Audi gave him 3 mechanical failures bad enough to strand him. Roadside assistance was great, but I guess he got tired of needing it.

BTW. Patti sorry to here about your back problems, as a survivor of back surgery gone badly wrong I sincerely hope they can find a way to return you to good health without resorting to the knife.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Cheers Pat. Ps couple more weeks and I will be back on a full time basis again, where did the summer go?
It'll be great to have you back, Pat.
Met a Crew newbie yesterday. Cory came by to buy the wheel covers from our L, since we got the alloys.
Well, much to my surprise, turns out Cory was female, not male (my bad assumption). Her '97 Outback Sport was holding up well for its age, the only thing it's needed so far were brakes.
She had lost 3 of the 4 OE covers, so we removed that last one and installed the ones from the Legacy, right then and there, to test the fit.
Turns out she's an avid hiker. I bet she uses a Mac and has a dog, but I didn't have the nerve to ask.
I did invite her to join us and hope she'll post on this thread soon.

Cheers Pat.

I hope you and Silvius are doing well.

Seriously, I feel the same way. It's like a big family here. It seems like yesterday that the attack happened.

2. Can a tuned 1.8T quattro be as fast as a Impreza
thx
2) I'm sure, but you'll have spent a helluva lot more. People aren't generally in the business of putting more money into an expensive car to make it faster than a cheaper one. 'Cos then you could buy the cheaper one and put the money you saved PLUS the money you would spend on the aftermarket and have, well, this:

Right back at ya, paisan. I still remember taking forever to get home, not being able to dial in with all our dial-in hosts busy, and then not getting back in touch with the Crew for a couple of days.
No regrets at all about getting out to the Pine Barrens, in fact I still remember it fondly.
4wdisfun: quattro sucks.
Just kidding.
"Quattro" is just Audi's name for several systems they've offered over the years. I'll presume you're talking about the A4? Because the TT uses a Haldex AWD since it's based on the Golf platform.
The A4 uses a Torsen center diffy. They used to have THREE torsens IIRC, center, front, and rear, but that was heavy and costly, and showed its achilles heel on ice because Torsens are ineffective with zero traction. It really put the power down on dry pavement, for track days.
But they moved to a more practical center torsen combined with traction control to manage both axles. It's cheaper, lighter, and better on ice.
Subaru uses several different systems, but let's assume you're talking about the WRX 5 speed. That employs a center viscous coupling, and manages the rear axle with a viscous limited-slip diffy. The front axle is unmanaged, but they're still great in the snow.
If you're setting it up for the track, consider a front LSD to prevent wheelspin on the inside tire during sharp turns. They run about $900 or so.
That WRX starts at $22,577 at fitzmall.com. So with the front LSD you've got a nice setup for about $23.5k.
An Audi A4 1.8T with no options runs $25,545, plus you just have to toss those made-for-Buick 205/65R15 tires, so add $450 for an OE Plus One option worth every penny. Add $400-600 to chip that bad boy, but then consider you can negotiate the $26.5k total down a grand or so, most likely.
So the WRX carries about a $2 grand advantage with the way I'd set them up. You could get a Vishnu Stage 0 plus 17" rims, plus snow tires on the stock rims. Yummy.
The Audi has nice fabrics.
Guess which one I'd buy?

Cheers Pat.
Sure, the 1.8T can be tuned to be as fast, but you'll need to void the warranty by chipping it at the very least.
The 1.8T is a great engine, but it wasn't meant to make a rocket out of a vehicle like the A4. Audi has the 2.7T for that application.

As a teenager, I became resigned to it. When the second tower was under construction, several of us snuck past security and made it up a freight elevator to the unfinished upper floors for a long look out from the scary edge! As I remember it, Port Authority Police had much to say about our little adventure....
Time passes, and dislike turns to pride. When one of my Japanese kids was with us in '99, I took her to the top, and we had lunch at "Windows on the World". This past year, our latest kid went up to the roof with a bunch of the other exchange students on Sunday, September 9th. And oh how we all cried a tear of relief when we got word that my brother-in-law, an executive with one of the big insurance firms, had escaped - somewhat traumatized by what he witnessed, but alive.
A moment of silence as we remember the events of 9/11. What will tomorrow bring if we go to war with Iraq??

Bob, beat you to it!
The menus now pull down, just like Windoze. I'm not sure how my user experience is enhanced when the vehicles try to run me over, but I'm sure the developer thinks it looks cool, and hey, that's what matters.
Cheers,

Today, for me, is a pretty sad one... but as I reflect, remember, and honor the memory of all my brother & sister firefighters & all those other public safety personnel, I'll go to church this afternoon and say a little prayer for them, as well as for all of us who were touched.
Thanks for the bandwith... peace to us all.
Paul
Peace and love!

A Prayer of Unity, Remembrance and Hope was read by seven religous members of different faiths. Although I don't have one of the flyers with the prayers' text, I recall there being a theme of unity and hope. There were selected readings and musical selections sung by the BankOne choir and Elizabeth Norman.
As the crowd left the plaza, the tone was somber and muted. I didn't notice many people chatting but then again, I was kind of wrapped up in my own thoughts.
The service was a poignant remembrance dedicated to the victims from a year ago.
Peace and good health to all of you here at the Crew,
Ron

I'm new to these boards, but not to boards in general, the web, or chatting. I read through the last few weeks' messages, and would like to be a part of things here. I gather there is a weekly chat among members. Is the topic the ownership of Subarus? or just chatting in general?

Quickies: a major Subie dealership didn't have even one '03 Forester on the lot. Odd. The new yellow WRX is hot. They had a black Baja. Cool vehicle with twice as much cladding as it should have, IMHO. Guess which car they were pushing the hardest? The lot was FULL of Legacy SEs and the sales crew seemed eager to push them. Subaru really hit a home run when they jacked up the content on the Legacy to make the SE, and we're gonna see a whole lot of them on the road this year.
