I like everyone else try to keep an open mind. I think what would be useful is for all of the people who have had good/bad experiences to post the contact information of the dealerships they dealt with for getting the auto fixed. If they really want to prove a point they could post or email the VIN# of the car and we could use that to verify the service was performed.
That way we could call actual dealerships an find out how well the warranty compaines work/don't work with the 3rd party insurers.
It's just a thought. I, like everyone else am struggling with how to independently verify the service of these comapies. It's too bad the Edmund's doesn't perform an evaluation similar to what they do for the autos. I'd be interested in the thoughts of others along these lines.
my wife drives a 98 ford windstar with 42000 miles.about a week ago,i noticed a squeaking noise coming from the front suspension and when the steering wheel is moved back and forth.i had the vehicle checked at a local ford dealership and was advised "tie rod ends are binding" and will need to replace. contacted w.g. but coverage was refused as w.g. claims "tie rod ends" are a normal wear and tear item. called ford motor company customer service , found out even the basic"ESP" service( ford's extended warranty) covers tie rod end and that tie rod ends do not fall under the category " normal wear and tear". Warranty gold's refusal to honor my contract for this repair ( i have the new diamond contract) per their definition of"normal wear and tear" makes me wonder if i will be left holding the bill for future repairs.
Recently I've been doing my homework on extended warranties. Comparing bumper-to-bumper coverage from 5 different companies, WG was the most expensive.
I sent them an e-mail, asking them to convince me that I should pay more to do business with them. Their response was you would expect - we're great, the other guys aren't. But here's the catch...
They gave me incorrect information on 3 of the 4 competitors! I was able to verify within 45 minutes that the claims WG made about their competition were indeed false.
Personally, I don't do business with a company that lies to a potential customer. So, someone else will be getting my extended warranty business.
Wow!! It seems like you caught a case of the warranty blues. I, too, have researched extended warranties for quite some time now and you wouldn't believe some of the things I have heard while speaking with their sales reps. Not just Warranty Gold, but a few others of these like Warranty Bynet, 1Source, etc.. It is unfortunate that someone has misled you, but don't give up. There are some really good companies out there. From what I have found, Warranty Gold is the best one. I have e-mailed most of the folks with stories both good and bad on this forum to get real-life responses and guess which group either had no e-mail address or one that had the questions I asked returned to sender--That's right. That leads me to believe that most of the folks here are just having a good time at the expense of some other company. Even the guys at 1Source told me that some Warranty companies will do this. Keep in Mind that anyone can type on these forums. Best thing to do with any internet endeavor is to VERIFY, VERIFY, VERIFY!! I have narrowed my search to 1Source, Warranty Gold, and the dealership warranty. My needs match the plans at WG better, but we'll find out in December.
Wow! I'm really surprised your claim was denied. Since when do tie rods wear out at only 42k miles??? Even if they don't cover items that are wear and tear like this, I still thinks its "premature" wear and it should of been covered. Does it say anywhere in the owners manuel that tie rods should be replaced at a certain mileage? If not, I would fight this one!
I just retrieved a message left on my cell phone voice mail by the service advisor at the Ford dealership. Message was left Tuesday at 0830 am but I don't normally check my messages on my days off. Apparently , the service advisor received a call from Frank @ W.G. Claims Dept asking for a copy of the repair bill on the tie rod ends for the 98 Windstar, and that W.G. will reimburse me for the expense. I'm not sure if this is a response to the post on this site , or if W.G. reviews all denied claims and then make adjustments if necessary and "warranted". Either way , I'll watch for the check in the mail and when it arrives , I'll advise . 'til then......
Received reimbursement check from WG on Saturday. However, I was expecting a check for $161.11 ( amount paid less $50 deductible) but check was only for $117.68. I have yet to call WG to find out about the "discrepancy". I was surprised,though, on how quick the check was processed and mailed out.
I bought a new "bumper to bumper plus" (diamond) no deductible extented warranty from GW for my brand new car about 8 months ago. This extended warranty was bought under GW payment plan where I put $500 down and paid $100 a month.(if I remember correctly) I called up GW administration office to check out my account status the second month after buying GW extended warranty, the admin. representative officer told me that my account was cancelled 4 months ago. At that moment, I was so skepticism about how GW runs their business. Anyway, the admin. representative told me that she would call me back in a hr but she never did. So I called to GW again and finally i got my account straighten up. Three months later after that incident, I was out of the country for vacation for about 30 days. when I came back and I realized that I hadn't made payment to GW for a little more than a month. I immediately called GW again to make payment thru the phone but it was too late they already terminated my account without final notice or warning. I was so angry about GW even though it was my fault that i missed a payment. I talked to them and i even talked to the accountant but they said nothing they could do. " yeah right" However, the accountant did refer me to GW legal department, NOw i wonder did she refer me to legal dept.???????? I still think that they should at least send me a final notice about the termination. For those who said how good GW is about making claims, i think this is just how GW make money for those claims; otherwise, i don't see how they can survive if everyone is getting excellent claim from GM.
It died at 70k miles. I could'nt believe it. I always cooled her down and changed the oil with synthetic. But it just was'nt meant to be. WG saved my butt big time!
Sorry to hear about your experience with them. I've been very fortunate so far. My warranty has already paid for itself and then some. I still have another 75k miles/2 1/2 yrs of coverage left too...
My car was almost brand new and the mileage was 35.5 k before the factory warranty expired. NO, I have never filed any type of claim from WG. Yes, they terminated my account without giving out final notice and warning, and it was my last third payment. Three more $100 dollor payments to go, i would have finished the WG payment plan. As far as contract agreement i will need to look at the contract again and post it over here again later. I just find that this is just so unethnical to do business. I had my turbocharger replaced at 38k.mileage under factory warranty. Now i have turbo timer installed in my car. I am pretty sure the turbo will last longer. Turbo timer cost $150 campared to GW $1400+. Since you have a brand new turbocharge you might wanna think about installing a turbo timer before it goes bad and WG turns you around.
I don't have one, but I have an alternative method. My car has a remote starter installed in it and I have been using the option of turning on the system, then pulling the key out. After about a minute or 2, I normally shut my car off with the remote. I do this quite frequently and it seems to work very well. Since my cars classified as a sports coupe and was built for performance. I like to utilize its performance quite frequently. Mitsu's are'nt the most reliable cars around. Their average at best IMO. They were'nt built to withstand alot of miles like some of the other japenese car makers. IE. honda/toyota/nissan etc.. So a extended warranty on a car like this, is a wise decision. I still love my car though and would take it over a new celica, prelude or eclipse anyday! :-D

Well, yesterday I finally was able to take the truck in to have it looked at. Since I have another vehicle to drive I didn't need the rental car, and also is the reason why I took so long to take the truck in when I said I would when I first left a message back in Oct.
So far so good. I took the truck to a near by GMC dealership to see if they would except Warranty Gold extended warranty, and to my surprise they did. The service writer took a look at my contract and said lets give them a call. When he said that, I thought about all the horror stories people said about being put on hold for long periods of time, or just to hear a recorded message. Well, I did hear a recorded message, it said hold on for 2 minutes and someone will be with you right away, and sure enough someone was.
I do not know what was exactly said when the dealer spoke with someone at Warranty gold, but all I know was that after he was done speaking with WG, he said "its covered, sign here".
I will let you all know how this all unfolds.
P.S. A new transmission for my Suburban runs about $2,500. To me, the price I paid for the extended warranty was well worth it, just to have the peace of mind. (thats is if everything goes well with WG)
Well...My car broke down over the weekend again. The pulley connected to the motor is slanted and broken, which caused my alternator, a/c compressor serpentine belt to fall off its track. It will need towing to the dealer. I'll keep everyone informed on how the claim is handled.
I looked up the WG payment contract, actually WG didn't send me any written contract besides a payment book which was similar to a car payment booklet. The Cover page of the payment book is like this:
During the holidays, WG has been doing a lot of their own marketing, and responding to another company advertising extended warranties for as little as $499.
Warranty Gold's response has been to offer $500 in free gas to bring their $995 warranties down to $495.

My car was towed to the dealership, I had a new motor mount pulley and new serpentine belt installed. Total bill came out to $430. I had to suck up $150 of it. This went towards a new belt with labor and some of the towing cost. It would of been nice if wg covered the whole bill. It would of made life easier...but I can't complain. My WG contract has paid for itself and much more..

My 97 GMC K1500 Suburban transmission went out. and took it to a GMC Dealer to have it repaired. They looked at my contract with Warranty Gold, and then preceded to contact them by phone. And with in 10 to 15 min. WG gave the dealer OK to tear down tranny. Within a week had tranny repaired. $1800+ for repair. My cost, $50 ded. If you have any doubt, my truck was repair at BAY BUICK GMC, Torrance, California. speak with Jason. He was the service writer who spoke with WG the whole time.
I am also interested in hearing more WG stories. Also, what other warranties, considering affordability and service, would you consider their best competitors?

Two years ago, I purchased a Diamond WG Plan for my '99 Plymouth Voyager.
I am in the process of purchasing another vehicle. When I went to get a quote, WI was no longer listed. One of your reps told me that for 'business reasons' it was decided to longer sell the polciies in WI -- and that most 'other' Ext Warrenty companies are following suit.

Most other companies I found still sell in WI, but I would rather stay with yours as I have had only GREAT service on other cars which were covered by WG.
Is this only a temporary situation? Can I still purchased?

I would Just like to let everyone know that I have used WG 4 times and all 4 have been a good experience. My Pontiac Dealership told me that WG is one of the best after market Warranties that they have worked with. Ken

I own a 98 Chrysler T&C LXi AWD with 28k and factory warranty expires in 45 days. I want coverage for 7 more years/100,000 miles. I've gotten quotes on bumper to bumper from 1 Source @ $1324 and WG @ $1504. Both 0 deductible. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't go with 1 Source? I was told they don't cover timing belt first time but they do cover air bags, seals & gaskets and safety restraints and they said WG doesn't. Also they settle direct instead of WG using an administrator. Your comments are appreciated.

I thought the same thing before I looked into it. They don't cover thermostats, struts, etc. The company hasn't been around for too long either. not covering the thermostat, according to these forums, can cause an administrator to deny your claim based on an overheating charge. Don't judge a book by its cover.
i checked that website out about 6months ago and WG was the 5th or 6th best company out there. Now they have moved to the top of the list. Good for them.

I first heard of WG through edmunds. Did a little investigating, then decided to purchase a 5yr/150k diamond plan from them. I was worried about them at first, being their a 3rd party "internet" company out there. I'm sure others would of had similar concerns like I did after dishing out almost 1400 bucks! But I needed an extended warranty for my mitsubishi product, which has had a shaky track record for reliability. Just check consumer reports. They've killed the old eclipse's.
I also accumulate on an average of about 30k miles a year on vehicles. The main reason, I looked into WG is because they offered a 5yr/150k plan, which I never heard of and was happy to see.
But as my factory warranty expired and my car started to break down, it was time to see if WG was for real. As it turns out they are. I've gone through 4 claims so far. (Turbo, exhaust manifold, stereo and motor mount pulley) And all of them have been handled proffesionally. I've saved almost $3k in repairs so far!!! :-)

I'm sorry there are people out there who are skeptical like yourself. In all honesty, I'm a big skeptic, steriotype, naive type of guy myself. I would probably have my doubts too.
Look at the posts under the 1SourceAutoWarranty.com listing. They do NOT cover overheating in many situations, and in questions I and others put to them, they coughed up enough excuses to not pay for overheating damage to drive an 18-wheeler through!
Why is thermostat coverage so important? After all, a thermostat only costs about $6-11 bucks, right? Because, when it goes out and you don't catch it in time, it causes about $1500-3000 worth of engine damage, depending on the engine.
This can be your worst nightmare if you are stranded in Boondock, Montana, your car has blown a $2000 thingamajig, and you find out the hard way that any warranty company is not going to pay for your repairs.
Don't know if Warranty Gold is the way to go--they seem to have very good customer satisfaction so far. I have no association with WG whatsoever, but am leaning toward their warranty when my factory 3/36 expires on my Chevy truck.
If WG keeps up their good relationship with their existing customers, I will be buying from them. But under NO circumstances, including being several hundred dollars cheaper, would I buy the 1Source warranty! If you DID buy one, and are in their money-back window (30 days?) I would seriously consider getting a refund and buying from another company.
Remember, do NOT pay all your attention to what a warranty covers; pay a LOT of attention to what it does NOT cover. That means that a warranty agreement that clearly lists what is NOT covered is much stronger than one that only gives a list of covered parts.
