dealers this month but their out the door price was higher so i crossed them off my list.

**Do you think the dealer will offer me less than $500? If so should i demand $500 Flex Cash?
    **
So far this dealer has not only been the most honest but also the most professional, courteous, as well as just a nice guy when we went to his dealer to drive the car.

Also my aunt wants to buy a CR-V and loves the price of $30,500 and said if she can get the price she would buy it. If we are buying TWO CR-V should we expect at discount since we are spending $61K at that dealer or since this is the lowest price i was able to get should i not really expect any discount.

I would think that if im spending 61K i can get at least another $500 off bringing my total to $30,500-$500 Flex Cash- $500 Two car Discount = $29,500 which was my goal to get a fully loaded CR-V EX-L with aforementioned accessories for under 30 stacks.

P.S. Brian should be getting paid for the services he is providing on these forums or at least some kind of recognition by Edmunds for driving traffic to the site. Thanks man!

    stfwayne,

Thanks, been stirring the pot in these forums for 15 years. I preach what works with over 1000 vehicles bought myself. My way is not for everybody but take some of my tips and bring them into the dealerships and you will save a few hundred if not thousands. If you are a good negotiator and can talk to people................ Online / direct calls is the way to go..

Flex cash of 500 dollars is given by the manufactorer to us for financing thru honda.. Dealer wont mess with that.. Apply the end of the month buy sale... You may find a much better deal. Do not settle on that 30,500 price yet til the last days.............. good luck

As most of the "old timers" here know, I've been retired over three years. I would have worked a few more years but it became less and less fun and life is short.

I was very good at what I did and my phone skills were excellent. I never lied to anyone nor did I ever "lowball" a customer as many stores will do. My customer satisfaction scores were always great. In my final years, the bulk of my business came from repeat and referral customers.

Dealers HAVE to make a profit and not the piddley profits some buyers think they "should" be making. The overhead is staggering. The stores WILL make decent profits or they will fail.

And, I don't WANT you to care about my pride or my sales process.

"My time is important" Really? Perhaps you are one of those who would drive 100 miles to save 100.00.

It's no wonder stores are losing quality people and it's no wonder why games get played.

    Carry on....

  • stfwaynestfwayne Member Posts: 26

brian, id like to make a deal at the end of the month but the dealership offering the lowest price said he can only give me FlexCash in the beginning of the month since he is out.

No one gave me a price even close to $30,500 (Closest being $31,100 a $600 difference) and the dealer in question said he cant go any lower and to make his point clear he said he can only do $30,500 but is willing to throw in the cargo organizer which is selling for $60 online thru CollegeHills and $80 in dealership.

What about the two car discount? If my aunt purchases the same car at $30,500 should I expect a discount, and if so how much is appropriate to ask for $500-1000?

I am pretty sure that buying two cars in one transaction is a unique and somewhat once in a year type of thing for a car dealer esp for a Honda dealership. What do you think? Anyone else on here buy two cars at once?

my internet dealer gave me price on the phone ... which I wrote down on a notebook. i shopped with that price around ... but other dealers were not ready to match it ... One dealer said "if you are getting a CRV at that price then you shoud RUN FOR IT. And guess what ... I did run for it ... It was a "phone price" alright ... but I went by my "gut instinct" and was right. All we had to do was just sign the paper work, see/test drive the crv, and we were on our way back. Very smooth transaction.

  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244

    stfwayne,

Dealers work on selling cars, meeting sales quota's, and have certain incentives to sell.. If a dealer needs to make his sales number and feels your 2 vehicle sales puts him close or over the top you will get a better than expected price otherwise its just a sale. like the other dealers prices they wont budge means nothing to them..

Alot of dealers will set a certain price to sell all there vehicles and wont budge on price unless by months end they need the numbers. Some dealers may lower the price just enough to sell more cars thru the month without giving the cars away for very little profit..

And then there is a dealers profit margin and operating costs.. I always found end of the month buying to be the best.

    @budgetbuyer:

    • What model CRV did you end up purchasing and was it FWD/AWD?

    • What dealership did you purchase from in Michigan?

    • What was the final price out the door?

  • pdev670pdev670 Member Posts: 9

@brian125 .. just another query.. is the invoice price same for all dealers ?
For 2014 CRV LX AWD I am currently being quoted the invoice price as 23554 by most dealers but one or two are quoting other values.

  • pdev670pdev670 Member Posts: 9

@brian125.. does this look like a reasonable price to you for CRV LX AWD

    • Dealner invoice $23,554.00
    • Offer price $21,754.00
    • dest. Charge $830.00
    • Sub-total $22,584.00
    • NJ Tax 7% $1,580.88
    • DMV 301
    • Documentary fee 279
    • NJ Tire 7
    • OTD $24,751.88

Holy doo doo. It sucks you have to pay 7% sales tax. In SC, sales tax is capped at $300.

You said " Key to a deal is to stop asking delarships for quotes" Give them your target price.
I was about to start sending Dealers emails for quotes. Does below prices look good to you.

Dealer invoice w/ dest charge for CRV LX AWD : $23,554.00

Offer to buy ----------------- 1500 below invoice and 500 to counter Doc fees making it -$2000

Offer price (including Dest charge of $ 830) : $21,554.00
    NJ Tax 7% $1,508.78
    DMV 301
    Documentary fee 500
    NJ Tire 7

    OTD $23,870.78

If 500 flex cash is available Best will go down to : 23,370.78

Is the calculation above fine about and is this the best to AIM for in NJ/NY area ?

I just helped my daughter buy a 2014 Honda CR-V LX FWD in Hampton, VA. She paid $750 under invoice. Her trade-in was in "Fair" condition, but they allowed Edmunds "Clean" private party value. She also received the $500 military rebate and free all-weather floor mats. We were pleased with the price and the negotiations were fairly painless. This was the second car we bought at Priority Honda in the past three months.

Dealers work off the same invoice price. Operating costs and profit margins differ from dealer to dealer. Thats what sets prices by the bosses

As your seeing now the closer you get to months end dealerships will start to losen the price and go for your business. If you feel your target price has been meet then close deal.

If you want to buy closer to your house and dealers have not come down in price wait til the last 2 days, last day like I posted in here.

If dealers x is 100 miles away and is offering 1k below call the closest dealerships to you and make them match price for the sale that moment or give the dealer who was honest and upfront with price your business 100 miles away..

On your above post invoice on your model is 22,723 plus dest/ charge = 23,553. If dealers offer price is 21,754 plus 830= 22,584 that puts you at 969 below invoice minus dealers 279 doc fee makes your deal at $ 690 below invoice.

Hold out til months end you will do better. If the 690 dealer calls or emails you before the last 2 days tell them 300 more dollars off there deal will wrap it up today, otherwise tell them your waiting on a response from these dealers then you will decide where to buy.

Auto-sport, Yonkers, New Rochelle , Atlantic , Hamilton, Friendly, Hunnington

This is how you play the end of the month game. If you dont push these dealers into thinking you will buy elsewhere they wont budge alot of times.. Pit one dealer aganist the next.. By telling them who there competition is in a nice way makes them decide if they want to loose you or not. Knowing these other big boys will grab your business for 1 k below straight out.

Call george at Auto-sport Int/ mgr last 2 days, last day pitch your offer. He will give you..................... Yes or No answer or his best he will do... George is a straight shooter. trust me.

600 below to about 1100 dollars below invoice price is where pricing is here in NY/NJ for the educated Edmunds buyer at months end....
I had a email today from a nj member claiming Hamilton honda was at 650 below invoice after doc fee's were subtracted off deal.. Hold out dealers will stick together here in our area to the very end. Especially in New jersey

Good luck.......... hope this helps you

    @brian125

Is the calculation above fine about and is this the best to AIM for in NJ/NY .

    wdw,

I think 1500 below is asking to much you wont get much of a response from dealerships. Especailly in NJ........ Pdev670 will confirm what i'm saying you guys need to talk to help each other maybe both should call george at autosport or New Rochelle honda .

If you could get 1000 off invoice you would have made a great deal; this month. That would be my goal and maybe settling on a few hundred below 1000 if no dealers agree's . Gotta play the whole month out then make your deal..

700 to 900 is a good deal in this area. dealers here in our area are not selling like other states

If any dealer has flex cash try to buy from them 1st that should be in your intial emails asking if dealer has it along with your offer to buy today or when ever you start your process. my above posts apply to you also about area dealerships.. Ny doc fee's are only 75 dollars opposed to NJ 279 to 499 doc's.

1300 below invoice price in NJ would put you at 1k below taking doc fee's in acc.

    1075 below invoice price in NY would put you at 1k below ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '

    Hey @brian125,

I'm trying to get an EX AWD here in Chicagoland, and the invoice is $24,690 plus $830 dest fee is $25,520. You mentioned that I should be able to get $1000-$1500 off invoice in my area. That's off the $24,690, right?

I sent one of your suggested emails out and told dealers I'm ready to buy the EX at $23,300 before any fees (1,390 off of invoice).

I just had a dealer call me back saying that maybe he could get me down to $24,100, before any fees. I told him thanks for the call and I'd think about it. Should I just hold tight until Wed/Thurs/Friday and see if/when he calls back, or resend him my email asking for $23,300? Also, this dealer is asking me to email him any offers from other dealers but they all call me (I don't answer), even though I email them back. So fun.

Thanks for all your advice on here, btw. Glad I'm not running around to dealers doing these negotiations.

    Citiz,
I belive i told you target price 1000 to 1500 below. With 1500 being a top target price. what other offers have you recieved so far???? Did i send you alist of dealerships to contact?/ or was that someone else? What other offers and numbers are you looking at besides this offer.

So far just sit back and negotiate from your home. If you need to go to a dealership in a few days to wrap up your deal you would have done good. Get as many dealerships as your willing to travel to involved in the pricing wars. Everytime a dealer calls or emails keep on telling them....... for xxx i will buy from you today telling each dealership Do you want the sale today Yes or No , Otherwise im waiting on the rest of my contacted dealerships and will buy at the end of this week..

Your above mentioned dealer is at 590 below invoice price unless his price included the dest/ charge of 830 hold out til months end. they are feeling you out to see if your will take a smaller offer. dealer will make another counter offer .

There were a couple of members who bought close to your area reach out to them for details. I recall pricing was tight until the end of the month with a few dealers really selling low.

Cool, thanks Brian. I just got another offer (different dealer) via email that said "I just spoke with my manager, he says the best price we will be able to do on a 2014 CR-V EX will be $24,019 plus tax, title, license, and doc fee. Our pricing will always include the destination fee, which on the CR-V is $830."

They had previously emailed saying they couldn't meet my $23k price, and I replied and told her "Thanks for the reply. However, I believe in you, and your ability to work your manager down closer to my $23k. Do what you can. I know you can get there." I'm obviously trying to have some fun in these emails.

Their first real offer seems pretty good if it truly includes the $830 destination fee, which then would put the price at $23,189 before dest. I just emailed them asking what the OTD price is to see if there's any hidden extras they'll try to tack on, and to confirm it's an AWD model, even though that was in my original email. We'll see.

sounds like now at worst case if this is your best offer your close to your target price area .

Sending out emails and having a little fun or being nice goes along way sometimes. when your emails are like a robot message responses you may get the same. What ever breaks the ice will work..... The key thing here is Your negotiating via email and online in the comfort of your own home and dealers are chasing you.. Some folks dont have this good fortune and have to drive from one dealership to the next..

Good luck post your dealership and area when done

Thanks Brian. What states are better in pricing in North East ?? Is it worth while to go and pick car in boston or DC area ( Virginia/Maryland/DC ).

For making a deal will I have more leverage this month or further up ?? As in will price ease from here into summer or it will get tougher and best bet is to buy now ?

  • citizenchicitizenchi Member Posts: 11

So, that price I was quoted did include destination fee. Here's the email response from them: "Yes, that does include the destination fee. Your out the door to Cook County Chicago with new plates will be $26,721.24. This includes $221 license and plates, $166.27 IL doc fee, and Cook County Chicago taxes $2,314.97." I know tax and license aren't negotiable costs, is the doc fee negotiable? I'd still like to be close to $26k all in.

Hoping that by posting actual dealer emails as I get them, this will help others when negotiating.

    wdwdlg,

Every month you will see pricing decrease and maybe see more dealer to customer incentives.

With Toyota , Hyundai, Kia , Fords up comming push for sales with cash and incentive rebates most likely will help honda buyers and make honda corp. losening up there pricing with more dealer cash.

Right now in most area's CRV target prices and there market prices to buy in most states are as little as 300 below dealers invoice to as high as 1500 below. As the months roll by the lower part of that number,,,,300,,, will grow faster than the higher number. I always find that if your area' is selling real low..... 1500..... below invoice and your a good negotiator that number price is met if not higher at times. Most folks who are not good at negotiating get a ok price if they follow what is being said in these forums.............. a much better price than folks who walk in and out of dealerships. the reason is.......... we are informed buyers . Part of getting a good deal is knowing what your area's market price is. How could you make a good deal if you dont know what price to buy at????

Last days of any month and at quarters end.... mar, june, sept, dec, for car companies are good times to buy.

The areas you mentioned are selling cheaper than alot of other area's. MA, MD, VA, DC, CA

Everyone who buys this month please post your State , Name of Dealership, and buying experience. The most important item......What was your agreed selling price before taxes, dmv and doc fee's..

This will help us continue to make better than average deals and help the next new car buyer.

    brian125,

Update. I got an email at 9 PM from a 3rd dealer saying they will sell me the CR-V EX AWD for $23k, before tax, dmv fees, etc. That's $189 cheaper than the previous dealer. Do I send the previous dealer (who is only 3blks from me) that offered $23,189 an email with the 3rd dealer's offer of $23k even, and ask them to beat it? If so, how much detail do I put in the email? Do I actually forward the other dealership's email so they can see it's legit (still easy to fake, I guess)?

And do I also send the same email to the 2-3 other dealers that have contacted me with prices closer to $24k? It's all good news, just need to bring it home with the best price.

Thanks again for all of your help, btw.

    citizenchi,

Here is what you do.. No emails..........Time to Close the deal.. This is how???. Get on the phone and make sure while you are doing this you enjoy every moment of this. You have played the game well and your deal is a straight flush you cant be beat... Contact the Internet manager 3 blocks away. tell him/ her you are going to buy said vehicle at dealer x for 23k. you want to offer them the business if they agree that moment or you buy from dealer x .. Do not call dealer #2 yet until dealer # 1 commits or declines your asking price to buy that moment.

If dealer #1 is a bs dealership that plays games and misleads folks make sure you lower your asking price make them beat dealer# 2 price..... Otherwise make them match.

I say this over and over guys stop wasting your time trying to buy a vehicle the 1st 3 weeks of any month.............all you get are bs stories and dealership lies. These next few days you will have dealerships full attention and make your best possible deal.

    @brian125 hi Brian
I have read through this entire forum. Im in the Columbus, Ohio market and looking into purchasing a 2014 crv awd LX. I have gotten some invoices from 3 different dealerships (This is my first time purchasing a car so I don't really know what the market is like here! And please correct me if I'm not using the correct format)

    The invoice I got is msrp $25,025 - $1,971 (discount.. I haven't negotiate yet) - $500 (rebate) = $22,554 this price includes a destination fee

    $22,554 + $1,631 (tax) + $250 doc fee + $33.50 dmv = 24,468.78 OTD

I still have a grad incentive of $500

Is it reasonable to ask for 1,000 below invoice price?

Hello, this is the first time to buy a car, I am in FL area, My aimed car is 2014 Honda CRV LX Fwd. I quote with over 10 dealerships, and so far the lowest OTD price is $22,500. Is it a good deal? Should I put the trigger?

This Price doesn't include the potential $500 cash back.

  • _bryan_bryan Member Posts: 8

It sounds good to me. We just paid $22,000 OTD for the same car but our included sales tax was $300. Your included sales tax is close to $1,200.

    nkch 17,

Yes your target price of 1k should be obtainable. Send out as many emails as far as you want to travel to dealerships telling each one you will buy today for xxx price.. This will open up dialog and start your negotiations..

Here is the right numbers for your Lx awd Invoice == 22,723

    dest charge=.............................................................830

total..............................................................23,553 this price excludes taxes, dmv fee's, doc fee's, and any incentives and rebates due you..

Good luck post if you need help

I am trying to squzee more from the sponge. My sales tax in this area is %7, I phone one dealer to ask the total OTD $21,500. They refuse and said this price is insane. Ask him about $22,000, The answer is and I quote" if I give you $22,000, will you committed to my store? and put $500 deposit ?" I am confused and told him I will seriously consider it.

Now my question is: What does the meaning if the dealer say this? Can I trust this way? Ask him to send me this number as proof? Or directly go to the store to negotiate? The dealer keep asking whether I will trade-in my old car, and financing with them? Seems that they may only do this when I do trade-in and financing with them.

    xniu001,

Let me help you understand and will breakdown your deal...

OTD pricing does not help breakdown your deal. How did dealer arrive at that number?.

    post this info..........

    Agreed selling price ?

Was dest/ charge included in this price? its $ 830

does vehicle have any added options?

What are dealers doc fee charges?

R there any other fee's dealers is charging beside your states sales tax rate, and dmv charge which we dont need. Those numbers only finalize your deal in your state. all states fee's are regulated so if i'm not buying in your state your otd numbers means nothing to me and leaves me clueless to what you paid. Read thru prior boards to get a idea on pricing

    @Brian125

When I give them my offer of xxx price, do I need to disclose that I'm a recent grad too? so they can apply the grad incentive or leave that at the end until they come close to my offered price excluding tax and other fees??

I know this forum always say don't show the dealer all my cards but I'm not sure when to tell them what.

    thanks

  • brian125brian125 Member Posts: 5,244

No dont disclose til you and dealer both agree on a price of the vehicle with dest/charge included..... then you are intittled to the 500 grad, and if they have flex cash thats another 500 you are intittled ............. taking another 1000 off your agreed price..

Update- I put in an offer of $21,200 (incl. dest fee) and he counter offered $21,900 (incl. dest fee) and said it was the best he could do...I'm waiting for other dealers to counter offered. Should I wait ? I know he can do better but he knows I asked for flex cash!

this is for the awd lx
