Would you be keeping this car or selling it quickly? Except for SUVs and trucks Chevies and Buicks depreciate really fast. What do you want the car for? Around town? Road trips? How many people do you need to get into it? The Buick Envision looks like a nice hauler. The Volt is a great car, but in what way would it serve that's different than the Infiniti?

Gas prices would have to go up an awful lot to make a difference the Volt would make. And is it worth it to trade in a new really nice car just to be ecologically prudent....when it doesn't really make a difference to the planet anyway, or will make very little difference at least.

Mike you are right about depreciation etc but I still think I am coming out well ahead overall, and in some cases you can't buy at the optimum time. I like getting a new car when they first come out, then I get a full years use before it is one year old. But, I need a car in early April. I have saved 7 months worth of insurance, probably $800, I will have 3 months more warranty period since I didn't pick it up in December.

The biggest factor is we learned we can fly to Florida and don't have to drive down. That will save me about 8000 miles a year on the car, so potentially it will last me a year or two more than it would if we drive down. Even if I trade at 3 years it will be worth more. And, I am still getting a 2017 car to replace a 2015 car.

Not ideal, sure I would like a 2018, but I would have to rent a car for 5 or 6 months to do that. No, I will be happy to get my new state of the art E400....not an ideal scenario but still pretty good.

He's covered with the loaner as though it is his car with most companies. AND he's having his CTS covered under the same policy against damage or loss, such as theft were GG to be so lucky someone would steal it from the dealership.

GG would have needed insurance anyway....as stated.

Check the policy to see if it is full replacement value insurance. Maybe you can hire someone to make off with it....oh yeh, I forgot, it doesn't run. I guess they would suspect you right away, especially when the security cameras show someone towing it from the garage

@graphicguy, another option would be to accept from them a popular SUV, especially in your area. Get it with all the bells and whistles your settlement would allow you, then sell it either outright, or to Carmax. The former would, no doubt yield you more $$. Do you really need the third car? When all is said and done, pocket the money and be done.

Suydam.....if per chance I can't get my money back, I'd want something other than a Cadillac. NOt going to let me buy a Honda or a Ford. So, it's a hypothetical. If I won't take a new Cadillac, what would I take? Cash is the right answer. But, what if I can't get cash?

My Q50 is my daily driver, though....regardless of what happens.

Escalade or Tahoe.......get the most for them when you trade it in.....next, a truck. Hopefully after all this, you won't be forced to take another car from them. If anyone should be able to get cash back it should be you....and at least double the value.

I suggest getting another CTS and driving it to the nearest dealer for a cash sale. Unless you're planning on getting a truck or Volt for a major discount. I really think you should put GM in your rear view mirror.

Learned how to change the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, hoses, set the points and timing, changed plugs, wires, distributor, headlights, twilight, wiper motor, etc. Rebuilt that (tiny) carburetor.

I remember it to this day. Drove it without a license. No one bothered me, except my Dad, who said if I was in a wreck, my future was ruined. And, that he would swear I didn't have permission to use the car. Can't remember if I had to put it in his name, or if I didn't even register it (probably the latter).

Stayed away from the places cops would be, and stayed away from driving in a way that would draw attention.....kind of like my driving habits, today!

I think you have me beat on an uncool car, may be not. My first car I paid $100, 62 Galaxie 2dr sedan complete with a right side that had been sideswiped. Weak 292 V8 , 3 on tree, manual brakes and steering. Soon after I got it it fashioned bondo and gray primer on the right side to hide the damage. Ugly. But it never faltered and never broke down.

It does not appear that you have settled on an end game. In other words what is your bottom line. I think another CTS is the way to go.

At the New England auto show I compared the CTS to the CT6, and in my opinion the CTS is a much better car. Now that you've put in some seat time in the Q50, how does it compare to the CTS?

GG, take whatever the newest and most expensive car they will award you and drive it to carmax/carsense and be done with it. You should be able to get $42k-$43k for a Platinum XT5 AWD, for example.

my guess is, when GM caves, they are going to hold firm on a replacement car. That probably even fits the legal requirements to make you whole. Of course you would rather have the cash, but what you want has never been part of this equation.

worst case, you get a brand spanking new CTS, straight to someplace to sell it, and take what you get and run.

If I went to arbitration over the Audi, and if I won, I can get a new replacement car, a fixed car or the cash value of the car....my choice. That is at least the way it should be, Ohio allows for double or triple value payment. This case calls for at least double....if it isn't double I don't know what would be......maybe car explodes while driving it.

Maybe it is just me but the new Camaros do nothing for me. I see that low roofline and my back starts hurting, and those little slits for windows makes my eyes start squinting.

WTH are you talking about? You had a beef over a repair bill of $2000 or so IIRC. In this case the car was out of service while awaiting parts but they put him in a more expensive vehicle for the whole time. I don't see a whole lot of "damages".

The end game is still cash. And Driver, you're right! Push comes to shove, 2x-3x damages can be pursued. Cadillac knows this, too. Cash is my strongest and first choice. For expediency's sake, I was wondering if there was a way to get them to move quickly.

I repeat. There is no way I'll ever let another Cadillac product grace my driveway. So, if it comes to that, I'm sort of wondering what I could possibly want/need other than any Cadillac.

I have the three local Cadillac dealership addresses on my office bulletin board, reminding me to never do business with any of them. NOthing against the majority of them. Their product is jus woeful. So, all of them would take my money again in a heartbeat. I won't give them the opportunity.

AB...the vehicle may have been more expensive as a loaner. But, it wasn't what I bought. I think it's debateable whether it was better....more expensive? Yes! Better? Hard to make that case.

Someone asked the compare/contrast with the Q50 vs the CTS. The only real advantage the CTS has is Apple Play, which the Q50 doesn't have. That said, plugging my iPhone into the Q50 and the Bluetooth and features from music, to album art, to in car phone calling....all are better in the Q50.

They both handle about the same, although the Q50's suspension feels more supple to go along with the handling prowess. The Q50's steering and braking instilled more confidence than the steering and braking in the CTS (and especially over the CT6).

Seats are better in the Q50 than in either the CTS or CT6. Again, not really close.

All have a BOSE sound system, which is quite good in all of these cars.

Drivetrain....not even in the same ball park. The twin turbo in the Q50 is better in every measure, by a pretty large margin than the 2.0T in the CTS or the V6 in the CT6.

The 8-speed trans in the CTS is a bit harsh with the 2.0T, but smooths out in the CT6 V6. The 7-speed in the Q50 has rev matching and is quicker shifting in manual mode vs manual mode in either Caddy.

Refinement goes to the Q50....again, not much of a contest.

Q50 MSRP was nearly $48K. I paid $10K less than that, or high $30s.

Original '14 CTS had a $57K MSRP. I paid $48K for it.

So, pretty large price advantage goes to the Q50, too.

That said, the Avalon, which I test drove more than once, probably came closest to the CTS. I preferred the Avalon to the CTS, but the Avalon was $10K less than what I paid for the CTS, too.

Then there was the Accord Touring. I really enjoyed test driving it. And, it came with all the goodies the Q50, CTS, and Avalon came with. It handled better than the CTS. And, I think I could have bought one in that $31K-$32K range, which IMHO, is a screaming bargain.

Plus, I'm confident you won't see the Honda, Toyota or Infiniti in the dealer service dept for months at a time. CAn't even remotely say that about the Cadillac(s).

I've gone to several car shows and/or Cars n Coffees lately, and I have to say Cadillac just isn't what people are buying, wanting, or desiring these days (with exception of CTS-V or ATS-V). Of course, those are super rare too.
Infiniti was well represented. Seems to be a Infiniti club in San Diego.

BMW is always present. VW Golf R's. A Miata here and there. Scion FR-S's and Subaru BRZ's. GTR's and 370Z's.

WRX STI's and Evo's. Then of course a slew of Mustangs (including a Cobra Vert), a few Camaros, and even some Hemi's. An Orange McClaren seems to show up a lot; even in the rain! And last, but not least, Audi is always well represented.

I would have it towed to wherever you are selling it. Why even drive it off the lot?

Damage was they claimed we burned out the clutch....I said the clutch was faulty. Automotive experts I wrote to told me it was impossible for a clutch to wear out after 16000 miles....they said you would have to intentionally try to wear it out to do that.

If I went to arbitration and if I won I have a choice, they fix the car at their expense, I can take another car, or I can get the cash value of the car....you can read the Lemon Law yourself. If they only are required to fix the car for free, they would always go to arbitration, they have nothing to lose. The point is, they gave me $500 to go away.....they didn't want to risk the stiffer penalties that could have been brought down.

Do you think that giving you a loaner car to use while your car is in the garage for going on 3 months is not a problem? He hasn't been able to drive a $60000 car because of GMs incompetence. What possible confidence would he have in this car once it is fixed? What if something similar happens once the warranty period is over? I definitely think he should be compensated not only the value of the car but a big fat penalty for shoddy treatment.....loaner car or not....and the loaner car is part of the buying agreement...it would be false advertising not to give him the loaner car. He has received almost no enjoyment from a $60k car....GM hasn't fulfilled their agreement to sell him what they contracted to sell him. That's WTH I am talking about!

GG, that is a strong condemnation of the CTS and by extension Cadillac. Someone should be conveying these sentiments to the Cadillac boss (I can't remember his name) and to Mary Barra.

Sometime ago there were several GM customer service representatives on Edmunds addressing customer complaints or concerns. What happened to that GM initiative?

The GM reps responding to comments on forums is the dumbest implementation of a potentially good idea. They had no power to do anything other than tell you to go to your local GM dealer or they sometime would send info to the dealer. It all came back to the dealer.

I recall long ago toyota did something similar on the forum. Was it toyotausa in the title? That went away too.
Might have been at the beginning of the sludge, er I mean "gel" problem, where they hoped to modify public opinion by fighting any negative pots on forums. A Fake News agenda of the time.

The best handling of problems is when the company gets all excited about a problem and HANDLES it. The way this is stalling along, it's going to be 9 months.

The clutch was fixed out of warranty at your expense and by your own admission it was fine afterward. There was no "lemon" involved, It was just a matter of arguing whether the clutch was defective and whether they should extend warranty coverage for that. If you think they would have given you another car, well... good luck.

Probably not many stock E/5er/A6 there either. Here those are a mix, diehard enthusiasts intertwined with VAG/BMW bros and their souped up older models, Subaru devotees, showoff lucky techies, and parentally aided devilspawn with late model supercars.

Well, as usual, I'm sitting in an examination room at my doctor's office with a badly swollen gland on my left upper neck just below my chin. It just never ends. I'm guessing he is going to put me on antibiotics. It feels like when I had the mumps at age 30 when I caught it from my nephew - hurts to swallow or even turn my head.

Oh well, at least I'm not dead!

The good news is that I'm in no mood to buy or drive a new car today!

Doctor gave me Cephalexin (generic Keflex) 500 mg capsules - three times a day for 7 days. Then, he wants to see me next Friday. He said if the swelling and tenderness do not resolve by Tuesday to call him. He thinks it is some sort of infection - but not viral due to the swelling of the gland. We shall see - we shall see.

Thanks bean. I really haven't felt great since the surgery back on September 22nd. It just seems like it's one thing after another. This week it's very low LDL cholesterol levels which need to come up substantially and then a swollen gland in my neck.

Still waiting for the the blood test results from the gastroenterologist so I can get in to see him. My liver enzymes are very, very high according to my primary care doc which is very troubling to him. He is anxious for me to see the gastroenterologist too - but it makes no sense to see him before the blood tests are back and he has studied them.

I am just afraid of liver failure. If that happens, it's all over!

As for the Bourbon, they told me to come in and pick up the bottle next Sunday between 2:00 and 4:00 PM.

Sometime ago there were several GM customer service representatives on Edmunds addressing customer complaints or concerns. What happened to that GM initiative?

I am going to assume that Corporate decided to eliminate the program because it was not an effective means of solving problems - but may have caused even more problems by inviting complaints in an environment where millions of drivers watch the boards and many of them decided to complain about any and all experiences that were not positive. An open invitation to loonies isn't always a good thing for an automobile manufacturer.

If these customer service reps had no means of actually solving problems, the process can create even more hate and discontent among the GM masses - for what purpose?

Mike, I think your doctors are using you as a guinea pig. It seems as though every month you are on a new medication and I wouldn't be surprised, if in turn, these drugs have adverse side effects or serious drug interactions. Time to look into alternative treatments such yoga and aromatherapy.

And perhaps most importantly, all these new cars that you buy almost every year is making you sick. According to CBS, reporting on a study conducted by the Ecology Center, a new car smell can be toxic. "What you might actually be sniffing are toxic fumes from chemicals used to create the car interior."

"Research shows that vehicle interiors contain a unique cocktail of hundreds of toxic chemicals that [throw] off-gas in small, confined spaces," Jeff Gearhart, research director at the Ecology Center, said in a written statement. "Since these chemicals are not regulated, consumers have no way of knowing the dangers they face.

The clutch was fixed out of warranty at your expense and by your own admission it was fine afterward. I claimed the clutch was faulty. They claimed I caused the problems so I should pay to have it fixed. Dealer paid $600, Audi paid $500, I paid $1200. What was my recourse if I didn't take them to arbitration or small claims court? They seemed to come up with $500 pretty fast when I threatened to go to arbitration. The rules say 3 options, fix car, replace car, or cash equal to value of car. They don't say they choose, they said if I win I choose. All I am going by is what the rules said.......I think it makes it a good incentive to make them work to try to solve the problem....if they know they are right they'll still fight it....if they are wrong they won't want to risk those penalties.
