The convertible has a pretty good sized trunk when the top is down, most times we can fit tings in the trunk of at least one of the cars. There have been a few times with a larger sized item we just put the top down and put it in the back seat. Once we even brought home a couple of trees sitting in the back seats when we had the top down.

I really don't think the Elio will go anywhere. First off it is classified as a motorcycle which means you will need a motorcycle license to drive it, I don't see many going through the trouble of getting one. Plus as a motorcycle most states will require you to have a helmet, but I hear that Elio is trying to change that.
As for the $6,800 price tag; I think that is optimistic and I would be surprised if it it under $8K.

Hondas ride rough and Toyotas ride soft, but both are world leaders in reliability long term. Toyotas outsell Hondas about 5 to 1 so you can guess what Americans want.
Toyota does outsell Honda but I am pretty sure Honda makes more profit. Honda isn't in the numbers game race, they are satisfied with their market share. BMW, Volvo, M Benz are great while under warranty, but I wouldn't buy one after that unless it was a real bargain. Their maintenance is pricy. Not my cup of tea.
No maintenance worries if you trade them in after 4 or 5 years depending on warranty. May not be your cup of tea, but you are missing out on great engineering, as well as handling and quality of materials.
I'm looking for gas about $4 to $5 shortly and I expect to see cheap cars delivering 35 MPG
Gas should probably be about $2.50 to $2.75 today with normal inflation. But my 535 gets 30 mpg on the highway........1980 cars got around 20 mpg (Chev 16 city, 24 highway), so it isn't as bad as it seemed.

That begs the question, by "no maintenance worries" are you talking about costs (covered under warranty) or are you talking about frequency of work done? The thing that keeps me away from high end cars is the fact that most people tell me that they do require more work done on them. To me taking a car in for work above and beyond routine maintenance is a hassle even if it is paid for by someone else. I mean if I can go 150K miles on a $20K car with only doing routine maintenance then I better be able to do that on a $60K car.

Well, my Sirius subscription ended last week and I no longer get weather, traffic or radio. I thought that I would try doing without this feature in the car since we have great HD radio stations down here and I use Bluetooth to listen to the 200+ songs I have on my iPhone. So far, I really don't miss satellite services at all.
What amazed me was the fact that I received no mail or emails trying to get me to renew my subscription - not one bit of advertising and no phone calls. That was very surprising! Usually I am bombarded with letters and email. Very surprising.
I was a Sat radio subscriber for years, always enjoyed the variety. The Q50 is my first car with HD radio and I've found it an acceptable substitute and the sound quality is much better than SXM.
The traffic and weather were neat but I can get the same info for free on my phone so I haven't bothered renewing.

Well it is their estimate (I checked their estimates for my current ride and I know I have bested it by a few MPG's), and it is combined. I will tell you this, I had that car when I was first in the service and I drove back and forth from Ohio multiple times. On the trip I always filled it up on the last service station on the Indiana Toll road (or first depending on which direction you were going). Now I just did a goggle map thingy (yes that's a technical term) on the distance between that service area and the gas station where I would have filled up at the start of the trip, it comes to 338 miles. Now if I would have used a full tank (I remember the gas tank on that car being 20 gallons but your site has 19 so we will go with that) it would have been just under 18 MPG highway (the whole 338 miles would have been highway with three stops at toll plazas). However I would have somewhere between 1/8th to 1/4 of a tank left, that would have put me in the low 20's easily.

As for underwear - I'd pay someone locally to wash my unmentionables instead of doing it in the sink.
Yeh, I agree, if I needed road side assistance it is well worth the cost. Ialso found just the discount for rental cars and motel rooms often covered the cost.
It is hard to find a place that will wash out underwear when you are staying in a hotel in London, Dublin, Belfast, Edinborough, or Glasgow or some of these other cities. Also, it's a 15 day trip so taking 15 pairs of underwear might cost an extra $50 for overweight luggage...have to cutback somehow.
@oldfarmer50 said:They sell underwear at AAA? Ewwwwwww!

Yeh, and I had to hand the packages of underwear to the pretty young lady to ring it through. Tilley underwear - you can travel the world with only 2 pair of underwear - costs $20 each!
Speaking about cashiers, the guy on the radio was telling a story about how he was at the supermarket and he had 8 items so he went into the 12 items or less aisle. The little old lady behind him started yelling at him and told him he had a lot of nerve getting into the 12 or under line when he had a bag that had 24 buns in it. He tried to explain the package of buns are only one item, but she wouldn't accept that. He even explained at most the buns were two items, 2 sheets of buns stuck together and just perforated where you tear them apart.

Well look at it this way if I was getting 15.4 MPG with a 19 gallon tank I would have run out of gas 45 miles before I got to that gas station. Even it it was reading high I was getting way more than what that site stated was the MPG.
But I did do the miles traveled divided by gallons used and I was getting in the low 20's.

But, I hadn't used them in 20 years and now they limit me to 3X in one year! Shouldn't I get some kind of carry over like I do with a Pay as You Go phone?

I think there are always cars that for some unknown reason do better than average. And, as you well know, an average is just the average, some cars will do better, some worse. Your car did better, and you may have driven your car at a steady slower steady optimum speed to get the best possible results.

I will have my fancy new tablet with me, and it would be easier to ask at the desk where there is a coin laundry, but a few problems. I have almost never seen a coin laundry in a major European city, our travel councelor said it will be hard to find a place to do laundry, and do you really want to spend a few hours doing laundry when you are on a vacation in some of the most interesting cities in the world?

Here is a AAA story for you:
My grandmother was T-Boned by a car backing out of their driveway onto a busy roadway a few weeks ago. She called Mercedes roadside assistance, and they gave her an ETC of 2.5 hours to come out and get the car through their provider.
My Dad met her on the scene of the accident and called AAA using his membership. They were on scene within 15 minutes.
My wife and I each have a AAA Plus membership - I have roadside assistance on my car, my wife does not, though I do not put a whole lot of faith in the contractors the car manufacturers use to support their roadside assistance programs. I think the membership is worth it for that alone, let alone the discounts I get.

My reason for AAA+ is the same. We have towing under the insurance we have. We have tire service with the Michelin tires we bought, but waiting for them after calling the 800 number
is something I've never tried if a tire has lost air, e.g..
Have AAA for son's car in Columbus and between home and there as well as on our cars here.
It's probably higher on my list than Sirius will be for my Malibu.
Edit:
I forgot that Chevrolet will tow my Malibu. I'll have to read what all service they offer from the manufacturer for roadside as well.
I've read the Sirius talk here and am waiting to see if Sirius contacts me about the trial ending on my Malibu. I find the gas station listing of little use other than historical knowledge of what stations are already behind me traveling on the interstate. The system doesn't give advance notice for someone moving at 70 mph.
And then it offers to call the station instead of giving a quick summary of how to get there.
I have 3 Sirius stations I like in small amount of time I've been in the car: The Bridge, Fox News, and Fox Business.
I'm another one who has a current AAA membership. Daughter's MINI and my Elantra both have roadside assistance through the manufacturer, but I like having the piece of mind.
We've probably used it about once a year. $119 is a small price to pay.
With all the criticism of GM, there are other cars, all cars, that can have problems. I noticed this recall has a 10-year potential history and involves air bags. If your air bag doesn't work properly, you're in trouble.
"In 2013, carmakers including Toyota, Honda Motor Co (7267.T), Nissan Motor Co (7201.T) and BMW (BMWG.DE) recalled about 3.6 million vehicles because of flaws in Takata air bag inflators that could cause them to explode in an accident."
The troubling part is that the company says the record keeping may have been flawed. They mention possibly 10 years involved in not knowing if the proper physico-chemical conditions were used for the materials and production of the airbag inflators.

I don't think we have a problem with recalls. All manufacturers will have them and as cars become more complex we will have more. Recalls are actually a good thing up to a point, shows the manufacturer will fix a potential problem.
The problem is if recalls are are avoided and if there is a cover-up, especially for 10 years. That's when you have to be concerned. That indicates the manufacturer is not being responsible, and has no concern for their customers.

On one trip the 74 Charger with the same 318 I managed to squeeze 21 mpg out of the smog control choked motor. (Had to do just 45 all the way).

I belong to AAA. Our RDX comes with roadside, but the other cars don't. I like the kids to have it too. I actually use the travel site quite a bit. I like it, and find the prices to be cheaper most of the time. I can't stand the sites that are a big mystery, and everything is non-refundable.

They sell underwear at AAA? Ewwwwwww!
I still have membership and with the junk I run it always pays for itself.

Good news for one of my kids.

Half a hundy to start, medical bennies from day one, 401k with match, 3 weeks vaca after 2 years, some relocation expenses.
I never had it so good.
oops
If your Chrysler product had an accurate gas gauge...not sure how accurate they were.

2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I keep thinking I should but never needed it so far. Now watch me need it tomorrow.
While we are on this subject they now have roadside assistance for bicycles.

Not sure I made it clear...the 24 buns were in one bag (that's how they were packaged) so he thought of them as 1 item. It would be like buying a loaf of bread and counting it as 20 slices of bread.

I hadn't made a call to AAA for roadside assistance for about 20 years. Then, a few people were getting their roofs done on our street, and within 2 months we had 3 flat tires....had to call AAA. After the 3rd one they told me they wouldn't come again for one year.

I recommend you take your fancy new tablet, find some free wi-fi and google launderettes. I'm sure the first world cities you are visiting have them. Or ask at the front desk.

Or, like the judge who sentences a lady who stole a can of peaches;, "Since there were 4 peaches in the can I am going to sentence you to one day in jail for each peach you stole, 4 days in jail". "Anyone have anything else to say?" Her husband stands up and says, "Well judge, I would also like to report she also stole a can of peas".

I understood that. That's why I would have had a talk with a manager before I left the store.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
My reason for AAA+ is the same.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I've read the Sirius talk here and am waiting to see if Sirius contacts me about the trial ending on my Malibu.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
I'm another one who has a current AAA membership.

If your air bag doesn't work properly, you're in trouble.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/06/11/us-toyota-recall-idUSKBN0EM0F620140611

Oh, my problem would be the sign that says 12 items or less. It should say 12 items or fewer. Unless they were charging you by the bun I think you're in the clear.
