Does that mean your class action lawsuit is on hold?

my fog lights only work when the headlights are on, the owners manual says they should also work with parking lights. has anyone else had this problem or have the solution? I have not had a chance to ask my dealer yet.

http://www.mazdausa.com shows the new 2.3L 4cyl engine getting 24 MPG city / 28 MPG highway in the Mazda B2300 pickup.

Anyone know if/when this engine comes to the Tribute?

  • omnibudomnibud Member Posts: 24
this was brought up a while ago, i believe the manual is incorrect and the fog lights are wired with the headlights. some resourceful individual was going to wire the fog lights to a separate switch so they could use them as they pleased. in some states it is illeagle to drive with just fog/parking lights, may be why the tribute is wired as such.....

Either 2002 or 2003...I don't remeber where I read it but if you go to www.blueovalnews.com , you can read to your hearts content.

Has anyone used their Tribute to haul building materials (sheets 4'x8') and were satisfied in this regard. I have very few NEEDS that require a 'ute, but the occasional sheet is one at the top! Mazda says they fit while hanging out the open glass, but I want to be sure.

I know this info is late, hope it finds you . . .

As to your post of the Mazda dealer removing stickers form the windows, yes it appears to be illegal as it is in violation of the Federal Automobile Disclosure Act.

Can the Tribute really tow up to 3,500 lbs. and how easily? I have a 20 ft. ski boat to tow, but am interested in the Tribute.

I would appreciate anyone letting me know what kind of gas mileage you are getting with a 4 cylinder, 2 wheel drive Tribute or Escape. Thanks.

I live in New England area. I really would like a Tribute over the CRV (for obvious reasons). HOWEVER...When I bought my Ranger XLT Sport in August 99 (brand new), I paid $3000 below the $17,000 sticker price. When I bought my wife's 00 Accord SE in August 00, I paid over $4000 below the $22,000 sticker price. At the time both vehicles were in normal demand, and the Accord was only 1 of 2 SE's they had left (they had been selling at invoice price prior). I just bargained hard, had cash in hand, and got a good deal.
Anyone from the NE area buy a Tribute for a steal? If so, how much roughly? Where? Any contacts? Thanks. terrymcginnis.

Has anyone had any problems with these? Some brute riding in the back seat of my Trib was able to yank the entire interior door handle out of the door. I took it in today and the screw and tabs holding in this assembly are broken, the part is on order, so I'll have to wait to get it fixed. These door handles are the least impressive part of the vehicle. They've seemed cheap from day one to me . . . and sure enough, one broke after 2800 miles. I hope Mazda/Ford improves this for future owners.

That said, overall the vehicle is great . . . and better than anything else out there for the price and even higher. The Sante Fe is way too ugly for me. Has anybody seen the new Isuzu Axiom? Yuck! The Highlander is a glorified mini-van.

I bought a Tribute in Vermont at $700.+ below msrp only because it was a loaded 2wd model that had been sitting on the lot for about a month and dealer could not find the model and options I wanted. I shopped 5 different dealers since Feb. and had no luck finding the exact model I wanted. All dealers that had Tributes were selling them for msrp. When supply picks up it should be easier to bargain a fair price. Mine only has 400 miles on it but so far I love it. Only complaint is a sensitive shifting lever. I got 18 mpg on my first tank of gas for mostly city driving.

Was surfin' at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov and read several complaints like the following:

"MY 2001 MAZDA TRIBUTE STALLS SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2000. MY TRIBUTE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR THIS "STALLING" PROBLEM. I WAS CONTACTED BY AN INDIVIDUAL WITH THE MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN TECHNICAL HEADQUARTERS APRIL 12. THE MAZDA REPRESENTATIVE ASKED A BATTERY OF QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO THE VEHICLE STALLING. FORTUNATLEY, NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED AT THIS TIME DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE NO RESOLUTION.

Waiting on my ES to come in and was wondering if anyone who has a 2001 Trib has experienced this problem?

  • boleebolee Member Posts: 1
It appears that Mazda has shipped a lot of Tributes to the NC Triad (Winston-Salem and Greensboro) area. City Motors in Greensboro had about 20 Tribs in all Trim Levels and colors while King Mazda in Winston had about 10. Couldn't tell about Options as they hadn't been cleaned-up and the Window Stickers were impossible to read. I'm told that the High Point Dealer (Parks Mazda) also received new shippments.

I live in Greensboro, NC and have noticed the dealerships here have a lot of Tributes. Also there seems to be a lot of them on the road for only having been out a year.

I did my first car wash on my 1 week old LX V6. And I'm wondering if any of you can tell me how to unhook the drivers side floor mat from the floor. It's very perplexing, and I'm embarrassed to take it to the dealer for this problem. Nothing in the car manual will explain the procedure. Thanks, for any advise.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE NEW FIRESTONE WILDERNESS TIRE RECALL ANNOUNCED TODAY BY FORD WILL APPLY TO THE TRIBUTE?????
  • participantparticipant Member Posts: 29
Don't know if recall will apply to our Wilderness tires, but doesn't stop me from speculating, and I think it will because it's a small number compared to number of Explorers and would be bad PR not to. It seems to be an entirely different tire, but they branded it a Wilderness so now they're stuck. Mazdas will of course be the last to get them.
  • omnibudomnibud Member Posts: 24
there is a teardrop shaped gromet thing that holds the mat in place and prevents it from shifting forward as your feet work the pedals. you simply need to pull the mat up from the pedal side and 'feed' that silly gromet thru the hole in the mat to remove it for cleaning. if you try to pull straight up on the mat, the gromet does its job and holds firmly against your wishes...
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
Only applies to the Wilderness AT tires. From what I remember, the Trib has Wilderness HT tires. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    :)
  • curreycurrey Member Posts: 144
    At least to my understanding.
  • participantparticipant Member Posts: 29
At least mine does. Ford letter on recall posted on Escape discussion doesn't mention Escape but I'll think they'll do it.
  • curreycurrey Member Posts: 144
Your Tribute has AT, mine has HT, and I know some lucky people arent't even concered with the recall because their Tribute came with Good Years.

If I was you, I would be calling my dealership regarding your ATs. Who knows, they might want to get those of a Mazda before anyone knows they were ever on the Tribute.
  • joecaltranjoecaltran Member Posts: 4
Well, I have had my Mazda Tribute on order since October 2, 2000. I ordered an LX-V6 2wd Desert Metallic with AS, side impact bags, Moon roof, 6CD In-dash stereo, Tow package and wheel locks. I have been told that Mazda is supposed to start building it soon. I have been patient, because the price is only $400 over invoice.

The reasons why I am thinking of canceling my order is poor gas mileage and all the complaints about quality. Gas in California SC Bay Area have reached $2.10 per gallon and my go up to $3.00 this summer.

If I change my mind, anybody interested in taking over my order?
  • participantparticipant Member Posts: 29
Good idea to try to get in early to dealer in case they have something to swap, but problem is I know there's nothing really wrong with these ATs. I think just the name's the same. Problem is they're mediocre, anyway. B rated, and didn't do much in the snow.
  • curreycurrey Member Posts: 144
I am not doubting you, but, well I guess I am, are you sure they are ATs? If so, I think you might be in a very small minority as everyone I've talked to so far seems to have the Wilderness HTs. If they are ATs, I still don't see an ethical dilemma in swapping them out (and I work in a field ripe with ethical dilemmas). Yeah, they may be fine and Ford maybe doing one heck of a PR program, but you never truly know. Anyway, if the dealer does not have anything to swap (I am not a big fan of the good years) I would see how much they would give you towards a new set of tires. Personally, my HTs are fine, but once they go I will be placing a set of Michilens on right away.
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
...your tires. It'a possible that the HT looks like AT. From all that I have read, none of these tire recalls affect the Trib/Escape.

BTW, this situation is a good reminder to check your tire pressure today and every Thursday.

    :)

Walked out to parking lot in rain to look. You're right. Sorry. First time I saw them I misread, had a conversation with salesman and referred to them as AT without correction and it stuck. Strange, cause salespeople are usually sticklers for accuracy. Also made a whopper of mistake at work today too. At least I have a fun SUV to go home in.
  • curreycurrey Member Posts: 144
I am not sure which was funnier, the "I am too stupid to drive" or the "cause salespeople are usually sticklers for accuracy." Either way, you had me laughing.

    Hi Guys,

Has anyone figured out how to reduce
the excessive wind noise at high speed
    (other than slowing down :)

    Will hood and/or moonroof deflector(s)
    help?

    Thanks in advance,

    I.I.
  • curreycurrey Member Posts: 144
as I believe the noise, coming in from the doors, is a result of the side-view mirrors. This is just me rambling and take it only for that. Of course my solution was to turn up the CD player.
  • maltbmaltb Member Posts: 3,572
"cause salespeople are usually sticklers for accuracy."

He must not be from around these parts.

"cause sales people are usually sticklers for accuracy." I called my sales guy at Mazda and asked him to check to see if the recalls effect "us."

He assured me they do not! Take that for what it worth, but I'm tending to believe him.

Before you order/purchase your NEW vehicle, look at it completely. If there are any type of Dealer Icon's / Advertisements on the car, tell them you want them taken off. If they cannot remove the icons, tell them take $1000 off the vehicle for free advertisement. 75% of the time they remove the icons, 25% of the time they will take the money off.

In the case of the front plate... They are required because the body shop / Recon (prep team) placed that on your vehicle. Besides there is a front license plate bracket made for the vehicles, the dealer should NOT have had to use wood screws to mount a plate. If they won't budge on this, go the American way and bring in a Lawyer. LOL

Does anyone know what (if any) changes Mazda plans for the 2002 Tributes? When can they be ordered? Our local dealers won't take orders for the 2001 but also can't/won't say when they will take 2002 orders.
  • odie6lodie6l Member Posts: 1,173
to the 2002 Ford Escpae add.. maybe this might help to figure out what Mazda might do with the Tribute.

Today, as I was driving on an uphill S-curve, I floored it as I came out of the first turn. The engine reached about 4500 RPM, but beginning at about 4200 RPM, I started to hear a "scraping" type of noise coming from somewhere behind and below me. I tried the same thing again, flooring it up another hill, and heard the same noise just over 4000 RPM. At first I thought it might have been just a normal exhaust sound, but then why didn't I notice it before? Hopefully this isn't an expensive noise :(

We have experienced the same stalling problem as reported by rom83839. It has stalled on two occasions when slowing down in traffic. We have also experienced it while idling at a traffic light. It will stall 3-4 times in a row. We have had it back to the dealer who has tested, etc. and can find nothing wrong. In fact, they kept it for 2 days and could never get it to stall. We picked it up, and it stalled the next day while pulling into a parking lot! Then stalled three times the following day at a stop sign. Since then, it's been running fine. Safety is our concern, of course. It's scary not knowing whether it's going to stall when you slow down in traffic.

I am currently driving a Stratus and has an Escape of order. I've had a similar problem with the stratus. If the vehicle is stalling alot (but seems to shudder before it stalls) have them check the Spark Plugs.. if 1 of the plugs is burned out it can cause the vehicle to shudder or even stall when it comes to a stop or idling. I've had to have my Plugs in the stratus replaced 3x now. One of the many reasons I'm getting rid of it.

anyone have any ideas about what the sound could be? (Post #588) I want to be able to drive my Tribute fast again without worrying that I might be screwing up the engine! ;)
  • murocflyermurocflyer Member Posts: 20
I doubt you will be able to get a "good deal" on Tributes yet. It might be different on the east coast, but we shopped from TX to CA and every dealer we talked with would barely go under window sticker and some selling it for over since demand outweighs supply. This is not the case on DXs, dealers will "deal" on them. Good luck. Frank

i'm looking to buy 2 DX-V6 tributes....but,since it's a new vehicle that has just been released,it still isn't proven,i've been reading about all the little glitches it has and i'd like to wait for the 2002's to come out because most of the problems should be ironed out by that model year.
does anybody have any info on when that might be?i know most new vehicles are released during the end of summer and early fall,i'm wondering if that's the case for the tribute.also, what would the increase in price be,if any?thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a great small SUV, stay with the Mazda Tribute ES V6. We have driven ours since Sept'01, 12,400 miles without a problem. Compared to the RAV4 it is safer, offers more options and has the V6. Gas mpg. is in line with the sticker 18-24mpg. If you drive 15000 miles per year, the difference between 18 mpg and 22 mpg.intown at $1.50 gal. is $227 per year. 18 vs. 24 mpg = $318 per yr. I think the Tribute is worth the difference for the advantages of the whole vehicle. Top rated mini-UTE in Car & Driver.

I sure hope they cleaned it up since I traded my dx 4wd auto. Gas fumes, wind noise, rattles from the back, constant trips to the dealer. After 5000 miles I traded it in on 626 lx v6. 3000 miles and I haven't been back to the dealer since. The front windows creak when they are part of the way down sometimes. But this is not a major issue for me. The 165 hp 2.5 v6 auto has almost as much spunk as the 200 hp v6 in the Trib. It sure has more passing power on the highway. Back here because I'm bored nothing happening on the boards for the 626, just some problems with earlier models. Nothing like the trial and Tribulations I remember here. Well if you need minsues to go with the pluses I don't like using premium, however it runs nearly as well on reg and plus.
  • stecamstecam Member Posts: 15
Glad you're happy with the 626, and sorry to here you had so many problems with the Trib. Quick question for you though - I've seen a few posts both here and in Yahoo where people trade in their Tribs and go for something totally different. I understand someone trading in a Trib and going for another ute, but a 626 is a pretty big switch. If you don't mind me asking, why did you go for a ute in the first place, and then why did you switch to a 626 afterwards? Why not another ute? Just curious.
  • bj02176bj02176 Member Posts: 115
Drove a 626 loaner cars for days on end for mutiple fuel smell fixes, got to like it. Seemed reliable, handled well, most important it was a one a week trip to the gas station for the most part. I've still got my eye on a Forester for one of these days. If it becomes a little better looking I think I will quickly succumb. Had a CRV and Explorer previously. The CRV and Explorer are better built but they do not handle as well as the Trib, which is almost as good as a sedan.

I'm driving my new Tribute for about a week now and dilemma about upgrading/changing tires bugs my mind. Dealer offered option of upgrading them for $65 a piece. Does anyone have a bed experience with Wilderness HT tires ?

my 1 week old Tribute is giving me ~17 miles per galon (city/hwy), is this disapointig efficiency due to car being new?

I'm planning to get a bike rack from Mazda thru dealer. There are 2 types : 2" and 1.25" wide .
Anyone has any experience with those racks ?
