I've been away from this board for about 6 months. We still love our ML320,
but I need some help on one of the rattles that has developed. About 1 year
ago, I remember seeing something about a hard to find rattle at the base of
the windshield. Can anyone point me to the forum "Part" and message that
dealt with this?
Thanks!
John Feng
P.S. I has been great having the ML what with all the snow and ice we've had
here in the midwest. Much better than my poor old 540i sport!!
2001 ML55 Designo Edition with 200 miles
(less than 1 week old!)
It has the Cognac designo option. This is extremely rare. You will never see another ML on the road in this color. In addition to the special
color, it also includes special two-toned leather seats, steering wheel, birds-eye poplar wood dash and leather lined floor mats. I am
selling it for MSRP $70,545 and I am firm on the price. I bought this while I was waiting for my CL600 to come in. It was supposed to be
an 18 month wait, but I got the car earlier than expected and must sell the ML55.

I assume your rattle/creaking is coming from the passenger side A-pillar/windshield meet dash board area? My ML also coincidentally developed this problem (mainly only when travelling on rough/uneven surfaces) just a day after someone else posted here that he was having that very same issue. In my area, we were having some fairly cold weather at the time, and I suspect that may have incuded the creaking.
The fix that I used (read here in Townhall many moons ago) was to get my trusty can of silicon spray (obviously the more silicon content and the less amount of harsh chemicals the better) and blast some of the stuff in and around the base of the windshield where it meets the dashboard, as well as the where the base of the A-pillar meets the dash. I did use a fair amount of it, but was careful not to overdo it and not to spray it all over the dashboard (use a piece of cloth for protection). The squeaking did not immediately disappear, but it was muted. Over the next couple of days, it gradually disappeared into oblivion :-)
Good luck John! I hope this helps!

SilverStar, uses only MB as loaners, last time I had a really nice C class. One guy I saw, had the 200 series in for service and got a S500 as loaner. In the event they are all out they rent you a car( however one time I had enterprise and had to get picked up, the car was high miles and smelly(Yuck). If I had to leave my ML for that again, I will come back. Now I understand they use other rentals as backup.

I just looked outside my window and was utterly SHOCKED to see that the entire street was covered with the white stuff! It is really coming down up here and sticking! Vancouver was not expecting any snow at all...just rain (outside temperature according to my probe is 1.6 degree C). Argh...and my ML is going in for servicing tomorrow. Well, I'll have some fun in the snow before I leave :-)

Try Meguiars No. 7 Show car Glaze and swirl remover prior to a top coat of carnauba three times a year.
Swirl-be-gone; and the finish will be well protected.
This is my third winter of 100+ inch snowfalls with an equal amount of road salt and the dark green still is as brilliant as when new.
Good luck in the spring.

255/65R16 seems to be a difficult size. I can get 255/70R16 in a Michelin Cross Terrain or a 275/70R16 in a Michelin LTX M/S.
Are these 70 sizes okay for ML320?
TIA, Jeff
Check to see if the plastic at the base of the seat has gotten loose. Someone reported that leaning on the corner getting in and out caused this.
Yep...should be a warrantee item.
Just take a look at these images.

Not trying to be disrespectful Bonnie because I certainly care much more about you than your misinformed sales person. But, we did our job here as a forum to educate you prior. You made the decision not to peruse the "Sports Package." We even told you that the dealer would not have any legal means to force you to purchase your current vehicle and that they should be glad to make the additional sale of the "Sport Package."
Once again, I know the tone of this post sounds harsh and I don't mean it to. It is just that I took a lot of time and effort to make clear to you that there was a "Sport Package" and I rather not spend this time if people don't want to listen.
I also had something called "brake quiet service" to eliminate a squeal from all four wheels. It only came to the dealer from Mercedes in the last week as a fix to this problem. I dont know exactly what they did (my husband picked the car up and didnt think to ask). Problem is much improved but not eliminated.
Maybe some of you could help me? I have tried everything. It is coming from the 40%, however closer to the middle seat. I know this because when I put a heavy object on the 40% seat the rattle goes away. The weight doesn't have to be a person, so it is not the seat belt. I have tried all of your fixes of trying to drive with the seat forward and down, none seemed to fix it except when there is weight on it. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jamie

not even a drop.... otherwise gas guage will mess up. Is it really true? or as serious as this dealer made it sound? What if I forget to tell that to gas attendant?
anyways, yeah Rob, I'm 23 and I think I look that age
Overall, I think this dealership treats customers pretty well. Even though I am a younger MB customer, they don't seem to discriminate. Well, maybe cuz I'm such a nice friendly customer to begin with.
Here at DTLA, they loan out MB C claasses first. Not the 2001s !, then once they are out of those, they have random cars like a mercury sable, explorer, jeep c, and I even saw a new montero. I guess there is quite a lot of choice when they run out of MBs to give out. They loan to us customers thru Enterprise.

Just last week, a friend and I slammed our respective doors on my ML at the same time.
The ML is to tightly sealed, air was pushed out and one door didn't close

Now, with my low beams and fogs turned on at the same time, one can really see how the Optilux bulbs are whiter than stock bulbs.
Once I get back the charger for the cybershot, I'll take some new pics ...left the damn charger in HKG.
I'm thinking of going for the yellow fogs bulbs on my external fogs maybe ? hmm..kinda going for the Lexus GS look ...wat u guys think ? any recommendations on bulbs ?

5 minutes later. returned the bulbs

I have confirmed this. WHen I fill up my ML at the gas station, after a few seconds, the ML automatically LOCKS all doors.
It has happened a few times, but I always thought I pressed the lock button on the remote by accident. This time, I was filling her up, held the remote in my hand and waited. BOOM, while gas was poring into the tank, the doors locked automatically.
Um, wat if you left the keys in the ML ? won't u get locket out ? hmmmm...any similar experiences ?
dt77
nice work haha..when u put the pic side by side with the ML55, waddya know!

WRT the auto locking, that was my biggest concern, and the reason why I didn't have auto locking enabled for about a year. I decided to take a chance a couple of months or so ago, and it seems to be fine so far. I just leave a window sufficiently lowered if I do use the self-serve station :-) When the doors automatically lock, do the blinkers flash 3 times? If not, then obviously you are not pressing the button accidentally. If so, I'd try the other key fob to see if there's a problem with your current one.
Yes, there does seem to be an automatic power cut off for the interior lamps. I left a rear door open overnight, and the lights for the rear passengers were off (despite the door being opened) when I came down the next morning. Battery was just fine, and the lights came back on when I slammed that door shut. The '01s have a switch to deactivate the rear lamps manually.

My dealership does that too. I was not too happy when they wanted to give me a rental car today. I waited 2 weeks specifically because I was promised a MB loaner. W/O a MB loaner, I could've gone in for Service A within a few days of booking the apointment. They finally did locate the loaner (parked at the other side of the building).
It's an Azure Blue/Charcoal '01 ML320 Elegance with about 1900 kms on the odometer. I've spent about 3 hours (not consecutive) driving the vehicle so far and have found the experience enlightening. It has certainly been the most amount of time that I've spent in a '01. I've found that it is actually a little bit noiser (!!) than my '00 at about 60mph. The noise is just a slight engine drone that I think will disappear when the engine breaks in further; it does feel very tight still due to its low kms.
The variable assist steering wheel is nice. The wheel is considerably easier to turn at low speeds. I can do it almost with just one hand when repositioning the vehicle in a parking stall, whereas two hands are needed to crank the wheel with the '00. I did find the steering wheel a tad overboosted at around town speeds though (about 45-65 km/hr), as well as at highway speeds. Small matter though, and I think new owners will not complain at all.
For those of you Canadian owners out there, all '01 MLs have had the MCS screen brightness design flaw resolved. When the DRLs are activated, the screen does not dim any longer. One has to switch on the headlamps manually (not just the side markers - position 1 on the switch) for the MCS screen to dim. I have requested the MCS brightness fix to be employed for my vehicle, but I'm not sure if they're going to do it since it's not an officially recognised fix. These corporate owned stores are sometimes not very flexible. Grrr...
Other small changes that I noted include a rear wiper switch that is now a toggle switch (press once to on, press another time to off) with an LED vs. the rocker type switch that the previous models have had. The infrared rain sensor doesn't seem to be as sensitive on this vehicle as the one on the MB cars that I've driven. If there is no road spray, but simply water droplets, a significant amount of it has to accumulate on the windshield before the wipers sweep. While driving on the highway at 100 km/hr, I did have to turn on the wipers manually several times (no cars in front of me in the HOV lane at that time, hence no road spray). For some strange reason, these wipers did not have the huge spoilers that mine do so they look somewhat punier.

Price for 1 4L bottle of Mobil 1 15W50 was just under CDN$27. Two bottles are required. This price was in contrast to the CDN$12 per litre (!!) that the dealership's parts department quoted. $96 for oil alone? I don't think so...
I think it is also the laid back nature of the west coast... advantages of being out west. Unfortuntly I may be moving the other way. . .
Robert
Mine has never done that and I keep the fob w/ me because it has the Mobil Speedpass on it.
It sounds like you might have Ticking mode on (it autolocks if you close the door and then blinks the lights once in a while to show you it autolocked; the blinking is the weirdest feature I've heard of).

With Thor3's hot link, I completed my order last night.
What a great family we have here!
Depending on internet connections, I may be off the list for two weeks.
What ever happened to our family sticker ID, I'll be looking for members in Post Falls, Idaho and then Downtown Chicago!

I guess I'll have to go with something other than Michelin, because they don't have any 255/65s available _at all!_.
hope not...and before you can get your switch activated you should have a fog lights on your grill or below bumper for alibi.. that you are not going to use your foglights in the housing, then once they activated your switch you can install your H3 bulb, they are in the same circuit. If you are afraid you are over loading your fuse..run a separate switch. H3 can control by dash switch and the grill fog run by another switch.Thats what I did..
Thanks
Dave
