Just make sure you give it a look before buying something else, even if you think it's over your budget.

I was able to negotiate $1,800.00 below MSRP. (MSRP. plus the delivery charge). Is this a good deal? I pushed and pushed, but this is the best I could get.
By the way, it is a Limited with a Sunroof, side air bags, spoiler and CD changer. The color is Silver (the sales manager said that made a difference because that is the most popular color along with Black - but I thought this was a bunch of bull).
I am interested to know if you all think that I got ripped.
Also, the dealership allowed me to take home their demonstrator -- to help me make up my mind. I really was impressed. All the (few) negative things I have heard about this vehicle did not really seem that big of a deal.
1. Shaking of car when opening one rear window. This only occurred when I rolled one of the two rear windows all the way. When are you going to drive on the highway with only one of the rear windows rolled down all the way. This is not big deal and is clearly caused by the vacuum that is created and probably occurs in all vehicles this size.
2. The bass on the stereo. This is definitely apparent -- but not as big a deal as everyone says.
3. The cheesy mastic looking/carbon fiber trim. This kind looks cool and even my wife, who is picky about everything, said what's all the fuss.
A few final comments. The steering has a bit too much play, the seats could be a bit more comfy and the thing could get a bit better gas mileage. But overall this thing blows away everything in its class. This is a class "A" vehicle. Let’s just hope that the quality is the same as all the other Toyota products.
If they are in the back seats, are they any danger to children in car seats?
Please help.

If the SUV is hit by a car, most impact would be low; the side curtains would certainly help any adult's recoiling head impact and prevent broken glass from coming in, but then there are abdominal considerations. For restrained children, any lateral movement in the childseat could be against the door, depending on how low the curtain goes.
If the SUV is hit by another SUV or minivan, the forces are obviously higher (though not like they're crashing through the window, however), and maybe the curtains help adults more but there's still the children issue?
E.g. the M-class started with rear side airbags, and curtains will come in 2002; that just seems like a more logical progression.
On Fog Lamps,it's interesting because one of the dealerships I got in touch with said that Fog Lamps can actually be installed at the dealership for $375, parts and labor. I forgot to verify if these are Toyota parts or other aftermarket accessories. If true, this brings in two points: (1) At least we can install it on an SR5 and (2) the price seems to be slightly less than the $180 + $180 + $100 = $460 that people previously mentioned. I still wished I would not have to pay over $200 for it.

If the side airbags were mounted in the door, might they not provide optimal cushioning depending on the angle of the seatback and the passenger? I'm sure they're made longer than they are tall to help compensate for this (remembering your pictures), but it doesn't guarantee a "sweet spot." Whereas a seat-mounted seatbag would provide "sweet spot" cushioning regardless of seatback incline and seat aft/rear positioning?

You should have spend more and gone for an LX470!!!!! It has auto lights and auto everything, except it still won't drive itself. It still needs a driver. It is great. I have one. Yeah, the LX470 is more than the SEQ, but it is just my style, I guess.
As for worrying about battery run down.....you can get an aftermarket baterry installed in your SEQ with battery run down protection.......this would be an under $100 option vs a $20000 option to upgrade to the LX470 vs the SEQ you currently have.
Really.....If you are happy with your SEQ.....then that is ALL THAT MATTERS.....I am sure that Toyota is working on improvements on the SEQ already as they are also working on improvements on the LX470. I think one of the problems with the demestic products is that they are so busy working on the fancy gadgets on the car/truck and they forgot the primary goal and that is all the fancy gadgets won't do anything for you if the vehicle is broken down......TRY TO MAKE A DODGE MINIVAN TO LOCK ALL ITS DOORS AUTOMATICALLY AT 19 MPH.....IF THE MINIVAN IS BROKEN DOWN AND CAN'T MOVE AT ALL!!!!!@#$#%@# You get my point.
Enjoy your SEQ.
>The SQ can be switched to 4WD on the first day >of ownership and stay in that mode forever. It's >operation in that 4WD mode is the same as LC. >The SQ has the ADDITIONAL capability to run in >2WD that the LC doesn't.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hey thirdsuv,
NO WAY MAN!!!! I am not an expert on mechnical enginerring, but based on what I know and told by experts, the 4WD systems on the LC/LX470 are totally different compared to the SEQ.
Yah.......GO AHEAD AND LEAVE THE 4WD ENGAGED IN YOUR SEQ AT ALL TIMES AND SEE HOOOOWWWWW LLLOOOOOONNNGGGGG (ACTUALLY HOW SHORT) your SEQ's 4WD transmission system will last!!!!!! Seriously DON'T DO IT....IT WILL WEAR OUT A LOT SOONER......SURELY BEFORE YOU ARE DONE WITH YOUR PAYMENT OF THE SEQ. The LC/LX470 on the other hand are designed to be engaged AT ALL TIMES....as matter of fact...you can not disengage the 4WD system.....that is the beauty of the permanent 4WD system.
a SEQ! out the door price of $36,500 with the following options. AC, AH, CC, CQ, CF, DR, GN, HP and LA Sky Silver Metallic with light charcoal interior. I bought it at Gatorland Toyota (352)376-3262. I cant wait to drive it home. As far as all the fuzzes about shaking of car when opening one rear window, wind noise when travelling over 65, stereo bass, clicking/ticking sounds and " transmission thump". you know, I didnt see/hear all of these negatives during the test drive, or its not a big deal to ME this SUV handles smooth and very quiet! The best bet is to drive it yourself and observe em. I believe SEQ is an outstanding SUV which will last me a long time with minimal trouble. Questions: Driver seat power lumber, is it part of CC package?. i didnt get the Toyo guard protection group. is it worth it?? how can i get fog lights and what brand should i get? youre input appreciated.
Now for the good part:
The silver sky limited had a 45,054 MSRP. I got it for 42,349 which is 2705 below MSRP. This included everything (even 249 that dealer insisted on for "overhead",what BS! ) except tax, tag and title. I know it's not the best deal ever, but I don't think I got beat-up too bad. Whataya think ?
Thanks again, Hamhead
To play devils advocate, your statement
"the Sequoia has the exact same 4WD system as the Land Cruiser (and LX 470) with the exception of the ability to be in 2WD" is contradictory.
It can't be "exactly the same" but have something different.
I would consider it to be "exactly the same" if the two vehicles had the identicle component part numbers on the whole drive system and the SEQ has added some computer programming and control sequence of the pumpkins to allow 2WD. If thats the case that's great.
I'm sure netmiami will make the arguement that there are different pumpkins or other drive components (I don't know if that is the fact) and therefore the SEQ reliability is unproven.
Do you know which case is closer to the truth?
cheers
Then again, you'd buy this truck for little Muffy the Mrs. who puts 4 miles a day on it....
Physically, they're different systems mainly since the Sequoia has a transfer case that allows the front prop shaft to be disengaged (hence 2WD - specifically rear wheel drive mode) whereas the Land Cruiser/LX470 does not. That's the distinction between full-time 4WD and permanent 4WD systems. The former has a 2WD mode, whereas the latter is always sending power to the four wheels, regardless of road conditions. Both systems have centre differentials which allow 4WD to operate on dry roads without drivetrain/powertrain damage. The problem is that so many different auto magazines, auto manufacturers use different (and often conflicting) terms to describe AWD/4WD that the consumers get confused.
Hope this clear this up!

Has anyone experienced a problem similar to this one ? Is this a potentially serious problem or possibly just an electronic glitch ? After being a lifelong Toyota supporter, I had some reservations about buying the "American Built" Toyota Sequoia....I hope this problem is minor and the first and last that I will have with this vehicle.

I'd like to think you are right because that would mean less wear on the front drive components and a little better summer mileage, but in theory it could be done either way.
Thanks...
(which is rumored to be $100)
Wireless remote control switch = $50
or
Existing Low beam circuit driving relay = $10 (fog lights always on with low beams) Please...no flames on the wisdom of this choice. There's an existing another forum for that.

Why ?
Anyone with kids young enough for car seats has no business in a 42-thousand dollar truck. You belong in a 1975 Plymouth Duster, vinyl seats, bald snow tires, and no a/c.
Then again, you'd buy this truck for little Muffy the Mrs. who puts 4 miles a day on it....
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Yes my wife and I have two babies and they are both in diapers.........
Yes, they both require car seats......
And YES, we all ride in the LX470.........
And YES.....the LX470 at JM LEXUS in S. FL where we bought the new LX470 from were shocked to see ALL OF US. Oh, well.....that's what we wanted an LX470. So far the truck served us well and will continue to do so until something new comes out.
In my opion, if one buys a vehicle and not use it and drive it...then what is the point of having it.......don't get me wrong...I don't abuse the LX470. I just think and feel better that my family deserves the best vehicle that I could possibly get.....in this case an LX470. But if I am just traveling a short distance to my office by myself......I take my old van instead and leave the LX470 to my wife and kids.....
p.s....btw if you can buy a new LX470 for 42....please let me know....I will buy another one. As mentioned by Mikeh14....he seemed to have gotten a great deal on the LX470 for 42!!??? I thought I did OK with JM LEXUS?????
Enjoy your LX470
I am looking for input here for a sec. As you all know, the brochure says the "PM" package has leather etc and mentions heated front seats, but I was told by a buyer/owner that his "PM" car had no heated seats. I know that on the east coast and the southern states, there is a port-installed leather that isn't in the "PM" package that is done to cars, and isn't heated seats.
Is there anyone here in the western US area with the actual "PM" package on their MSRP who can clear up my confusion? I want to simply know if the "PM" package = leather heated front seats or was the brochure mis-printed? I mean, it happens, and Toyota does have the right to make changes after a brochure is designed and mass produced, but 'til I see a "PM" car (we have to order build these) I can't be sure.

And, my real point is this:
It pisses me off to see people who don't work (either housewives or Mr. Mom's) yet still feel they need a 40K+ vehicle to basically go to the grocery store and make sure Johnny gets to soccer practice on time. It's just not necessary!
Before everyone responds, I know that housewives probably work harder than I do most days, and that it is absolutely a full-time job. You certainly have my respect because I couldn't do it myself.
You just don't need a big SUV.
Or maybe I'm just an [non-permissible content removed]. You tell me.
"maybe I'm just an [non-permissible content removed]"
uhhhh....yep
Tha absolute lowest cost method is that you just connect the low beam wire of the headlight to the fog light. That however is not a good idea because the extra current draw of the fog lights could possible overload the wire/relay/fuse for. the existing low beam and obviously cause problems.
Instead, a better way is to use the low beam wire to drive the COIL of a NEW relay which is a very small amount of extra cuurent for the low beam circuit. Then you add a NEW wire/fuse from fuse panel and run it through the switch part of the relay and that drives your fog light. The result is that when ever the low-beams are on the relay will be activated and the fog lights will be on. When you switch to high beams, the fogs go off as normal. The downside for this whole circuit is that the fog lights are ALWAYS on when your low beams are on. Some people object to that mode of operation.
cheers
Another things I just curiously why TOYOTA having two(2) different wiring systems for Sequoia? I maybe wrong on this, any comments will be helpful.

So my question for you is.......Where and HOW do you see ANY 40K+++ vehicle fit in?????? I forgot if you mentioned you own a 40K++++ vehicle?? If so what kind is it??? We are in a country where freedom rules and one of the ways people express themselves is through the brand and level of vehicles they drive among other things. If one wants to ride a bicycle to go to the grocery store vs. driving a 40K++++ vehicle to get grocery....so what.....it is OK. As for why you get so pissed off to see a housewife or a Mr. MOM driving a 40K++++ vehicle to the grocery store or just to make sure Johnny gets to the soccer game.....I DON'T KNOW. But I have a lot of respect for housewives and Mr. MOM's.....I did not realize this until I had two babies back to back very close together. I work full time.....a lot of hours >90+ per week. My wife takes care of our two kids....believe me it is MORE THAN A FULL TIME JOB. You should not get pissed off simply because someone drives a 40K+++ vehicle just to get grocery or to take the kid to the game. Eversince my wife heard the pharse, "soccer MOM"........ my wife just simply does not want to drive a mini-van unless she has to. Let's face it......a 40K+++++ vehicle is not for everyone.....if it were for everyone....then we would not have KIA, Suzuki, and Geo SUV (just to name a few). These are great vehicles if it fits one's lifestyle and needs.......but they just don't drive the same as a 40K+++ SUV (this is a "want" issue). The 40K++ vehicle will drive very different vs a 60K++++ LX470. It is also true that a 60K+++ LX470 will drive even more different vs a 130K++++ Mercedes G class (NOT THE USUALL M CLASS SUV YOU SEE ALL OVER THAT IS MADE IN ALABAMA) SUV (G class is an EXTREMELY LIMITED PRODUCTION vehicle). WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU SEE A MERCEDES G CLASS SUV/WAGON pull up to a grocery store???? And Johnny jumps out to get some ice cream???? And the driver is a stay at home housewife who according to you "does not work"????!!!@$#%#$^ Again I have a lot of respect for housewives.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You should say housewives in fact work harder....not probably!!!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You just don't need a big SUV.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ah......what one wants and needs are two totally different issues. What appears to be one's wants does not always match another's needs. This is where the conflict is.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Or maybe I'm just an [non-permissible content removed]. You tell me.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
NO, you are not an [non-permissible content removed]. You just need to learn how to understand various people's needs and wants and also to learn that not everyone thinks the same way as you do when it comes to vehicle choices....Again when it comes to SUV alone....the market is flooded with many many different choices from KIA, Suzuki, and Geo all the way to the Mercedes G wagon. If one is happy with his/her choices and get a lot of use from the vehicle...then that person had made the right choice.
Enjoy & Happy motoring

Now back to our regularly scheduled program...
Anybody want to discuss the Sequoia?
There was a review of the Sequoia in this weeks Sunday Boston Globe. The review was very favorable, generally refering to the Sequoia as the new standard for full size SUV's (going from memory here). What was funny was that in the 'Pros and Cons' section the only 'con' they had was that dirt built up on the running boards and that snow and ice may build up as well.
I guess that's it. Recall city, I'm getting rid of mine. Anyone want a slightly used Sequoia with dirty running boards?
