I've noticed that PFs haven't been shown in local dealers ads recently and one local large dealer has gone from 6 or 8 on his lot to ZIP in the last week. Anyone know about new models, when, what, etc?
OK here is a compromise on tire pressure. Just an idea on the subject, not slamming anyone here!
IF 44 is max and 26 is the minimum and they both will wear out your tires faster, why not split the middle at 35psi and get the benefit of both? Seems like that would work well. My 40,000 mile tires on my 99 Silverado had 45,000 on them and could have gone a few thousand more by running 35psi. This is what these boards are for, I am glad to have everyone adding their points of view because it has helped me!
www.nissan-accessories.com lists the rear window deflector for $74.12 which includes shipping. I have called them for direct quotes before with good results and they only handle genuine nissan accessories. Hope this helps!
Does anybody know if Nissan is bringing back the Nissan Patrol full size (Land cruiser/Sequoia-type)SUV in that new Mississippi plant. The Patrol (which may still be built but no longer imported to US) was a jeep/land cruiser type industrial strength 4x4 sold here in the mid-60's. Since Nissan is building a big new plant for "full size pickups and an SUV" I wonder if it will be an full size V8 powered Pathfinder or a new badge entirely. Any thoughts on this?
Finally got them on the phone this morning. The rear wind deflector is $62.40 and ground shipping was $7.00 for a $69.40 total. Ground should be here within two days. Can't wait to install it and see if it helps!!!!

I have a new (used 1 week) Amsoil air filter for the 2001 pfinder and a new 8oz bottle of Amsoil filter oil for $35 including shipping. You can email me at jmtreetop@hotmail.com if interested. I just put on a cold air intake so can no longer use the Amsoil. It's amazing how much power difference there is after installing the cold air intake and taking out the large intake box....too bad it voids the warranty on the engine...oh well, it's japanese.
Who told you that it voided the warranty? It can only void the warranty if they can prove that the new intake was the cause of the problem. Just before I modified my intake box, I took it to the dealer and talked to them about it and they said that it was fine.
Looks like it just depends on who you talk to huh? The guy i talked to was kinda a dick about it and said i should put the stock air box on, yeah right, not after I've driven it without. Anyways, I talked to them about the hose that plugs into the stock air box and they didnt know what it does....do you? Anyways, i replaced it behind the k&n air filter and just put a little sealant around it. They also said my custom exhaust voided the warrany anyways. All I'm doing is allowing more air in...more air out. They said not to be surprised if the check engine light comes on. Since the computer adjusts for the added air flow, and my exhaust has LESS back pressure, dont think i have much to worry about. I took some pics of everything and will post them next week.
I read that review for the PF in Edmunds, and it mentions an "under-dash flip-down coin tray."
Where is this located? I have an SE with manual transmission. Maybe I don't have this feature? Can someone describe to me where this thing is in their vehicle?
jmtreetop, where did you get the cold air intake from? I have been trying to find this item for a long time with no success. Thanks in advance for the info. jambazi, the coin tray on the SE will be located right in front of your left knee as sanandton said. However you don't have an auto seat switch on the SE, it will be below the instrument brightness knob at the bottom of the dash on the left side of the steering wheel.
Yeah, they can be jerks about the warranty if you do any modifications. If you do have to have any warranty work done on your motor, they'll tell you that it's because of your modifications and that it's not covered. Tell them to prove it to you. Check their story with some people that know what they're talking about mechanically before you believe Nissan. I've never had to have any mechanical warranty work done on a Nissan with less than 75,000 miles (of course, it's not covered at that point).
Without actually looking at the tube you're talking about (I've never bothered to follow it back), I'd guess that it is the breather tube for the crank case (having something to do with the PCV valve...maybe indirectly). What you've done with the sealant should work fine, provided the seal holds.
I look forward to seeing your pictures and descriptions. I'm looking forward to upgrading my exhaust and I'm starting to look into different options.
Wow! How totally cool! I've been driving this car for over 2 months and 5600 miles, and I didn't even know that was there! To think, I've been putting my coins in the cup holder. I went back to the manual (which I did read cover-to-cover), and realized that I thought it was just the fuse box cover so I never opened it.
I actually used a cold air intake off of a buddies maxima. It fits perfectly but a little modification had to be done on the mounting plate (holes didnt line up exactly). I have also had zero success finding a cold air intake to purchase. Hopefully soon though.
To bad the coin tray isn't lined with felt to minimize the jiggling of coins...oh well, can't have everything. I've read that the new Pathfinder will not be out till mid-year 2003, this is according to http://freshalloy.com

During the earlier days, metal shavings in the engine are experienced for the first few thousand miles during what we refer to as the break in period. That is the reason why during those days it is always a good idea to change your oil earlier than the recommended interval
New engines built with better technologies do not experience metal shavings anymore and if any can be very minimal
I am not very technical on this so maybe someone who knows better can share their idea

Owners manual recommends an oil change every 3,750 or 3 months if you fall under the catagory of SEVERE driving conditions, 7,500 or 6 months for NORMAL driving conditions. Schedule 1 for severe conditions, Schedule 2 for normal driving conditions.
bimmer4me and jambazi: i have the qx4 so i don't know exactly what the dash of the pathfinder is like, but i have a removeable ash tray which is perfect for change. it's nice to be able to pull the tray out of the dash and pour the change into my hand rather than try and dig into it. but this is assuming you don't need the ash tray for ashes.
I left mine until the 6000 km (3750 mi.) change interval, BUT, be sure to check the level often. The vehicle seems to drink that 5W30 break-in oil like it was booze! I now use 10W30 Penzoil all year with no problems (even at -30 C).
I've been checking my oil on my 7 week old PF with 1200 miles on it. So far it's at the same level when purchased...slightly above full. At what milage did you notice the oil consumption during initial break in period? Just curious.
Just did my first oil change at 3900 miles (11 weeks) and it was...interesting. First off, couldn't find the L14610 filter...only the L14620 (equiv) which I got after trying several parts shops (inc Pep Boys). I used the Fram XG7317.
Then I had a little trouble finding the right drain plug...I didn't want to drain the diff and the pics weren't great. The owners manual pic was pretty poor...even the pic in the service manual wasn't great but I figured it out (stop laughing...really...I've always changed my oil but I'm not used to so many drain points!). It was a pleasure, however, to be able to get under the car and see everything without getting it up on blocks (with my Integra, a cat had trouble fitting under there).
Then...although I had bought a filter wrench that fit the new filter...the OEM filter 65F01 was too small. So I used the 'drive the screwdriver thru the filter and turn' method. A bit messy, but effective.
Can anyone tell me where the L14610 filter can be found?
I had ours changed at 500 miles just out of habit. I only do this because of excess metal that possible could be left in the motor from the factory. This is something that is much better than is used to be but old habits are hard to stop! We now have 15,000 miles and have changed the oil every 3000 miles. I have not noticed any oil leaks or the level being off.
What manufacture makes the Exhaust pips for the 2001 Pfs.?. And from what dealer did you buy yours from?. Please tell me more about your system. Thanks in advance. full5.
I don't want to turn this into an Altima board, but I watched the streaming video of the 2002 Altima introduction - very impressive. Unless Honda and Toyota make any drastic changes, the Altima will really stand out from the Accord and Camry. We have a 98 Altima(yes, we like our Nissans) and it has been a great car. This one appears to be even better. If this new design is any indication of their 'way of thinking' for the new Pathfinder(2003?), we should be in for a real treat. Sounds like Nissan is really starting to turn things around...

I noticed the level was down a full litre (actually a bit more) at around 3000 km - or 1875 old fashoned miles ;-). This was in the summer with highway driving in the mountains. It didn't use any more after that (I put in 10W30 to top it up). It doesn't leak any, though I do notice a very slow coolant leak (a few drops a month) from near the firewall I think. Got to check the heater hose clamps.
The driver's automatic seat mover is very handy, but what's the reliability of this mechanism moving back and forth everytime you get out of the car? Anyone had anyproblems with it yet? joe
I have only 300 miles on my 2001 Pathfinder. I will be taking a trip this weekend traveling on-stop for about 3 1/2 hours driving between 60-70 mph. Will this hurt my truck? A friend told me this might be a big mistake. Any comments would be appreciated.
If you must make that 300 mile trip with your new Pathfinder, my suggestion would be to vary your speed between 55 (maybe even 50 if you can) and 70 by 5 mph increments. You do not want to run at a constant RPM for long intervals. Change your speed every 10 minutes at most, and vary between the low end and the high end - meaning, do not start at 55, then 60 and so on. I know this is annoying, but it is the best way to seat the piston rings and not set a ridge on the cylinder walls.
I asked this question once, in a different form. I asked if using half 93 and half 89 would yield the equivalent of 91 (which is what Nissan recommends as minimum at lower elevations). The reason I asked was that I couldn't find 91 anywhere. I never got an answer.
Your approach is interesting, but actually...you will have an alternating 67/33 mix after the first few fill-ups (I checked in a spreadsheet). I don't know how you would get a 50/50 split, but you'd have to use small fill-ups. You could do it more easily by filling with half of each. Not that I think it's worth it to do this for a few pennies, just an exercise.
Has anyone with a newer Pathy gotten the FSM for it? The reason I ask is because I believe it will clear up the confusion (for some) about the require fuel. I would imagine that in that FSM it will only have the VQ35 motor in it. Then the gas requirement >should< be clearly stated in there.
Sorry, I couldn't resist, but seems every board here has the "What tire pressure should I use" and "What octane gas should I use" question. Seems like no one ever heard that the tire pressure specs are printed on the inside of every driver's door or glovebox. Sheesh.
