I saw your post at the performace/mod section. I was thinking about getting HKS exhaust system for my 99.5 PF. Here's the website for the exhaust, it list as 3.3L 96-99, but these would fit 99.5 model right? since they have basically same structure.

Thank you. I found out the best way to do it - shut off the engine, at least practise in this way.
  • phil47phil47 Member Posts: 394
Be careful. If it was supposed to fit the 99.5, they would have also listed it for the 2000 (which also had the VG33 engine). They don't list either.

There were a number of small modifications to the chassis and suspension with the 99.5/2000 model. These led to a few MINOR changes to the exhaust routing and hanger points. Although you could probably get this HKS system to fit eventually, it will probably require a few more hours of labour by a competant muffler shop (as was the case with the Stillen system I installed). Stillen stopped selling a catback for the 99.5/2000 because they didn't want to make the minor mods to get it to fit.

Ideally, see if this vendor allows you to return the item (you might have to pay S&H). Then you can test fit it and see if you like the results. Hope this helps.

I just bought my super black SE Pathfinder. My heart burns every time I see the swirl marks, dust and water spots on it. Should I polish the car? Someone told me I shouldn't do anything to a brand new car. I heard that Zaino Bros's products are excellent. Should I use its "pre-cleaner and gloss conditioner" before the polish? Anyone has a super black? Please advise me.
  • gkatz1gkatz1 Member Posts: 296
First of all we have a Black Infinity G20 and I hate it. Not the car, the paint. If you are picky you not going to be happy. That aside I have had good results with Mcquires clear coat scrub (very light compound) followed up by Mcquires Gold Class polish. The scrub really gets rid of the swirls and light scratches. Make sure you rub in strait lines. Also, very important, spray the paint thoroughly before touching it then use the softest sponge you can find. Paint needs @30 days to cure so check your manufacture date.

Can someone with the shop manual give me some information of how i can loosen the Mirror cap on my 01 PF? I bought a set of "nissan" rainvisors which call for "slipping the front end flange" under the mirror cap, but I can't seem to slip them under.

    Help is appreciated!

    Hi gkatz1
If I have to buy a Infinity, I will go for a black too. Infinity looks the best in this color. Does it hurt the car if I SCRUB it? So part of the clear coat will be scrubbed away. Is it possible to put something on the top of coat to protect it?
  • gkatz1gkatz1 Member Posts: 296
It is called a scrub but it is very nonabrasive. Just enough to remove swirls. Use the Gold Class after for protection and shine.
  • lofquistlofquist Member Posts: 281
    omega11,
I assume that you mean you need to loosen the mirror where it attaches to the door? The shop manual shows there are bolts holding it on (one or three - I can't tell). You need to remove the plastic cover on the inside - it's held on by a plug and two pawls. The manual says you may have to remove the whole inside door panel first.

I hope this is what you are looking for. I can't go out to check my Path because my wife always gets it!

I'd recommend using Zaino products. They're probably the best out there for hiding swirls and spiders without damage to the finish and without a buffer. I've used Zaino for over a year now and won't go back to other products, even Meguiars. You can read the whole process at www.zainobros.com and even see some photos.

The stuff seems expensive at first, but when you see how many uses you get from a bottle and then see the results, it's worth it. I'd recommend for your first application using the clay bar, then applying the prelok and finally 2 coats of Z5. It takes Zaino longer to dry before removing it, and you should wait 24 hours between coats, but i've done 2 coats on a cool dry day before without any hassle. I usually add another coat of Z5 every 3-4 weeks. A guy i know with a Black Ford SuperDuty got me onto this stuff. His truck's a '00 with absolutely no swirls or spiders whatsoever. He uses it off-road alot and tows his race car to the track every weekend, so it's been through some rough stuff. It still looks showroom new. I used it on my red CL-S and it really helped to mirror the finish and hide the swirls it had from the dealer.

    Hope this helps.

Can I use Zaino outdoor? I don' have a garage, I can only go to car wash and clay bar/Z5/Z2 the car right there. Is it possible to wash the car and do just one coat at the car wash, then drive back home and do the second coat??
  • omega11omega11 Member Posts: 36
    Thanks for your help Jon!
  • sabre66sabre66 Member Posts: 45
It's best to do it in the shade if possible. Since you don't have a car wash or garage nearby, here's what i'd suggest:

    1. Go to the car wash and wash the car with Dawn dishwashing detergent (this will remove any other waxes or polishes) then dry the car.
    2. Drive home or somewhere nearby and find a place in the shade. (If you can't find any shade it's not the end of the world, but it may make the polish adhesion a little less effective, thereby requiring a second coat of Z1 and Z5 to completely cover the surface.)
3a. Use Z6 (gloss enhancer) to get some of the dust and debris off the truck that got picked up on the ride home. Make sure to wipe it dry.
    ...OR...
3b. Use Z6 with the Z18 clay bar to remove all impurities from the finish of the truck. (for a black Path, i'd recommend the clay bar)
    4. Coat the truck with a thin coat of Z1 (pre-lok). By the time you finish coating the entire truck it should be ready to begin with the polish.
    5. Put the Z5 (swirl remover) directly over the Z1 (pre-lok). Allow it to dry for 1.5 to 2 hours (you can check it by wiping your finger on a small spot on the hood. If it comes off the truck leaving no residue in that spot, then its ready to wipe off. If it streaks or looks smeared it needs more drying time).
*If it's a hot, humid day drying time will increase tremendously.
    6. Wipe off the Z5 completely.
    7. Zaino recommends going over the truck with Z6 (gloss enhancer) at the end to catch any missed polish and to add shine to the vehicle.

Now if you want to add a second coat of Z5 or a first coat of Z2, Zaino recommends waiting at least 24 hrs. Personally i've re-coated in as little as 6-12 hrs (on a cool, dry day) with no problems.

Now since your truck is black and you mentioned that you wash it at the local car wash (hopefully not with the foamy brush that's there), you probably have more swirls and scratches than normal. So don't expect one coat of Z5 to make them disappear. One coat will make it shiney and glossy, but it will take 5-6 coats to show marked improvement in swirls and scratches. Good thing is once you've gotten a handle on them they're easier to keep under control.

Hope this helps. If you need more info just repost or check the FAQs section of the Zaino website.

I never car-wash my Pathfinder since it is only 5-day old. I will totally wash/polish it after the dealer fix the side molding and put the liscence plate on. Here are my questions:
    1. How do I wash the car with Dawn? sponge? brush? I never wash a car like this before.
    2. Are you supposed to drive your car between coats? It could be 24 hours. I think I would drive home and wait for a while to do the second coat. And use Z-6 to remove the dust between coats.
    3. Should I polish the roof? It is impossible though.
    4. What is the color of your Pathfinder? It should be easier for any other colors.
  • sabre66sabre66 Member Posts: 45
    1. Well like using any kind of car wash product, you'd want to use a towel/rag that won't hold the dirt and debris that can scratch the finish. A car wash sponge or a soft cloth towel will work fine, just spray it off between sections to get the dirt/grime off. The Dawn is used to strip any existing wax (from the dealer or other brands applied by owner) and any chemical coatings sprayed on for delivery to the dealership (before shipping from the plant to the dealerships and before loading onto the trucks, some factories spray a coating on the vehicles to keep the road grime build up low and for UV protection.)
2.You can certainly drive your car between coats. I apologize if i made it sound like you had to get all these coats on before using your vehicle. Once you have the pre-lok and first coat of Z5 or Z2 on you can do whatever you'd normally do. If you don't drive too much between the initial coat and the second coat, just use the gloss enhancer to clean off any dust then add the second coat (you don't need to use the pre-lok again unless you think you may have missed some spots). If you have to drive alot between coats or if it rains during that time, just wash your car with normal car wash (not Dawn, that's only prior to first coat) or Zaino Car Wash and then apply the second coat of Z5 or Z2. *Basically the Zaino Gloss Enhancer is similar to MeGuiar's Quik Detailer. It can be used between washes to keep the truck clean and shiny and to remove light dust build-up without hurting the finish. I have both products and use them interchangably.
    3. I'd polish the roof too. That way you reduce chance of damage to the finish by bird and tree droppings. It's kinda hard to reach unless you have the sidesteps or a ladder.
    4. My Pathfinder LE is Aspen White Pearlglow. It's easy to keep shiny because it's pearlescent, and yes white doesn't show the flaws as easily as dark colors. But believe when it's even slightly dusty/dirty and then poished there's a huge difference. You unfortunately picked the hardest color to keep looking showroom new, but black is also one of the best looking colors when clean.

Remember it only takes a light coat of any Zaino product for the stuff to work and it should come off very easily too. The lighter the coats, the faster it dries and easier it comes off, which will allow you to put on more coats in a shorter period of time. I usaully add a fresh coat of Z5 or Z2 every other weekend (weather and my fiance permitting).

Hope this answers your questions. As i mentioned check out www.zainobros.com and their FAQs section for more detailed info and an order form or use the link above provided by Steve. I usually takes about 6-7 days to get your order once they receive your check or money order.

Just wanted to ask if anybody has noticed anything strange with their security system?

    Here's some things i've noticed:
    1. The doors locking when your outside the car with the key left in the ignition (not running). It happened once in the garage when i needed to get something out of the back. I got in and put the key in the ignition, then remembered my CDs were in the back so i left the keys in the ignition and shut the driver's door, opened/shut the trunk lid, and the driver door was now locked.

    2. The light not turning solid red once you've set the alarm, with the sunroof open (is this normal operation when the roof is open?).

    3. Unlocking the car using to clicks of the fob, opening the passenger door, closing the passenger door, walking to back and opening the glass, then walking to drivers door to find it locked. What's that about? Don't all doors unlock when you hit the fob twice and since you've opened doors shouldn't all the doors remain unlocked until the fob is clicked again?

I know the system has an auto re-lock/reset if after a certain time period elapses and no doors are opened, but mine seems to do this even if a door has been opened and then shut (excluding the driver's door).

Just thought i'd ask to see if i'm losing my mind or if it's the system. The owner's manual doesn't give much feedback on the quirks with the system.

    Thanks,
    S-66

I've never experianced any of those problems. I don't seem to know that there is an auto relock, or I don't have that installed. I leave my truck unlocked overnight every night and it doesn't relock itself. I try never to leave the keys in the ignition, even at gas fill ups, since I worry about hitting the auto lock on the door. I'll test it this weekend, though, to be sure.

Would you like to come out and wax my truck for me?
  • tailwindtailwind Member Posts: 5
For your 3rd problem, when you use the key to open the hatch glass window, it will lock all the doors.

I'm seriously considering purchasing a 2001 LE, which is loaded except for NAV and DVD entertainment system. I can purchase it for $30,600, after the $1500 rebate. This seems like a good deal. However, I am a little hesitant because it is near the end of its model run. Meaning, that this Pathfinder body has been around since 1996 and I hear that a major redesign is coming. Does anyone know what model year will be redesigned. At first I heard 2003, but now I hear 2004. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I hear the next Pathfinder will be larger. Thanks.

    Hi, all~

What a great site... I've spent the weekend reading through many of these posts, and am very appreciative of the many insights shared here.

I put down a deposit on a loaded LE yesterday -- just waiting for them to locate my color choice (black) with ENT. I should be able to take delivery within a few days. (Can't wait to unload my Grand Crap...er, Cherokee Larado -- thought I was going to have to pay *them* on the trade-in :-P)

Couple of questions for you all ... is the extra undercoating ($259) worth getting? Typically, I dismiss this kind of "extra" as pure profit for the dealer with little value, but living in the northeast (CT), I was wondering if this would be worthwhile in light of all the sand, salt, etc. What do you think?

Also, I tend to keep my cars awhile (currently have a '94 GCL); I didn't purchase the extended warranty then (big mistake in hindsight given its track record), but I'm not sure I need it with the PF. (Another $1200) Any thoughts?

Overall, I think I got a good deal, but of course, I've been second-guessing myself... it was too easy (which tells me they probably could have come down some more.) Fully loaded leather LE with everything but NAV and tow hitch for $32,000 - about $600 below what Edmunds shows as invoice. The only extra I got them to throw in was a VIP Service Package...

    TIA for any opinions.

Had a 93 Explorer (good size, well finished, reliable, but ride was awful), 96 Tahoe (liked it but typical GM way-behind-the-curve design and the worst brakes I've ever had), 98 Expedition (loved it but hated the 11mpg), and currently a Toyota Sienna (trying to be PC...lol...hate it... it's a car made for people who just wanna get from A to B without much fuss and I think Toyota is way over-rated). I gotta get outta this thing ASAP. What to buy?
Suburban (to big), Tahoe (better size but always concerned with GM quality), Expedition (I could do that again but it's a little big, a little tall, and I hate that worse than bad gas milage), new Explorer (maybe, but I've not driven one yet.....perfect size, but a little afraid of first year Fords not to mention their run of bad luck with safety issues), Lexus (big one too $ and RX300 feels very, very small), Jeep GC (smallish and reliability is questionable), Toyota (don't think I'm going there again....Highlander may be nice on paper but that is one ugly vehicle and if it's as boring as my Sienna....no thanks...Sequoia, they're wrestling in the car lot over these things and it's probably another high dollar low value Toyota product). Nothing else is on my list but the Pathfinder.
Impressions.....GOOD POINTS...seems like you get lotsa stuff for your money(Bose, big engine, sunroof, leather, etc), and reliability is way up there according to Consumer Reports. NEUTRAL POINTS...a little generic looking although certainly not ugly, ride is subjective but I find it a little stiff, and I found it neither loud nor quiet. NEGATIVE POINTS ....it looks big enough on paper but feels smallish inside which would be OK but MPG numbers (16/19) are little better than a Tahoe/Suburban (14/18). Why not have a great big SUV?
I buy SUV's because I have to have the space for my work. I can't get passed the Pathfinder feeling small whatever the specs say which is the worst of both worlds....poor milage and no space. Otherwise I'd buy it PDQ. Any thoughts?

    dreaross,
Skip the undercoating. The vehicle doesn't need it and the undercoating can actually hold water up against the frame later on when it gets hard and starts to crack. I'd also skip the $1200 extended warranty. That's a lot and the Path has a good factory warranty. But you didn't say how long it would be for after the factory one ends.

The ENT system is nice, but if you can live without it you can get the same LE in Toronto for about $6000 less! And you're not far away at all. I'm sure if you had time to read all these posts you've seen me promoting going to Canada to get a great deal. I did a little summary at post #2610 (but prices are a lot lower now because of rebates and better exchange rate), and there are lots of comments since then. I'm happy to show anyone how to do this. I know over 50 people who've done it since I did.

Engle3, i think all Pathfinders with the keyless entry/security system have the autolock feature. If you unlock the truck with the key fob, but don't open any doors it will relock itself in about 30 seconds. I could be wrong about XE and SE systems though. It's been known to happen.

If you live in the tri-state area (MD, DC, VA) i'd be happy to help you wax your truck. I can handle a short road trip, but since mine's a lease i'd like to keep the miles in check (hope you understand). Or if you'd like to road trip this way, i'd let you use my garage for the day.

Tailwind, thanks for the info on the lift-glass question. I'm not certain why it locks the doors though? I guess Nissan figures if you're getting into the back you've reached your destination and are leaving the truck for a while, so it locks it up.

    Thanks again,
    S-66
  • engle3engle3 Member Posts: 12
Oh, I didn't know that about the autolock. I'm glad to know it now. Thanks.
I'm way over here on the other coast so I decided I had to wax it myself. Until I get around to buying the Zaino products, I will just use the Maguires stuff I have.(I hope you aren't rolling your eyes) I put a coat of the carnuba wax on the hood this weekend and it looks nice, but I would love to get that bright, shiny look you Zaino users talk about. I've got a Sahara Tan LE, and have put 8,000 miles on it in three and a half months. I love the truck! :)
dardson1: I have about 4 friends with new Yukons, and 2 with Tahoes. There must be some sort of deal going on out there. The Pathfinder fits me perfectly, but it could be a bit small for some folks. I also get better than advertised gas milage since I drive like a little old lady. :-P
  • lspanglerlspangler Member Posts: 102
I've had my Pathfinder for about 10 months and find I am driving way to many miles for the lease. Does anybody know how much it costs to break the lease? I've also found the PF to be to small for me. I'm now looking into a full size truck.

I got out of a lease on a 2000 VW Jetta that I had. First thing to do is call your leasing company whether it's Nissan or a bank to find out your payoff. Also, note that depending on what state you live in you probably have sales tax due based on the payoff. If you trade is in you can help reduce the tax liability off the vehicle your purchasing. In the case with my Jetta, I sold it after leasing for a year. I had to purchase the vehicle form VW leasing, put it in my name, pay remaining sales tax, then sell and transfer everything to the new owner. Major pain in the [non-permissible content removed] and expensive, I had to pay about $1200 in taxes on top of the buyout.

    Good luck
  • looking25looking25 Member Posts: 19
I noticed this too, but can't pin-point when it actually happens. I'll get out of the pathfinder and try to get back in and everything will be locked - without pushing anything on the keyfob. My major complaint is I have to hit the unlock button about a gazillion times to get the doors to unlock (ok, more like 5 .. but still) .. it just seems sluggish/unresponsive. The keyfob needs to have the buttons indented also .. I put the keys in my pocket and lean against the car to get the kid out of the car seat and I end up accidently hitting the lock button - unrelated to the first occurance I was talking about. Other than that, I love this vehicle!
  • sabre66sabre66 Member Posts: 45
I'm not sure how long you have left on your Pathfinder lease (whether it was a 36, 39 or 48 month lease), but you can always sell it as dieselone stated. If the trucks in good shape you may make more than the payoff from it, and be able to cover any added taxes. Your other option is to take it to the dealer where you want to buy a full-size truck and see what kind of deal they'll give you on it. If they know it's a lease they may be able to payoff existing taxes, early termination fees on the Pathfinder, but not give you a break on the new truck (i.e. you pay sticker). At least this way you're in a vehicle you want more.

If you can handle driving the Path another 2+ years you can also negotiate the buyout price when the lease ends. Most manufacturers don't want cars with lots of miles back at lease end, so they will take a reasonable offer to buyout the lease. You may be able to save several hundred or even thousands if you're good at negotiating.

    Just some thoughts,

I think your analysis is on target. The PF LE is very nice, but it is a little too small inside. The tradeoff for small size does not translate into higher MPG. In fact, since many large domestic SUVs run on regular fuel, their having slightly lower MPG means nothing. You probably will send less on gas with a large domestic SUV compared to the PF because the PF requires premium fuel. Have you considered the Acura MDX? Also, rumors indicate that the next redesign of the PF will be larger, but that's a couple of years off. I say for the money, the 2001 PF LE is a nice deal, although it's not perfect. Moral of the story is that the perfect SUV does not exist. The Acura MDX is probably closest, then I would say the PF or Infinite is second. Good luck.

The Motor Trend 2002/2003 New Car issue has an add and picture for the PF Navigation System.

Below the radio, there is the AWD Selector, the bun warmer switches and then a switch labelled Aux On/Off - what is this?

    Thank you ...

    dardson1,

If you can get past the smaller interior, I would definately go the Nissan route. As much as I want to believe the "US autos are as well made" I still see a difference in fit and finish. Our '01 5-spd is markedly quieter and more solid than a co-workers '00 Grand Cherokee.

The 5-speed was the other BIG selling point for me. Plain and simple-I love to row thru gears! A 5-spd in traffic really isn't as bad as many make it to be, and I'd rather have the control that the manual tranny provides.

On a side note, I'm getting new rubber put on tomorrow. After 32,000 miles, the OEM Bridgestone Duelers are almost done.(not impressed at all!) I could probably get another 3,000 out of them, but we're headed to Utah in a week and a half, and I want new rubber for the back-country (Canyonlands).

I will try and post pics tomorrow eve. of the new tires.
  • dardson1dardson1 Member Posts: 696
thanks for the responses.....reinforces my gut feeling there is no perfect SUV. What I want is the room of a Suburban, the milage of a Highlander, and the fun-to-drive of a Pathfinder....lol
  • jeepluvjeepluv Member Posts: 37
I agree, the Pathy (actually I have a QX4) feels a little smaller than my old Jeep GC, but the cargo area is actually a LOT bigger (seems to hold more than you would think) and drives much better. You'll just have to decide what's more important, enormous cargo volume but poor mileage and driving characteristics of a big rig, or a good balance with the PF. I'd recommend trying the QX4, the ride seems a tad bit softer and quieter. The PF is a great vehicle, though, and the MDX was our 2nd choice. Good luck.
  • lspanglerlspangler Member Posts: 102
What you've guys said about the mileage and gas prices is true. My last vehicle, a '96 full size chevy pick up with a V-8 got better mileage and ran on 87 octane. It seemed more expensive to fill up because it held 34 gallons but it went forever on a tank of gas. I leased the PF because I wanted something different, it's a very nice vehicle, just not the best match for me.

    Thanks for answering my questions.

    Jon,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll skip the undercoating... The extended warranty (for $1200) is for 7 yrs/100,000 miles. It's hard to think that far out, and to know whether I'll still have this vehicle then... but I've had the GJC for 7.5 already (where did the time go?)

As much as I'd love to go the Canada route, I don't have the luxury of time to pursue that, even with the attractive savings potential. The GJC is living on borrowed time as it is. I've got about two weeks left on the front brakes (just replaced them last June... replaced the rear about a month ago -- the brakes have been my biggest complaint about the Jeep -- replacing them is an annual affair :-P) There's some major leakage going on (and no one can seem to identify the culprit), there's a crack in crank case, and other problems too numerous to mention. The sooner I get rid of it, the safer I'll be. (Estimate to get it up to par was about $4000 -- definitely not worth it.) But thanks for the suggestion. Maybe next time :-) (We'll be getting a 2nd vehicle next year, that may be the route to go for that one!)

You might find these numbers useful in your negotiations:

My best friend's wife bought a 2001 2WD LE very similar to the one you are considering in 02/01. She lives in the Baton Rouge Louisiana area and paid exactly $27,600 before TTL. Her LE has leather, sunroof, tow hitch, micro and mats. It lacks navigation and entertainment. If memory serves me, the MSRP was just over $32K and she got 14% off of this MSRP.

I bought an SE in 07/01 and was only able to get about 13% off of MSRP despite persistent negotiations. My SE is not nearly as nice on the inside as her LE. The dealer tempted me with a 10 year, 100K mile extended warranty for about $650, but I declined.

    Hope you can use this.

"Below the radio, there is the AWD Selector, the bun warmer switches and then a switch labelled Aux On/Off - what is this?"

Do we dare to hope that you can actually leave the aux power sources on when the car is off?! That's one of the biggest complaints I have on my 2000 PF - I don't drive every day and the cell phone is almost always dead when I go somewhere. Although I'll not buy another PF (unless there's a bigger one in the works), this would be a much needed feature!

    dreaross,
I can relate to the lack of time thing. Anyone want to help me get all my summer projects done before the snow flies (there was frost on the ground this morning)? You will love the Path as compared to the JGC. And your cardboard expenses (for catching the leaks) will vanish :-)

But that does bring up a question that I get asked a lot: How long does it take to buy a car from Canada? Really only a couple days. I know one person who called the dealer on Wed and picked up the Path on Friday. A lot of people tell me they've flown or driven up on Fri afternoon/evening and then drive home on Saturday. Once you make a deal, the paperwork and money conversion shouldn't take that much time.

Hope this isn't old news. Just dropped into the dealer, and he had 2002s (looked at an SE in the showroom). The audio system is different (including the controls on the steering wheel). Looks like the SE gets the 2001 LE wheels, different "nurf" bars (more like running boards - kinda nice - big and oval with larger foot pads). The LE gets the QX4 17" wheels. Other than that, just very minor differences as far as I could tell. Oh yeah, the prices have also taken a large jump. The SE in the showroom was priced the same as my 2001 LE ($44,350 or so).

Not sure what others are complaining about. Just got back from a trip to the coast (1350 km each way). Was getting around 12 l/100 km, and was cruising at supra legal speeds of around 120 km/hr. I use the Mohawk premium gas with 10% ethanol - vehicle runs very well on this stuff. For reference, this is what the Subaru Outback gets. Not bad for a vehicle that weighs almost two metric tonnes. BTW, the company 1997 Suburban with 350 engine and auto trans. burns around 20 l/100km. Not even close!
Only one complaint - this SUV corners hard enough to cause gear inside to slide around a lot! Finally had to stop and strap everything down with several of those bungee "nets" - it was driving me crazy ;-)

Driving at night in pretty thick stuff I wasn't too impressed with the stock fog light set up. Is there a quick fix to enhancing the performance of the fog lights? Higher wattage bulbs, different colors? Anyone with this same problem out there?

I've had the same beef about my 2000. When I saw the picture, I had the same thought as you - the option to keep accessory plugs powered! I have the same issue with my cell phone ...

Hey ER2V... I replaced my fog light bulbs w/ Philips Allweather bulbs. I also replaced the headlight bulbs w/ Philips BlueVision bulbs & have been very happy w/ both.

    Here's how to do for a 2001:
    1) Get in car and close all doors.
    2) Insert and remove key from ignition more than 6 times within 10 seconds (hazard lights will flash twice).
    3) Insert key again and turn to ACC position
    4) Push any button on new remote once (hazard lights will flash twice). At this time the oldest code is erased and the new code is entered.
    5) To program additional remotes (maximum of four), lock the driver's side door (unlock first if it's locked) with the LH door switch, and then go to step 4.,
    6) Open driver's side door.

    thanks Jon,
these are the same instructions I followed, but with no luck. Perhaps the receiver control module on the vehicle is broken (?) - I guess I'll have to break down and visit the dealer.

"Below the radio, there is the AWD Selector, the bun warmer switches and then a switch labelled Aux On/Off - what is this?"

Sorry about this, but the Aux On/Off switch only switches the stereo to receive output from the VCR (or DVD) that is part of the optional video entertainment system. When the Aux switch is on the stereo plays the sound from the entertainment system. When the switch is off the stereo operates normally. Strange that the switch function wasn't built into the head unit. Had to read the entertainment system manual to figure it out. The switch was also on the 2001 LE with the entertainment system option.

    Hey all,

I got the new tires put on this a.m.

I tried to fit 267/75-16's but they were a little too close to the struts for comfort.

I ended up getting 265/70-16's, and they fit very nicely. They don't rub at all on-road, but we'll find out if they bump a bit next week.
Initial estimates are that it's about 3/4 inches taller than last night. There is deffinatly more tire. I'll know for sure tonight. I will also find out on my run home what the speedo accuracy is at now. It was reading 2.2 mph slow.

    here are some pics.
