I asked my salesperson point-blank for the current residual and she deflected. I have to believe that MINI is actively training their people to keep the residuals private. Maybe MINI doesn't want to lease vehicles.

I don't understand the hesitancy to share the residual; those are set by the bank. The MF, however, can be marked up by the dealer.

I don't understand it either, but it sure seems like a concerted effort to me to not let the public know.

Exactly - knowledge is power. The dealer wants to retain the knowledge, and therefore, the power, in the negotiations. See my comments in the other MINI thread for more insight.

I talked to my salesperson and told her that I got a residual of .61 on a loaded 2-door S Hardtop (the dealership has some 'lease offers' on their website and I found a vehicle fairly close and did the math). She said that sounds about right. Probably changes tomorrow with the new month.

Yes, new numbers are due tomorrow. Don't know if they'll be any different from February.

So we are shopping for a new S Hardtop. It rings up at 36,270 w/ destination. I’m pretty specific on what I want and the wife loves the stripped R56 that I bought for our youngest child. So this one will be a little more boogered-up for us old people. The dealer has offered a discount of 1,770 bringing it down to $34,500 but I think I need another $1k to make a deal. Also, and maybe this is just their standard offer, but they added the $300 paint protection package and a $700 ‘maintenance agreement.’ For a vehicle we will probably pick up at BMW in Spartanburg…. This is for a lease, so what maintenance is there? A couple of oil changes? So the True-Coat and Maintenance agreement have to go. There’s a $500 rebate for a particular senior group that my wife belongs to, and a MF reduction of about .5% available from the same outfit. They offered me a finance rate of 2.4% to purchase and a MF of .0021 to lease. So I’m thinking I will shoot for a MF of .0008 (our credit is good and the MF reduction mentioned above). My intention would be to not put any additional $$ down at delivery.
MSRP 36,270 and a .61 residual
Discount 2,750 if I can get another $1k
Taxes 1,782.5
Doc. Fee 150
Licensing and fees 203
Rebate 500

The trade is the biggest variable, of course. I told them I would trade for $6k and think $5 wouldn’t be bad if KBB and NADA are correct.

We don't have the MINI numbers for March, so we can't verify the MF.

.00210 is a high MF - if MSDs are available, that would only bring the MF down to .00161. Corporate discount would deduct .00020 from the MF (at least, that what it does for BMW leases)

Yes that MF is higher than I plan to pay. That was before the credit app.

Today I was told that my 800+ credit score was worth a .0021 MF and that was THE NUMBER from MFS. I said no thanks and that MFS apparently doesn't want to lease. The salesperson didn't disagree. So I will either take a break from shopping or purchase.

Base MF is .00146, this month. Your dealer has marked it up the maximum allowed.

Ask the dealer to show you the adjusted cap cost, and how they got to that number from the selling price. That looks like a purchase quote.

They will give me 5% off the car which is $1,737.
Brings the selling price to $33,008.
They charge Doc fee of $599
Acquisition Fee of $925
Plus loyalty discount of $500 rebate for owning a BMW.

I was told the mf for May is now .0018 and I specifically asked if they were marking the mf up and they replied no. Which makes me question their honestly if you quoted .00146 as the May money factor.
The residual I was quoted is 63%.Above shows 64%

Using these numbers along w/ including tax title and tags and 1st month payment.
The balance due on delivery is 35,830.05
Monthly payment would be $494 for 36 months.

Am I being taken for a "ride" by this dealership and their pricing. The money factor he quoted me he said works out to around 3.5% .0018 then I did the math and it was 4.3% so I may have caught him marking up the money factor. Also the monthly payment seems very high.

63% is for 36/12; 64% is for 36/10. Confirm with the dealer what mileage allowance they were basing their quote on.

Using your prices, the 64% residual and the base MF, I get $462/mo plus tax.

If you want to continue working with this dealer, be polite and tell them you won't sign a deal where the MF is marked up. They know the base rate.

As you can see, MINIs are not leasing all that well.

Is this even a good time to look at leasing it, with the 2018s supposed to arrive soon? I'm in New York City with just two Mini dealers (NYC and Freeport).
