I may have to go out and buy a car so I can have something to write about.
At Niagara Falls -- rented a Sienna -- nice enough but no wow factor. Dealing with no pennies, one / two dollar coins and paper currency almost too pretty to spend. Asian tourists must take a thousand pics a day. I counted 23 shots by a guy of the same angle to Horseshoe Falls. People taking pics of the buffet with friends by the hundreds. Pretty amazing. How does someone manage thousands of shots of basically the same thing and why ? I'm going to stay in my room and read for a few hours -- maybe take a nap while my wife, son and his family are out buying rare and valuable treasures on Clifton Avenue.

lol jayrider. We live about 45 miles from Niagara Falls. The view is pretty spectacular. The butterfly place is pretty nice to see and Niagara of the Lake is a pretty town. Got any other plans while you are there? When we came back to Canada from Florida last year we had to get used to no more pennies. It is kind of "centsless" to still have pennies considering you can't buy anything today....for even a nickel. I really prefer our coloured bills too...I don't know how many $20s I have given out for $1s when in the US.
A Sienna is a pretty good as far as vans go. I have driven a few Chrysler mini-vans and a Ford Aerostar.....I'll be happy if I never drive a van again....much prefer a regular car or small SUV
Well, I have a good excuse. Well, two actually. Last Wednesday I was having stitches removed from where they'd removed skin cancer which (this could only happen to me) was caused by chemotherapy.. Right from the doctor's office I hit on a 5 day road trip which had the main purpose of actually meeting roadburner, who I've known almost two decades online, in person. Great guy wonderful house and surroundings and very hospitable family. Drove each other's cars and he was very calm as I forgot his driveway was longer than his street and almost took his 318 into the trees.... That thing responds nicely! He's tempting me in the car department and we took in the Corvette plant and a Reds game. That is one nice park. It killed me because being a Mets fan I always hated the Reds because I was at the Pete Rose beating up Bud Harrelson game but after being there my animosity vanished. Thankfully I can still hate the Cardinals.
rb - funny you should show the C.Co Bigelow shave cream. It's my favorite, even though I normally use the non-rebadged version. It's rebadged for Bath and Body Works. It's actually Proraso, a real nice Italian company. One advantage to me with the Proraso is they make one in Sandlewood instead of menthol. I like that. Easy to find.
I know I'm late to the shaving party but I was on a kick for a while with old fashioned safety razors. They don't make them in the US any more but are still popular elsewhere in the world. Needless to say there are several Internet boards that deal with this. They will tell you these cut closer than a Fusion which I haven't found to be true and it's nearly impossible to cut yourself with a Fusion while it's right easy with a regular blade. The knock is Fusion blades are pricey which is true enough but, man, they last a long time which makes up for that.

Yes, I agree that the closest and smoothest shave I've ever gotten was with this new Fusion. That trimming single blade on the reverse side does a great job under my nose and upper lip in those hard to get places.

Funny, I don't have an accent either. Good story, glad things are going well, and that you are still travelling around, and even got to see roadburner.
Since it is a slow day this story may be of minor interest.
My son-in-law emailed me to tell me the sunroof in the 2004 BMW he bought from the dealer for the same price I got for it as a trade-in (I wouldn't sell it to him directly) 6 years ago has broken down in the open mode. It would cost $2400 to fix, so he had it closed permanently. Also, there is a suspension problem. If I kept a 10 year old BMW I would expect I would spend a fortune to keep it on the road.
And, why is he telling me this stuff? (only one reason right, especially if he mentions the price. And, no, it didn't come with a 10 year 200k mile warranty!)

I am glad that oldfarmer, stick and you picked up on my dilemna (had to get that one in since there's not much going on). Just briefly, because I did tell these stories years ago....he did ask me after he owned the car 2 years, if I experienced a major leak making a huge puddle on the front passengers floor area. I said no, take it to bmw. He did and they found when the car was parked in his garage, chipmunks got into the door posts and firewall, ate the insulation causing the leak.
Then a year after that he asked if I had noticed if the rear wiper had stopped working. I said, no, it always worked fine for me. Just then my wife walked by and heard him asking, and she piped up with our daughter (his wife) was backing out of the garage and the door came down on the wiper. Once again, blaming me for something I didn't do and shouldn't have been asked about anyway. I purposely did not sell him the car, I let the dealer sell it to him.
I was watching a Dr Phil when I was in Florida and it was about a mother and daughter who were arguing about a business deal they were involved in together.

Family get togethers have been civil, but there is a giant invisable elephant sitting right in the middle of the room.
@fezo - Never realized you were a Mets fan. I thought I was the only one foolish enough to root for them. I adopted the Mets after the Montreal Expos folded and they have just killed me every year. It's almost at the point where I don't want to watch them any more. Even when the Expos were at their worst I never got to that point (except right at the end when the league took them over). It's as if they are cursed, and their pretty new stadium seems cursed for them too since they can't win there (or hit homers there either).
This is one of my pet peeves. Craigslist posters who refuse to post even basic information like mileage or price. Some act like they are paying per letter and just put "car for sale". Do they think the mystery will compel you to call?

Will they attribute deaths to the smoke when they occur like we do with deaths due to the cold in some of the Northern cities in the winter?
Many, many years ago Chicago had a heat wave and they attributed to it hundreds of deaths. That number was suspected to have been grossly inflated.Years later it was revealed that the actual number of deaths due to the heat was much less.

Well the fact of the matter is that memory is pretty cheap. With digital cameras taking 1,000 pictures isn't much more expensive than taking one.
There are times where I will take a couple dozen pictures of the same thing look through them and keep a couple of the best and delete the rest. Even if it is at the same angle a moving object like a water fall will have differences between each picture, plus zooming in or out and/or moving the subject within the frame as you take the pictures can also give you different perspectives of what you are photographing.

At one time people thought it was better not to put a price in an ad. Then when the potential customer called he would have some questions to ask. Since price information is easily available these days, and people are more astute, it doesn't make sense not to post price, mileage, year of car etc.
OK the wife again came down with "lets get an SUV" fever again. I am hoping to wait this out but if I can't maybe I will have a sales story to tell. I really don't want to get an SUV.
My SIL announced that he wanted to get a 5 series BMW. I was going to talk to him about the costs involved seeing he is in the Army with a stay at home wife and two kids. However the daughter quickly put the nix on the BMW.
I recently had an serious issue with our local grocery store and I wrote them a complaint via e-mail stating that I will take my future business elsewhere. They responded with an apology and an offer for a $50 gift card. I responded that they should find someone to explain to them what "I will take my future business elsewhere" means. I also told them that it should tell them something that I am so upset that I won't even spend their money at their store.
As some of you might remember I was writing a book, it's completed and editing is done. I have started sending out query letters to agents so wish me luck in that.

I have a 2008 Sebring Convertible and the wife has a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.
She just mentioned getting an SUV didn't mention make or model, she does like the daughters CRV but we would have to look around. Not sure what it would replace but likely it would be the Elantra as the wife likes the ragtop, but I could be wrong. Either way I don't think we need a SUV.

I don't think I could live without one car that has some actually utility value. Just picking up a box, or anything slightly bulky, and you need to find something else. But, that is me I guess.
our RDX is about the size of a CRV. not at all big, but plenty useful when you need the space.
Why not let her have something like Sandy's Tuscan? About the same size as the elantra. Heck, it is pretty much just an Elantra hatchback/wagon on stilts.

That Elio thing seems a bit fishy to me. First, I don't believe for a minute that 20 thousand people actually paid to be in line. Also, the multitier pricing system for place in line smells to me, too. It looks like hidden crowd funding crossed with possible pyramid scheme.

My SIL asked me about good vs bad cars and this is what I answered. Enjoy a long post, Houdini.
I agree with almost all of what the wholesaler said. Suzuki does make great bikes and quads. I've ridden them all and Suzuki Quadrunner was the best one out there. Yamaha was a close second, Polaris is good and Honda was 4th or so because they never figured how to go into reverse easily.
As far as cars, he was dead on, but not all inclusive. Buick is still very nice, but doesn't hold up in the resale market making all Buicks a great used car. Pontiac is no more, along with Oldsmobile. If I ran GM I would have kept Olds and dumped Cadillac even though Caddys are making a comeback. Ford finally got some HP in their sports cars and quickly went to fuel economy so you have a few select years of Hi Performance Mustangs (mine is one) and now they're going to 4 cyls with turbos. Ford also has better body styles than previous years, but you have to pay for it.
Hondas ride rough and Toyotas ride soft, but both are world leaders in reliability long term. Toyotas outsell Hondas about 5 to 1 so you can guess what Americans want. Subarus weren't mentioned, but are a big hit with the older folks. Not big sellers, but a steady following. Hyundai and Kia are now owned by the same company and are close enough that they can be rated together. They own the under $20k market and will grow due to quality. Some hi end Hyundais are challenging Mercedes Benz. Look at the Genesis. Bet you didn't know Hyundai made a $50k car.
BMW, Volvo, M Benz are great while under warranty, but I wouldn't buy one after that unless it was a real bargain. Their maintenance is pricy. Not my cup of tea.
Pricy, but nice lux cars are Acura, Infinity and Lexus. They all run forever with only routine maintenance. Not sure if he mentioned Land Rover/Range Rover, but I wouldn't own one of those on a bet. If you want the best SUV out there...Toyota makes a Land Cruiser. That thing will climb mountains with the comfort of a Rolls Royce.
I'm looking for gas about $4 to $5 shortly and I expect to see cheap cars delivering 35 MPG to go to the moon. Remember 1973?

Actually with the top up the Sebring has a pretty good sized trunk and its rare that we have to have a bigger cargo area than either car has. There have been a few times we picked up something over-sized and put the top down and the item in the back seat of the convertible. Like a few years ago we picked up a couple of trees for the back yard and just put them in the back seat of the Sebring.

Well, my Sirius subscription ended last week and I no longer get weather, traffic or radio. I thought that I would try doing without this feature in the car since we have great HD radio stations down here and I use Bluetooth to listen to the 200+ songs I have on my iPhone. So far, I really don't miss satellite services at all.
What amazed me was the fact that I received no mail or emails trying to get me to renew my subscription - not one bit of advertising and no phone calls. That was very surprising! Usually I am bombarded with letters and email. Very surprising.

I might consider that. I never listen to satellite radio - I only use the traffic and weather features. Let's see if I get that letter - should be interesting.

Who builds them? Don't think it's a winner here in the US. Perhaps Europe? I'd rather have a motorcycle or one of those three-wheelers from Canada.

Isn't a Tuscon really an Elantra with an SUV type body on it?

Good luck with the book. It isn't easy getting published. Remember, these days you can do an e-book and it doesn't cost much. If the book takes off the publishers come to you.

My thoughts are I don't think your wife is going to think that will replace her dream of getting an SUV.
Also, the launch has been delayed until Spt 2015, so you may have to wait awhile.
The good news is 84 mpg/hwy, $6,800,
Bad news, wouldn't want to be rear ended by a Walmart (or other) transport truck.

That Elio thing seems a bit fishy to me. First, I don't believe for a minute that 20 thousand people actually paid to be in line. Also, the multitier pricing system for place in line smells to me, too. It looks like hidden crowd funding crossed with possible pyramid scheme.

My initial thoughts exactly. I looked for some news stories, and even the news stories make it sound like that's the plan - crowdfunding - and like it's not even a sure thing yet.

Looks like a CanAm with a hood over it. Cheaper though, $6800 vs. $20k for a CanAm.
