I saw you guys from my room yesterday morning. I kept an eye out on the parking lot, but didn't see that the auto-x was running.
Later, I got my camcorder and zoomed in for a closer look. Problem was that I was looking towards the wrong parking lot! Did you have the Trooper there? By the time that I realized that it was running, we had to leave.
It looked like a wet skidpad out there early on. :-) How'd it go?

Bummer. If the 7 seater concept does show up I think I'm gonna scream.

At any rate I have a small request: Even though the Legacies and news of the 7-passenger vehicle (Seven Samurai?) are at the forefront, can anyone ferret out more info on the future of the Forester - '05 and beyond?
I know an '05 was at the Philly Flower Show and from Bob's observations not much will change. I am still very much on the fence and trying hard to decide whether to bite the bullet for an '05 or wait longer and hope that the features I wanted to see in the Forester manifest themselves before the next-generation vehicle arrives. My fear is that the next-gen Forester will be the 7-passenger vehicle and that the Impreza-based Forester will cease to be. I also fear that future Foresters will wear the ugly mug of the B11S (with its Edsel-like bathroom scale central grille) or B9SC (with its three-piece grille reminiscent of an upside-down late-Fifties Studebaker Hawk).
Catching up on the posts here have me somewhat concerned about the future of the company, both in terms of independence from GM and in terms of a product line that attempts to differentiate itself from the horde only by weird styling, not by offering a high-quality alternative to other AWD cars at a competitive price.

'06 Forester predictions:
Since the 7-passenger crossover will debut at the same time, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the front of the Forester starts to move in that design direction. Nothing major; the logo in the grille will move north towards the top of the grille, and perhaps a similar grille mesh to that of the crossover. I suspect the Subaru star logo will replace "SUBARU" on the rear hatch, maybe (?) a slightly re-contoured front fender with a modified character crease. Mechanically, maybe the 5EAT w/SportShift on the XT model? Maybe a tweaked suspension and different wheels (17") on the XT?
Bob
Not that it really matters to me, but inquiring minds want to know. ;-)

who thinks the Forester will always be Impreza based

Sportshift maybe? Hope so.

And nice to have met, Ray? Alpha01?
No 7 seater
Had to bale on Bob at around 4pm... my knees were starting to nag. Ended up hailing a cab to get me to the subway.
Hope Bob didn't get lost and made it home safe... I kinda left him all by himself

I stayed until around 6:30. After you guys left I went back to revisit everything and discovered Camp Jeep, which was like a mini Jeep 101. It was in an annex to the main building on the lower level. Jeep folks would take you on an off road excursion with their vehicles. Clearly this was the best display at the show. Unfortunately the wait to go for a ride was about an hour, so I passed on it. I've been to a Jeep 101 anyway.
The drive home last night was miserable. There's no other way to describe it. The traffic on the NJ Turnpike in south Jersey was horrible. Stop-and-go from Exit 5 to the Delaware Bridge. On top of that, right after the Del. Bridge, I-95 South was closed due to an accident. The state police took everone coming off the bridge (8 lanes or so) and funneled them all on to Rt.13/40. So that was 8 lanes going into 1 lane. I stayed on 40 though Delaware, and then ventured back to I-95, and then it was OK. I didn't get home until 12:30 AM, and I left NY at 6:30 PM. Arugh!
Bob
Its gonna be hard to stay away from a turbo Legacy or Outback, but I'm trying to keep an open mind. For example, I tried to buy a used 04 Forester XT PP last week but the dealer wont deal...it had 18K on the odometer, so I had to hold firm on my top dollar.
Mark
But good that you got home safe.
The show yesterday was exceptionally packed and I did not particularly enjoyed it, present company excluded.

Smile on your face when you get a pointby in the drizzle from "FAST Z06" and an E30 Racecar, Priceless
LRP was great. Rand an HPDE with the PDA group. Well ran, instructed a 530i Owner who should consider taking up Golf as he just wasn't getting it. Adam and I were the slowest cars in the Instructor group, except in the rain where we cleaned up. Last session of the day we had a blast, a WRX powered RS of Zephyr, Stock Powered Rs w/Rs and Coilovers, and The L with stock power managed to play for all 30 min staying close to each other. I was pushing hard and managed to overcome the RS about mid-session. Kept the WRX powered RS in sight, but never caught it.
Just before I overtook the S4

Bob - I know all about your drive, as we did it as well! I am down in Fredricksburg as Beth needed a quick 'Family Fix'. I tried something different, and went futher west across NJ and thru Philly to avoid the exit 5-1 mess on the NJTP. But we still had to get off on Rt 40 to go around the I95 closure.
Funny/sad story. We almost got involved in a holdup. We stopped in Wilmington for dinner, and some no-goodnicks tried to hold up the Arby's. We were the last ones in the place when the mgr saw trouble coming and locked the doors. Problem is I got locked out with them as I went to get Emily a bandaid from the car! The manager announced that the police had been called, and they fled without taking the time to rob me...
Next time I think I will just sit in I95 traffic rather than find a short cut!!!

It was'nt so long ago that Ottawa was thought of as a bit of a backwater, not any more though. Just last week the police broke up a large drug ring with over a hundred grow houses involved.
They just arrested a crew of hells angels who were involved in high end new car thefts, over a million dollars worth. I stay away from Ottawa centre town at night because of the drunks, bums, and junkies.
Still in the overall scheme Ottawa is still a relatively safe city.
Cheers Pat.
Maybe if you had a Nav you could have taken a different route? I once got off on Exit 7 and went down by Trenton, IIRC.
