I have a 1996 Pontiac Trans Sport with the power sliding door. Which of WG's policies will cover any problems with this door. I am currently still under the 3year/36k mile warranty of Pontiac.
    Thanks,
    tt66

    tt66,

Our Diamond Plan will cover the power sliding door on your vehicle. The Diamond Plan is our Bumper-To-bumper Plus plan. If you are interested, give us a call or contact us via email (info@warrantygold.com) and we can tell you more about it. Also, if you purchase an extended warranty from us or from anyone else before your 3year/36k factory plan expires, you will save money.

    Take care,

I have a 98 Toyota Tacoma. It has a 3 year 36,000 bumper to bumper and a 60 month 60,000 mile powertrain warranty. So I guess that a WG platinum 6 year policy would not be useful, just the 7 year/100,000 right? Not sure how hw cost effective that would be.Can you help?

I am desperately searching for feedback on the Warranty Gold coverage. Has ANYONE actually had a claim paid to/for them for a covered repair?!?!
I have seen a multitude of claims as to how the claims process works in theory, and what each plan covers( or doesn't cover) but there is a glaring absence of testimonials once the warranty is purchased...
Also, am I correct in assuming that the refund of premium is based on the greater ratio...i.e.miles driven per miles covered vs.years owned vs.year covered?
  • j_colemanj_coleman Member Posts: 143
I don't think you get the "Good as Gold" refund of premium unless you pay an extra $150. That's what they told me. And you would get it back once the warranty expires and you haven't filed any claims against it.
  • depmandepman Member Posts: 2
If you look at their FAQ's on their web site, refunds can be given based on either time or mileage, whichever is less $$, minus a $35 fee. The "Good as Gold" allows you to have the warranty in effect for the enitre life of the contract and with no claims, receive a full refund. However, you do need to pay the up-front fee to have this option.
  • j_colemanj_coleman Member Posts: 143
There are probably more parts in your car that the platinum plan does not cover than parts that are covered. But it gets the major ones.
  • fcbcdwfcbcdw Member Posts: 7
Yes, you are right. But I got the option to check the warranty for 60 days before I actually purchase it. So, I'll take a real careful look on it. Thanks!!!
  • bwoolerybwoolery Member Posts: 2
I bought a WG Diamond Plan in Nov. 98 for my 98 Pontiac TransSport Van. It is now paid off. If I go to 100,000 miles w/o using it, is it true I can get all my premium back? I wasn't informed of any "Good as Gold" plan when I bought it.
  • j_colemanj_coleman Member Posts: 143
That's a good question. It seems that some people have received the "Good as Gold" guarantee at no charge. I have seen posts from other people saying they had to pay $50 or $100 to get it. When I inquired about it recently they told me it would cost me an extra $150. It's probably safe to say if it's not in your contract, you ain't gonna get it.

I have a WG 100K/7y plan on a car that approaches 60K miles. My mechanic recommends to change timing belt and water pump at 60k service. Those parts are covered by my plan. Will WG pay for replacement of parts that worn out though didn't failed yet, or should I wait till my belt fails and let WG pay for engine rebuilt?
  • whitfiljwhitfilj Member Posts: 11
According to everything we have heard about WG they should pay for this. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us know exactly what happens with this issue since everyone on this board has been dying to hear some real world data about WG. PLEASE follow up!
  • shandonshandon Member Posts: 1
I don't think WG or any warranty would pay for this. I'm pretty sure if you check your contract it will say you need to follow the manufacture's maintenance recommendations to keep the parts covered.
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
Warranty Gold will pay for any Worn part that is covered by our service contract. Please feel free to e-mail me at tonyr@warrantygold.com for further knowledge of how Warranty Gold does business.
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
In response to the "Good as Gold" policy, Warranty Gold charges $150 for this clause and only vehicles with less than 24,000 miles, and those that purchase a 7 yr., 100,000 mile platinum or diamond plan qualify for this exception. I enjoy answering these and any other questions, so keep them coming.

    Sincerely,

    Thank you, Tony!
It's actually several monthes till I'll need the timing belt and water pump. This is what I've expected when I purchased WG 2 years ago. If I encounter any problems, I'll e-mail you.
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
No problem, sir. The water pump is covered immediately on any plan. The timing belt, however, needs to be replaced according to the Manufacturer's guidelines.

  • gpumpkingpumpkin Member Posts: 5
Well, not quite yet. But it looks as if Oleg will get WG to pay for a water pump, although not a timing belt.
    Please keep us posted, Oleg.
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
    To whom it may concern,

If you read my previous statement closely, you will notice that I said the timing belt needs to be replaced according to the manufacturer's warranty. However, if the timing belt goes out before the recommended time of 60,000 miles, we will replace it. Also, if you replace your timing belt at 60,000 miles and it goes out in a few thousand more, we will gladly replace it.

    Thank you,

I'll admit that's pretty good coverage.
If the belt breaks at 50,000 miles, does WG cover the whole cost, or just a pro-rated amount?
  • olegphilolegphil Member Posts: 30
When I was buying WG in '97 I specifically asked about timing belt and was assured that it's covered. There were no ifs, ors or buts. Was I intentionally misled by your associate or have you chaged rules of the game?
  • SPYDER98SPYDER98 Member Posts: 239
Let me see if I understand this. Naturally WG will cover the timing belt before 60k.

But when replacing the belt, the mechanic will always highly recommend replacing the waterpump. Even if there's nothing wrong with it.

If someone chooses not to replace the waterpump and it fails at let say 80k miles. It does not say in the maintenance booklet to replace the waterpump at anytime.
Does WG cover the replacement of the waterpump?

Also one more thing, does WG cover valve adjusting?
I own a 98 spyder, and my valves are starting to tick really loud.
    Will WG cover the expense?
It does not say in the book, that this is a maintenance item.
    I currently own a 5year/150k diamond plan.

    thanks...Rob

Technically, timing belt shouldn't be replaced for manufacturer's warranty. Here is exerpt from the Toyota schedule:
    60,000 Miles or 48 Months
    • Replace engine oil and oil filter

    • Rotate tires

    • Replace engine coolant

    • Replace engine air filter

    • Repack rear wheel bearings (Paseo, Tercel)

    • Replace spark plugs (maintenance service required under the Emission Control Warranty)

    • Replace limited-slip differential oil (Supra)
    Inspect the following:

    • Valves (audible inspection), adjust if necessary

    • Drive belts

    • Fuel lines and connections, fuel tank vapor vent system hoses, fuel tank band

    • Fuel tank cap gasket

    • Charcoal canister (72 months) -- Non-maintenance item except for CA, MA, NY

    • Exhaust pipes and mountings

    • Brake: linings, discs/drums, lines, hoses

    • Ball joints and dust covers

    • Drive shaft boots (re-torque flange bolts)

    • Steering linkages

    • Automatic transmission and differential oil

    • Rack and pinion assembly for leakage

Additional Maintenance items for Special Operating Conditions:
    • Replace timing belt -- only required for extensive idling or low-speed driving for long distances as in heavy commercial use, such as delivery, taxi, or patrol car

    • Replace transmission and differential oil

    • Inspect body/chassis nuts and bolts

I'm not using my car for deliveries, patrolling streets or towing motor home. So, I guess, WG should cover the timing belt. Where is that Tony guy from WG? Is he going to do his job and dismiss any customers' concerns?
  • SPYDER98SPYDER98 Member Posts: 239
I hope valve jobs are covered, I might need one soon.
There is not one mention of valves in my maintenance schedule.
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
    Gentlemen,

Warranty Gold gladly covers the water pump in all of our coverages. We also cover your valve jobs, SPYDER, under our definition of FAILURE-when a covered part has worn beyond the manufacturer's tolerances allowed for the particular Vehicle at the mileage when the problem occurs. As for you, OgelPhil, I apologize for any previous statements but can assure you that I will not lead you astray.
  • SPYDER98SPYDER98 Member Posts: 239
Thanks for answering the questions. My worries are gone :)

Until I think of something else...
  • olegphilolegphil Member Posts: 30
Thanks, Tony, for your answer! Still, the question with the timing belt is unclear.

As you can see, Toyota requires timing belt replacement only for Special Operating Conditions. So, will WG cover it if my mechanic still recommends to replace it?

If I decline replacement, given there is nothing special about my vehicle operating conditions, and timing belt fail, say, at 90K, will WG cover it?
  • SE92692SE92692 Member Posts: 10
I don't know where some of you guys are coming from, but absolutely NO extended warranty will cover regular maintenace on any part of any vehicle - period!!

If the manual says to change belts, air filter, etc at 30,000 miles, then you have to do it! However, if a belt breaks before that - say at 28,000 miles and causes some damage to other components, then the extended warranty should cover all resulting damages. If you wait til 40,000 miles and it breaks causing damage, the warranty company may or may not (and probably won't) cover any failed component because you were supposed to change it at 30,000 miles or whatever the interval is. I am not speaking for Warranty Gold on this issue, but it has been my experience that virtually all of the extended warranties work this way.

I'm very pleased with the replies that the WG reps have been giving. I think it is an excellent representation of a serious customer service commitment. Well done.

I have a question, Does WG require that the normal maintenance work ie: oil change, belt adjustments, filter replacements, brake pad & shoe replacement etc, work be performed by "Authorized" service personel or can I do the work myself? Will doing the work myself void coverage?

Planning on purchasing a 2k neon for da wife and will definitely be shopping for ESP.

    Thanks

It's my understanding, WG will cover a rental car for any warranty covered repair over 8hours. (1day)

    Scenario:
    What if,
My car was experiencing intermittent hesitation problems under full throttle. The car is still drivable. Except when the peddle is put to the floor.
I take it to the shop, they experience the problem, but find nothing wrong.
They say we need the car for a week to troubleshoot the problem.

Will WG provide a rental car while the car is in the shop getting looked at?

    thanks...

Is Warranty Gold void if I change the tire size?

Reason why I ask this is that when I purchased my vehicle new, I notice the tire size on the door panel was different then the actual size tires on the vehicle. When I brought it to the dealers attention, he said this vehicle has custom wheeels and tires and was still covered under the factory warranty even though there was a slight difference other then stock in tire size. Does this hold true under Warranty Gold? Meaning does Warranty Gold still cover this vehicle bumper to bumper,or does it void the warranty on this. vehicle?
  • vandeanovandeano Member Posts: 27
What I mean to the above question, is that if I should have a problem with the transmission or anything else, is it still covered by the warranty even though the tires size is different other then stock. The dealer where I purchased the vehicle said that the Factory warranty still covered everthing. He said, since it was purchased like that new from us, everthing is still cover under Warranty. Is this true for Warranty Gold? or will I have to purchase the extended warranty from dealer to get the factory coverage
  • tonyrossi1tonyrossi1 Member Posts: 6
Our warranty will cover your vehicle as well. Our warranty mirrors the manufacturer's warranty.

Just in case Warranty Gold misses this post in the "Talk to the Warranty Gold Team" topic.

I still haven't made up my mind although I am
definately leaning to a manufacturer backed plan.
Let's see if Warranty Gold can change my mind by
actually answering a few questions raised before
    for months in this forum:

A few UN-ANSWERED questions for Warranty Gold:

    1. What is warranty gold's cancellation policy.
For instance if I pay $1000 for a policy and cancel 5 years into a 7 year contract how much do I get back? Is it the rule of "78"?

    2. At what point do you send an investigator out
to check a questionable repair? Is it a certain
dollar amount? Is it a certain type of failure?

    3. How long does it take your investigators to
arrive on the seen? Is there a guaranteed response time?

    4. If a car is out of service for an extended time
is a rental car provided? For how much per day?
    For how long maximum?

    5. Concerning "Good as Gold" do I get my original
warranty cost back as well as the extra "Good as
Gold" enrollement fee if I don't make a claim
during the term? How long does that refund take?

    6. What happens if a repair shop doesn't accept
your payment system? Do I have to come up with
payment? How long until I get reimbursed? Is there a guaranteed minimum timeframe? Will you without question pay the repair bill in full?

    7. Do you authorize original factory parts or do
    you authorize generics if avaliable.

That's enough for now. Lets see how warranty gold
does with some focused questions which I am sure
everyone would like to know the answers to. Will
Warranty Gold step up to the plate or continue to
    "bob and weave"?

    Diesel Driver

P.S. Edmunds please don't hide my post I feel it
is well within my rights to ask Warranty Gold these questions as a consumer. Thank You.

Is there a toll-free number to the BBB ???

I find it hard to believe there isn't one! I'm not going to pay for a call that should be free for consumers.

Please provide a toll-free # because I will definately check you out before risking any money. Thanks.

From the Warranty Gold eerrrrr Edmunds website:

Why does Edmund's recommend Warranty Gold vehicle service contracts?

Edmund's reviewed OUR programs and determined that they are superior to others in terms of coverage, price, and customer service. Below, we highlight some items which set Warranty Gold apart from other service contract providers.
With Warranty Gold, you can select between four different levels of coverage for new and two levels for used vehicles, choosing the plan which will best meet the coverage needs for your particular vehicle, driving, budgeting, and ‘peace of mind’ requirements. We seek to provide great value for our customers!

Continues on with infomecial type statements.

    Thanks for your responses!

I do need a little more clarification on some of your answers though.

    Re: Question 1.

So the amount I would get back on a $1000 at the end of year 5 in a 7 year contract is 29% of the original $ 1000 or $290 refund. Is this correct?

If I find that the first time I have the opportunity to make a claim (year 3 or later) and Warranty Gold doesn't work for me do I get my entire $1000 back or just the prorated amount (ie 58% or $580 at the start of year 3)

If I get a claim paid by WG and decide to cancel later does this affect the pro-rated refund amount? Can I cancel at that point? Even if you paid a claim?

Do I get any portion I put into your "Good as Gold" provision back if I cancel ? Is that $100 or so prorated as well if you do refund that back?

Thanks for answering my questions. If I decide to buy I'll be sure to keep your answers in a file so I (and others) can use your answers should "issues" arise down the road.
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
    Re: Question 2

So am I to understand that only in cases in which the repair amount is going to exceed the going rate by twice will you send out an investigator?

Or do you reserve the right to investigate any repair even if it doesn't exceed the going rates by much?

Investigations are based soley on exeeding the going rates by a great amount? Is it true that types of failures don't trigger an investigation?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
    Re: Question 3

You did not respond (I'm sure this was an oversight)

I'll repeat it here for and wait for your answer:

How long does it take your investigators to arrive on the scene? Is there a guaranteed response time?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
Do you pay the rental car company directly (corporate credit card) or do I pay out of pocket and get reimbursed? If so how long does that take?

Do I need to purchase damage insurance for the rental? Is that part of the $30 a day?

Is the rental coverage good on any covered repair and for multiple times during the contract?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
So if a repair shop doesn't accept your payment system OR what you are willing to pay in terms of what they want to repair my car I then contact your administrator for authorization correct?

What hours and days is an administrator availiable to authorize claims?

I pay the repair shop directly correct and get reimbursed? What if I don't have the money or forgot my wallet am I just out of luck?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
How long does it take to get reimbursed on a covered repair that I had to pay?

    Is there a guaranteed timeframe?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
You did not answer this question (I'm sure this was another oversight)

So for your convienence I'll post it here:

Does Warranty Gold authoriz original factory parts or do you authorize generic parts for repairs?

    and I'll add:

Can a WG customer insist the repair be done with only factory parts and will WG approve that factory parts be used even though cheaper generic parts were availiable as well?
  • diesel5diesel5 Member Posts: 11
I do appriciate your time in answering questions and appriciate your answers being as direct and to the point as possible.

I along with many other consumers find your lack of response to this forum in the past, well disturbing especially when tough questions were being asked. I do appriciate the renewed commitment from both Edmunds and Warranty Gold to address questions and issues raised in this forum in a timely manner.

Remember your answers are being saved and printed out and as a representitive of warranty gold these documents will be evidence of what warranty gold presented as fact before I bought the contract should any dispute between WG and I arise years down the road.

Thanks again for your time and honesty.

It'll be great to hear Warranty Gold's response to these very specific and relevent questions. Great idea of printing out their response as sort of an insurance policy down the road should things get bumpy.

I still think I've made up my mind. Well let's wait and see what Warranty Gold has to say.

    Thanks Guru
